2017.06.17 Prince of Stride (PuriSute) Episode 3 [Review]!
I somehow managed to get tickets for the Shonichi (first day and first performance) of Episode 3 of PuriSute and I’m so glad I did! I didn’t realise how excited I was to see it until the day! I was excited ALLLLLL day!
Official Website here Official Twitter here PreOrder DVD/BR here, here and here Episode One Review here Episode Two Review here Press Coverage* Video Coverage* *It’s still too early for news outlets to release photos and videos it seems. I’ll add them when they pop up.
Cast and Character *I’ll only add the new ones*
The schools this time were Hounan, Saisei, Mihashi, Ichijyoukan and Kakyouin
Saisei Kobayashi Shunsuke as Suwa Reiji
Kakyouin Kitamura Kento as Yagami Tomoe Menjo Kentaro as Ida Amatsu Harano Masaki as Natsunagi Toya Shioguchi Ryohei as Nampei Aoba Maruyama Nao as Izumino Hajime Ohashi Noryuki as Izumino Ryo Masuda Yuki as Sakurai Joe
---
NON-SPOILER REVIEW Overall: This is another massive step up from Episode Two! This was so good! I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much! It really helped my enjoyment that I had a side/aisle seat! Everything leveled up!: the story, the pacing, the races, the jokes, the comedy, the characterisation, the acting, the LIVE was even more amazing this time, the stunts were still ruining my anxiety but I still enjoyed them, the emotions this time were sky high. It’s such a good installment! And there’s no boring scenes! It feels like everything had a point and the story just went at the exciting pace and was so great! Amazing acting from Tani as Dozono also! WoW! I loved this installment! It’s my favourite out of the series so far! I am so impressed with this one! Rating: 8-8.5/10* *I kinda wanna give this a 9/10 BUT I want to give myself some room for other shows to impress me and even to allow Episode 4 room to impress me too.
---
SPOILER REVIEW
I’m not sure how to structure this one but I’ll try...
As mentioned in my Non-Spoiler, this was a MASSIVE step up from episode two. Again we saw this huge change and improvement in the script, the writing, the pacing, the stunts, the everything! The Live once again was amazing!
There were so many races this time! We had at least three! Hounan vs Kakyouin, Hounan vs Mihashi and Hounan vs Ichijyoukan <3 all of them were action packed and how fast the staff changed the apparatus’ around in time and the types of apparatus they made were all amazing! Each race had a uniqueness to it and the situations and dynamics each time were different which kept it entertaining.
One staff did seem to be having trouble moving one of the clear ramps but he always got it in place in time. Freaking Jin using those ramps to run up and across it at like a 90 degree side way run was amazing! And seeing some of them jump up to grab to tops of like 2/3/4 meter apparatus’ were crazy and amazing but my poor heart! Also jumping DOWN from the stuff too just =OOO
They had two new apparatus this time: two skateboard-like clear 90 degree ramps and a 2meter-ish straight up pole which, my god, every time Taiyou used it to swing around and was literally ‘arms are the only thing keeping him on the pole I was like ‘how is he not bending and ripping that thing out of place?!’ it was not good for my heart xD but it was amazing to see Taiyou and Jin so flawlessly using their full strength and spin around that pole. It looked very cool!
Being lucky enough to have an aisle seat: so many people went past me <3 and they’re all so pretty!!! Himemiya ran towards and past me. Reo stood right next to me, looking up the steps during the final race between Hounan and Ichi. All of Hounan walked in to the aisle break between the two seating sections, so Izaki was right in front of me with his back to me -- seriously this boy needs to eat more! hHs legs are super skin and nothing but muscle... Tomoe was near me too and he’s a lot better looking in real life and close up compared to his visuals. Heath ran past me too <3 And seeing Takeru and Kaede jumping high off the box that’s in the aisle break during the races, and having them land (with a big noise) really close to me was so cool! I am so glad I had an aisle seat! But naturally, as with the previous two PuriSutes, my anxiety was just like ‘ooooohhh my god don’t let anything bad happen!’
I'm going to be honest: I spent more time looking at what characters were doing in the background rather than what was happening in the foreground because the background action is just SO interesting! There's one part after Saisei and Hounan's practise and training where Hounan and Reiji are talking seriously at the front but I was WAY too busy looking at Saisei's remaining characters helping each other stretch and I started giggling because Takeru approaches Kaede and he's like 'I can stretch my leg out straight!' and Kaeda tries and can't do it so Takeru shows him and they end up strecthing together <3 Speaking of Kaede! His fanboying for Kuga was hilarious! Every time he's like 'we get to practise with Kuga?! Kuga's here?! HEY KUGA!!' Ahhhh Kuga....' he's so cute and SO fanboy-y it's adorable!
There were lots and lots of funny moments this time around which were all great and so much fun!
Ayumu is back in full swing this Episode with his comedy after being depressing and boring in Episode Two. He said so many stupid and funny things to say and do and he had this silly dance and it was great. I’m so glad Ayumu is back to normal <3 One moment that stuck with me was when he’s like ‘Surfing! Surfing! Surfing no I!’ and he made a イ with his body xD
There was a running joke of ‘have a banana’. I think it was Eifuku from Mihashi. He like suggests it to everyone in Hounan during this one scene, and then at the end (of the stage) he’s like ‘have some (I think) sweets!’ to Takeru, but Takeru is like ‘no need. I have a banana’ and whips the banana out xD
Also, poor Heath! Heath always drew the short straw with who he ran with! Everyone he got put with, he just found weird and he’s just spout funny abuse at them like ‘you’re also like that (= strange)’ or ‘you’re that type of person?!’ or ‘you gotta be kidding me’ xD KishiTaku was perfect with the comedy abuse.
I also remember, Banchan when Kohinata and Ayumu first see him, and he runs towards them, all arms open, hugs Kohinata, and Kohinata like spins Banchan around in his arms, almost hitting and knocking Ayumu over, but luckily Ayumu caught his legs and they held him in place xD It was a very funny moment.
The audience were already crying quite a bit by the end of the first part! We cried even more in the second part! Why are we crying for teams we should hate?! xD At the end of part one we were crying because after Mihashi lose, freaking Kamoda Kei is just on the floor crying his heart out while the rest of the Mihashi boys are either crying or trying to keep it together around him - Reo was definitely crying. It got all the audience crying straight away! Which shocked a few of us because we didn’t think we’d be this emotionally hit on the FIRST freaking performance! Either they’re damn good actors or they were legit crying -- I don’t blame them, they’ve been doing Parkour together for like a good year so for this to be finally it for them, I can see why it’d be emotional. And then this scene beautifully ended part one with Dan-sensei saying to Hounan, ‘lets take a break’. And then we were crying in part two when Ichijyoukan lost, which again, we shouldn’t cry at but we damn did! Seriously the entire audience clapped for a LONG time at the end of these two races. Literally the actors started talking and we couldn’t hear the line because we were clapping that long and hard. If it’s already THIS level on the first day, god forbid daisenshuuraku (the final performance). I’m glad I won’t see Daisenshuuraku until the DVD(?) because I don’t think my emotions and hands could handle it.
I’m kinda glad Mihashi were back this time! I didn’t realise they would be and I’m glad they did. They’ve really grown since Episode 1, and you can tell they’re close as a group and as coworkers <3 their chemistry and story line was all great.
The LIVE at the end has improved a lot again! I enjoyed it in Episode 2 too but this time I was SO into it! The dancing was perfect this time and they came into the audience and clapped along and stuff. I don’t remember who came next to me though but it wasn’t Nakada (he went up the right aisles), or Reiji, or Mihara. I think I had Mayuzumi. I loved the costumes this time too! The black and red pattern <3 And I got a good look at Nakada’s stomach when he did this half twist move I’m the worst xD and they did BOTH the Live songs which by now we all know and, this is the ONLY time I agree with the penlights, they did the using the lights thing again and most of the audience knew some of the hand movements so the group and audience matched! It was so great! I am once again impressed, and more impressed with the LIVE scene <3
I still hate DJ Stride and I still think the light thing is a fucking stupid idea but that’s literally the only complaints I have, and they’re complaints I’ve had the entire time about this stage series so there’s nothing to complain about in this particular stage at all xD
I guess I should talk about the new guys before I talk about everyone else << because we know what to expect from them:
Kobayashi Shunsuke as Suwa Reiji : Kobayashi is really good as Reiji. He feels very accurate and Reiji-like. BUT I personally am Jin bias xD and I couldn’t help but feel like Kobayashi was playing Reiji a little... gay. According to my friend that’s just the feeling the actor naturally gives off?? >.<
Kitamura Kento as Yagami Tomoe: Unfortunately we didn’t really get to see much of Kakyouin so can only say that Kitamu(ra -- haha get it?) is very pretty up close and looks good in his outfit. I lied the scene of him running in the rain too.
Menjo Kentaro as Ida Amatsu: Amatsu’s main entrance was really cool. When they do the ‘who’s racing who’ moment for Hounan and Kakyouin, Menjo did this like cartwheel flip thing and I loved it! I was super impressed. His character though? What a massive dick! He’s so mean! And so.... what a gaki (brat)! But means his acting is good right? xD Also he’s SUPER popular, everyone wants his badge.
Harano Masaki as Natsunagi Toya: He ended up being a bit of a disappointment for me. I love his entrance in the anime (asleep next to Nana on the plane/train) and he’s such a sweet character but in the stage (probably because Kakyouin aren’t that important in this Episode) he just kind was introduced and left. There was no real impression I could get from him =[ I’m hoping we see him better and more in the final Episode. It was cute when he gave Nana his phone charm, but it wasn’t the introduction I wanted.
Masuda Yuki as Sakurai Joe: Sakurai Joe ended up being FAR less annoying than I was anticipating and worrying about in this stage. We was MORE pleasant and easier to enjoy than certain other characters I’ve been struggling with for three whole episodes. And THEN after the show finished I looked at the pamphlet and noticed his page said ‘in Honoo no Mirage’ and I freaked out outside the theatre going: ‘IT’S ODA NOBUAGA?!’. No wonder I enjoyed his acting in this; he’s a really nice and funny guy and he’s a good actor! So yeah, no wonder I liked him.
Sorry I couldn’t talk about the twins and Nampei but I just didn’t see them. I don’t remember them.
Now for the rest of the guys in this cast!
My friend (mentioned before) doesn’t think it was a mistake, BUT I think Kohinata fell off his box by accident. It looked like he was supposed to be one leg on the box but he rolled backwards off the box and stopped at the side of tit and there was this (for theatre) rather long pause between the spotlight coming on him, him falling off, getting into position and saying his line that I personally feel mean he wasn’t supposed to do that and did accidentally fall off. But I can’t confirm until others have scene the play and/or I see the DVD.
Himemiya was a beautiful princess as usually <3 he has this great balance of being narcissistic because he’s allowed to be because he IS good at what he does, but he also has this ‘I’m not so full of Pride I can’t apologise’ and he’s very much a gentlemen. Especially after his team loses and he stands strong to Hounan and saying ‘you guys won, fair and sqaure’ and it’s so....proper of him. I can’t explain it okay! Himemiya is a princess but he’s also not stupid and not a sore player! THAT’S why I like him! Goddammit he ain’t back after this episode and I missed Ichijyoukan’s AfterTalk this time =‘[
Tani’s acting was absolutely amazing in this! Towards the end of the Hounan vs Ichijyoukan race and Dozono really starts losing it and is screaming and having the mental break down on stage. Especially when Himemiya cuts his communicator and Dozono is like ‘how dare you cut me off!!’. It’s seriously such an amazing scene! If I could give him an award the one of the best acted scenes I’ve ever seen, he’d get it! It was so amazing! I cannot praise this scene and Tani’s acting enough. I know my friend (alkoi/coffee-scramble) was impressed with this scene too! Wow, just wow.
I’m still a Ichijyoukan supporter clearly <3 I SHOULD buy the muffler and everything for them at the last stage <3
---
At the end we had the usually Daily Side Story which was Nana, Takeru and Riku and after training Nana bring thems some food and Izaki and Jin honestly scoffed the onigiri (rice balls, even though they’re triangles.. why we do call them rice BALLS?! xD) so fast! Jin’s mouth was so full he couldn’t say his lies properly and actually stopped mid-sentence to A. swallow his food and B. get a good breath. It was supposed to be a somewhat serious scene too but we were all amused and finding it totally adorable at how hungry Izaki and Jin clearly were -- don’t worry! We were all hungry too and wanted some Onigiri! Also at the end, Izaki almost dropped his onigiri, it started to tumble down his shirt and he’s like ‘ah! ahh!’ and grabbed it as the lights faded to black and we all laughed xD
We had three curtain calls too and the claps just wouldn’t stop! It’s really, really good this Episode! Like I said: it’s improved from the last one, AGAIN! I think it was KishiTaku who did the greeting at the end of the curtain call but that could just be me wishing it happened in my brain, so I’m not sure.
----
GOODS
GUY!! They made a mistake in the pamphlet xD They wrote on Kohinata’s actors page that he’s in Tenimyu. They did post on twitter that it was a mistake. BUT I honestly think they’ve accidentally let out a secret we weren’t supposed to know about yet, that he WILL be in Tenimyu in the future, but time will tell. Anyway, to the goods!
I am PISSED the Kojin set for Ichijyoukan have a freaking GROUP shot in! I want THREE pretty Hime shots!!! Ichijyoukan only have TWO stages and you’re wasting a kojin photo with them as a group shot?! Ugh...
I managed to trade Izaki and Reo for Himemiya and Heath <3 now just to sell that Nana. If anyone wants it, it’s your for 600yen!
---
And I’m done!! ^_^ hope you enjoyed it and I cannot WAIT for the last installment of this series! But I’ll also be very sad to see it finished; but more happy that the boys and cast can finally relax for a bit xD
