#WanderlustWednesday 🧳✈️🌍 Destination 8️⃣ is Jamaica 🇯🇲 • Have you ever visited this Caribbean country? _ I have traveled to Jamaica 3 times. In 2007, I attended a wedding in Ocho Rios with my family.Outside of the wedding festivities we were able to hit the beach and climb Dunn’s River Falls. In 2009, I attended a conference with my friends in Kingston and had an amazing time. We ate fried fish on the beach, drank rum punch, took a bath in the sea, and partied with conference attendees and locals at Passa Passa, a weekly street party that goes from sundown to sunrise. My last trip to Jamaica was in 2016. #WanderlustWednesday 🧳✈️🌍 Destination 7️⃣ is Canada 🇨🇦 • Have you ever visited the neighbor to the north? _ I first traveled to Canada, specifically the Toronto area, with my father to visit his side of the family when I was a child. I used to go with him every other summer. I do not remember much about those visits except that some of my cousins slighted me and after that, I refused to visit them again. I didn’t travel back to Canada until 2006 to attend my cousin’s wedding with my father. That was a quick trip, less than 48 hours. Last year, I took a short road trip to Montreal with one of my friends back to attend a Pokémon Go event and I had a really good time. I ate poutine, hung out in Old Montreal, and of course played Pokémon Go. #WanderlustWednesday 🧳✈️🌍 Destination 5️⃣ is Colombia 🇨🇴 • Have you ever visited this South American country? _ I traveled to Colombia in 2019 during my spring break. As it was my first trip to South America and my second solo trip, I chose Cartagena because it was listed by several black travel groups as a safe destination for solo female travelers. I stayed in Getsemaní, a neighborhood filled with colorful buildings, music, delicious street food, and amazing street art around almost every corner. Perfect for someone like who loves to walk and explore. While I was in Colombia, I also visited the Pink Sea, Mud Volcano, and the Barrio Islands, and the beautiful Playa Blanca. But the best part of my trip was seeing so many beautiful black Colombians from the brightly dressed palenqueras to the street vendors. #WanderlustWednesday 🧳✈️🌍 Destination 4️⃣ is Guatemala 🇬🇹• Have you ever visited this Central American country? _ I traveled to Guatemala in 2015 to attend a friend’s wedding. Spending six days in the Central American country, I fell in love with the city of Antigua where the reception took place. Once the capital of Guatemala, Antigua is a beautiful city known for its cobblestone streets, pastel-colored buildings, preserved Spanish colonial architecture, and nearby volcanoes. Our cruise originally stopped in St. Thomas, but we decided to take the 20-minute ferry to visit Saint John, which is the smallest of the three main US Virgin Islands and about 4 miles east of St. Thomas. After touring the island, I became fascinated with Aruba because of its unique climate. Unlike much of the Caribbean, Aruba has a dry climate and an arid, cactus-strewn landscape. The island, however, also boasts several beautiful white sand beaches. Where in the world was Toya T? Answer: El Gran Cenote in Tulum, Mexico. A cenote is a natural pit, or sinkhole, resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. Considered sacred waters by the Mayans, they were sometimes used for sacrificial offerings. El Gran Cenote is one of the most famous cenotes in Mexico. Have you ever immediately hit it off with a group of strangers in a foreign country? 🖤🖤 That’s exactly what happened during the Viva La Lengua Travel trip to Tulum. Eight different black American women traveled to Mexico and lived, ate, laughed, drank, discussed life and ratchet reality tv, partied, and explored together for 4 days. And, it was love, laughter, and good vibes from day 1. I don’t know if it was the relaxed vibes of Tulum, the expertly planned trip by @vivalalenguatravel & @heydrcort, the drinks (and magic brownies), or the amazing group of women. Whatever it was, it was pure #blackgirlmagic and I feel truly blessed to have experienced it.
