9:40 AM PST on Thursday January 9, 2025. Some fire progress updates
Woodley fire - 30 acres - contained and knocked down. Fire personnel still monitoring but otherwise safe
Sunswept fire - .5 acres - attacked very quickly and now inactive
Sunset fire - 42.8 acres - forward progress has been stopped and evacuation orders have been lifted
Lidia fire - 348 acres - forward progress stopped and containment at 60%. Great progress.
Hurst fire - 855 acres - perimeter has been established and 10% contained
Eaton fire - 10,590 acres - growth was significantly stopped during press conference this morning but recently started moving toward Mt. Wilson. Multiple aircraft and 800+ fire personnel working. Massive parts of Altadena and Pasadena have been completely destroyed
Palisades fire - 17,234 acres - most of Pacific Palisades and Malibu have burned. It’s hit the Getty Villa, multiple state parks and beaches, and still growing. LA fire chief described this as the worst natural disaster in Los Angeles history
Throughout Los Angeles County there are power outages, water boil notices and water shortage, gas is turned off in some parts. Throughout LA, Ventura, Orange, and even down to parts of San Diego county - poor air quality due to smoke and ash traveling far distances. Santa Ana winds are picking up again, though not as severe as yesterday (60mph winds today vs 80-100mph yesterday) this causes smoke and ash to spread and can even spark new fires miles away from the existing fires
Things are improving, but things are also still very bad

I’m loving Jared and Gen’s promo looks so far! They’re not too match-y but still complimentary, and they just look so glowy, happy, and healthy. Jared looks so good in earthy tones (I especially like todays look) and Gen in those sherbet colors 😍
I think "earthy" is the perfect term! Their looks went so well with their brand, the season, and with each other. And of course, both Jared and Gen pulled them off to perfection!
(I did have to laugh when I saw Jared in his comfort WW shirt on the ride to the studio. Maybe waiting until the last minute to change? lol!)

10 Dead, 10,000 Structures Burned In Los Angeles Area Inferno As Fire Damage Could Exceed $150 Billion
"I just feel numb right now… Everybody we know lost their homes."
Update (1245ET): Firefighters continued battling six wildfires across the LA County area. The two largest include Palisades (20,000 acres, 6% contained) and Eaton Fire (14,000 acres, 3% contained)…Fires raging across the Los Angeles area entered their fourth day, killing at least ten people, forcing the evacuation of 180,000 residents, and destroying more than ten thousand structures. Preliminary estimates place damages and economic losses up to $150 billion. As of Friday morning, five fires are burning across the LA County area. The largest, the Palisades Fire, has scorched 20,000 acres and is considered "one of the most destructive fires in the history of Los Angeles," according to the LA fire chief on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Eaton Fire has burned 14,000 acres. The newest fires are Kenneth and Hidden Hills, which expanded in the overnight hours.
Another Fire Breaks Out in Los Angeles: New Fire in Granada Hills Threatens Residential Homes (VIDEO)
A new fire broke out in Los Angeles on Friday as several other fires are burning with near zero percent containment.
The new fire in Granada Hills dubbed the “Archer Fire” is threatening residential homes. KTLA reported: A brush fire erupted in Granada Hills Friday prompting evacuation orders that were later downgraded to warnings amid what fire officials described as “erratic winds.” The Archer Fire was reported shortly before 10:30 a.m. in the 17200 block of West Sesnon Boulevard. It was initially said to have burned 2 to 3 acres, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. A mandatory evacuation order was temporarily issued for areas west of Balboa Boulevard, east of Tampa Avenue, south of Sunshine Canyon Road and north of Sesnon Boulevard. The order was downgraded to an evacuation warning at 11:42 a.m.

Pacific Palisades Reservoir Found Empty and Offline During Firestorm Catastrophe – 117 Million Gallons Could Have Saved the Day
Outrage is boiling over after revelations that the Santa Ynez Reservoir, a critical water source in Pacific Palisades, was empty and offline when a devastating wildfire ripped through the area.
The Los Angeles Times reported that despite the reservoir’s critical role in the city’s water infrastructure, it had been offline for nearly a year. The Santa Ynez Reservoir, with a capacity of 117 million gallons, could have played a critical role in providing water pressure to firefighters battling the devastating fire that destroyed thousands of homes and buildings in Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Malibu.

The McGee family of Thousand Oaks told KTLA they’d spotted a cougar cub on their property after reviewing security footage from motion-activated cameras. Other neighbors were fearful for their pets, the news channel reported.
But Tim Daly, public information officer for Fish and Wildlife’s South Coast and Inland Desert regions, said the agency investigated the claim and found that the animal in question was in fact a large domestic cat.
“One of our biologists saw the story after it appeared and made sure this morning the rest of us were aware,” he said.
The McGees did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
It’s not the first time California residents have mistaken a tame tabby for a ferocious wildcat.
In March, the South San Francisco Police Department posted Ring camera footage of a purported mountain lion to its Facebook page, following reports that the animal was prowling a residential neighborhood.
An update from the department clarified that the animal was in fact a domestic cat. One resident replied to the post with a picture of the pussycat asleep on a wicker chair between two smiling children.
Sometimes the news is actually hilarious.

Remembering Sam Rubins Growing up in Southern California, KTLA channel 5 was a staple. One of the most memorable aspects of the channel was the morning show, which introduced a new format in the late 80s, early 90s. The show had an incredible team of hosts, including the entertainment journalist Sam Rubins. Sam Rubins was a name synonymous with the world of entertainment journalism. He joined KTLA 5 Morning News in 1991 and instantly became a beloved figure on the show. His extensive knowledge of film and television, combined with his infectious charm, made him a central part of the morning broadcast. On Friday, tragedy struck when Rubins died suddenly in Los Angeles at the age of 64. His family confirmed that he passed away due to a heart attack. It came as a shock to his co-workers, as he had been on the air just the day before, showing no signs of illness. Rubin’s impact on KTLA and the entertainment industry was immeasurable. His news reports, interviews, and feature segments were integral to the morning show and became a defining aspect of KTLA’s brand. He was known for his touching obituaries, which beautifully encapsulated the lives of famous individuals who had passed away. Colleagues and friends shared their grief on live television, expressing their admiration for Rubins. Eric Spillman, who also started at KTLA in 1991, struggled to find the words to describe his friend’s career and life. Mark Kriski, the weather anchor on KTLA 5 Morning News, described Rubin as a beloved figure in Hollywood, with an unparalleled talent for connecting with people. Rubin’s celebrity interviews became legendary. Each morning, viewers were treated to his conversations with Hollywood icons and rising stars. He had a way of making his guests feel special and valued, creating an intimate and comfortable environment. The outpouring of tributes following Rubins’ passing was overwhelming. From Tom Hanks to Ben Stiller, celebrities and industry insiders expressed their condolences and shared their fond memories of the beloved journalist. Rubins was an institution in his own right, a respected figure who will be deeply missed. Sam Rubins was not only a talented journalist but a dedicated philanthropist. He supported various non-profit organizations and took pride in organizing KTLA’s team for the annual MS 150 Bay to Bay Bike Tour, raising funds for multiple sclerosis. Rubin leaves behind his wife, Leslie, and four children. His warmth, kindness, and genuine passion for all things Hollywood will be dearly missed. Sam Rubins was a true gem in the entertainment industry, and his legacy will forever be cherished.
