I remember reading this and found myself chipping towards Keiichiro until episode 6 happened or was it his poisoned saga. Though unlike OP, I'm firmly on both Team Lupin and Pato because tbh the first Ranger I fell for in this series was Kairi Angst Yano and right now I love both teams

Also Keiichiro is a good friend because yeah, previous episodes as of recent have confirmed it but episode 37 oh boy Keiichiro calls Kairi his friend and even after Kairi is still in his huge funk, Keiichiro is still determined to help him even though he doesn't know what is wrong with Kairi via for the time being, he'll watch over him

Why I’m on Team Pato: A Visual Mini-Essay

Let’s take a quick look at the ending scene of Lupinranger vs. Patranger again:

I love this scene for a lot of reasons, and not just because it’s hilarious. Throughout the episode, Tsukasa has tried desperately to hide the fact that she likes stuffed animals, only for Keiichiro to very casually reveal that he knew for almost as long as he’s known her. Cue the rest of the team nyucking it up and the episode ending on a happy note. But the real reason I love it is because it reveals more depth of Keiichiro’s character and also what a great friend he is.

I know what you’re thinking. “Great friend!? He just revealed Tsukasa’s secret!” Well just hold on a second. Look at that last picture just above. Does that look like a “Nyeh nyeh nyeh! This will go great in my blackmail folder!”-face? I don’t think it does. And now let’s look at Keiichiro’s face while the rest of the team teases Tsukasa.

This is not a “Haha! I got you!”-face. This is a “You know what I love to do? Chew.”-face. He doesn’t look smug or teasing because he doesn’t think he has anything to look smug or teasing about. He doesn’t see anything funny or earth-shattering in what he just said. Need more proof? Let’s go back to the beginning when Sakuya asked Keiichiro if he knew any of Tsukasa’s secrets (Sakuya, who asks that?).

And yet he did know her secret. So why did he say that? Was he lying? Well since it’s Keiichiro and his head didn’t explode from the exertion of doing something dishonest, I doubt it. Besides, his voice and facial expression in this scene don’t make it seem like he’s lying, so why did he say that despite knowing the fact that she likes to hug stuffed animals?

Because he didn’t think it was a secret. He didn’t think there was any reason for Tsukasa to hide it because he didn’t think there was any reason for her to be ashamed by it. Because he didn’t see anything wrong with it. He didn’t see her hugging a stuffed animal and think “God, how girly!”, he saw her and thought, “Oh, my friend likes stuffed animals. Neat. Welp! Off to go chew something!”

He didn’t judge her, tease her, insult her, or think anything less of her. He simply catalogued it away as just another fact about his friend. So yes, I think Keiichiro is a good friend. And yes, I am very firmly on Team Pato. Sorry Lupins.

New piece of inspiration for the Keiichiro/Tsukasa fic I've been working on

Note: This isn’t the review I mentioned before. It’s just me...being me, squealing over the last five minutes of the special because I got something I’ve been longing for, considering the latest events in canon.

The Ultimate Weird Combination was really hilarious, displayed another case of Kairi and Keiichiro pulling off amazing teamwork, and concluded with Sakuya getting told off for his perverted moment. But I was more delighted over the small Kairi/Umika I managed to pluck with my delusional eyes, at least the special knew to feed my feels for this couple

Since this took place in between episode 25~26 (and cementing how quite a bit of time elapses between each episode, barring the interconnected ones), obviously their identities are still safe and Umika expressed that with the cutest wink ever. Kairi smirking/smiling in response made it better for me haha

Kairi’s smile when Umika delivered comeuppance on Sakuya on her own dfdkdjdjd - I would’ve made a GIF of it but the file I downloaded for this special was too large to compress on a GIF-making site, so I had to compromise by trying to take dozens of screenshots. In the end, I settled on getting four screenshots of that smile and they’re all so nice

I never noticed that Kairi wears a ring on his right pinkie - maybe it was an accessory for that outfit only? Either way, I like it!

Canonically Kairi/Umika have had interactions from the teasing (though Kairi doesn’t tease Umika as much as he used to nowadays) to being goofy friends (episode 16 was so hilarious) to Kairi being soft on her, and their chemistry is so nice too - I just need more moments like this??? Especially ones where Kairi isn’t being a troll to Umika because 1) I’m a shipper and 2) it shows that in spite of what Kairi may think of himself, he is a nice guy like Umika’s dad thinks. Guess after I write a couple more C&C things, I’ll be writing drabbles/fics inspired by meta photos of Asahi Itou and Haruka Kudo
