god, what can i say about home without turning this into an essay?

it started off as a question:

why was i so angry about the future life kishimoto wrote for Sakura post-Naruto?

when i realized it was because he'd essentially given her my life, it was like being bitch-slapped. i wrote the first chapter in response to that epiphany (crying the whole time), then... never posted it. actually, it made me feel so much that i deleted it. thankfully, i was able to recover it on my google drive and i posted it before i could second guess myself

it's my self-indulgent love letter to myself, my therapy. and also... It's all my hopes, wrapped up in a dark tale of infidelity and the lengths societies will go to push women into boxes that cannot possibly contain them

it also happens to be what i'm working on right now! (like literally; the doc is open and i'm actively writing)

Hey Rayne! Just wanted to drop by for a quick session of praise and glory to your awesome self and the rollercoaster that Chapter 10 of HHU is. Seriously, your writing and your beautiful mind never fail to amaze me! It was such an amazing read that had my heart racing throughout. Damn do I feel bad for both Shikamaru and Naruto. And don't even get me started on those little bits of our beloved ShikaNeji interactions. MY POOR FUCKING HEART RAYNE, I SWEAR. Anyways, enough of my rambling (because it could go indefinitely when it comes to you and BtB universe), I fear I have a question for your lovely self.

Alas, I have noticed that you use dream and/or dreamlike sequences quite a bit in your writing (I remember there being some throughout the series) and they are always so vividly and marvelously done! That made me wonder (and here comes the question) have you ever had a lucid dream, sleep paralysis, astral projection or some similar experience? I ask this because some of the ways in which you are portraying your dream sequences seem very familiar to some of the sensations which occur during those strange (and a bit scary) moments. I have had my fair share of lucid dreams and sleep paralysis moments, so it's very interesting to notice parallels in your writing regarding my own experience.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes. These intense experiences have undoubtedly helped me write such scenes - to which I am both profoundly grateful and mildly unhinged.

I'm glad to know that the portrayals resonated with you regarding their relatability (again, can be tricky when writing altered consciousness experiences) though I'm sorry to learn you've been alotted a fair (or unfair!) share of sleep paralysis moments. 😵‍💫Ugh! I have listened to 74 and Skies Forever Blue.

Personally I... don't think either really has much of a connection to Deltarune? I just think sometimes, authors really like exploring certain themes over and over again. Toby seems to enjoy exploring metafiction in video games, and subversions about 'what the people who fill certain 'classic archetypes' 'classic archetypes' in stories. (And I can't blame him, personally. I keep thinking up and writing stories where the 'chosen one' is subverted somehow.)

Could Dess and Kris end up mirroring the Princess and Knight in 74? It's not impossible. I've actually heard the theory that Kris is opening Dark Worlds to search for Dess in isolation from the song 74 before now. I've also always wondered why the creator of the Dark Worlds is called the Knight, and not the Maker or Author or Dreamer or Dragon or something like that. If the person who happened to be creating Dark Worlds was introducing themself as 'the Knight,' that'd be one thing, but it strikes me as kinda strange that the role itself is called the Knight. Furthermore, as I've also theorized in isolation, if Dess is meant to be an Asriel/Flowey parallel, it's possible that she does want to be rescued deep down, but feels she doesn't deserve it and thus lashes out and shoves people away.

So, analyzing themes Toby has done before and a few things about Deltarune. It's not impossible. But we know so incredibly little about Dess that some of us can't even agree on her species, so this seems to be another thing that seems like a big stretch to theorize about. Even if I, personally, like this kind of character and subversion of a lot more than 'what if Dess was a HOOMAN'

...That sad. I'd actually say that Deltarune already seems to have two characters that fit this particular parallel and subverson. Berdly and Noelle on a Snowgrave work as slightly less of a stretch. But really not much of a 1-1 parallel. XD

My first thoughts after listening to 74 and Skies Forever Blue was that both of these protagonists have 'Asriel' Vibes - 74 & Asriel are twists on 'Fairytales' - 74 has a perverted Princess & Asriel is secret 'Frog Prince' - while Skies Forever Blue's Girl has a similar tragedy to Asriel - a videogame NPC who has fallen in love with a careless HeroTM - and turns self-destructive because of said love.

(Both Asriel & the Girl also have a moment where in lue of a missing protagonist, they take control of the videogame world around them, making themselves the Protagonist, if only for a moment.)

...Leads one to think that Toby Fox loves deconstructing childhood fairytales. Applies similarly to Toriel, Undyne, Asgore, and Chara - twists on the Witchy Stepmom, the Hero, the Evil Demon King, and the Player Character.

Kris is a 'Hero' - a Knight in Shining Armor - and the twist is in plain sight - they are a Villain too - the fountain creator - and capable of being pushed to hurt Noelle.

(Not a statement on whether Kris WANTS to be the Villain - I don't think they do - which is probably why they let themselves be possessed)

The Most Obvious 'Princess' is Noelle - she's fits the bill for nice, well-born, and extremely passive - and she reminds me a lot of the Princess from 74 - because underneath the role of Princess she hides a decently complex and powerful person - and her own ability to hurt people.

(Susie rounds out the triad by being a Dragon/Villain with the ability to be a Hero - though I think we're missing a good chunk of her story still for me to comment on this - right now I view her as a Shonen Hero (like Naruto) in denial of her role, who would rather give it up to Kris and Ralsei.)

(Ralsei is purposely making himself a Tutorial Tip Fairy - so there's not much going on there until he breaks and grabs protagonistdom by the reins.)

Pretty much on the nose that Berdly is a corrupted Knight with Noelle as his Princess - though I don't think he'll have a similar 'Role' in the future - I think he'll relax in future chapters - and his relationships with the class / his family explored more.

I like to think he has younger/older siblings, and that's why he's so pressured to stand out.

Unimportant conversation is an old comfort and he clings to the offer presented to him. “More than you,” she returns cooly. “Now get up. You’re coming back to my place.” She begins walking around the morgue collecting her own things. “I— What?” He stutters, all of him at once, fingers twitching and eyesight shaking. He’s still too many feet above the ground for this, it seems. “Why?” “You’re a mess,” Shouko explains, throwing a packet of cigarettes in her work purse; she has a nicer one that she brings out shopping and to cafés, he knows, that Utahime bought for her when they first started dating. The one she has for work is heavily worn and a dull brown; she’s had it since high school and they both pretend to forget where she’d gotten it from. “I don’t trust you by yourself and I don’t think you want to worry your kids, so you’re coming home with me.” “I’m fine, Shouko,” he tries to protest, but she shoots him a sternly unimpressed glare and walks back over to get in his face. “No you’re fucking not, don’t even try that right now. It won’t work. Besides…” she straightens up and turns away from him, tugging her bag’s strap up her shoulder. “You’re not the only one who needs some company tonight.”

okay on top of the brainrot writing this sparked in me my favorite favorite thing to write is characters with differing goals and they have very differing goals. i like when a character has already made a decision and i like writing characters disagreeing a bit. i just loveee when i get to write different motivations and i love them i love this convo and i like writing shouko mhm

H: How would you describe your style?

uhhh thats difficult lol but like i know i lean pretty hard into being very descriptive and i like a lottt of metaphors and imagery, but my main goal is always to get my mental picture across as much as i can, so i guess thats why. i like to keep dialogue on the sparser side, though. most of the time people dont monologue, so i try not to let the characters do it and i spent a lot of time rlly figuring out how ppl naturally speak so that i could do that ljsfdhb <33

More Than Enough

Series: Naruto: Shippuden

Pairing: Hyuga Neji x fem!reader

Summary: Neji isn’t used to feeling insecure, but when it comes to you, he just needs a little extra reassurance that he’s doing okay. (Also, first kiss? It’s not really explicitly stated, but I like to think that it is :3)

A/N: My first Naruto writing! To say I’m nervous to post this would be an understatement. I understand that Naruto isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and I promise it won’t be taking over the blog or anything. I’m just suffering from a little brainrot at the moment. I’ll tag everything I write for Naruto with “kris writes naruto” so feel free to block the tag if you like. And with that out of the way, let’s get on with it!

He feels it in the pit of his stomach. When Neji sees you leave the hokage’s office, it starts as a familiar upward swoop, warm and strange but not unwelcome. Then he sees Lee next to you, his arms moving animatedly as he speaks. He’s walking so closely to you that every once in a while, his hand brushes your arm. It’s too far away for Neji to make out Lee’s words, but the sound of your laughter carries to him on the breeze. The swoop takes a downturn and sours in his gut.

He’d been about to call out to you, but instead he watches silently. He’s so intent on the two of you that Tenten manages to catch him completely off guard. “She has a cute laugh, doesn’t she?”

“Hm?” He’s startled, but he doesn’t let it show as he turns to see Tenten beside him, a sly grin forming on her lips. 

“Your girlfriend,” Tenten says teasingly, nudging his arm with her elbow, “She has a pretty cute laugh. It’s okay to admit it, you know.”

“I know,” He says with a shrug. He’s still too distracted to come up with a sharper reply. Tenten rolls her eyes, and his gaze wanders back to you. His girlfriend. It’s only been official for a matter of weeks, and things really aren’t much different. He still trains and eats and sleeps, but the spaces in between are filled with you. Making time for you hasn’t been as difficult as he’d feared. Somehow, you just fit into his life so seamlessly.

Lee has finally caught sight of his teammates, pulling Neji out of this thoughts. “Tenten!” Lee shouts, his hands raised above his head in an exaggerated wave, “Neji!” When you see him, your face lights up, and you quicken your pace to cover the remaining space between you. You come to a stop at his side, hands clasped behind your back and an easy smile on your lips.

“How was your day?” You ask, and try as he might he can’t stop the small smile that’s forming.

“Fine,” He says, shifting ever so slightly closer to you, “It was nothing exciting or out of the ordinary.” You laugh softly at that. “What about yours? You got your mission assignment?” He notices a loose strand of hair tickling your cheek.

“Yup,” You nod, and he thinks about reaching out to tuck the piece of hair behind your ear, but he doesn’t move. “It’s C rank, so it should be pretty simple,” You shrug, “Especially considering the fact that I’ll have Lee with me,” You turn to his teammate, and now Neji understands why Lee has been practically vibrating behind you.

“Do not worry, Neji!” Lee presses a fist to his chest, “I will keep her safe for the duration of the journey!”

You roll your eyes, giving the well-meaning ninja a nudge with your elbow. “I don’t think I’ll need your protection, Lee,” You chuckle, and Neji lifts his chin a fraction, looking from you to Lee. You can take care of yourself. He’s well aware of that, and he knows Lee is, too. Lee is just, well, Lee. 

“It’s a short mission,” You turn to him now, “We’re leaving tomorrow morning, and we should be back by the end of the week. We’re just escorting a small merchant caravan to the Land of Tea. At this time of year, it should be an easy journey. Right, Lee?”

“Right!” Lee stands a little straighter, “Nothing to worry about at all, Neji.”

“I wasn’t worried,” He assures his teammate with a shake of his head, “The two of you are perfectly capable. The caravan will be in good hands.” That much he knows is true. You and Lee have always gotten along and worked together well, so it’s no surprise you’ve been assigned to the mission together. 

“Thank you, Neji!” Lee bows his head quickly, “Please, excuse me. I must get to my evening training session with Gai-sensei. Oh, Y/N!” He’s already begun to jog off, but he twists his body to look back at you, “I will see you tomorrow morning! Rest well!” With that, he’s off.

“That guy,” Tenten shakes her head with a sigh, “He certainly is a handful, isn’t he? Good luck on your mission,” She gives you a pointed look, “I know he’s just my teammate, but somehow I feel like I need to apologize for him.”

“No need, Tenten,” You dismiss the comment with a wave of your hand, “Lee’s not so bad. I think we’ll be just fine.”

“Well then, better you than me!” Tenten laughs, “I’ll see you two later, I’ve got to get home. Enjoy your evening!” With a teasing wink and a wave of her hand, she’s gone as well. Neji turns to you, your grin lit by the glow of the setting sun. Finally, he lifts his hand to tuck the stray strand of hair behind your ear. Ever so slightly, you lean into his touch.

“I suppose you want to get home?” He asks, swallowing back the hitch in his throat. He lets his hand fall back to his side now that your hair is back in place.

“Eventually,” You nod, “Let’s take the long way.” Just like that, the two of you fall into step, following the familiar route toward your house. It begins through the bustling streets of Konoha, passing by the shops and homes tucked in together as you walk side by side, the occasional brush of your arms the only point of contact between you. Even so, Neji enjoys the feel of you so close to him and the sound of your voice as you chatter on about the events of your day. Every so often he’ll offer a hum or a smile or a few words in response, but he’s mostly content just listening to you. 

The crowd begins to thin toward the edge of town, and the storefronts become more sparse. As the two of you pass by your favorite dumpling shop, he comes to a stop. “Do you want to go in?” He asks, and you make a thoughtful sound before shaking your head.

“No, not today. I’d rather just walk. Is that okay?” You tilt your chin up to look at him.

“Of course,” He nods quickly. He’d like nothing more. 

“It’s such a beautiful evening,” You continue, tucking your hand in the crook of his elbow and pulling him along toward the path along the edge of town. Following dutifully along, he hums in agreement. This path eventually winds through the woods, and Neji can’t count how many times you’ve walked it together. The quiet of the woods is one of your favorite places, and one where he can tell you feel more at ease. 

Beneath the trees, darkness is falling a little faster than in the open, and the air is cooler. He’s glad to be away from the crowded streets. Wordlessly, you slide your hand down his arm, and when your fingertips brush his palm he slides his fingers between yours.

He thinks back to Tenten’s comment earlier. She often likes to tease him about how reserved he is in showing his affection for you. He knows she doesn’t mean anything by it, but Neji wonders sometimes if it’s something you notice, as well. It’s not that he doesn’t want to hold your hand or put his arm around you while you’re in town. It’s just that showing the world something as private and intimate as his feelings for you feels strange to him. He’s far from embarrassed of you, and he hopes that you know that. 

The thought crosses his mind for the first time. Perhaps you’d be better suited to someone like Lee. Someone who would dote on you and shower you with affection. Someone who wouldn’t hesitate to shout his admiration for you to the world.

“Neji,” You give his hand a tug, slowing to a stop and turning to look at him, “You’re quiet. Is everything alright?” You give his fingers a gentle squeeze.

“I’m fine,” He says, offering you a small smile. The concern on your face makes him regret getting so lost in his own thoughts and worrying you. 

“You had this little frown on your face,” You say softly, letting go of his hand and reaching up to cup his cheek, “You know you can talk to me, right?”

He’s about to brush it off and keep walking, knowing you should get home and rest before tomorrow, but something earnest in your expression stops him. “Can I ask you something? Promise you’ll tell me the truth?” He asks quietly.

“Of course I will,” You nod. “Want to walk and talk?” You gesture to the path ahead, and he nods. He seeks out the comfort of your hand in his again before continuing. Somehow, it feels easier this way.

“I’ve just been thinking,” He begins, shooting a furtive glance your way, “Am I a good boyfriend for you? I know I don’t always have a lot to say, and I spend a lot of time training. Tenten says I don’t pay much attention to you even when we’re together. And... is it enough? Because-”

“Hey,” You interrupt him before he can slip his hand out of yours, coming to a stop again and holding on tighter, “It’s more than enough.” You’re actually smiling at him. “You’re the best boyfriend I could ask for, Neji. Honestly.” You shake your head, and he’s so frozen at your response that he lets you take both of his hands in yours. “I already know you’re serious, and reserved, and quiet, and I like all of those things about you.”

“You do?” He finds his voice only to be skeptical. You laugh softly.

“I do,” You insist. “Y’know, I don’t need you hanging onto me all the time. That’d actually be kind of weird,” You giggle, “I think every single moment with you is special. You’re sweet, and caring, and thoughtful. You make me feel like... like...” You trail off, suddenly ducking your chin nervously.

“It’s okay,” He murmurs, smile growing wider as he drops your hands to cup your face this time, tilting your chin back up with his fingertips so he can meet your gaze again. Something warm and tender is filling his middle, threatening to overflow.

“Happy,” You finish then, softly, “You make me feel happy.”

“You make me feel happy, too,” He whispers, leaning in so that his lips fit perfectly against yours, kissing you softly. “Very happy,” He adds as he pulls away. Even in the semi-darkness, your smile nearly takes his breath away. He’s grateful that you’re alone here, because it gives him the courage to kiss you again.

Kakashi watches your fingers work their way around his blue sweater, expertly understanding and assessing each little cut or tear and getting rid of it. His cheek placed on his right hand, eyelids hanging low as usual, he feels at ease in your presence. Always does.

You own a little shop along the busiest street of Konoha, a family enterprise, which is lucky because otherwise you could have never afforded it. Kakashi knows there are different stores to get clothes now, more machine work, faster, cheaper, but he still comes to you if he needs something done or redone or altered. He tells himself it is about the quality of the product.

Shinobi need a lot of clothes and even though he has many different versions in his apartment, Kakashi finds himself around in your store a lot. He cuts and bruises his clothes almost as often as he hurts himself. A side effect of not caring about himself too much. 

“It’s really not that hard”, he hears you say, “It’s a form of chakra weaving.” You demonstrate the needle work again, closing down a tear from a kunai that Naruto threw at him in their recent training session. Kakashi sighs at the memory. Your eyebrows raise slightly, but you don’t ask.

This is really why he comes here over and over again. There might be cheaper options just down the street, maybe the work would be done faster, but Kakashi likes the atmosphere here. A quiet, calm place, filled with fabrics. He likes that you chatter when he needs to push negative thoughts away, when he just wants to listen. He just needs to ask one question and you run off. Talking about work, about family, about the fact that you are in awe of shinobi, anything.

You inquire about him too, ask about the bruises he brings home from missions. Aware of those invisible bruises he is carrying around too, but if he doesn’t want to talk about it you don’t pry, which he likes. But above all he appreciates that you both can sit in silence when the world is too loud. Some visits you exchange almost no words other than “hello” “goodbye” and “thank you” and he enjoys that. Sometimes he needs the quiet.

It’s not like you haven’t explained your method of working to him before, the fact that it is similar to medical ninjutsu in the way of concentrating and weaving. Kakashi remembers from the last time you told him, but he asked again anyway. Your eyes light up with excitement when you can be proud of your abilities. He likes watching you like that.

You laugh while you put another thick thread in a large needle: “I feel like I fixed this one only last week. Kakashi-san, do you have only one sweater?” He lets his eyes fall to the piece of clothing in front of you. Obviously he has more than one, but lately he has found himself unable to wear another. “I have some”, he murmurs back.

“Maybe we should make you a completely new set”, you suggest, your eyes flying to the piece of paper with sizes on your wall. “If you want to of course.” You have his measurements written down somewhere from the last time he came by to get a new vest. That wasn’t even so long ago, Kakashi realises. The Hokage should really pay more support money for torn clothes.

“Hmmm”, Kakashi replies, mulling over your suggestion. Your fingers find a little patch at the side of his sweater, a part that is usually covered by his vest and you laugh at the discovery: “Oh, I remember that one! I can’t believe you still have that sweater.”

With the first Jonin outfit a few years ago after his Anbu missions had ended he had gone to see you, on a whim, to get it done. Kakashi had known nothing about you or your business and just decided on the first store he came across. You’d given him his first set, tailor made for him, and he had returned ever since.

Not that long ago on his first mission with his new team this sweater, his first, had been torn up quite badly. Upon inspection you had suggested breaking it apart at the seams and making a new one. He still had a few at home to wear, but somehow he didn’t want to part from this first one. To him, it marked a new beginning, a different version of himself. “Can you not fix it somehow?”, he had asked, trying to keep his desperation to a minimum.

You were perceptive about others, putting your finger immediately onto the right spot. “Don’t want to lose the very first one, hm?” you had replied and smiled a smile that he had felt to his core. For a moment you had fixated on his only uncovered eye as if you were searching for something in them, but then you had clapped your hands. 

“Alright, what can I use?” you had said, eyes flying through the room for ideas. Kakashi had been so thankful that you even tried to get this hole fixed up. He knew that it was unreasonable to be attached to a clothing item, especially a torn one, but he couldn’t help himself. “I guess we could try it with these ones.” You took him to a corner of your shop that had a spread of patches, mostly for children, flowers, hearts, but also clan symbols, on display. You had looked at him wide eyed and expectant.

From time to time after that he stood in front of the mirror checking himself when wearing it. The little dog on his left with the happy, greeting smile reminded him of you. Somehow, it had become a sort of charm for him, something he wore only on important missions away, when he truly needed company. The first time his students had seen it Naruto had pointed at it and laughed: “Sensei, what is that?” and Kakashi did not feel embarrassed by the callout. The embarrassment came only when Sakura added: “Clearly, someone special put that in for him.” Once again displaying an expert judge of character. He had quickly put his vest back on.

Pulling himself out of his thoughts, Kakashi nodded slowly to what you said: “I like wearing this particular sweater.” It was an earnest reply without giving away too much of his inner thoughts. He left out the fact that it was by far his favourite, that he loved touching the patch as if it were a good luck charm, that it was broken so often because he wore it as much as he could, that he liked coming back and seeing it be fixed by you.

As if you read his thoughts you say: “It reminds me a little of you.” Your eyes move over the old fabric, torn one too many times, fixed over and over again by small stitches. “It should be broken, sorted out, maybe replaced by newer models, but no matter how much it gets cut up it keeps together somehow.” Kakashi can feel his heart flutter lightly as you look up to him: “You bring it here and I fix it. I’d fix it a hundred times over, if you’d want me to.” 

The metaphor isn’t lost on him.

Kakashi and you exchange a look, just for a moment resting eyes on each other, then you turn your attention back to the sweater beneath you. He can’t help but wonder why you said something like that now.  “Anyway,” you change the subject, the usual customer friendly smile back on your face, “I think you should get a new set anyway.”

Kakashi puts his head to the side. He doesn’t really need a new one. Not only because it would be a big dent in his finances, but also because he has absolutely fine, new, even unworn ones in his closet at home. He only pretty much ever wears this one sweater because of the patch and connection to you. Still, something inside him is unwilling to leave right now and so he says “Sure, that would be practical.”

He watches you finish the tears in the sweater and reach for the page of measurements. “What do you think, Kakashi-san, should we do new measurements or are these from a month ago still valid?” you ask, eyebrows raised. Kakashi can feel his neck warm up a little at the mention of “a month ago”. Has it really been only so little since he’s come here to get another set? How childish.

“I have no idea”, he lies, even though he knows very well that the measurements are probably still fine. “Maybe we should make new ones.” Stupid, he thinks to himself, stupid, stupid. But he can’t help it. There is this deep desire in him to spend more time around you. With a kind smile you fold the now fixed sweater together and place it on your counter. Then you get up to get your tape.

With a sigh Kakashi also gets up to move to the mirror. He has done this with you so many times now, that he knows exactly where he has to stand. You come by, a little stool in tow. “Stand up straight, please” you instruct him nicely and he leaves his familiar crouch to set himself up to full height. You climb on the stool and start measuring.

Fingers touching his arms from the wrist to the elbow to the shoulder, the neck and the throat and moving over his chest. His skin prickles when you move over it as if you left little bubbles behind. He breathes out deep and nervous in a way. You’re so close to him he can almost touch your face with his. It’s his favourite part. Nothing feels more intimate than this tailoring session. “Shit”, you say as you clumsily drop the tape down to the side, while you are trying to move it over his chest again. He laughs as you catch it between two fingers, your other hand still resting on his chest.

You pull yourself back up and Kakashi watches you get hold of the tape by rolling it back up. Then he notices that your hand is on his chest. He didn’t see before, too caught up watching how cute you are when clumsy, but now he feels your touch like a burn over his heart. His eye falls down and moves over your hand. He wants to take it in and wants to feel the fingers between his. Surely they are warm, surely they are soft. He fights the urge. He loses.

As if pulled by a large force his arm moves up to take your hand into his. It is so sudden and gentle that your face shoots up and he can see the blush in it. “K-Kakashi-san?” you ask, voice a little broken. Kakashi has to compose himself too, unable to really formulate the words in his mind. He touches your fingers without moving his eye away from your face. They are soft and warm, just like he thought, tips a bit rough from your daily work, but wonderful.

He listens into himself, the sound of his heartbeat going steady and fast. What is it? He says your name a bit breathless and then it hits him like a lightning strike. “Oh,” is the only sound that leaves his mouth. “Oh?” you ask, confused. He moves his other free hand to the top of your head, resting it there to steady himself. All of it clicks into place in his head. Why he was always coming back, why he loved watching you so much, the way your smile and your hands made him feel. During his ANBU days he had gotten so empty and emotionless that he hadn’t even noticed how it had crept up on him until it was too late.

“Do you want to go out with me?”

Your face blushes hard and you sway a little, but he keeps your hand pressed to his chest. Kakashi watches as your lips quiver a little, seemingly overwhelmed by the question. “Uhm,” he says, now also feeling red and faint, “maybe I shouldn’t have asked.” Your mouth opens quickly, but you avert your eyes from him: “No! I-I mean, it’s good that you asked.” Both of you are breathing irregularly with nerves now, but finally you nod slowly: “Yes, I-I would love to.”

Relief washes through him and he breathes out deeply. He feels happy in a way he hasn’t in a long time. Before you can say anything else he pulls you into a hug that pulls you off the stool you're standing on. You feel good in his arms and for a moment or two you just remain close to each other. Maybe somehow, someway, he had always wanted to do that since he’d met you.

Finally, you pull away. Your face is still red and you stagger a little as you go back from him, your hand still entangled with Kakashi’s. “Do you want me to finish the measurements?” you ask. He laughs. It totally slipped his mind what you were doing before. He looks to you kindly, his uncovered eye sparkling in the lights of your shop. 

“Anything, as long as I can spend time with you.”

Big Brother!Chen Headcanons

Okay so this isn’t what I normally post because this is based on a dream I had - and I’m writing this at like 04:44am

But I had to write it before I slept again shh

He’d just be such a good big brother wtf

Initially, it’d be difficult for him to adjust to being a big brother

He’d be a bit awkward for a while, not totally sure of himself

But after an initial bonding period, he becomes super clingy and attached to you

And there’s no going back from there

He’s caring, attentive and listens to everything you have to say

Even as small children he’d do everything he could to take care of you, mindful of his responsibility as an older brother

He’d teach you right from wrong and give you all the life advice an 8 y/o had to offer

He’d always think you’re adorable, even as you grow up he’d always pinch your cheeks and ruffle your hair

Sometimes him hovering around you can get annoying, but for the most part, you enjoy his attention

He’d always treat you as best friends, even if he was 7 and you were 2

He’d always invite you to play with his friends and they treated you good too

Despite him being so bubbly and loud and bEAGLE he’s able to get extremely stern and protective when needed, like a second mom

You used to get bullied in kindergarten but everyone knows not to fuck with you because they had a 9 y/o Jongdae try and square up to them (i.e. he’d just shout a lot and they got scared because loud noises)

He would honestly risk his life for you and any other sibling you had

Jongdae has always been extremely good with younger children, specifically babies

But he gets extremely nervous around babies he doesn’t know, anyway, because babies cry a lot and are hella fragile and he’s scared of dropping them or something

But once he gets to know them, he’s real good at it

I can imagine as a toddler you doing everything in your power to annoy the fuck out of him, and while it took everything he had in him not to throw you out of a window, he never got mad at you.

You ate all of his Halloween candy, barged into his room without asking, screaming for no apparent reason (the first few times this was annoying to him because he didn’t understand, but after a while, he’d just join in and eventually you stopped because he out-screamed a 3 y/o)

When you both reached a similar age, or when you reached teenage years, you became closer and more comfortable with each other than when he was a teenager and you were a child/preteen

Jongdae always knows when something is wrong and it’s impossible to lie to him about it

You usually go to him when you’re upset or angry

Once, he found you in your room sobbing your eyes out and at first, he was shocked, but he soon pulled you into his arms

“Don’t you dare think you can’t ever come and talk to me.”

Unwanted or unexpected hugs

Especially when you haven’t seen him in a while or if he’s just come back from tour.

“Get the fuck off me.”

“Accept my love!”

He loves hugs and cuddles so freaking much

And he smiles the brightest when you willingly hug back

You teal his food when he’s not looking

Like he could turn away to talk to your dad or something and suddenly he’d have half the amount of fries as before

Arguing about who gets to use the bathroom first but him giving in and letting you go

Jongdae would 10/10 spoil you like omg

Need money? Got it

Only one cookie left? He doesn’t need it

You want literally anything ever? Even before debuting he’d buy you whatever you wanted before you asked

You miss him a lot when he’s not around but you still talk often on the phone and Jongdae will drive down and visit when he has breaks on his schedule

When he first became a trainee and meets Minseok he talks your ears off about him

He’s in awe of this new friend and wants to brag about him to you

You love to hear about this new friend, though

When you finally meet Minseok during freshman year, you adore him

Freshman year sucks ass, but Minseok is such a big ray of sunshine, and him and Jongdae coming to visit becomes the highlight of freshman year for you

When you get further into high school you talk to him less

Not for any particular reason other than teenage hormones and being busy, paired with his busy life as an idol

While it’s a bit disappointing to him, he doesn’t really try to think much of it because of course, you are just busy with school and all that jazz

You’d made your own friends and developed your own interests, ones that didn’t necessarily include playing video games with him for hours on end or role-playing sailors in the basement (sadly)

PIGGYBACK RIDES FROM HIM !!!!!

When you were younger (and maybe even sometimes now if the ceiling allows for it), Jongdae used to let you ride around on his shoulders

You sometimes do that creepy thing where you talk at the same time

Kris: “(yawning) morning”

You and Jongdae in unison: “morning, yifan”

Kris, freaking out: “ejeesusg”

You have a really cringey secret handshake and haven’t done it since he moved into the dorms

One day after a really good show, you’re backstage for him and you just do it out of nowhere and everyone (including them) is like ‘holy shit’

(Junmyeon and Yixing try to learn in later on)

You’ve both binged watched all of Naruto at least four times

He’d nag you a lot, but you knew it came from a good place and didn’t mind much

He always has you laughing

Whether it’s because he walked into a wall, told a shitty joke or it sat on top of you, tickling the soul ou of your body

He’d honestly adore you

Forehead Kisses

Pairing: Hyuga Neji x reader

Summary: Neji has learned to open up to you in many ways, but he still struggles with the vulnerability his cursed seal makes him feel. You just want him to know it’s okay to feel that way.

A/N: your honor I’m in love with him It’s worth mentioning that every Neji fic I write that’s not based on a request takes place in the same universe in my head, whether it matters story-wise or not. This little drabble is something I’ve had on my mind for a while and I’ve really been looking forward to writing it!

On another note, I pinky promise my next fic will be a hq fic. I already have a pretty good idea of which request I’m going to write, I’m just not sure when it’ll be posted. But rest assured, I’m leaving you off the Naruto train even though I’m still on board lmao

In the time you’ve been dating, nights like this have become a familiar routine. After Neji had helped you with your taijutsu training in the afternoon, you’d prepared a simple meal to share. Now, tired and feeling pleasantly full, you’re sipping tea, enjoying the quiet of the evening and the cool night air drifting through the open window. 

When your tea cup is empty, you push it back on the table with a content sigh, glancing over at your boyfriend. Neji offers you a small smile, standing from the table and gathering your cups to take to the sink. You stretch your arms over your head with a yawn before standing yourself, moving to a much more comfortable spot on the couch. 

When Neji reappears in the doorway, his smile softens at the sight of you curled up on the couch. On his way to sit down, he pauses in front of you to brush a stubborn piece of hair behind your ear, leaning in to press a tender kiss to your forehead. You can’t help the warm smile that steals across your face. Neji finally takes the spot next to you, his arm resting comfortably around your shoulders.

Looking into his face, you feel the urge to return his gesture, but as usual, bandages are covering most of his forehead. You rest your hand on his chest instead, fingers absently toying with the worn fabric of his shirt. If it’s not his headband, those bandages are almost always there, covering up the cursed seal you know is underneath. You can count on one hand the number of times you’ve seen it.

“Hey, Neji,” You finally speak up, gaze flickering from the bandages covering his forehead to look him in the eye.

“Hm?” He hums, giving your shoulder a gentle squeeze, prompting you to continue. 

“If you’re relaxing, wouldn’t it be much more comfortable to take these off?” You reach up, and your fingers just graze the bandages before he turns his head. You feel his body stiffen against you, and you immediately draw your hand away. “Sorry.” You murmur.

“No,” He says softly. “It’s alright. It’s easier to leave them on, mostly,” He lets out a single low laugh, but the sound is completely hollow. “And I just - I don’t like to think about how you feel, seeing... it.” 

“Neji,” You say softly, catching his hand in yours and giving it a squeeze. “It doesn’t bother me. I mean, well, sometimes it makes me a little angry,” You huff out a frustrated chuckle, “But it’s just part of you, you know? So if you want to keep it covered, well, of course you can. But you don’t have to on my account.”

He looks at you, then, a little misty-eyed, and drops his hand from yours. With slow, measured movements, he reaches to unravel the bandages. “I guess it’s more of an old habit,” He admits as they fall away, revealing the seal and everything it represents.

You lift your hand, then pause. “Can I... will it hurt if I touch it?”

He even manages a small smile as he shakes his head. “No. You can touch it, if you’d like.”

“Are you sure?” Suddenly you wish you hadn’t even suggested something so intimate. He nods, tilting his chin down, eyes never leaving your face.

“Okay,” You breathe, slowly lifting your hand until your fingertips brush the mark. It’s completely smooth, indistinguishable from his skin by touch. Your touch doesn’t linger there long before you slide your hands along his cheeks, framing his face. His brows begin to knit in confusion, but you don’t see the fully formed expression, because you close your eyes and gently tilt his head toward you, pressing your lips to his forehead for a few moments. You hear a shaky breath ghost from his lips, and pull back to look him in the eye again.

“You can cover it again, if you want.” You say softly, a tender warmth bubbling in your middle as you watch his slightly parted lips curl into a smile. Wordlessly, he pulls you close, your head nestling against his chest as his lips press against the top of your head.

“No,” He breathes into your hair, “Not tonight.”

Not to derail @depressedhatakekakashi‘s post about their OC I’m making my own post instead of reblogging, but if I had one wish that I would change about Naruto it would be a scene, even if tiny, in which Kakashi just gets to be angry at his dad. Just a little. He can forgive Sakumo after. But he deserves the anger first.
