If the third Reiwa Rider series features a lady Rider then I hope she isn’t serving a morally ambiguous/villainous male figure while trying to assert she’s his equal when she’s clearly not. I suppose there’s some good ways of executing/subverting this (i.e. turns out she's eviler than thine, she’s using him for her ambitions, she breaks free of his control over her), and Reika isn’t guaranteed to stay subservient to Master Logos. But after spending a whole season liking Yua and disliking the show’s treatment of her, and seeing Reika claim her word is as good as Master Logos’, I can’t take another version of this

If the notes I got in an hour’s time are anything to go by, people really love Reika’s debut henshin (and it is a lovely henshin, the clothes fluttering away aside)

I do think Yua’s take on the trope had some nuance (i.e. she doesn’t blindly obey Thouser Junior, before and after the infamous scene in the firefighter arc) and I contemplated on mentioning that in the original post. But addressing it would likely create a red carpet of a post, so I kept it to generalizing what was the brunt of Yua’s conflict, and mentioned some good existing in the trope to point towards the nuance ^^
Yeah, it’d be nice if they changed the roles up for non-main heroine Riders. It almost feels like they want to distinguish her from the female lead, who’s usually very kind and supports everyone, but they swing the whole other direction and in 2021 Reika’s serving a male master -_-

(To avoid making two reblogs of the same post (+ I’ve been replying to the same ones for several days now), here’s my response to another reblog made by @/maswartz, link included)
@maswartz reblogged:
I just want a female rider from the start or near the start who isn’t 1. Is actually a good guy 2. Just obeying some guy 3. Isn’t a pawn 4. Isn’t literally looking for some strong guy to bow to *glares at Marika* 5. Has agency 6. And the big one… DOESN’T DIE Come on Japan prove us wrong about you!
The wish that has existed in my heart since 2018

They did try to rectify the problem through episode 33 and other small instances, so I’ll give them that (plus I enjoyed them). But I’ll admit that despite her emancipation, it felt like she wasn’t much better off from before. Especially when the story made her associate to her former oppressor in various ways during the fourth arc - down to him installing her as A.I.M.S. captain, rather than Yua choosing/earning the title out of her own volition. It didn’t feel any different from when she was transferred to and fro from ZAIA and A.I.M.S. Of course, she needed all the allies/resources she could get, it didn’t change her disdain for him, episode 38 outright states her niche is with A.I.M.S and she has the support to back her up, and Yua could’ve just as easily refused his assistance. However, I think there could’ve been ways to avoid that

She did went against Master Logos’ words behind his back.
True, though it felt like a minor moment of defiance, and it didn’t help that Master Logos couldn’t care less either way + Reika declared her will was whatever he wished
