Just yesterday I was talking to @amedawg18 about how much I miss SuperM. They were the first kpop boy group I ever vibed with, when I knew nothing about the members or even that they were a supergroup. I just liked the music. It’s obviously never going to happen though given that Taemin and Baekhyun are no longer under SM plus whatever is going on with Lucas.

So if we’re talking more realistically about groups that could have a comeback I can’t wait for Monsta X to have a comeback with all the members.

♡࿐🦢 BREAKING :: MYDOL ENTERTAINMENT BUYS SUGAR N' SPICE'S CONTRACT

Earlier this morning, Angelico Entertainment and MyDol Entertainment officially announced that the latter company had bought out the contract for one of Kpop's leading girl groups, Sugar N' Spice.

The five-member girl group has been managed by Angelico since their debut in 2019, having consistent and chart-topping comebacks over their 5 years together. When MyDol's current CEO, Son Jinhwa, stepped down from being the CEO of Angelico back in 2023, SNS never stopped their busy schedule and quickly had a comeback with their 4th full album in October of the same year.

Quickly after SNS wrapped up their promotion cycle, they went silent as a group, only making whole group appearances at the end-of-year award shows and similar events. All the members participated in their own solo activities, most notably with Mika making her debut in the idol supergroup Starzie, but otherwise, Angelico was dead silent on anything group-related.

Many fans were hoping this meant the girls would be getting a well-deserved rest, but their hopes were quickly shut down when MyDol released this official statement this morning.

"Hello, this is MyDol Entertainment. After a very lengthy period of contractual disputes between us and Angelico Entertainment, we are glad to inform you all that from this day forward, Sugar N' Spice will be a part of the MyDol family. All five members have signed artist contracts with us and will begin work as soon as they settle into their new routine. We are very excited to begin this journey with these talented ladies and hope their beloved Sweetarts can accept this new change and continue to cheer the Sweets on in the future. - MyDol Entertainment"

The girls were seen leaving MyDol this morning after the announcement was made, supposedly having just finished signing their contracts and then heading to officially begin their moving process. The most popular member, Mika, was absent from the public display, rumored to have taken a back exit to leave the building before she expressed her annoyance with her current situation on her Instagram story.

Despite public backlash, Mika has not deleted any of her stories, and MyDol has not released any statements regarding the situation.

Taemin released a mini album. Honestly, listen to all of it, even the more ballad-y fare but honestly... Sexy In the Air is a track EVERYONE should give a shot. It's what it says on the tin--sexy. Highlights: Horizon, if you like Kavinsky but want a kpop, energy-infused twist, try this out! (ITS A REACH BUT!!). Crush has some MJ-esque delivery that is very enthralling. Deju Vu is for the people who want to feel songs vibrate in their bones and in their [redacted]

Tinashe released her follow-up to the (superior) BB/Angel! My faves are No Simulation, Thirsty, When I Get You Alone, + No Broke Boys. Chill, alt R&B. Ethereal, sensual. Tinashe and Taemin should collab or at least do choreo to each other's songs tbh. NBB is a modern reimagining of No Scrubs

Foster the People is baack. BIASED REVIEW because I'm a longterm fan. See You in the Afterlife (oddly cunty??), Feed Me (cuntier except some of the instrumental could've been produced on Gene Belcher's random sound keyboard), Paradise State of Mind (Tame Impala knock off, mayhaps), & Glitchzig (discordant, extraterrestrial).

Fromis_9, a kpop group, has had a mini release. Here's a mini review: Supersonic & Beat the Heat have a throwback appeal. Simple, joyful pop with a non-obtrusive vocal power behind it. Talent wins <3

JPEGMAFIA released a new album and it's... beyond explanation? Alt hip hop with an amazing infusion of rock, gospel, dance elements. Dark, funny, slick as hell. Highlights: i scream this in the mirror before i interact with anyone, sin miedo (my fave, I think), don't rely on other men, vulgar display of power, Exmilitary (great use of samples), JPEGULTRA! (denzel!!!!!!!!! HORNS!!!!!!!!1), either on or off the drugs (one of my faves, absolutely), & loop it and leave it. If you're like "that's a lot of songs," okay well the entire album is good. 9.9/10 album

"Feel The Way" Peggy Gou. Just a solid dance track.

Ibibio Sound Machine's Black Notes is groovy and vocally ascendant.

"Leave" Low Hanging Fruits is Krock that feels straight out like... mid 2000s alt-pop rock. Just lively and lovely.

My blog title was taken from a Chase & Status song, so of course I need to shout out their collab with Stormzy, "Backbone." Just goes hard, is grimy as hell, and goes WUB WUB.

Want something that goes harder? Petit Brabancon, Japanese metal supergroup, is back and "Gankou" is... growling and intense and also just kinda fun.

Not here for music that might be a bit scary? "Edge of Saturday Night" The Blessed Madonna, Kylie Minogue is some eurodance to take the edge off.

If you like that track, try "Urallineed" by Jazzi Bobbi for some vaguely dancy indie pop. Love her voice.

This could've gone on the album review but honestly... Monkey Majik's new album is kinda Maroon 5-y and doesn't deserve a full shout out but give HYLMN a listen if you want to hear a fun, misremembered rip off of Blur's Song 2. Also, I guess the song Imposter.

"Check" by Flo is like... the kpop tracks inspired by Tinashe but... not kpop. Does that make sense? American, Fifth Harmony-esque song that feels like a kpop GG ripping off American Tinashe. A perfect feedback loop. Delectable.

"Out of Touch" Four Year Strong. Throwback, pop punk sound with a modern flourish.

"Nissan Altima" Doechii. As a Nissan driver, I had to rec this lmao. Great song, great flow, GET YA TITS SUCKED

Everyone getting upset about the Jikook content being monetised:

Having two members of the most famous supergroup in the world right now travelling around several countries for content is expensive af. With it being technically a work trip (and imho a very convenient union of two people clearly wanting to spend time together, them seeing the opportunity for some quality content during enlistment, and adding some padding to the whole travel permit pre-enlistment they'd have needed), I don't think they would've made Jikook pay for most of the expenses. But the hours of pay for staff, editors, security etc etc that would've been needed for the travel show need to be generated by the show. I don't know the deal between Hybe and Disney+, who paid who how much and so on, but I guess adding more profit - sth BTS and Jikook would itself profit from (meaning more free content later, more funds for things post enlistment) - isn't something unusual.

That said, there's plenty of options to consume BTS content without paying a single dollar. And I think, apart from pirating their music obviously, they'd be understanding because they know how it is to not have enough money.

Just because BTS produce something you can buy doesn't mean you have to. I myself haven't bought all the solo albums because 20 Dollars every few months just isn't something I can include in my budget. Same for the kdrama or the photofolios or the DDay concert dvds. But there's people that upload scans of the pics online, qdeoks exists for those of us who can't spend 50 Dollars for every boxset to watch one concert we like. You absolutely don't need to buy it, but they produce all this content anyway because it will undoubtedly sell. Is it capitalism? Yup. But that's just this world right now.

I'm of the opinion, kpop should add a version of albums or dvds without all the fancy extra stuff, to make it more accessible for the average consumer. Maybe the price will just be 5 Dollars less but that could be enough for many people in the fandom. Same for DVDs - I love the thought of 25 photocards of my beloved AgustD being all "tongue technology" on stage, but that's just not a realistic price tag for the average army to pay. It sold out, because people save up for it or are just rich and I can't be mad at the company to continue to make these products if they sell like hotcakes: it's just supply and demand.

Anyway. Eat the rich (though BTS maybe not), fuck capitalism and let Jikook be 🌈 for money.

yes exactly! you're a fan if you love bts and consider yourself a fan. you don't need to buy anything to be a fan. it's nice to have merch though I think because it's just nice things to have but it's not a prerequisite to being a fan or something everyone "needs to" buy. there's lots of merch I'd love to own but I can't afford to spend 100s of bts every month. you can always buy merch later too, you don't have to buy stuff immediately.

this monetisation thing is only coming up because it's jikook and people are looking for any excuse to be shitty. no one said the wooga squad is leeching off tae for in the soop friendcation or made up any weird theories about that. and I am not a fan of the wooga squad (sans tae obviously) and tbh the comments they made would have made it so easy to call that a fake scripted money grab.

Hoshi (SVT) - he's a literal choreographer??? and creates the most amazing dances?? like literally every svt choreo is mesmerizing and the point dance is always so memorable so... Hoshi is the obvious choice for a solid performance. plus his voice is so unique and he can sing AND rap so... major points there

Wooyoung (ATEEZ) - his artist of the month performance on studio choom??? i think that's reason enough to put him here. plus his movements are always so fluid and nice to watch like... i'm obsessed (not being biased here... or am i?)

Yeji (ITZY) - another artist of the month with solidddd movements! plus she does dance moves i don't even understand, and she does it with such ease?? talent <33

Chungha - do i need a reason for this actually?

Lee Chaeyeon - another very solid dancer with really good stage presence!! i think she does a good balance between gg/bg dances, like she's suitable for everything. also her performance with hwanwoong? memorable

Honorable mention: Hwanwoong (ONEUS), because 1. his performance with Chaeyeon, and 2. his dance moves and really sharp and his facial expressions are great <3

[TRANS] Samba and HYO’s Inspiration in Creating ‘Picture’ (3/3)

Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon aka HYO has officially made her comeback with her latest single ‘Picture’, released on August 22nd. It is her first comeback in about one year since her last solo project back in May 2022.

In this comeback, HYO offers a song with upbeat melodies and dance pop nuances. ‘Picture’ is also packed with a passionate rhythm that works even better because of Hyoyeon’s raspy vocal character.

HYO expresses that this comeback brings a new concept that freshens up and further diversifies her discography. So she worked on ‘Picture’ with a genre that she had never explored before. 

In her correspondence with CNNIndonesia.com, HYO explains the genre is closely related to the Moombahton touch of Samba music. The beat, she says, was something she often heard when she was active in dancesport.

“When I was active in dancesport, I really liked the Samba genre and I often choose genres like Moombahton when working on my DJ setlist,” HYO said to CNNIndonesia.com some time ago.

“From then I realized that I wanted to bring the Moombahton genre not just in my DJ setlists, and that’s how ‘Picture’ came to be,” she continued.

Besides that, HYO also has a recommendation for the best time to listen to ‘Picture’. She recommends that the song be listened to during the day while the sun is shining.

HYO considers that time to be best time to listen to ‘Picture’ because the upbeat melodies and touch of Moombahton can ignite excitement from sunrise to just before sunset.

“I know the perfect time to listen to ‘Picture’, which is when the sun is shining,” says HYO.

“There are songs that are nice to listen to before you go to sleep, or during a sunset, but for ‘Picture’, the best time is from when the sun rises to just before the sun sets,” she continued.

‘Picture’ becomes the latest solo single by the idol, whose full name is Kim Hyo-yeon. HYO has previously released a number of songs as part of her solo project.

These various solo activities are carried out in the midst of HYO’s busy schedule as well as a variety of music projects. She is active as a DJ under the name DJ HY(O, who also performed in Indonesia last May.

Hyoyeon also participated in the SM supergroup project, GOT the Beat, alongside BoA, Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon, Red Velvet’s Seulgi and Wendy, as well as aespa’s Karina and Winter.
