I like how Jensi tested the water with announcing he might be talentless to Sophie and her delinquent friends. As if Sophie isn’t half horse and a walking elf experiment, Dex’s entire family is a mess and a cultural nightmare to all elves, don’t get me started on Keefe’s family, Marella’s mom is slightly out of her mind, Tam and Linh don’t even have parents frfr cuz they’re judgemental af , and lastly Fitz and Biana have a terrorist brother.

I miss Sophie’s book 1 friendships with Dex, Marella, and Jensi

I just realized the main characters of KOTLC have to be, like, teen celebrities of a sort at Foxfire.

I’m rereading stellarlune rn and got to that one part where Jensi is like “hi, can I sit here? Is that okay? I feel like I just interrupted a ‘how to save the world this time’ conversation” and then Dex is like “yeah that’s exactly what we were talking about actually but you can sit here anyway!” So then Jensi just sits with them and they proceed to talk about troll treaties and caches and Marella’s pyrokinesis training like everything they’re saying is totally normal and he’s just sort of there.

And that gave me this weird sense that while it doesn’t get acknowledged a lot in the series because Sophie isn’t hyper-aware of the other teens (she has so much of her own drama to worry about ON TOP of having to be the hero every book) her friend group is, like, so weird and important.

Like, they’re just sitting at lunch at school, talking about Elvin politics and classified secrets that councilors erased from their brains and how Marella bribed an ancient pyrokinetic with an evil history into revealing one such secret. And meanwhile all the other kids are at lunch like “haha, so what’s up with you and him huh? Yeah lol. Oh yeah and that table over there, that’s where they talk about saving the world and a bunch of information that isn’t revealed to the public bc they only know it bc they’re going to use it to save us all and stop a war lol. They’re so weird haha. Anyway what was I saying?”

Just casually a whole lunchroom of lots of friend groups talking and everyone just casually accepts that there’s that one table in the corner where the famous kids talk about Elvin secrets and illegal or classified stuff and saving the universe. Like yeah ok that’s normal now.

i decided not to go with the official art (which like, duh yall can tell) and I did this for a couple of reasons the main one being that KOTLC has an obvious lack of diversity in both face shape, skin color, and just general character design. Dex is the only guy in the main cast with freckles (in canon) and Stina is the only one with beauty marks

I asked a bunch of my friends for Jensi hcs for this design and I did my best to add a bunch of them though I'm sure there's some I missed (sorry guys, love you)

Jensi is in his level two outfit cause well, this is in back in book 1

Also to feed the JenStina's (guys come up with a creative nickname their names sound goofy together)

Idk if this is unpopular or not cause I've seen people on both sides of the aisle but

I hope Jensi is talentless

For a couple reasons

It instills the fact that you don't need an ability because he can still help the Sophie and Co. Without one

Furthermore drives home Sophie's motivation to get people to understand just cause your talentless doesn't mean your useless or a disappointment

Him and Rex can bond together <3

Some sort of plot point with Keefe and his ability to make people manifest

yknow what i’ve decided that jensi is my favorite character bc like. he’s just a guy. he’s just there, living life while that random girl he befriended is out nearly dying all the time. he’s a normal elf and he’s chilling. i can appreciate that.

Tam and Linh's relationship is so beautiful. They had only each other since the very beginning, till they met with the Black Swan and even then, their bond is so much stronger than theirs with anyone else. Linh was the only one who was banished but Tam didn't want to live in a world without her by his side and joined her. Tam was said to be very protective of Linh during Exilium, never leaving her side. He only trusted Sophie when she risked herself for helping Linh. Tam was not ready to commit to the Black Swan but the moment Linh volunteered, Tam followed. Tam only joined the Neverseen when Gisela threatened Linh's safety. And when Linh heard the news, she didn't break down but fiercely believed that Tam can survive, that he'll make it out. And yet, the moment Sophie raised the possibility of Linh being able to telepathically communicate with Tam and hear his voice, Linh's eyes welled up with tears, full of hope. After being able to hear Linh telepathically, Tam cried in his room. He only talked with Rayni, because for a split second, when she asked him if he was doing okay, she sounded like Linh. They bicker and fight like any other pair of siblings but their love runs so deep. They're each other's first priority, always and forever more.

I honestly love Sophie and Jensi’s friendship. Even though their few interactions are very short, I still like to see Sophie interact with people that aren’t entirely involved in the Black Swan.
