Chamber of Reflection is about self-isolation, loneliness and reflection. I’m sure Simon himself has had moments where he questions why he even chose his life in the first place. A life where he can never have peace, always looking over his shoulder. Ghost seems to ice cold on the outside, but after all he’s been through, the man on the inside is considering if his job (or life even) is worth it.

I’m not entirely sure why this fits but I think it does, maybe on vibes? I don’t know, this song absolutely “summer-time shenanigans with your twin as you solve the mystery of your small town”. Also the line, “sorry, mama, there are times I get carried away” is very Dipper-esc.

Chuya is a second year, with a technique that is based off of a hyena spirit called the Kishi. She’s pretty much “fight first, ask questions later” and is pretty goofy and often not the brightest. Yet, she’s not to be taken lightly. She’s a powerful sorcerer in training, who does not like to be underestimated.

A/N: The beginning of this OC story will start a bit different compared to my other stories so if you didn't read the warning there will be a spoiler alert from the manga. Masterlist

The bus ride to the Sendai stadium was a long one coming all the way from Osaka where the MSBY stadium was located. So long that majority of the normally hyperactive players were knocked out in their seats. That included the everlasting ball of energy Bokuto.

Beside him was Hinata who was watching his old partner from Brazil on his tablet, while Atsumu was looking over his shoulder. The two bursting into laughter at the awkward commercial Kageyama appeared in didn’t even awake the slumbering man. Instead once the bus stopped at their destination was when he threw his sleeping gear off, startling his teammates. “Jeez, don’t you have another setting beside zero to a hundred twenty?”

Bokuto was too excited to get off the bus he didn’t even hear what the twin said. Hopping off the bus to grab his bag he walks his way through the entrance with the rest of the team only getting sidetracked alongside Hinata for just a moment smelling the food. However, when saw the crowd he started to peek his head around looking for a familiar face. Until his captain, Meian, pulled him away before the volleyball fans recognized him.

While he got dressed in his uniform he sent a text to the person he had been looking for. Hoping that she would be able to make it in time for the important match. “Who you texting Bokkun?” Atsumu questions from a few rows down where he was changing into his jersey. He had noticed the owl looking man was even more antsy than normal while he stared at his phone. “My girlfriend. She’s supposed to be here today.” He knew that realistically she was a busy person and the crowd they were attracting was probably enough to cause traffic, but since this was the first time she would be able to make it to a game since his debut he was overly anxious to see her face. Her work overlapped constantly with his games which he didn’t mind since she would make it up to him with a text and phone call to tell him how amazing he was. She would always watch on her tablet which he had appreciated, but it didn’t beat today when she would get to watch him in person like she used to in high school.

He always did amazing with her watching him from the stands never wanting to look bad in front of her. Bokuto always thought she was the complete opposite of him. She was the top of their class, she was calm, cool, and collected no matter the situation she was in. While he would get into his depressed moods often it was rare to see him look sullen in the middle of a game. He wanted to impress her and make her think he was good enough to be noticed by the girl. Although in the end it wasn’t wishful thinking like he had thought initially.

“Oh your girlfriend is finally coming? I was starting to think you were making her up.” Atsumu teases his teammate.

“She’s real! I even have a picture of her as my wallpaper.” Bokuto brags while showing him the picture of his pretty girlfriend. The picture was one of his favorites of the girl since she wasn’t even aware he was taking a snapshot of her. He had wanted to show her from his point of view what he saw every morning when he would wake up to find her cooking in the kitchen, saying how she read how important a hardy meal was for an athlete like him. She was looking up from the pancakes she was making to laugh at Bokuto’s antics once again when he caught the moment. He originally wanted to frame it for everyone to see in their shared home but he settled for a wallpaper when she said it was too embarrassing.

While Bokuto was originally showing Atsumu his other teammates grew curious as to what girl was crazy enough to deal with the energetic ace. Whistling in appreciation Atsumu says, “She’s a beauty alright. So...are you planning on settling down or do I have a chance?” Offended by the very thought, Bokuto holds his phone against his chest as if trying to hide the girl from the Miya twin. “Of course I am! That’s actually why I’m so nervous tonight.” Scratching the back of his neck in embarrassment. It was a rare sight to see the confident man bashful like this. Everyone was so used to seeing him bounce around like a puppy that they never thought they would get to see the day he would act this way.

Hinata was the only one that really knew Bokuto long enough to recognize this side of him. “Are you going to ask May to marry you?” He could tell that it was the same girl he had remembered seeing around during their summer camps. He had only been introduced once to her but even Hinata could admit she was beautiful. However, it was the looks they had exchanged back then that made it easy for him to recognize her. That smile mirrored the one she had saved exclusively for his mentor.

Hearing the carrot head knew her name, Atsumu was in disbelief that he was left out of the loop. “Wait, how do you know her?”

“We met in high school a few times while our teams would train together.” With a shrug Hinata leaves it at that before looking at the now blushing Bokuto. “Yeah. I’m planning on proposing to her tonight. That’s why I’ve been looking for her. We’ve been waiting for a while but it’s the perfect time now since she’s comfortable where she’s at and so am I. I wanted everything to be perfect for her.”

All his teammates were surprised hearing the mature answer from the airhead. Atsumu in particular had no idea who the man was. He almost admired him. In fact he had always believed he was too stupid to understand something like this. From the moment he first met him when they debuted together Atsumu always saw him as that same moody high school kid. When Bokuto declared that was far behind him and how he was the ace he just thought he was another volleyball idiot. Seeing him act so noble and mature was...weird.

While everyone was talking excitedly about the news Bokuto finally received a message from his girlfriend saying she was meeting with Akashi. Sighing in relief Bokuto went back to his normal hyper self for the rest of the time until they would line up for their match.

He wanted to get the attention on himself but it was almost impossible since the Black Jackals were the away team. However, it was Bokuto. Doing a couple flips was all it took to steal the show from everyone on the Adlers. In all honesty he wanted to get one woman’s attention and the rush he felt from the huge game and potential engagement egged him on. Even when his captain smacked him on the back of the head it was all worth the moment his eyes caught the familiar figure high in the stands.

Mayumi sat next to Udai Tenma waiting for Akashi to bring her food from the cart. She already knew Bokuto would continue looking for her until his yellow eyes found her own green orbs, so she left her friend to take her seat.

Ever since she saw him her first year in high school she had been infatuated with the now grown man. He was always so carefree and outgoing that someone like her who was the complete opposite of him, admired him from afar. She would secretly go to his games sitting further away from the crowd until he had officially invited her to go to his games their second year. She always knew he was talented despite her having no real training or experience in volleyball. Just watching him fly in the air and hit the ball at insane speeds and angles that defied physics was telling enough in itself.

When she learned the terminology and rules of the game from Bokuto she knew she would be hooked onto the sport. She knew how important it was so she did everything possible to be part of his world by learning the sport that was his whole world. Seeing him on the grand stage was no surprise to her, but it did warm her heart watching him in his own element.

Looking at him now with Hinata bothering Sakusa, who was trying to stretch his hyper flexible wrists, made her smile and shake her head. He was too pure. “You haven’t watched him in person for a while?” Tenma speaks up making small talk.

“Mhm, each time he would have a game I would have a performance or another PR event.”

“Makes sense. Speaking of which, when is your next recital?”

“Well actually I’m taking some time off. I got a couple of sponsor offers that I need to take care of. Which is amazing since I get to be home more for a while. I love dancing but I miss being home.” It was the truth, while she loved to dance and travel the world while doing so, it didn’t beat her nights in with Bokuto. Being able to wake up next to him and take care of him before he goes off to practice. Then when they get home having dinner ready for a night of cuddling and talking about their days. It was a simple life but it was one that made her far beyond happy. Almost as much as when she was able to perform for a full crowd.

The feeling of comfort and peacefulness was one that she wasn’t used to in her family home. Her parents only stayed together because of her and because of that always argued with one another. It was chaotic and tense in her home until they divorced finally when she was 17, so being able to make a home of her own with Bokuto was eye opening. She wanted that peaceful life forever. Despite her fears of marriage she knew that if anyone could break her prejudice it would be the man that was spiking the ball and wearing the number 12 jersey.

Soon enough the game began between the two talented teams. Hinata starting off the game strong she couldn’t help but cheer for the ball of sunshine that she remembered admiring her boyfriend. He was an amazing hitter that depended on his setter and now he was a grown man that was able to play all the way around effortlessly. She could see the amazement on Bokuto’s face when he got a nice up on Kageyama’s hard serve. They’ve all come a long way. Every single one of the familiar faces had gotten so much better since the last time she saw them play and it fascinated her.

Seeing Bokuto hype up the crowd and get them to cheer for him was everything he always wished for and more. By the look on his face he was in his element. Mayumi could see the gleam in his eyes from the stands. The game looked more fluid with the shorter man included. He added a whole another element to the team that made it flow faster than before. On top of being an efficient hitter added to the already bulky arsenal, he was an amazing defender that read plays better than anyone she’s ever seen not wearing a libero jersey. The biggest surprise came when he even set the ball to Atsumu after he took the first ball. She cheered so loud for that point she had startled the two men beside her by her outburst.

She normally didn’t get so deep into the game, but this game was too intense for her not to at least cheer. The younger man always inspired her to be better and in fact reminded her of Bokuto with the energy he projected out to his teammates.

Watching her boyfriend do his chest bump made her smile at how he was not afraid of making himself look weird or outrageous. All that mattered was the ball and getting it up so he was able to get another chance to hit. Although Miya ended up dumping the ball to the opposite court.

She could still remember their high school days when they both were too scared to approach the other. She was watching his games in secret while he would volunteer to stay after class to help her clean. The first time they spoke was the day after he had to leave early because him and his team were traveling to play a scrimmage match. He came up to her after class while she was packing her stuff, normally people would be surrounding her to invite her out but with her big recital coming up soon she was going to turn them down anyways.

“Hey Mayumi.” His familiar voice sent shivers down her spine and butterflies to infest her stomach. Turning to face his handsome face made her flustered but his piercing yellow eyes made the blood rush up her neck to her cheeks.

“Yes Bokuto?” She whispered out a reply making her wince in embarrassment at her shy demeanor.

What she didn’t notice, because of her own self destruction button threatening to detonate, was the normally outgoing ace rubbing the back of his neck nervously. He was trying not to embarrass himself and take into consideration his teammate’s advice. “Um...I just wanted to say I’m sorry for leaving yesterday. I really did just forget. I know you have a lot going on right now so I tried to help but I just left you alone.”

In all honesty she was surprised he was even talking to her, but hearing him apologizing for something so small made her see another side of him she never got to see since she never talked to him. He was bowing deeply in front of her to show his sincerity to her and it was nothing she would have expected from the clueless boy. “O-oh it’s fine Bokuto. We were almost done anyway. I really appreciate you doing that for me.” She bowed to him showing her appreciation for his caring nature. She never thought he would even notice her let alone knew what she did outside of being their class representative.

“Oh! Well it’s not a problem since I’m the ace of the volleyball team of course!” Bokuto brags with his head held high and for a moment she could have swore he was glowing from the compliment. At the time though she had no idea what he was talking about. “What’s that?” She was genuinely interested in knowing. It seemed pretty important.

He was caught off guard but answered the taller girl’s question wanting to show off for a bit. “No matter what it takes I score for my team.”

Mayumi looked at him differently with the conviction he stated his duty as an ace. He looked untouchable and reliable. It made her think that he was further away from her grasp, but Bokuto was thinking about how much closer he was getting to the girl; ever the optimist.

After that day the two would interact with one another in small talk, or minuscules ways to get the other to notice them. From inviting each other to their own events or tournaments to classwork. It wasn’t until Akashi came around and got tired of seeing the ace always depressed, because a guy talked to her or even because she denied his invitations due to her practices or having plans already. It was another practice where Akashi walked in to see the owl looking boy under his designated table in another mood swing.

With a sigh Akashi asked his teammates who were getting ready for practice, “What’s wrong with him now? We didn’t even start practice.”

“The girl he likes was asked by one of the baseball guys to go to one of their games I guess. He’s depressed because that was the same day that we have our scrimmage against Nekoma.” Komi says followed by an eye roll at the antics of their captain. “Yeah he was mumbling something about wanting to impress her.” Konoha follows after while stretching his legs on the floor.

This was the first time that Akashi was hearing about his senior liking a girl. He always thought his brain was a volleyball, only capable of thinking of the sport. However, it seems that with this information now controlling his mood swings would be more difficult considering he’s never met her. “Who does he like?” Akashi asks his seniors who were also in the same class as Bokuto.

“Oh her name is Mayumi Saito. She’s our class representative and a ballerina. She’s probably the prettiest girl in our class. With the way he acts I don’t know how he expects her to like him.” Konoha speaks up once again with his normal blunt retorts aimed at the ace. “Yeah she’s like this super graceful and quiet girl that everyone likes. It’s no surprise that guy asked her out. Bokuto always invites her and she says yes. Can’t blame the guy for trying.” Saruki adds in.

“So did she say yes to this guy?”

“I don’t know. Bokuto just got all depressed and walked away. The dude that asked her out was the baseball team’s ace pitcher I guess. He just assumed she said yes.”

With a sigh Akashi walks over to their own moody ace still stuck under the table. “Hey Bokuto what if Saito comes to our game instead but you didn’t get your practice in for today? Don’t you want to be prepared?” He could see Bokuto perk up a little bit looking up. “I mean she always comes to our games right? What if it’s because she likes watching you play volleyball? You are our number one ace.”

“Of course she likes to watch me! Hey hey hey I’m the ace of this team!” Bokuto runs out onto the court already getting ready to warm up. They ended up having a good practice thankfully, just days before their scrimmage now Akashi had to find a way to talk to Mayumi so she’ll come to the match.

He asked around for the girl before class started and walked up to her at her desk. She really did look pretty and nodded in appreciation to his teammates' choice. “Hi are you Mayumi Saito?” When she looked up at him the normally reserved boy was surprised by her deep green eyes making him stop thinking for a moment. “Yes I am. You’re Bokuto’s teammate right?” Shaking herself out of his thoughts Akashi nods his head to proceed. “Yeah. Actually I just wanted to ask if you would be able to go to our game on Thursday. You see he really wanted you to go but he thought you were busy so he didn’t bother to ask you like he normally does? He always looks forward to seeing you.” When he admitted Bokuto’s feelings he could see her porcelain skin turn bright red. He had to hope that he didn’t just ruin his friend’s chances but was happy to hear her say, “I-I’ll go. I didn’t have plans. I was actually waiting for him to ask me again like he normally does. Thank you.”

By the time the scrimmage came along Akashi could tell that Bokuto was looking for a specific person in the crowd. When he saw the familiar brunette his hitting became more precise and in all honesty if he continued this way the rest of the season he would be considered one of the top three aces beside Sakusa and Ushijima. After that the setter would always make sure that Mayumi would be present for the matches but it wasn’t too much to ask since Bokuto had confessed his feelings for the girl that same year. Pulling him out of his mood swings was much easier than normal and less likely to occur.

Mayumi still remembers after the game he had run up to her to thank her for coming and when she said he was amazing the blush on his cheeks were evident. The outgoing loudmouth was bashful for once in life. When he asked to walk her home afterwards she happily agreed and it was the start of a new habit that brought the two together. She would talk to him about her ballet practices and her dreams of being a famous ballerina while Bokuto would talk about volleyball and his own dreams of being a worldwide ace.

Looking at him now she could see just how possible that was attainable it was for her lover. How he was able to get around the block and even when he messed up he was no longer the teenage boy she watched. She no longer had to be called by Akashi trying to pick his mood up, or strain her naturally soft voice trying to cheer for him over the crowd. He was a “normal” ace as he liked to call it.

Muyami giggled at the way his fans gave in to his antics with the “bokuto beam” chant and then egged him on after he twirled himself in the air with his back facing the net to get the point. He was a force to be reckoned with and she couldn’t be more proud. She could feel his former teammate and best friend next to her beam with pride as well watching him play.

They’ve all come a long way and watching this game full of familiar faces made her realize just how much. Especially seeing Hinata. She barely knew the man but she remembers how likeable he was and how hard he tried while in high school. Seeing him zip around for the game winning point she was convinced he would end the entire match, but instead Bokuto hit one of his signature line shots to end it all. Amazed by the spectacle that had everyone on the edge of their seats Mayumi jumped up cheering loudly as she used to for her ace. Akashi smiled at the scene admiring the way that Bokuto was able to look to where she was standing next to him and pointed at the girl with that huge smile.

Bokuto’s heart was racing, seeing the woman he had planned to propose to when she would make her way down to see him. His mind was rushing and was slightly panicked forgetting the speech he had planned for this moment. The teams shook hands and each had their last huddle for the night so they could go do fan service and see friends or family present. Bokuto’s mind was floating right now more than normal, but the coach was able to snap him out of it when he handed Bokuto the small black velvet box. “Go get her I think she’s waiting for you.” The coach winks at him with a grin on face. All his teammates cheered for him and slapped him on his back to encourage the taller man. Bokuto smiles at them all feeling bashful at the attention he was receiving regarding his love life, and turns around to see the love of his life standing off to the side with a huge adorable smile on her face.

Looking at her now wasn’t much different from six years ago. She was more slender and toned out her muscles from her training as a professional ballerina. Her black hair wasn’t as long as it was then instead it stopped in the middle of her back. She wore a black turtleneck with a long tan pea coat, dark washed jeans, a black beret, and black leather boots that went up to her knees. She looked as elegant as she was when they first met, like an angel.

He finally made his way to his girlfriend after signing some autographs and taking pictures with his fans. When he did his heart was beating out of his chest. Mayumi has known him long enough to notice that Bokuto was acting weird while he made his way over and questioned what was eating at the man. He had an amazing game and as far as she could tell he was excited to see her come today.

Bokuto hugged her tightly, wanting to ease his nervousness. “I’m so happy you made it. You look so pretty too.” She melted into his arms with a smile and laid her head in his chest happily feeling content in his arms. They lived together yet moments like this were rare. “I wouldn’t miss your big game. You did amazing.”

Hearing it come from her mouth always made him happier than usual. Ever since they were back in high school he would look forward to this. It wasn’t like hearing it from others didn’t make him feel amazing, but with Mayumi it was so different. He pushed himself to be good enough for the worldwide star every time yet he knew that in her eyes he was the best. He knew that he wouldn’t regret his decision of taking the chance of kissing her after his game. In fact he was grateful she returned the kiss and his feelings. Now he was able to take the chance today.

“May I really love you and everyday with you always pushes me to be a man you can be proud of. You make me unbelievably happy and I want to be able to wake up every morning knowing you’re beside me. Forever.” Bokuto nervously got onto his knee and could see Mayumi had covered her mouth in shock with tears in her eyes. “Will you marry me?”

Around them everyone was excited to see the ace down on one knee. Fans were silently watching the pair waiting for her answer, the Black Jackals had been watching from the beginning waiting for the man to finally pop the question, and the Adlers were pleasantly surprised to see the eccentric player show his normal side as well. Akashi was off to the side smiling already knowing the answer. He was happy to see his friends finally taking this huge step after six years of waiting.

Mayumi on the other hand was trying to make sure her voice didn’t crack or soil her makeup, but this man had always been her weakness. She finally opened her mouth, “Y-yes. Yes, I’ll marry you.” The man jumped up in excitement grabbing her to spin her around. “Hey! Hey! Hey! She said yes!” Everyone watching cheered and clapped for the happy couple who were in their own little world. Bokuto kissed her passionately, happy hearing his lover would be his forever. While May had let tears fall from her eyes she was over the moon. She never thought someone like Bokuto would take an interest in herself and it all felt like a dream from how far they've come together. She still remembers the way he confessed to her back in high school. He kept fumbling with his words until his eyes met her own for what felt a century. She felt the same butterflies except stronger than six years ago when he leaned in to kiss her. It was a sweet kiss for their first time, compared to the one they shared right now but it sent the sparks flying the same way it did back then.

She pulled away to look at the man and saw his beautiful yellow eyes looking back at her full of the same love and devotion as always. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” He says while pulling her in for another kiss.

Who knew their next chapter in life would start in the same fashion it all began.

Bokuto, the cutie, who plans Valentine's day from beginning to end. Makes you breakfast in bed, careful not to burn the kitchen down and wake you up. Sitting with you and feeding you, eyes crinkled in a soft smile when you tell him you can feed yourself. He gives you the first gift while you're in bed, your eyes still tired from sleep and hair a little messy but to him you look absolutely amazing.

He takes you out for the day, all the places you mentioned or hinted to, snapping couple pictures with you all day and making sure you're laughing and smiling. During the evening, he takes you for a long drive away from the city where you can see the twinkling of the stars against the inky dark sky. He's packed a picnic in the boot, spreading blankets and pillows on the ground, setting up the small portable heater and pulling you between his legs so you stay warm. You end up sitting there for hours, your back to his warm chest as you eat dinner and enjoy his company.

His second gift to you, a small box wrapped a little messily but the bow on top makes up for it. It's something you've had your eye on for a while, saved in your favourites or tab left open on your phone, but he's seen you look at it. Seen the way your eyes light up and you smile, he wanted to see that smile again today... and keep you smiling forever until the end.
