The recurring jingle in Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery sounds like the first note of the Subway Surfers theme.

A Drawing Dedicated to my Favorite Seasons of South Park, Season 3. Season 3 will always hold a special place in my heart for a few reasons. 1. It features some of the show's earliest bangers, If Seasons 1 & 2 were the fuse, then Season 3 was the Bomb. Classic after Classic, Korn's Groovy Pirate Mystery, Chinpokemon, Tweek Vs. Craig, Rainforest Shmainforest, Succubus, the list goes on. 2. It was the last Season of the show to feature the Late Great Mary Kay Bergman who passed away in late 1999. Mary Kay Bergman is one of my favorite VAs, Mainly due to watching Movies like Zombie Island, Witch's Ghost, & Alien Invaders as a Kid. This Season as well as Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders were her swan song. May her and Issac Hayes Rest in Peace.

The different eras of South Park: this is a short essay I wrote about how different seasons of south park can feel like a completely different show it's not super detailed but I had fun writing it. WC:940 CW: transphobia
I've always felt like different seasons of south park have there own distinctive different vibes so because why not here's in my opinion on the different eras of South Park
Classic south park seasons one
through three. If there's one way to describe these seasons it's tame at least in comparison to what the show would later become. Things that stick out about these seasons would be chef being a prominent character as well as being the boy's mentor in so many episodes. Kenny dying in every episode and so many iconic lines including but not limited to,
“Oh my god they killed Kenny!”
“You bastards!’
“Screw you guys, I'm going home.”
“Sweet”
And many many more, another thing that I feel is such classic south park is the boys behavior in these seasons despite going on wacky misadventures the boys still act their age and that makes the show so much more funny.
I know calling the movie the ending of this era and also saying season three is the ending of this era is contradictory because season 3 still had 12 episodes air after the movie released however they have the same vibe as episode that aired before the movie for the most part so I'm counting them, I will say the episode S3E10 Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery has a noticeably darker sense of humor then the rest of the season however most Halloween episodes do tend to do that so it still counts as classic south park in my opinion even though it along with episodes 6 through 17 of season three are in this weird Gray area.
The golden era seasons
four through eight this is when south park was at its peak in my opinion, while classic south park has its charm and has so many episodes I love I believe the golden era took what was so good about classic south park and made it better they added so many classic characters during this time that are so weird to think about being added in so late into the series such as Timmy,Jimmy and even the goth kids. Another huge change happened to Cartman. I'm of course talking about the fact he went from a stupid spoiled kid to someone that would murder your parents and feed them to you over sixteen dollars and twelve cents.
And now into the reason for my major bias for these seasons Timmy I think Timmy was one of the best additions to south park he is such a fun character and he adds so much to the series that I love so much, make an episode focusing on Timmy and it will instantly becomes one of my favorite and this era had so many great Timmy episodes (S4E3 Timmy 2000,S4E13 Helen Keller! The Musical and so many more), another reason Timmy is such a great character is the fact if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have Jimmy.
The show also wasn't afraid to take risk during this time killing off Kenny for real (or it least for almost 2 seasons),
This led to the show introducing butters or rather taking him from a one note background character to everyone's favorite silly little guy. It's so weird to think about South park without butters in it since he would become such a prominent character after season 5.
As we reach the end of this era there starts to be a decline in quality resulting in episode that I personally can't stand such as (S8E2 ∙ Up the Down Steroid, and S8E4 You Got F'd in the A).
And now we reach the era defined by one “joke” that I can't express enough how much I hate I am of course talking about the transphobia era season 9 episode one to season 12 episode 5 if you are somehow reading this and don't know what I'm talking about in the season 9 premiere
Mr. Garrison's Fancy New Vagina, exactly what you think happens Garrison gets gender reassignment surgery and how do Matt and Trey tray portray this (not that I would expect them to do it in a respectful way in the first place). But these episodes focusing on Garrison can be summed up in one way: trans fem character is trans fem isn't that just hilarious (Matt and trey seem to think so at least).
that isn't to say all episodes in these seasons are bad there are actually some really good episodes that came out at in this era that I love S9E9
Marjorine,S9E12 Trapped in the Closet are just two examples.
Next we have what I would personally consider a south park Renaissance era of sorts while I 100% can understand why someone wouldn't like these seasons I however I love them if it isn't completely obvious from my blog I love the goth kid episode and this era includes the introduction of one of the most underrated minor characters in the series Vampir but that's besides the point. Episodes like
S12E14 The Ungroundable or S13E1
The Ring are hilarious.
As much I love these seasons unfortunately all good things must come to an end in this case the end came with something I don't think anyone would have expected south park to do have continuity between episode and that big change marked the most recent south park era seasons eighteen to season twenty-six (as of writing this). Modern South Park And confession time I haven't watched all of these episodes. I find a lot of episodes in this era boring so I tend to just stick to pre continuity episodes.
AN: I had a lot of fun writing this!

South Park Filler Guide - Season 3
Link for Season 1 Link for Season 2
I find the existence of filler guides quite amusing, since for some shows it makes sense (like Naruto), but for others (like Pokemon) it absolutely doesn't and they still exist. So here is an attempt to do an absolutely unnecessary one just for fun. 😅
The classifications are CANON (an episode with major storylines present), LORE (in which we get significant backstory or world building, but could be skippable)  and FILLER (completely skippable episodic storytelling, not connected to overarching story arcs)
PLS my analysis will have spoilers, if you're a first time viewer, just scroll to the bottom and read the list and only read full text if you are familiar with the content of the show already!
S3E1 Rainforest Shmainforest is LORE
Tumblr media
It's a great episode for developing the characters to be written more consistent, which will be a general trend in this season compared to the last one, however Kelly disappearing after this episode really doesn't help this one cement itself in the long run, however Craig's small scene and character introduction gives some context why Eric considers him the baddest boy in school a few episodes later, but that isn't needed.
S3E2 Spontaneous Combustion is FILLER
Tumblr media
Randy's early spotlight episode, it's fun and great, again, but nothing carries over from this one.
S3E3 The Succubus is FILLER
Tumblr media
So Eric now has Kenny's eyes? Anyway, that conflict wasn't introduced until now, and any other conflict introduced here gets an instant resolution.
S3E4 Jakovasaurs is FILLER
Tumblr media
It's a fine spotlight episode for Mayor McDaniels and a largely unimpressive episode for a lot of other reasons, that doesn't ever influence anything.
S3E5 Tweek vs. Craig is CANON
Tumblr media
Of course this one is canon! We learn more about how Kenny is aware of his deaths, fan-favorite ship Richard Adler and Pam Brady is introduced and Eric Cartman learns sumo from a grand master which all will be important later! And also some background kids get into a conflict or something.
South Park the Movie 1: Bigger, Longer and Uncut is CANON
Tumblr media
And not only is it canon, I hereby present you it in its true placement for anyone who didn't know when to watch it. Stan character development and romance with Saddam, more on Kenny and death, Sheila starts M.A.C., overall big events that will be influental to a lot of later episodes.
S3E6 Sexual Harrassment Panda is FILLER
Tumblr media
Matt and Trey have no memory of making this episode. Neither do we have any memory of it minutes after watching it.
S3E7 Cat Orgy is CANON
Tumblr media
Because of course, the Meteor Shower arc is a big thing, Shelley's boyfriend Skyler will go on to form a band called Lords of the Underworld. This one also explains where Shelley and Eric were while...
S3E8 Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub is CANON
Tumblr media
Stan had to befriend Butters. Also we learn of Dougie and that he is on friendly term with Butters. Pip is also here, but that one hardly helps this episode to count as canon, so I just won't mention it. Look, Kyle returns! We just need an explanation from where
S3E9 Jewbilee is CANON
Tumblr media
he was. Also Kenny was there with him it seems. This one's super canon because of Moses of course. That's enough. And it also pairs up with Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub. TBH I could easily say these two are canon and Cat Orgy is but lore, but it's intended to be a trilogy and I respect that.
S3E10 Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery is FILLER
Tumblr media
It's a strange episode with a Chewbacca ending. Kyle's grandma's body is here, but nothing else is consequential.
S3E11 Chinpokomon is LORE
Tumblr media
While the plot of the episode itself doesn't leave much of an impact, the Chinpokomon franchise still exists within South Park. S3E12 Hooked on Monkey Fonics is FILLER
Tumblr media
The Cotswolds' never reappear. Mark does in background roles. Butters gets a kiss that later gets retconned. I looove this episode, but this is a filler. S3E13 Starvin' Marvin in Space is FILLER
Tumblr media
This is a sequel to one earlier episode and nothing else. (It's a good time though) S3E14 The Red Badge of Gayness is FILLER
Tumblr media
The boys learn that the north won and slavery is now illegal. They have a bet which is also moot by the end. S3E15 Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classic is FILLER
Tumblr media
It doesn't seem fair to classify this one, since it's more of a company EP than an episode by design. S3E16 Are You There God? It's me Jesus is CANON
Tumblr media
God appears in this one. We learn more on his relationship with Jesus. S3E17 World Wide Recorder Concert is LORE
Tumblr media
Herbert's relationship with his father add to understanding his character.
SPOILER-FREE RUNDOWN
Again, CANON means you should watch it, FILLER means you can skip it, LORE is somewhere in-between, any episode with the LORE label will have an explanation that helps you decide if you should include it or not.
S3E1 Rainforest Shmainforest is LORE* S3E2 Spontaneous Combustion is FILLER S3E3 The Succubus is FILLER S3E4 Jakovasaurs is FILLER S3E5 Tweek vs. Craig is CANON South Park MOV 1: Bigger, Longer and Uncut is CANON S3E6 Sexual Harrassment Panda is FILLER S3E7 Cat Orgy is CANON S3E8 Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub is CANON S3E9 Jewbilee is CANON S3E10 Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery is FILLER S3E11 Chinpokomon is LORE** S3E12 Hooked on Monkey Fonics is FILLER S3E13 Starvin' Marvin in Space is FILLER S3E14 The Red Badge of Gayness is FILLER S3E15 Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classic is FILLER S3E16 Are You There God? It's me Jesus is CANON S3E17 World Wide Recorder Concert is LORE*** *If you want to see a scene of Craig Tucker to understand his status **If you want to know what Chinpokomon is, but it's pretty obviously a Pokemon parody every time it appears. ***If you want to know Herbert Garrison's complicated childhood traumas. CANON counter:
S1: 9 out of 13 S2: 3 out of 18 S3: 6 out of 17 Overall: 18 out of 48

South Park WOWOW Japanese dub
I remember someone asking years ago if there was a place to watch the Japanese dub of SP, so here's a masterpost of all the episodes I've found so far. Links go to NicoNico Douga, the quality isn't the best but this is the only place I've found them.
SP has three Japanese dubs, from what I can see: the WOWOW dub (seasons 1 - 7), the Fox Japan dub (season 8), and the Netflix dub (seasons 15 - 23). If I find any more, I'll update the post!

It's a yes and no for Kyle. The List (Abe Lincoln), Bass to Mouth (Frog King, Sparrow Prince, and Catatafish), Death (Stan's great-great-grandpa and Kenny), and Dead Celebrities (Michael Jackson possessing and then leaving Ike's body at the pageant even though like with Death, we don't see Kyle's reaction to the latter, and he was much more concerned with getting Ike back in Dead Celebrities) all prove the "no" part where he's shocked at first but ultimately unafraid when in the prescence of a ghost. But the times he's appeared to be genuinely afraid of them are in Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery, Reverse Cowgirl when the lawyer informs the boys they'll need to perform a sueance and when Betsy Donovan's ghost apparates in court, Dead Celebrities when Michael Jackson's extreme denial sets off the hospital machines, and in Hell in Earth 2006 when trying to and successfully summoning Biggie Smalls.
And if you count using Kyle as an ally in SoT (while in Mr. Slave's ass, but I also like to headcanon that Kyle or whoever you chose for that mission is well-acquainted with the spirits because of Bass to Mouth) and FBW (being around Mysterion's ghost as a fellow ally, also because I like to think it's because it's the ghost of his own friend), he, as well as the others of course, are largely unaffected/unafraid.

I SWEAR- the exact moment that Cartman started snapping and being genuinely hateful at Kyle was the very last episode of season 4 and beginning season 5 and I keep telling my brother (who really doesn't care) that before then, Kyle was just being unnecessarily hostile to Cartman and noticing things about him that "bothered him" and it's like, why are you hyperfixating on that?? (Especially the comments about cartman's big fat ass, like, why are you looking there anyway Kyle, why does it matter so much that you feel the need to point it out 🤨) Meanwhile Cartman was just a little obnoxious in his mannerisms and behavior, but overall not an inherently bad person, just an annoying kid, which last I checked, isn't a crime. Most of the hateful things he did prior were just cause of Liane or things taken out of context by the people around him. For the most part he was oblivious to the connotations with, say for example, the costume Liane made for him during Halloween. He just saw it as a 'costume' his mom made for him. He didn't choose it, it was MADE by Liane and GIVEN to him, which is why I don't count it as genuine hate.
Also, the fact that anyone thinks Kyle is good and always has been is so funny to me cause he was anything but. He was so cruel to Cartman in the first few seasons. I know they all were but not as much as kyle.
Back to the actual post, it reminds me of a scene I keep thinking about in s3e12 "Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery" when Korn and the boys decide to split up into two groups they have, "everyone who enjoys having obstacles in their life which they can overcome go this way" *pointing to his left* "and everyone who's insecurities sabotage their potential to overcome those obstacles go that way" *points to his right* Stan, Kyle walk over to the left while Eric and Kenny walk over to the right.
I think about that a lot more than is probably normal because it just outright states Kyle loves a challenge, (Cartman does too but I digress) and to me it explains why he's so passionate about Eric, because he sees Eric as the greatest obstacle in his life. (Of course this isn't really new information but bare with me)
In the past, Eric was just minding his own business while Kyle bitched at him, but when Cartman started biting back and actually initiating conflicts with him, that's when Kyle's character naturally starts to change, all in order to properly take on the new challenge in his life; eric cartman.
He didn't change (completely) out of the goodness of his heart, he changed because he loves being challenged and thanks to said love, he naturally gravitated and adapted to eric's new "approach"?? to their dynamic, (whether he'll ever openly admit to it is another story) it's a matter of pride and excitement for him. He likes the feeling of being right, he likes the satisfaction that comes with winning, he likes feeling superior to someone else especially if he feels that they are beneath him (which he often does thanks to his subtle black and white way of thinking), he likes the rush of adrenaline, and he likes stroking his own ego but he hides all of it under the mask of altruism because at least then it makes his obsession with Cartman understandable and like it's for a just and noble cause rather than the selfish truth that he's just absolutely obsessed with him and how he thrives and preens at the prospect of proving eric wrong.
Eric is there to push him in all the right (though everyone else would say otherwise) ways. Nothing inspires Kyle more than when he has a metaphorical puzzle to solve or something to prove, and it just so happens that Eric gives him a way to prove himself every day.
I personally think that's what makes Eric and Kyle's relationship so interesting, because Kyle wants people to think he's a selfless/good person and I think he's actually deluded himself into believing he wholeheartedly is because it allows him to avoid reflecting on why he can't ever seem to back down from even the smallest of conflicts, or at least, the ones involving eric. Eric on the other hand has taken a bit of Kyle's spirit for confrontation back at Kyle, which I believe might've initially been his small way of saying 'fuck you too' to Kyle for all the unnecessary teasing and bullying in the episodes/seasons prior but has now just devolved into this weird and unique relationship they have with each other. However unlike Kyle, cartman's obsession with causing a scene seems to come more from a place of attention seeking. While he also loves a challenge, he just isn't as adept as kyle at dealing with them since he is his own worst enemy. Cartman wants attention, and he knows the best way to get it is to stir some shit.
No one gives him more attention in his life then Kyle and he knows this. Why do you think he's always actively trying to piss him off and get under his skin? Why does everything always come back to Kyle and hardly ever anyone else? He doesn't care if he destroys himself in the process either, because as long as Kyle's full attention is on him and he gets to engage with him and share any small moment of human interaction with him (regardless of if it's healthy or productive) then he still thinks it's worth it and normal/valid to seek out.
Kyle needs to feel challenged/threatened directly or indirectly by Eric in order for him to engage with him for longer periods of time with his full attention due to the way their dynamic is set in place. The boxes they cornered themselves into when they started this mess makes the expectations of their relationship that of constant fighting without end. Anything outside that would be immediately noticed by themselves or the people around them. They would never actively seek each other's attention under normal circumstances because that would be 'weird' and out of character for them, though this doesn't necessarily mean they don't want to, they're still friends at the end of the day.
Thanks to this eric seems to love challenging him. A challenge means guaranteed attention from kyle and to eric that's exciting and quite possibly everything he could ever ask for. I think it adds to the rush they get from each other, with their need to one up each other as a way to feel/look normal about interacting with and being close to each other without it being 'strange' or 'gay'.
Attention is eric's main goal and a challenge is just the super nice bonus he gets from it, as for Kyle it's mostly the other way around. (honestly though bickering can be really fun though, maybe they're both just tsunderes or something and I'm just looking too deep into it lmao)
It's funny because, it could have been anyone. If anyone else challenged Kyle or if anyone else had started giving Eric attention first, things could have been very different but because it's THEM TOGETHER- Kyle with his obsession over Cartman and with craving a challenge, and Cartman with his craving for attention, most importantly Kyle's attention because let's be real that boy has an obsessive crush on him, they just WORK??
They fulfill each other's needs whether they like it or not. Cartman fuels Kyle's ego and gives him excitement and something to look forward to "fixing or solving" or feeling morally superior for, while in return Cartman gets the attention he so desperately craves and lacks, (mostly as a result of his home life and loneliness, which ties back to his insecurities) and because of this, no matter how many fights or people telling them to just "ignore" each other, thats NEVER going to happen. They're always going to come back to each other so long as they stay stuck in their ways. They're codependent on each other, they fundamentally NEED each other. I don't even just mean this in a gay 'oh I ship kyman' way, (that just adds spice to everything nice) but just in general. They NEED each other and they themselves know this deep down. They would feel empty, like something is constantly missing because the reality is there's no way they can function without each other, it's just not an option anymore (if it ever even was). Why do you think they keep saving each other despite constantly stating that the world would be a better place if the other dropped dead? We know this is true from cartman's little rescue mission and how everything literally WASN'T the same without Kyle there. He tried to replace Kyle but it was immediately apparent that butters wasn't Kyle and that no one else, especially in South Park, would ever BE kyle. Kyle himself has changed Cartman in the way that now that he's had a taste of everything Kyle can dish out, he can't go back to anything less.
That fire is non-replaceable; there's no other thing in the world that burns him like Kyle does and the feeling seems to be mutual.
They would never admit it even if they were held at gunpoint, that's too much pride at stake. If they were to be truly honest with each other, then their relationship might change. They would lose the steady control over the one thing they feel secure in, their 'thing'.
Being honest with each other means being vulnerable, but they can't do that with the relationship they currently have because that gives the other party access to fuel for another fight or scheme or whatever. They can't be honest with each other until they know for absolute certain that the other party will also be 100% honest and vulnerable as well, that is unless they take a huge risk, but that's probably never gonna happen given the amount of times they have both lied or taken advantage of each other's "weakness".
They'll both suspect foul play from the other and either close themselves off or attack first, regardless of if there actually is any, because they can't fully trust each other. If they did, then that would make the whole point of their dynamic, their little "game" they like to play, useless. It would no longer be a challenge, it would no longer be fun. Suddenly it's not an engaging and elaborate game of cat and mouse, it's instead a scary game of vulnerability and insecurity. Even if they wanted things to change, they can't, (at least, not with the way things currently are) and that's ok with them. Because at least to them it's normal, routine, expected and they on some level, like what they have. If that were to change then they wouldn't know how to act because it's not what they're used to. They'd no longer be playing an entertaining game, meaning they can no longer hide behind said game as an excuse or shield for their behavior or actual feelings. Any genuine honesty would make things, and by extension their relationship, unknown territory.
Why risk losing the thing that gives them a reason to wake up every morning (even if it IS just to keep each other in line) when they can instead keep the status quo and never worry about losing sight of each other and everything they have.
They're comfortable where they are. It's why they can't ignore each other, it's why they keep coming back to each other, it's why besting each other is more important than what they're fighting about, it's why they come back and act like it's all normal and it's why they ignore anyone that gives them advice on how to end the cycle because the truth is they don't want it to end. If this 'thing' they had suddenly stopped, then they'd have to face no one but themselves. They'd have to face the fact that they have certain needs that have been fulfilled by each other for as long as they can remember and that without each other, they would need to either find a picture perfect replacement or live without their fundamental wants and needs met.
Unfortunately, they're both one of a kind and no one else will ever be the same. Not butters, not Stan, or Kenny, etc. No one can do 'them' better than they can. It only raises the stakes when you realize all they have to lose if they somehow truly mess it up
PHEW- I've been wanting to get that off my chest for a FAT while
honestly i think kyle always had a crush on cartman
