What had happened last night was something that could have been avoided.

This was the feeling that was currently being felt by three judgement members as they walked through the hallways of a certain hospital in district 7.  To understand how this feeling came about, we must go back in time a bit.

Last night there was a large scale operation between the joint forces of Anti-Skill and Judgement, all of which was  arranged by the higher ups in order to tackle the threats that were plauging the city, both known and unknown.

They had plans on taking down MINUS, since they had made a return and were planning on opposing Academy City and disrupting the peace further, and it was then that Anti-Skill and Judgement acted. They acted swiftly and fiercely.

However while the operation was successful, with Many members of MINUS being taken in, it was hardly a flawless victory. A member of Judgement, one Endo Hanshiro had perished on the line of duty. While he wasn’t particularly liked by some of his fellow Judgement members, especially Shirai Kuroko, his death was something that neither of them would have wished upon him.

As a result, the victory for both Judgement and Anti-Skill had felt very hollow for both organizations. After all, how could they claim victory when one of their own had to die needlessly.

Such questions had filled the air while the next steps were being taken. MINUS was not defeated, as many others had escaped during the conflict, and the manhunt was on for them, however, Shirai, Konori Mii, and Uiharu Kazari were not going to be taking part in that today.

Instead, they were going to investigate one of the more mysterious, yet well known incidents in Academy City.

The 1223 Incident.

It was an incident that many came to know as the day the world had almost ended. While the general public had not been given the specifics, it was evident that some sort of battle had taken place with Anti-Skill and a certain woman being involved, resulting in injuries or worse, but there was of course more to that story.

Shirai was the only one out of the Judgement trio who knew what happened that day, as she had been part of the conflict, (though contributed very little), and that her beloved onee-sama was completely beaten and held hostage. There were going to be feelings that were to come to mind however,, she felt there needed to be investigation.

Because even though the incident was well over a month ago, it still resounded in their minds. And it had all started when a certain woman had disappeared for an entire week. There had to be investigation into the matter, as so to prevent another 1223 Incident from happening again.

Right now, Anti-Skill and Judgement were taking another look at the area where it had all occured, and found something...unusual.  That was why they were there, so they could find out more about what they found, and what better way to do that then to contact the one who was at the centre of the aforementioned incident.

After getting the room number from the nurses, the three Judgement members headed over to where they had been directed, reaching said place and announcing their presence with a “Please excuse us” before entering.

Well while this is becoming a thing, have this piece of ‘What the fuck have I done’ in Kinoverse.

So you might know the Kami-Yan disease. That thing where Kamijou Touma is surrounded by girls who like him despite the fact he's still some sort of single pringle. Well, thanks to conversation with a good friendo, it seems there is now a rival to that. Bowen, being the walking DINGUS that he is, might well end up with a similar effect as well. To be aptly named the 'Bowie-Yan' Disease (If this takes off), his line of girls does in fact include some who also like Kamijou as well. And yes, this while he still has his girlfriend, Rosalia Edichimont. You know he'll always stick by her. (He's gonna marry her someday you know.) But the apparent list of people who it's suggested may end up with Bowie-Yan Disease.

Shokuhou Misaki (Why yes we may just see the Queen Bee affected by both Kami-Yan and Bowie-Yan. Fun.)

Misaka Misuzu (YES. I AM NOT JOKING, IMAGINE MISAKA'S MOM BEING AFFECTED BY THIS. Bonus points if Touma’s mom does too uhuhuhu.)

Orsola Aquinas (Yep. A nun. A nun. How fun?)

Yomikawa Aiho (Yes, PE teacher. Teachers, yo.)

Boy this got long quick. This is pretty much a W I P though. I dunno if all the above characters might be seen or interacted with, this is just the scope of how bad it might likely get for Bowen. Some like Misaki would definitely be fun to experience, but we shall just have to seeee...

And yes, this list may be updated from time to time. Oh. Boy.

In the filler type episode where the group is asked to play swim suit models for the day. I think it’s like 1x12 or 1x13?

Misaka is looking at a frilly polka dot bikini in the dressing room the way she normally looks at cute things she knows other people would tease her about or call childish. Saten and Uiharu share a look behind her and then approach her, talking very carefully about the swim suit. Saying nice things about the design, complimenting Misaka for choosing it, encouraging her to go try it on because it’d suit her.

Misaka is almost ready to head off to the changing room having finally been made to feel comfortable, when Konori joins the conversation and calls the style of the swimsuit childish (not in a mean way, just as an observation) which makes Misaka clam up again and grab a different outfit.

Saten and Uiharu are left sighing over the turn of events, while Konori watches on looking confused and vaguely apologetic.

Saten and Uiharu are such good friends trying to make Misaka feel comfortable about the fact that she likes cutesy things and fashions that others (including their past selves) have scoffed at and called childish.

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T – 17 – Miyama-ty Report

This episode considerably scales back the complexity of last week’s outing and focuses on the precognitive abilities of Miyama Shaei, and their role in transforming Kuroko into even more capable and efficient Judgment Officer.

He starts by predicting a girl falling into the water—Chisa, whom I believe injected an ampule of fertilizer into a tree last week. Where before Kuroko would not have learned of her predicament until after it happened and it was reported, thanks to Miyama’s prediction she can rescue Chisa seconds after she falls in.

One after the other, Miyama predicts mishaps and Kuroko is able to teleport in the nick of time to save the would-be victims. Be it a girlfriend with a knife, a falling sign, or bullies, Kuroko is on the scene and Getting Shit Done.

Like the previous arc where she lost her memories, it’s never not great to see Kuroko operating in fully bad-ass non-comic relief mode. Mikoto and Saten don’t even appear this week, but I didn’t miss them because Kuroko can carry an episode any time she wants.

With the combined help of Miyama’s ability and Uiharu’s handy hacker skillz, a pattern of incidents are predicted in a public park, and the imagery points to a raging fire, so the girls recruit their superior Konori Mii and other members of Judgment to lock the park down and prepare for anything.

Since Kuroko has been at the center of so many incidents with happy endings, the other Judgment members don’t bristle at the odd request. However, Miyama eventually reaches his physical limit and has to be hospitalized with blood cell damage from ability overuse.

While there, he dreams of how he was ostracized at school by popular girls lke Okawachi Megumi for having such a “creepy” ability. She changes her tune when he predicts she’ll fall victim to a mishap, and promises her he’ll try to prevent it. Of course, since this was well before he met Kuroko—the only person who can change the fates he sees—Okawachi is badly injured and curses the day she met him.

When he predicts the first and earliest of the incidents to occur in the park, it involves a stray dog with whom he is close, and starts to wonder if Okawachi is right—if bad things happen to people who know him like her and Perro—as a result of his ability, a chicken-and-egg dilemma that would be stressful for an adult, let alone a grade-schooler.

Night comes, and with them predicted raging fires, an extremely clever and complex sequence of events involving both the park’s vending machine (which may have a frayed power cable due to Mikoto having always zapped it) throwing a short that ignites dry leaves and grass and eventually causes Chisa’s ampules to violently detonate.

Of course, Kuroko, Uiharu, and Judgment don’t panic; they planned for this, and Kuroko is outfitted with both a HUD monocle and breathing tube for a sequence of quick teleports into and out of the fire, rescuing imperiled parkgoers each time. Again, I cannot underscore how much enjoyment I get out of Kuroko simply hunkering down and doing her job extremely well.

A panicked Miyama races to the park to try to rescue Perro on his own, but in his childishness (he is still just a kid after all) he wrongly assumed Judgment wouldn’t bother saving a random stray dog. Kuroko heads back into the inferno with Konori and her X-ray vision and eventually find the dog, a bit limpy but none the worse for wear. Miyama can’t help but blush and tear up, and Kuroko tells him its okay.

Later, we learn that Miyama has arranged for Okawachi to adopt Perro, and that she’s ready to apologize for how she treated him. In a chat with Kuroko, he worries his predictions will only involve those close to him, but she doubts that will be the case, since he’s like her: devoted to peace and justice for all.

She also believes that in time his power will grow to the point he can use it more often without risking his health. And when he does, she’ll be ready and willing to receive more intel so she can do some more rescuing. I love how Kuroko faces away from him to hide her blushing, no doubt a bit embarrassed she shares the same values as a little kid, while also casually mentioning a certain “champion of justice” she looks up to.

The big question last week was if and how the shared dream fad and Miyama’s mishap prediction plot would connect, and the answer comes in a very small detail at the very end: those ridiculously hazardous nutrient ampules that Chisa used? They were meant to allow the cherry blossoms to bloom year-round.

Chisa and her friends got idea to use the ampules…in a shared dream. With the additional brief mention of a “mass unconsciousness outbreak” this week, is it possible Chisa was unknowingly directed to plant explosives, or was it an innocent accident? Considering the potential for abuse of the shared dream system and the large number of troublemakers populating Academy City, I’m not ruling anything out.
