Hello! Idk if u do translations analysis anymore. But there’s this one line on chapter 473, “the one you most loved” I wonder if that’s what the demon really said or if it’s just like when kikyo died? Not the most, but the first? Thank you!

I’ve never seen this scene translated as anything other than “most”, but let’s look at the original Japanese text:

The second bubble says:

この世で一番愛していた女がー

kono yo de ichiban aishiteita hito ga

"The person you loved most in the world..."

The breakdown:

この世 (kono yo) - this world

で (de) - [particle] in

一番 (ichiban) - first place, #1; the best; the most

愛していた (aishiteita) - to love (notice 愛 (ai) in there), the -いた (ita) indicates past tense, so “loved”

女 (onna) - woman / ひと (hito) - person

が (ga) - [particle]

The part you were asking about is the 一番 (ichiban) which does somewhat mean “first”, but as in “first place”. Which is probably best describe as “best”.

We’ve discussed this scene a lot in the fandom, but to reiterate, Kao is a demon that feeds on sadness. This scene is happening right after Kikyo’s final and permanent death, and the nth time that Inuyasha failed to protect her from Naraku. Kao cannot feel Inuyasha’s love for Kagome at that moment because Kagome has only ever been a source of happiness for Inuyasha, not a source of pain like his love for Kikyo.

That is the whole point of this arc, Inuyasha did love Kikyo, but his love for Kagome always makes him choose to stay with her and live instead of succumbing to guilt and dying. Inuyasha already made the same choice before when Kikyo had him under a spell and was trying to drag him to hell, and again in the illusionary death arc. We know Kao is wrong in his assumption that Kikyo is the woman he loved most, because if she was, Inuyasha wouldn’t have hesitated to follow her in that peaceful vision Kao showed him. If he wanted to follow Kikyo, he could have ignored Kagome’s voice and make the choice to be in the afterlife with Kikyo anyway. But he didn’t, and the fact that he was able to wake up shocked Kao, who thought he had figured out what Inuyasha wanted.

In general, a lot of characters make assumptions about other characters in the series, based on their limited knowledge of that person. Sometimes, villains make statements intentionally trying to hurt the person they are targeting, like here. The only person who truly knows what Inuyasha is feeling is Inuyasha himself, and he explicitly said himself that he was born to be with Kagome.

OOC: Out of somewhat-paranoia after finding about what Qada did with the toxic mist, Kamiizumi decided to build up his own immunity to poison with Konoe Kikyo’s help. This led Kamiizumi to generally become immune to all common poisons.

Punting the start of this idea out so I can get back to work on other things

The Eternian Board of Girl Power meetings were supposed to be the one good thing she had. They were her own initiative, and she could talk and have fun with Artemia Venus and Kikyo Konoe, playing that they were all friends and not simply three lonely misfits. The meetings were for eating cookies and admiring Artemia's frosti charms. They weren't for seizures. She made sure of that; she tried to schedule meetings when she felt good enough to be pleasant to the other girls and outright canceled them if she had any suspicion an attack was coming.

But her 'good' days, which had never been all that good to start with, had been less often and less reliable lately. She was afraid she'd used them all up. And now...

"Kikyo, find Victor! Victoria, stay strong!"

"No...no!" Victoria protested, but Artemia squeezed her hand reassuring as the ranger's other hand pressed down on her shoulder, holding her in place during the seizure.

"Victoria is strong! Fight! Victor will come help."

Kikyo had already disappeared from her sight, and her spasms were getting worse--the seizure was intensifying. The fear pushed a scream from her mouth. "NO! Don't get Victor! Don't you dare! Please!"

Victoria couldn't see if Artemia understood, couldn't tell the girl's expression at all behind her garish, stupid wolf mask, and she kept pushing through the pain, trying to make the girl understand. She'd been getting worse for months--she knew it, Victor knew it--Victor was desperate--he'd been experimenting--vampirism--immortality, really? An eternity of pain?--just like his father--if he was that eager to make her life hell she'd kill him first--just like his father--she'd kill Artemia if she didn't listen--if she didn't...please...

Halfway through she could tell she was babbling, didn't know when her words had lost their string, her thoughts dropping and scattering like beads off a broken charm. She kept trying, trying, but her tongue was thick in her mouth and--

She woke up still in pain, but now it was the usual throb. The seizure was over. She was on something soft and comfortable and she closed her eyes, sickened by the tears she could already feel coming up.

They must have taken her back to Eternia. Victor knew and now he would never let her out of sight, he'd rush the weird research he'd been doing with that vampire's hair and try to use the results on her. What could she hope for? She knew too well how terribly occult magic and living bodies could combine. Her highest hope was for it to be absolutely useless and her worst fear was that she'd live in pain without end for eternity because Victor just couldn't let her die.

She heard a door crack open, and her worry turned into fury. She had to strike first. He couldn't do this, he couldn't, it was bad enough that Vincent had and she would never let Victor repeat his father's mistake--

"Oh, so you do live."

A bored observation in an unmistakably female voice. Definitely not Victor. Not Kikyo or Artemia, either, as this woman had a thin, high, almost reedy voice. Victoria opened her eyes to see... Mephilia Venus?

The woman tilted her head. "Artemia says you were quite insistent about not wanting Victor, so she brought you home." Indeed, the walls of the room were not the heavy stonework of one of the healing towers or Victor's lab. Instead, they were the natural brown of a wood cabin and decorated with maps and black-and-white photographs, all dusty and aged. "But that was incredibly dangerous. You seemed all too ready to pass through death's door. So I must ask: are you ready to get treatment now? Or are you planning to die?"

She presented the options so starkly and dispassionately that Victoria snarled, but she wasn't wrong. Victor was the only one capable of keeping her alive long-term. She had been lucky to not die this time...if she could call herself lucky. She could court death, or she could risk seeing what depths the younger Court might sink to in the face of failure.

The vampire's hair...eternity... "I think I made myself quite clear to Artemia," Victoria gritted out, though she still couldn't remember how much she'd managed to tell the ranger. Enough that the girl had taken her back to her home instead of to Victor, apparently. Enough. "I don't want to see him! I'd rather die!"

Mephilia sighed, putting a hand to her chin. "Einheria is not going to like this... but I'll respect your wishes. If you change your mind at any time, please, do tell us. I'll get you water and some food. Artemia is out hunting at the moment. Best you be ready for her return; I imagine she'll be loud when she learns you're awake. She was worried about you. Konoe, too."

"Oh...okay," Victoria squeaked. She hadn't been ready for the lack of arguing from the summoner. Nor had she been expecting her other words. Artemia and Kikyo both worried about her? That...huh. She was too worn out to think on that much further, slumping against the pillows. There were bigger things to worry about anyway. Victor, and the next few days. Death, and eternity.

Magnolia: I'd say it goes beyond just the unusual! Tiz: I thought she got so nervous in front of others that she could only talk like that when she was disguised as someone else, wasn't that right? Edea: Yeah, that's her: Konoe Kikyō. She's from Eternia, as well. I guess she's about, um, 24? She was part of the Black Blades covert forces, and she infiltrated the Shieldbearers to wreak havoc amongst them. Tiz: But I never realized that she and Heinkel were related! Edea: Not related by blood, but still... It is pretty shocking to hear! Yew: A member of the Black Blades... Holder of the ninja asterisk... Edea: I think I heard she's the last descendant of some kind of ninja army from the land of Wa. Yew: Amazing! So that's where she learned all those skills of disguise and deception... Tiz: Well, I'm not sure that is the true source of "her" skills. After all, the person we thought was Kikyō was actually Whitson in disguise, wasn't it? Yew: Oh! How could I have forgotten!?

Kikyō is the holder of the ninja asterisk and a former covert operative of the Eternian Forces.

When we met her, she had assumed a new identity as a private detective famed as "the silent sleuth" and was investigating the murder of Lord Gulliver at Starkfort. When Edea recommended that her nephew Sholmes join the force and do grunt police work, she flew into a rage and attacked us. It turns out though, that this Kikyō was in truth Whitson—Sholmes' erstwhile best friend turned criminal mastermind—in disguise.

OOC: I want Kikyo and Praline grabbing Kamiizumi one day and just dragging him along to some typical “spa day” thing. 

Kamiizumi worms his way out of doing the mud baths or facials, but he reluctantly agrees to getting a manicure and getting his hair done. Praline is ecstatic, and makes Kikyo do EVERYTHING with her. The poor Ninja is terrified, and unfortunately the Swordmaster can’t help her get out of it.

Kamiizumi finds the whole thing weird, but interesting, and he doesn’t entirely hate it. He likes that he can use the time to talk to both Kikyo and Praline, but feels weird that people put so much effort into their appearances by going to shops and services specifically geared for this. 

The next day when he’s teaching his pupils, he ends up taking his gloves off at some point during the training session because it was warm with his gloves on, and immediately the students ask about the manicure. The Swordmaster reluctantly recounts the whole event, and soon all the students are left giggling happily about the fact that Swordmaster Nobutsuna Kamiizumi, founding member of the Eternian Regime and had fought in countless wars, went on a spa day.

Kamiizumi is unsure whether he should feel flattered about it or embarrassed. He probably feels a mixture of both.
