Today's Focus
Today's Hana picture includes the original formation of her stable, Tokyo Cyber Squad. From left: Konami, Hana Kimura, & Jungle Kyona.
05.30.24 - Well it's very sunny which is important because it is Thursday therefore there are food trucks downtown for me to visit for lunch today. It is not going to be overly warm, and downtown is windy so I'm expecting the temp to actually be a little cooler than when I did this last week. I hope y'all like this shirt, because it's now burned into my brain as a source of frustration so the fashion better be worth it.
Work - I need to contact a court reporter for a lawyer whose secretary is out for a week, but that's the only thing I left behind for myself. I'll take care of whatever comes in as it comes in; I like being on top of things.
Background Noise - Well I'm in the office so the background noise is YT with a focus on like pop media reviews and discussions.
I did seven YT videos yesterday which is pretty good for a day when I'm home and doing DVR stuff.
Study - Thursday is book day so I'm going to try and read pages of the books I have open. Let's see how well I do; books have been hard for me recently.
Yesterday I did seven full hours of content off the DVR, including two hours worth of Jeopardy episodes. I also managed to watch a couple of biography videos and I read half a dozen different articles so it was productive.
Extras - It is Thursday so I have to make sure the garbage leaves the house and heads to the curb. All the bills are paid, and I'm back to cooking, but cooking is easy; I'm roasting a pork loin, steaming the veggies in the microwave, and the potato salad was pre-made. I am doing three episodes of Kamen Rider Build tonight; I did cover the movie, but had to shower last night so didn't get the extra episode. Because there's a special after ep 18, I'm trying to make sure I spread the hours out throughout the week evenly. One more episode of The Tick tonight as well. Mini-essay turned into a full one, which you can read here if you'd like, and I did write a little more of a movie review yesterday so I'm going to try and keep on with that.

Shattered Hero ~ Origins of the Ink Demon : Episode Maka Finale (8/11)
[Sky Fortress Zone Act 1 - Jun Senoue]
Seto : Alright, Solva. We're on the Falcon Flyer. Please look out on anything suspicious in the sky. It could be Zakat, Sky Dragon, Sky Garden or it can a humble abode of Uranus. Do you see anything in the sky?
Solva : (looking through Binoculars) No, not yet. Just a bunch random planes in the sky or it could be a bunch of seagulls flying through the clouds.
Seto : It's much more than that. We get see things on top of this thing. This looks way cool. Hope you're not afraid of heights, cause this is the view that I can feel the wind in my ears.
Disk-Chan (via Communicator) : Umm, Why does make you sound like that this is a good to be riding on top of Captain Falcon's spacecraft? Don't you that it's a little dangerous to enjoy a fun ride to be on top of the flyer? (Clears throat) Be on the lookout for anything coming in our way, it might be one of Eggman's forces.
Solva : So many things to see in the sky. That's the Sky Garden, and over there is the Beanstalk Park Area.
Seto : That area is the Sky Troops, it must've taken place during the Black Arms Invasion. It only remained floating after all of Eggman's battleships were destroyed in Black Doom's aerial fleet.
Solva : And there's Grape Garden and the Final Fortress area. Wow so much sightseeing in the sky! You gotta get a good look on anything in the sky.
Captain Falcon : (via speaker) As you can see on your right you'll see the famous Sky Canyon on Floating Angel Island where red echidna is taking smoke break.
Knuckles : Huh? Hey you kids! Get off of my property!
Seto : Yep. So much to see wonderful things in the blue sky. It's majestic as it looks. This spacecraft that Falcon' flying is really good for transport. This looks cool to be on top of this thing to feel amazing windy vibes through the reasonace. I don't know why the sky has became a battlefield since the Black Arms Invasion.
Solva : It look really amazing. It has been this way since the two incidents took place around 8 years ago. The sky changed when it comes to adventuring, I bet the Egg Carrier used it's wings to fly, but lost it when Sonic and Tails were on that ship to get it destroyed and BOOM! It crashed landed on the ocean floor! *Beeping*
Disk-Chan (via communicator) : Hang on, guys! I'm picking up detecting signals on the radar. It appears to some kind of...enemy intrusion!
Seto : Sounds like a deal we must go through. Alright, Solva. We got bad guys to take out.
[Get Edgy - Hideki Naganuma]
Solva : Don't worry, we got this! We got this all in style!
Seto : Time for us to take down these fly boys! (the two girls starts destroying the sky chase enemies) Now we're talking with style!
Solva : This is so much fun than flying on a biplane! The only transportation are spacecrafts and aircrafts! This is how battles take place in the sky! Can't get enough of this action!
Seto : When will soar our wings It's going to Get Edgy!
Solva : Totally groovin'!
Seto : Out of sight, out of bounds!
Solva : Extremely getting some sick attacks!
Seto : [To Solva] Hey, you wanna dance in the sky?
Solva : [To Seto] I Do. Now let's dance, baby.
[the girl performs a stylish combo move to attack the enemies]
Seto : Hahahaha! This is really stylish!
Solva : Bitchin'!
Seto : This is excellent!
Solva : Yahooo!!!
Seto : This is pretty fun! We'll never stop fighting through the sky and what's next for us in that someone wanted us to be taken down!
Solva : And to add that to the question, who's going shoot us down in the sky? Me, you, or that Helicopter that came out of nowhere that is going to shoot us down.
Seto : Yeah, I know, right?! And nothing that it will stand---*record scratch* Wait, did you say a helicopter that is going to shoot us down? (suddenly the helicopter fires mulitple missiles)
Captain Falcon : Holy crap! Hang on, guys! We got a Konami on our tail! (the Falcon Flyer evades the missiles before they explode each other)
[The Dusk Gathers - Sota Fujimori]
Seto : Is that one of G.U.N's military transport?
Disk-Chan (via communicator) : That's no transport for G.U.N...That's a transforming robot!
"MR. HELI-ROBO : THE HELICOPTER ROBOT"
Seto : So this is one of Konami's tricks again, I see.
Solva : No duh. It looks like we can make a bunch of scrap out of him. This is the machine that attempted to stop Bill Rizer on reaching to the Santucary on Jupiter. Looks like that it came for a challenge. Let's get ourselves into action on taking down this chopper!
Seto : Eye to eye! Let's use our combine strength to take this puppy down, we got eyes on the scrap heap. Falcon, take control of the ship and whatever you do, do not let it get destroyed!
Captain Falcon : 10-4! Copy that!
Solva : Watch out it's going to BBQ us with missiles underneath! Seto, use your fire breathing technique and disable the robots' eletrical units while I deflect the missiles!
Seto : Got it! (uses fire-breathing technique to disable the robot's electrical units while Solva deflects the missiles with her powers) Hope I'm able to fry this tin-can's circuits by heating things up! Let's see that it's units can't handle the heat!
Solva : Major bonus for that one!
*DBZ SFX : BOOM!*
Seto : Totally bitchin! Now that thing won't sent out it's missiles!
Solva : Hang on, it's going to attack on the front and back of this ship!
Seto : Guess it's going on shooting range by itself! (the helicopter converts into it's robot transformation and begins to shoot at the girls)
Solva : Let's jump and avoid! (the two jumps to avoid the robot's shots at a time) Watch out! It's going to use laser target! Captain, duck and cover!
Captain Falcon : On it! (moves ship to evade the laser blast) Nobody messes with my ship and his name is Captain Douglas J Falcon or my name isn't Bart Lemming!
Seto : That's two attack for ya and you're out of the game! (uses Gun to aim at the robot before shooting him) Hasta la vista, Contra!
*Shadow/Robot Chicken SFX : GUNSHOT!*
*DBZ SFX : Explosions*
Captain Falcon : Now's my chance! Falcon...PUNCH! (Destroys the robot with his B-Special Move) It's super effective!
Seto : Looks like he's out of the Sky Park.
Solva : Glad that we got him out of our way. Now we're almost at our reach to Meta Knight's ship. (uses Binoculars to view from here) Hey! I think we found it! There she blows! We found the Halberd! Captain Falcon, get us to the Ship immediately and prepare for landing!
Captain Falcon : I am Captain Falcon!
Seto : So then...Who's flying the Flyer, or the phrase would be Who's flying this thing? Like i said!
Captain Falcon : Oh that? I just put the Falcon Flyer on auto pilot! (we cut to show the maneuver being control, then cut back to the group)
Seto : Heh! For a racer and a Smasher, you sure know how to pilot things that are just getting some good timing. Alright, let's get into the Halberd!
"Later..."
[With You - Fumie Kumatani & Kenichi Tokoi]
Maka : There it is, stars of this planet. I can see millions of countless lights scattered across the cosmos and each of them fulfilled a person's light to enshrine love and hope. I destined that I make a wish to see this very little light of mine. If only I had friends to help me, I'm still an outcast and nothing to look after me. But after that, All of that courage showed the world, is absolutely bogus. I should never gotten this gift from Kirby. I might wound back at my home planet, shedding my own tears that even that I drown myself into despair, what does it mean to be alone with no one to help.
Soul Evans : Hey, nobody is alone and not even you.
Maka : Huh? Could that be...(turns and sees Soul dressed as a Military commander) Soul is that you?
Soul Evans : Hey, Maka. Long time no see.
Maka : Soul! It's been so long! I've missed you so much and...(music stops) Why are you dressed a german soldier?
Soul Evans : Oh, about our break up, I decided that I became a Military commander of an organization called Shattered Soul army.
Maka : Oh, that makes sense. So how did you or...what are you doing on Meta Knight's ship anyway?
Soul Evans : About happened during that incident, If anything happens to you in San Francisco, they'll pay. But that doesn't mean stopping you won't do anything good for a girl who has been outcast by many who accuses you.
Maka : So you'll prove to me that I'm innocent. And more for the record, you got some business coming around here. Why did you even dress up as an army leader? Or some kind of nazi.
Soul Evans : I believe it's not a costume, it's a uniform that I'm wearing.
Inky Jr : You never ceased to surprise me, Maka Albarn. Still alive and got back on your feet.
Maka : Inky Jr.
Inky Jr. : You haven't changed a bit, haven't you forgotten your "personal hygiene"? I lived more than that, the Three Evil Witches they call their selves the "Gorgon Sisters" had fooled the entire world using heartless set up by that Ansem fella. Criminal records show them wanted for making up their series of overrated crimes against humankind and witchkind. What a bunch of foolish women for trying to put the planet in jeopardy.
Soul Evans : So you're still around, I see. Your idiot mother framed the one that looks alike her, how can a 70-year old demon queen blames a 14-year old girl that was mistaken for a bunch of crimes that she did not commit!? That fooling around isn't funny and you had attack the American Public and for the sake of Tokyo!....Say it that were not Nevadans, we're just people trying to save our world from the likes of demons like you all the time!
Inky Jr : ...Wake up, you two. It's time for us to wake up into the real world. Soul Eater is only a name of a weapon, not name for your crazy-ass stories. You've been living in a fantasy world for way too long.
Soul Evans : Why you selfish...(Maka stops him)
Maka : No. If you think that we really wanted wake up from a Fantasy world that doesn't exist, then I suggest, Heroes and Villains of Soul Eater are nothing but a pain in my ass. I guess I can wake up to the real world and forget about Soul Eater.
Inky Jr : As a matter of fact, I kinda like that in a fashionable way. Defeating a God does not have to do with courage, that courage of yours was nothing more than a load of crap anyway.
Maka : Then I guess, the Maka Albarn that everyone knew doesn't even care anymore. Everybody just make me sick for protecting Shinra's legacy.
Inky Jr : There's more Maka than meets the eye, girlie. And oh, one more thing for me. This time for real I got something to defeat a God without the courage you were gifted.
Maka : Huh? *DBZ SFX : STRONG PUNCH* (painfully grunt+gags) ...What...What the hell was that for...?
Inky Jr : Consider that gift an apology for mother! *DBZ SFX : STRONG KICK X3+CRASH/HIT* If you ever dare show the world to use such crap like that, then I suggest that you should take the gifted courage back to Kirby, he's responsible for killing a god with that same courage crap over and over again! If you want to kill a God, then kill a God or a demonic entity yoursself...without the gifted courage! Destiny is your only guide to kill the forces of true evil. All you need is Valor to live up to the ways of being hero, that is why Shinra Kusakabe chosen his way to create the world you'd live in, but I doubt that the world is all nothing but a fantasy. He'll be happy to return to the real world by waking up. May the truth set you free. (walks away)
Maka Albarn : Why...does this...always happen to me?
"So I guess that I was wrong to show the world with courage."
"Destiny is my only guide towards freedom."
"All I need to defeat a God is Bravery."
"I will Never forgive anybody or anyone for deceiving me!"
"Especially for you, Shinra Kusakabe!"

When she mentioned everybody involved in the Lost Incident, is she also including Miyu, Jin, and Windy's kid?
As much as I want Miyu to be a duelist, I can't possibly see Konami adding her and Jin in Duel Links, where they suddenly became duelists.
And how are they going to add Windy's kid in there when the dub of VRAINS mentioned that he was literally killed in the car accident by Windy himself?!

For the ask meme: favorite obscure yugioh character?
oh man, how obscure are we talking?
I'm not normally the kind of person who gets particularly invested in minor characters; if you're not damaged and problematic I tend to look the other way. Like, I'd consider Windy from Vrains and Misty from 5Ds (who are some of my faves from those respective shows) to be relatively minor, but not obscure by any stretch. Though Windy was a funny case because I watched Vrains before Zexal and he basically ended up being diet Vector/foreshadowing that particular brainrot, but I digress.
But if you want obscure obscure, it'd have to be Jerry Beans Man.
Super minor character from GX, basically existed just to be a damsel in distress to show off how much Johan cares about duel spirits. I don't know why, but something about this little guy threw my brain into full "must protecc" mode, and the villain of the week threatening his life was probably the most emotionally invested I ever got in GX, lol. Just... his design is so stupid and adorable? Look at that lil face. Why is his name romanized "jerry beans" instead of the obviously intended "jelly bean"? I don't know, but it's precious. I'm still sad we never got a follow-up after that duel where he reunited with his human pal upon getting rescued, that would have been adorable. I love him. Give us more Jerry Beans Man, Konami.

So why not have Go and Aoi die writing in agony in the Tower of Hanoi incident? It would remove bad and unlikable characters from the story and make more room for relevant characters like Takeru and Miyu (and possibly free up enough space for Windy's origin).
Because business obligations to create new Trickstar cards, more Gouki, and Konami and TV Tokyo by that point had decided to create Dinowrestlers and had already chosen by TV Tokyo, Konami and their business partners.
And because fans of VRAINS that aren't you extremely liked Go and Aoi and were invested in their characters.
Takeru was introduced for Salamangreat and to give Yusaku a friend to talk to who wasn't Ai that Yusaku wouldn't close out from or go "Fuck off" or "Shut up".
Also, again, Miyu only exists because they realized they needed to address the Lost Children in year two, and couldn't push it onto Aoi without completely ass fucking her established time line that was laid down in the computer breakdown. Miyu exists as a bridge to correct that writing error. She's functionally replaceable by a jar of mayonnaise or a jewel encrusted dildo because she's a MacGuffin or Goal for Aoi who just happens to be a character.
And a huge point made by Mr. Yoshida, was that the Lost Incident, just because they were those touched by the incident, didn't make them magical or special. They were a bunch of brutally and horrifically traumatized and tortured children with nothing special other than they helped create a race of Hard AI.
And Windy's Origin was brutally murdered to drive this fact home that they were a perfectly normal kid who was murdered because the AI based on him went insane, and to drive home the Lost Incident was not a magical super sparkle event of chosen wonder destiny that made you Important.
That you're in a dark somber dystopian cyberpunk noir thriller about the futility of heroics in most circumstances, not a heroic fantasy.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1097200/Twelve_Minutes/
Skuwa Waszą żonę i wypytuje o jakiś zegarek.
19 sierpnia 2021 roku została wydana gra "Twelve Minutes". "Twelve Minutes" jest to rozgrywane w czasie rzeczywistym połączenie thrillera psychologicznego i klasycznej przygodówki point and click.
"Twelve Minutes" jest to thriller wykorzystujący motyw pętli czasowej, dobrze znany chociażby z filmu "Dzień świstaka" z Billem Murray'em i Andy MacDowell z 1993 roku.
Ponadto też możemy wchodzić w interakcję z naszą żoną i możemy odbyć z nią... szczerą rozmowę...
Naszemu protagoniście głosu użyczył James McAvoy (aktor znany chociażby z roli Billa "Jąkały" z nowej wersji ekranizacji horroru "To" na podstawie powieści Stephena Kinga), naszej żonie głosu użyczyła Daisy Ridley (aktorka głównie znana z roli Rey w najnowszej trylogii "Gwiezdnych Wojen"), a policjantowi głosu użyczył sam Willem Dafoe. Dobrą robotę w grze robi oprawa dźwiękowa i muzyka przygrywająca w tle.
Sam plakat gry stylistyką nawiązuje do starych filmów kryminalnych i dreszczowców z lat 50.
Ale trochę irytowała mnie mechanika dobrze znana z czasów "The Sims", kiedy kazaliśmy wejść naszej postaci w interakcję z NPC, to czasem musieliśmy łaskawie poczekać, aż skończy ona łaskawie wykonywać daną czynność.
Jeśli jesteście fanami thrillerów z zagmatwaną intrygą i tęsknicie za przygodowkami typu point and click, to mogę polecić Wam tę grę.

Why YGO Vrains is such an immeasurable disappointment: a list
First of all, I need to make it abundantly clear that Im a big fan of Vrains – I love Yusaku, Ryoken, Ai, Kusanagi... you see them very often on my dash. I fantasize about the ideal version of Vrains that’s written well, the Vrains that’s fully exploited its potentials, every night in my sleep. I wrote this list PRECISELY because I love Vrains. That’s why I got so frustrated with its cardinal writing issues (and production issues). It physically pains me to hear people calling Vrains the worst and most boring series of YGO – but the fact that I couldn’t argue against that because it’s true pains me more.
And now, an incomprehensive list of the faults of Yugioh Vrains.
1. What the fuck is wrong with the character designs (beside that of Yusaku and Ryoken???) Everyone looks aesthetically displeasing – characters in real life look incredibly boring they could easily drown in a crowd of background characters, but their avatars are OSTENTATIOUS. Seems like the character designer had no clue what “less is more” means – blue angel, soulburner, and Bohemann for example, look like they were immersed in a bucket of glue and then dumped into another bucket filled with random accessories.
(from a fan artist’s perspective…Im especially salty about takeru, akira, Kusanagi, and the Knights of Hanois’ designs…like, their designs don’t inspire me to draw. Their personalities might be interesting, but their looks lack the vibrant, enthusiastic energy that the 5Ds, Zexal, and Arc-V characters possess)
(imagine how many fanfics and fanarts of Kusanagi x Yusaku there would be had Kusanagi looked HALF as hot as Ryoken)
And don’t even get me started on the colour palette – whoever decided on the colours just cant make up their goddamn mind! Colour saturation is way off the charts, the range of colour is too wide the audience simply dont know where to focus.
2. Forgotten plotlines. Yusaku’s link sense? Hanoi’s spy in SOL? The Queen and the rest of the chess pieces? Yusaku’s forgotten memories? The rest of the victims of the Lost Incident? Just to name a few.
3. Character relationships are weak to minimal to none. Bonds and friendships – the vital element in all previous YGO series – is practically non-existent in Vrains. Where’s the camaraderie between our main casts (Yusaku, Aoi, Soulburner, Ema, Onizuka, etc…)? They don’t feel like a team fighting the evil together. They’re completely separate individuals who don’t give a single fuck if one of their…acquaintance…dies in a battle. We don’t have heartwarming moments of friendship blossoming and consolidating. It’s honestly such a let down.
4. Interesting and debatable topics thrown away. The conflict between artificial intelligence and humans could spark so many in-depth discussions, but then the writer just decided its all Lightening’s fault. No morally gray situations, no ambiguity between the line of good and evil. It’s just all Lightening and his petty jealousy… yeah.
Oh and if Ai lives on the world will blow up. Why? Do we have a concrete reason to back that statement? eh...
5. Overall quality of the animation. I don’t know if its because the animation staff was short on time or low on budget, but for a megacorporation (konami cough cough) that makes billions every year, they certainly are capable of investing more in this anime series. I can count the number of episodes in which the characters don’t look wacky with a single hand.
6. Character development, wasted potentials. Ryoken is the only character who received decent treatment. The rest of the Vrains cast are all disappointments. Original concepts are cool and promising – Yusaku, a victim of child abuse with PTSD, embarking on a journey to overcome his reclusiveness and learn to open up to people around him? HELL YEAH. Aoi, a teenage idol with depression developing into a more mature and responsible heroine who saves Link Vrains? IM ALL FOR IT. Soulburner’s character arc is fine overall but personally I don’t feel like it’s expanded enough. Also, there’s the mistreatment of side characters like Onizuka, Ema, Akira, the list goes on. I got so furious just looking at these characters and remembering that they’re all wasted and sidelined.
7. Incoherent/ random plotlines. IDK all episodes in season 1 (Hanoi’s arc) felt pretty consistent, focusing on a linear theme – Yusaku’s revenge on the Knights of Hanoi. But after that it felt like the writers gave up writing outlines and just wrote whatever he pleased/ considered more convenient for the sake of…a plot…that he had no idea which direction it was headed for. This is reflected in the amount of forgotten plotlines we listed previously.
8. Weak villains. Kinda related to point 4. Bohemann, Lightening, Windy, and Haru are all one-dimensional, flat, predictable villains with the cliché goal of “destroying humanity cuz humans are dumb and Ais are superior”. Not likeable, not fun to watch, not morally gray (something I expect from well-written antagonists), they are just there to serve as symbol of evil for the protags to defeat.
Honourable mentions - what I personally want to see in Vrains, really. Very biased.
- The familial interaction between Yusaku and Kusanagi? Brotherhood, perhaps? Without any mention of Yusaku’s parents, Kusanagi is the closest Yusaku has to a brother figure. I crave for some wholesome brotherly moments between these two.
- More slice of life episodes please.
- The friendship between Yusaku and Takeru. Please. Please. PLEASE. From the second opening we can see the animation staff CLEARLY intended for there to be a strong bond between Yusaku and Takeru – Takeru probably was written to serve as a Jounouchi/ Johan/ Crow sort of character. Yusaku and Takeru could bond over their trauma and overcome their PTSD together. AND IT WAS SO HEAVILY HINTED AT IN THE 2ND OP!!! fam what the fuck happened to that friendship, Im so robbed.
- Yusaku and Ryoken’s duel or tag duel. These two haven’t duelled AT ALL since the first season ended. Isn’t Ryoken Yusaku’s official rival? Isn’t it Yugioh tradition for the protag and the rival to duel like, a trillion times? AND ISNT IT ALSO A YUGIOH TRADITION FOR THE PROTAG AND THE RIVAL TO TAG DUEL?????? The fact that Yusaku and Ryoken never had a tag duel haunts me every night in my worst nightmares afjw4ot9wgrk

Thanks for coming to my ted talk, this marks the end of my rant on YGO VRAINS DISAPPOINTMENTS. Again, I harboured no malicious intent when I compiled the list – its more like a vent of frustration than actual criticism. I would pay billions to see a Vrains reboot or, if there exists an alternate universe where none of the writing/production issues above are present in Vrains, I would do a Kaiba and build a dimension travelling machine and immigrate there.
TLDR: wasted potentials. wAsTED PoTEntialS. WASTED POTENTIALS!!!!!!

Day 14-Favorite Vrains Character
@ygotober2020
Part of me wants to say Spectre because I love little shit characters, but I can't handle how he got backgrounded in the last season, I assume the voice actor was busy though. Otherwise yah, love Spectre, interesting backstory(Fucking weird though even by yugioh standards), I love that he was a Lost child but actually was grateful for it(I mean the rest of a kids obviously got fucked by it but he had a positive experience which is kind of odd but so is he so yah). Deck is cool, still waiting for it to be printed(Konami at least is thinking of it since it lost to Fossils in a poll last year to be made into real cards).
Others I fav are Playmaker, Ai, Revolver, Soulburner, Flame, Ghostgirl, Lightning, Windy, Roboppi, Pandora, and Shoichi.
Also I appreciate Vrains attempt at a smaller cast. It was a breath of fresh air especially after Arc-V. I like large casts but small casts I think works better.
