hi there! i stumbled on your blog and the kokushibo headcanons are cute lol. i was wondering what your thoughts are on a modern au? like his style, what his house/apartment would be like, what he’d do for work, that kinda thing. if you answered this before or if you’re not taking requests I’m so sorry, pls ignore! have a good rest of your day :)

Kokushibou Modern AU Headcanons

(I'm going to put him in his human form for this)

A little about him

+ His name is Tsugikuni Michikatsu, but Kokushibou is a nickname of his

+ He got the nickname from other members of a kendo club he participates in

+ Doing kendo is his main hobby and he sometimes enters competitions

+ He hasn't won a competition yet and has the habit of coming in second place

+ He grew up in a small town not far from Kyoto, but he lives in Tokyo now for work

+ He enjoys the options available in the city, but it can be too busy and crowded for him

+ He's a bit distanced from his family and doesn't visit them often

His job

+ He works as an editor for a publishing company

+ He doesn't mind his job and he makes pretty good money. But he does work overtime quite often

+ His least favourite part of his job is talking to people. He's glad that his job doesn't make him talk to the public (like he would if he worked at a shop or restaurant), but talking to clients or even his colleagues is exhausting and annoying to him

+ Once he reached a high enough position in the company, he stopped going to the 'mandatory' drinking sessions after work

+ His colleagues don't really like him for that, but now that he's in an editor position, there's not much they can do about it

+ His work is always very high quality

His apartment

+ He lives in a residential neighbourhood of Tokyo, just outside of the city centre

+ His apartment is a one-bedroom. It's in a modern building, but the design of the apartment is more traditional

+ He has a collection of calligraphy scrolls that he hangs on his walls

+ He has a single indoor plant by the main window

+ One of the things he invested in is his bathing area. It would look kind of like this, and he's very proud of it:

+ He can sit in there for hours. He might have fallen asleep in that bathtub once and is lucky his head stayed out of the water

+ He's kind of obsessed with his heated toilet seat, and if you don't use a bidet (or bidet function), he thinks you are a barbarian

+ He likes to play quiet music at home and hums along often

+ The music he plays is either traditional music or vkei

+ Liking vkei is his guilty pleasure

His style

+ He wears a typical black or dark grey suit to work. He ties up his long hair in a man-bun

+ When not at work, he usually wears his hair in a high ponytail. When it's hot out, he wears it in a man-bun regardless of where he is

+ However, he wears it down when he sleeps, without exception

+ His non-work wear is casual, but sleek-looking

+ He pulls off a nice t-shirt with jeans or trousers very well

+ Sometimes he wears well-made, high-quality sweatpants (like the kind that don't really look like sweatpants but they are)

+ He doesn't like shopping, so he probably buys all his normal clothes at Uniqlo. He did, however, invest in better-quality suits for work

+ He wears the same pair of Adidas trainers that he's had for years and somehow they're still in very good condition

+ In the colder months, he half-buries his face in a scarf when he's outside

+ He has an excessive amount of socks for some reason

+ He wears jinbei as pyjamas most of the time, but will wear some thermal sweats during the winter

+ No matter how hot it is, he will not go shirtless, even if he's alone at home

His hygiene

+ He bathes daily in the evening, and it's a ritual for him

+ He's really into hair care for the obvious reason

+ He uses the &honey shampoo/hair care line

+ His facial hair grows thicker on his chin and moustache area. He shaves every day, but there tends to be a bit of a shadow come the evening

+ For some reason, he has this obsession about grooming his eyebrows

Kokushibo is a stern but calm parent. He understands you can't force learning upon someone who doesn't want to be learned, but he does want you to at least try to pay attention in class. Maybe you'll find a passion for something new?

Kokushibo looks over your report card, blank faced as he takes in all the comments and concern addressed from your teachers. He reads over the letter grades, seeing as you always aced art classes, but for once you had a D in history instead of an F.

"Good job..." he muttered, placing the paper down as he patted your head, then allowed you to scurry off and go do whatever. 

Whenever Kokushibo sees you writing, he's always secretly peeking over your shoulder so he could see what you're writing. He likes literature and books, maybe you'll share with him? If you share any of your work, he'll give you constructive-criticism. He'll never leave your writing on a bad note, always making sure to point out some good characteristics or writing choices you made. Perhaps you'll become an author? 

Kokushibo is always wondering what you're doing when he's away from you. It's normal to ponder about what your child is spending their time on, but he's always curious how your mind works and what's so joyful about coloring and writing.

Kokushibo is a consumer, not much of a producer. He sees things in front of them, processes the information, then moves on. Everything's just so black and white to him, compared to you and your artistically-inclined mind. You have such a vivid and colorful perspective of life, he should really be taking notes on this.

When Kokushibo has to go to parent-teacher conferences, he's always stone-faced as he listens to your teachers ramble on about you not paying attention in class or your poor performance. Kokushibo is usually zoning out while they're speaking, but he's thinking of ways to make the next school year more easier for you (and him). 

Kokushibo tries giving you colored sticky notes to write on to take notes, but you just end up doodling and creating small poems. 

Kokushibo tries to prompt you to watching online tutor videos, but right as he leaves the room you click off the video and check your favorite art apps. 

Kokushibo tries to teach you the subjects himself, trying to figure out if you have a certain way of learning such as hands on, or auditory, or visually, but he just comes to realize you simply have no interest in anything except arts. 

When Kokushibo gives up trying to teach you for the day, you allow him to use your glittery sparkly pens and doodle something on paper. He comes to realize maybe drawing and writing isn't so bad, I mean, if it makes you happy then just go for it. There's been tons of famous artists and authors who make bank and end up successful and happy in the future, maybe you're one of them.

Kokushibo's tried to make you study literature and the origins of art. If you're going to take an interest in those things, maybe you could learn something useful or insightful by learning their past or methods?

Kokushibo always has some sort of simple breakfast for you when you wake up in the morning (he's an early-riser). Before every meal, he's always telling you to wash off the lead marks and ink off your hands so you can eat. 

If you stay up late, Kokushibo is a little annoyed, but lets it go. It's more of a punishment to you than it is to him; you're the one sleep-deprived, not him. He figures you'll learn to go to bed early after you keep accidentally knocking your water on your papers when you start dozing off. 

Even though Kokushibo does tell you to try and cut back on your arts during class time, he can't help but appreciate your stubbornness. At least he knows you won't let yourself get pushed around by anyone, even your own guardian! If drawing and writing is your own coping mechanism or simply just a hobby you love, he'll support it. At least you're not doing anything harmful to your health, so he's glad for that. 

        Slowly but surely, I'm finding energy to complete requests that been in my inbox for months. It's so hard finding time to write due to all of my outside activities, and it's always so difficult figuring out what to write when I'm unmotivated or stuck in an all too common writer's block, but I'm chipping away my requests bit by bit!

▪︎Kokushibo had undergone rigorous training for being selected in the special American forces. While the test is itself physically gruelling, that is not to say that it doesn't challenge your mental strength either. To be chosen, one must not only possess physical prowess but also a great deal of mental strength and a strong will.

▪︎Kokushibo exemplifies this, as he is a man with very high self-control.  

Or at least, that's what he used to believe.. until he met you. 

▪︎Kokushibo didn't fall for your beauty, but rather, it was your mannerisms that stole his heart—the delicate way you walked with light and gentle steps, the gentle way you tucked your hair behind your ear when you smiled, and all those little, endearing quirks about you that just made his heart skip a beat.   

▪︎Often, Kokushibo would be left feeling confused. There seemed to be no logical explanation for the feelings he had harboured for you; nor for the way he secretly yearned for your attention, even if he may never admit it.. 

▪︎Speaking of which, there would be a time when Kokushibo happened to overhear you talking to one of your friends about your taste in men, and who you’d like to date. Although he was ready to leave, not wanting to invade your personal space with your discussions, his curiosity got the better of him, and he found himself eavesdropping. 

▪︎Kokushibo was relieved to find that he matched most of your preferences, like your attraction to physically fit and muscular men and your appreciation for maturity.

▪︎However, when you brought up your liking for men with a good sense of humour and glasses, Kokushibo suddenly realised that he didn’t quite fit that description at all.  

Because let's be real, he is pretty serious most of the time, and he's not getting any glasses any time soon. 

▪︎Kokushibo would feel a bit let down by this, but he would do his best not to dwell on it. After all, these things were trivial, and it wasn't in his hands to alter his eyesight or his personality. If you chose to turn him away because of it, then that was your choice. He would come to terms with it, realising that perhaps.. neither of you were actually meant for each other to begin with. 

▪︎And yet, no matter how many times Kokushibo tried to suppress his feelings for you, deep down, your words would linger in his mind. Your sweet voice that would just call out to him, your gorgeous smile that simply warmed his heart, your lovely h/c hair, and the sweetness in the way you spoke—everything about you was just.. perfect.  

▪︎No, he could not give up on you. If you were to turn him down anyways, then so be it. However, he wasn't the type to back down easily; Kokushibo would always put in the effort before throwing in the towel, and he will prove to you that he was the one.    

▪︎The very next day, he would make a resolution. He wasn't the type who sought to please others; in fact, he viewed it as a sign of weakness. The idea of letting someone else's thoughts and preferences take control of you or grovelling for their acceptance was repugnant to him.

 ▪︎Yet despite his strong beliefs, Kokushibo decided to explore something new, especially given your interest in it. Though he was not the kind of person to yield to anyone's desires, not even his own superior. Everything he did was based on his own choices.

▪︎Kokushibo had perfect vision, so regular glasses were totally out of the question for him. However, he did begin to wear sunglasses more often, even opting to wear them indoors. [Hey, maybe you're the reason why he wears those all the time o_o]

▪︎It wasn't proper glasses, but to him, glasses were glasses, regardless of their appearance and function. In fact, Kokushibo even seemed to enjoy how they suited him. Sure, it did look a bit strange, but nobody dared to question him—he had become far too intimidating to approach than before after wearing his sunglasses .    

▪︎In terms of humour, Kokushibo would honestly be the last person you would hear an outright joke from, and he was well aware of it. He might throw out an indirect quip from time to time, but delivering a full on joke was just not for him. But still, he still always tried making an effort to bring a smile to your face every time you came around.  

▪︎Though, Kokushibo wasn't quite sure how to make you laugh. So, he considered reaching out to his boss, Muzan, or even Kaigaku for some tips, all while trying to keep his desire to impress you under wraps. When Kaigaku suggested getting a joke book, he jumped at the chance and bought one right away.  

▪︎Before long, Kokushibo had a small joke book in his bag, ready to share a joke with you whenever you stopped by, hoping to make you laugh.  

▪︎ One such occasion was when Muzan treated everyone to a newly opened, upscale restaurant. [If you don't work under Muzan, picture him inviting your own boss and you tagging along.]

▪︎Kokushibo would be sitting right besides you, beside his boss and Kaigaku. Although he was typically a man of few words, you noticed that he seemed to appear even more reserved than usual.

▪︎All of you had made your orders and had decided to try something fancy, deciding to try out boiled oysters. While the rest of the table was engaged in lively discussions, you and Kokushibo together had found yourselves in an awkward silence. In an attempt to break the ice, you spoke:

"Soo.. oysters, huh? Have you ever tried it before?" "..Oysters..? Hmm.. Please, excuse me.." Kokushibo would then slowly and secretly pull something out—a book titled "cheesy jokes that will make you laugh"—something which you caught a glance of given he was seated next to you. In contrast to the light-hearted title, his expression would remain serious and grave, as if he were reading a volume detailing the darkest atrocities of humankind. Slowly placing the book down, he would begin to speak:   "Why don't oysters.. donate to charity? Because they're.. shellfish..." In the background, you could hear a snort seemingly from the boy with the short spiky black hair. Curiously gazing at you, he would await your response. Maybe this time, you might find him humorous? "...oh!"

▪︎Again, Kokushibo isn't really the type to 'impress' anyone per se. He values formality and believes that if you want to make a genuine impression, it should be done with dignity. He thinks that showing proper respect and taking the time to understand each other is far more meaningful.

▪︎Infact, to him, trying to "show off" or "impress" someone is simply immature—a superficial tactic that relies on materialistic things to win someone's affection.   

▪︎But ultimately, we know how determined Kokushibo really is; once he's set on being your lover, he will take it as a challenge and put in every effort to show you that he’s the right choice for you.
