"What are you doin' ridin' out here like you got someplace to be?" he called, wiping at his brow, already comfortable with the knowledge that the image of Kagome dismounting to meet him would be seared into his mind for years. He tried to keep his voice even, but the threat of having to send Kagome away a second time was warring with his desire to pull her into his arms.
Kagome strode toward him, pulling something from her pocket and holding it up between them. "Same thing you're doin'," Kagome smiled. "...writing beautiful letters to my father.”

"How about, just one kiss?"
A little ficlet for a vaguely a/b/o Inukag fanfic I got floating around my failing braincells. Wrote it at 3 am in my notes app, so obviously not beta read.
Basically, Kagome gets drunk at a party, and decides to start coming on to InuYasha. InuYasha is trying to fight the urge to comply to her every whim.
CONTENTS INCLUDE: implied drinking, suggestive language
"Bite me" she slurred, liquor heavy on her breath.
Goosebumps prickled on his neck, "What?!"
"Oh? You didn't hear me?" She leaned towards him, "I said, BITE ME!"
Scent flooded his nose, overwhelming his senses, as she drunkenly swayed forward. Her chest pressed against his in her unbalanced state. His face flushed, and not from any sort of beverage. From the low cut of her shirt, he could see, well, everything. Between sights and smells, his inhibitions were quickly leaving him. Since her skin was so close, her delicate, honey-laden scent was wreaking havoc in his brain.
So quickly, grabbing hold of her shoulders, Inuyasha shoved the drunk girl' body away from his own. Probably harsher than he meant to.
"Oh!" She squeaked, "Playing rough~ I like that!"
He chuckled nervously, "No, I-"
She placed a finger on his lips. "Shush, I knoowww," she slurred, yet again, "I was-- the one!" She shot her hands up, in a cheerleader fashion.
She started to fall backwards, and he rushed forward to catch her. Her raised arms fell limp on his shoulders. Again, she leaned up against him, swaying gently. Fingers found the tie that held up his hair and released it. Silver strands flowed across his face and torso.
Her eyes lit up, enchanted by the way he looked at hers. Amber eyes searching, begging, yearning for her. He wet his lips. They looked so firm. His arms held her. They felt so steady. Koga had never looked like this. The poor boy was trembling, and from the way he supported her, she trembled right along with him. Now was the moment.
She stretched to her tiptoes, warm breath breezing past his ear. Hands begged to move. Her shirt had ridden up, right where his devious hands held her. The gentle flesh was cool to the touch, twitching against his own skin. He hungered for more, to feel more of her. More of the silk she called skin. To feel her heart race just under it. To taste her supple flesh.
"InuYasha, I know."
Her silken voice sent shivers down his spine, sowing betrayal in every cell.
"I know what I did to you~" she giggled gently.
"I'm not quite certain i know what you mean," he managed to fumble, quickly succumbing to her advances.
For what felt like centuries, he had longed for this moment. For her to acknowledge him. And here she was, throwing herself on him. But it wasn't right. The foul stench of liquor tainted what should have been the most beautiful moment of his life.
"Shushush!! It's okay, don't be nervous!"
In her drunken state, she clearly knew nothing of his thoughts.
"I heard, there is a solution in the case of our situation." Her breath was hot on his neck, sending tingles down his spine. "If you bite me, you know, it can let me, smell you. I could, feel how you do." She giggled, pausing between almost every word, the alcohol interfering with her thoughts.
He knew what she meant though. The method of bite was centuries old. As a Beta, she was not privy to all the scents and desires brought on by the mind of an Alpha. But if he bit her, for a period of time, she could experience it all.
But no matter how he wanted to, how glorious it would be for her to know. His body ached and begged him to fulfill her desires. But his brain knew that there was no way to know if it was her, or the alcohol speaking.
"That brings, me back, to my original point. You should bite me!" She said, a sudden burst of excitement lighting her roseated features. "I think, it's a great idea!"
"Kagome, this isn't a good- I- it's not-" he stuttered. Again, she rose up on her tiptoes, swaying slightly, caramel eyes focused on his lips.
He swallowed dryly, every bit of moisture gone as she continued to lean in. Her scent flowing heavier than he had ever experienced, clouding his mind. Desperate for some clarity, Inuyasha tried to pull his hands away from her back, to put some space between them. However, she quickly closed the gap, restless hands finding place on his hips.
"Kagome, seriously, this isn't- I won't do-" He needed to find anyway to side track her. "Wait! What about- about Koga!"
"Koga and I are on a break! You don't have to worry about him!" She assured InuYasha
One little white lie never hurt anyone. At least that's what the several beers and two shots told her. She had to know what he felt. The way his eyes darted about. From her lips, to her eyes. His nerves delighted her.
Oh. Shit. He had completely forgotten about Koga. That jackass would kill him for sure. But once again, the power of her scent began to cloud his judgement. That glorious scent of honey and cherries eroded nearly any logical part of his brain away.
"How about, just one kiss?"

So, I voted for roulette categories, but I was wondering if there's a consideration of permanent category adds? Like a Best Non-Canon romance category and a Best RarePair. Roulettes are great and spotlighting specific couples and such is a good idea, but it can feel a little pointless to nominate just about anything other than InuKag, maybe SessKag. People vote their ships, which is I get, I only read what I enjoy. But overwhelming popularity of something can discourage participation from others
Hello dear! Thank you for reaching out to us in regards to your concerns. The FC mods are always striving to improve FC and create an inclusive space as much as possible, so we appreciate the feedback! After brainstorming and discussions by the mod-team, we have decided to add a permanent Rare Pair category to both fanfiction and fanart for the following year (ie: 3 terms) to see what participation looks like.
Here are the definitions: Best Rare Pair Fanfiction: Stories that have developed a believable relationship between two or more Inuyasha characters, excluding the following pairings: InuKag, MirSan, KogKag, KogAya, SessKag, SessRin, SessKagu, Inuparents, InuKik, & InuKog. “Believable” is subjective, and it is up to those nominating/voting to draw their own line on that quantifier and vote their “Best.” This includes canon universe, AU/AR settings, and crossovers, and can be romantic or platonic in nature. However, they have to have a primary role within the story.
Best Rare Pair Fanart: Any romantic or platonic depiction of two or more of the characters of Inuyasha, excluding the following: InuKag, MirSan, KogKag, KogAya, SessKag, SessRin, SessKagu, Inuparents, InuKik, & InuKog. Can be canonverse, AU/AR, or crossover in nature.
We hope this allows for more inclusivity for all those rare pair enjoyers and we look forward to the new creations nominated!

Kouga and Kagome as Gomez and Morticia. That is all.
ANON.
Kagome is a little more cheerful, though you can tell from looking at her that she doesn't shy away from the morbid. She's quick with a smile and will greet and entertain anyone, but she also won't hesitate to pull that lever to forcefully eject someone from the house.
They have specific dance nights. Not that they only dance together one night a week, but that Kouga sets up a dance floor complete with mood lighting, music, and drinks once a week. He chooses the theme because Kagome is perfectly happy to follow his lead and sometimes, they have dancing lessons through the week when Kouga gets a hair up his sleeve and wants to try a brand new dancing style he caught on YouTube.
(Kagome will never admit who's actually behind the random tiktoks saved to his account. Not that she has to -- Kouga knows. And Kagome knows that he knows. But neither say a word because that's the game.)
They don't live in a black on black on black mansion, but they do have the largest patch of land in the neighborhood. And it is a neighborhood with boring normal neighbors they say hi to when getting the mail or washing their cars. And this patch of land is home to so. many. animals. It started when Kouga came home with seven dogs from the shelter because they looked at him. Kagome arranged for a separate structure to be built a bit away from the house with plumbing and heat and air conditioning so the dogs wouldn't suffer outside, simply because she knew it wouldn't stop at seven.
Currently, they have thirteen cats, two horses, five goats, nine chickens, one rooster, three sheep, and twenty-nine dogs (six of those dogs are livestock guards and five are herders). They employ three people to work their little farm and have already started a garden.
Ginta and Hakkaku live in the basement. Shippo's room is in the attic. Miroku and Sango each have their own rooms even though they live across the street, and Kouga made Inuyasha a room in the barn. (It's only there as a joke, Inuyasha actually has a very nice suite on the main floor. They turned the barn room into a bar with a poker table where everyone hides during dance nights.)

What are your thoughts if KogKag and InuKik became the Canon Endgame Ships?
A warning that this might not be the answer you’re looking for? TL;DR — I feel that canon endgame is a deathwish to ships.
I have a pretty simple outlook on this — if a ship is not intended to be canon by the creators, I do not want them to be canon. For a couple reasons:
1. The authors have a reason to write what they write. Whether I agree with it or not, someone writing something they don’t like or believe in is evident (hello, GoT). InuKag was always intended to be the canon endgame. If Takahashi, for some reason, decided to suddenly switch up the ships, it wouldn’t have worked out. The buildup would have been lacking because that wasn’t her intention. Creators should stick to what they think is best, else the entire story falls flat. (Not saying that all canon decisions are the best, but I’d rather read what the creator wanted vs. what the creator felt pressured to make.)
2. The more screentime a character gets, the more opportunity there is to bastardize that character. See: every filler episode ever. Currently, KogKag can be whatever I want to make it. I don’t have to rewrite many mistakes in canon as I would have to do with other canon ships (looking at you, Naruto). With the two characters left on their own away from each other, we aren’t seeing a terrible twist to their story that suddenly becomes “canon”.
3. Sequels suck. I learned this with Boruto and what they did to my favs. I have literally no interest in watching Yashahime because I don’t accept what that studio is going to do to Kouga or Kagome (or any other character they’re dealing with). With KogKag not being canon, it means I don’t have to deal with new “canon” content ruining my ship because they want to cash in on an old fandom and need drama.
Essentially, I don’t want them to be canon because it won’t be what I want it to be. Writing non-canon ships gives me so much more freedom that’s not dictated by other people. I think a world where KogKag and InuKik are canon endgame would be...different. And considering how the anime studio portrayed Kouga, I would absolutely hate what that would do to our favorite wolf demon.

“I suppose our lessons will have to wait until we’re back home.”
Shrugging, Kouga fingered a book on a nearby shelf, and Kagome smiled when his hand paused long enough from him to read the cover. “Not sure you’d want to waste your time when there’re old friends to catch up with. Besides, I doubt you’ll lose everything you learned if I let you off easy for a few days.”
Kagome rolled her eyes in lieu of laughing. “You're not a waste of time. And don’t feel obligated to visit that library if you don’t want to. You deserve a break as well.”
“Wouldn’t be an obligation at all. I hope you won’t find it a bother if I should knock on your door to help me pronounce something.”
Kagome fought the smile that threatened to split her face and cause her to blush. Looking up at Kouga without lifting her head, she tried not to think about how the novel she shoved under her pillow would describe such a look. “Never a bother. Consider my door open.”
Kouga narrowed his eyes, the grin on his face wicked. “I'll remember that.”

Another A/B/O InuYasha Ficlet
This is a follow up to my previous Inukag a/b/o ficlet. It would happen about a week after Kagome and InuYasha hookup.
And yes, I did write this instead of eating food. How did you know?
Basically, Kagome wants to talk through her feelings. InuYasha is trying to avoid his feelings like the plague. But one small, neglected issue in the whole matter: Koga.
CONTENTS INCLUDE: mild violence, strong language
"INUYASHA!!"
The sound shook his table. Kagome had been trying to track him down for several days. But InuYasha was faster than her. He had to be. He wasn't willing to be near her.
Little known side effect to biting your soul mate, desires only get worse. Now all it took was a single faint smell, her gentle touch, her gaze flowing over him, her--
STOP THINKING ABOUT HER! FOCUS JACKASS!
Worse yet, his rut was a few days away.
The moment he had heard her shout his name, InuYasha jumped up on the table and started sprinting full speed.
"GET BACK HERE!!" She screamed, "WE NEED TO TALK!"
"NO WE DON'T!" he shouted back down the hall at her.
He started to slip when he took a corner a little sharp, but recovered his balance well enough. It didn't help his body fought his mind on every step. As rut creapt up on him, the desire to be near Kagome only got worse and worse. His knees failed him every time she so much as looked at him.
He ran down yet another hallway, begging for any place to hide. Just about every occupied classroom had people peering out at the commotion.
"KAGOME!" InuYasha heard a familiar voice call the girl's name, and her foot steps stopped.
InuYasha kept running, until he could duck behind another corner, certain she wasn't chasing him anymore. He leaned against the lockers and heavy breaths racked his body. He needed to recover from the sudden burst of energy.
"WHAT THE HELL!" Koga shouted. His voice was a sudden thunder clap, shaking the building. "YOU AVOID ME ALL WEEK! AND NOW YOU SMELL LIKE HIM?"
"Koga! We're friends! Of course his scent would be on me! I'm around him all the time!" She reasoned.
"NO! Don't try to lie to me! If only you could smell yourself. IT'S DISGUSTING!" Koga's voice only got more outraged with every word.
InuYasha cringed internally, ashamed of his actions. He had thought the scent marking he had left wasn't that strong, but apparently it had lasted for close to five days.
"Koga stop!" She pleaded, "It's not what you think!"
Shit. This can't be good. No this can't be good at all.
"Kagome. I loved you. I trusted you," he spat, "But you go sneaking around behind my back? With InuYasha of all people? Seriously? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!"
Something in InuYasha forced him to his feet. To Kagome's side. Koga sounded pissed, and InuYasha couldn't fight the urge to protect her from him. He knew it was the building hormones of rut wreaking havoc on his brain, but he didn't have the power or desire to fight it.
My stupid mistake got her into this mess. I owe it to her to protec- To face my consequences.
Once InuYasha was on his feet and around the corner, he knew he made the right choice. Koga had Kagome pinned against the wall, fingers dug deep into her shoulders. Even from where he stood, InuYasha could see the tears well in her eyes, and the scent of fear ebbing off her.
The scene sent a shock through his mind, destroying any possibility of restraint. Before InuYasha knew what happened, Koga was on the ground, clutching a crooked and clearly broken nose and Kagome was wrapped firmly in his arms.
He begged to coo and fawn over her. He needed to wipe away her tears, hold her so close. The world would never hurt her again. In the same vein, he fought the urge to pull Koga back to his feet and rip into him. To disfigure the fucker until there was no identifying the body. But at the same time, he could not not bear to remove his hands from Kagome, even if it was to comfort or defend her.
"Don't. Fucking. Touch. Her." He growled, emphasizing every word. There were no other words or thoughts even possible in his mind. It was all instincts and hormones controlling him.
Koga searched the sight in front of him. His eyes were frenzied and panicked, switching between Kagome and InuYasha's faces faster than InuYasha could register. Finally, his eyes settled on InuYasha, and twisted into rage.
"WHAT THE HELL? INUYASHA YOU BITCH! THAT'S MY FUCKING GIRLFRIEND! WHAT SORT OF BALLS DO YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO EVEN LOOK AT HER!?" Koga slowly got up, shouting every possible insult he could think of. Finally, he started to pull his fist back, readying a punch aimed at InuYasha.
InuYasha took the punch in stride, and regrettably removed his hand from Kagome. He cocked his fist back and buried right in Koga's gut. The jackass landed flat on his ass yet again.
"If you try to get up again. I will personally ensure that you will never have use of your legs. Ever."

Oh my goodness! I actually to get it on here with no other problems (knock on wood)
I want to thank @a-mad-youkai-tea-party for putting the idea of a sexy paramedic Kouga out there and I do apologize it’s been a while since I’ve actually been in the right head space to write, so if things read weird, I’m sorry
I also want to thank @underwater0phelia again for being so awesome and so encouraging, thank you for all of your help!
Sango rushed into the bathroom when she'd heard Kagome's shriek followed by a loud crash and pulled back the curtain to find her trying to get up from the floor of the tub, blood pouring from a cut just above her brow. She turned off the water and helped her get into a sitting position against the wall.
"What happened?"
"I was shaving and I slipped, but I'm okay can you help me get up?"  Her head was pounding in tune with her heart and her words came out slower than she wanted them too. Sango wasn't looking convinced.
"Yeah, you're not okay. I'm calling an ambulance so just stay put," she instructed, pulling her phone from her pocket and dialing the emergency number.
Kagome tried getting up again, but was quickly stopped by Sango, who pressed a cloth to her head to try and control the bleeding.  She eventually gave in to her demands, despite assuring her that she was fine, she was just a little sore and dizzy.
The paramedics had made it there shortly and a brace was put around her neck before they shined a light in her eyes and she winced at the jolt of pain she felt in her head from it.  Then she heard fingers snapping next to her ears and she wanted it to stop so her head would stop hurting.
"Stop that," she complained and she heard a very male chuckle.
"I'm sorry, but I gotta do it, okay?"
She opened her eyes when they didn't feel as heavy and was greeted with the sight of the most gorgeous man she'd ever seen, the fact that he was a youkai didn't hurt either.
"Oh no, you're hot," Kagome muttered in a daze, making the paramedic give her an amused look.
"Thanks beautiful, you're not too bad yourself," he told her with a wink and she realized that she'd actually said that out loud and buried her face in her hands, completely mortified.
"Okay, you can just let me die now, I'm so sorry" she groaned out, too scared to look up, but she felt a hand on her shoulder and she glanced up, which turned out to be a bad idea, since her dizziness returned and her stomach did a flip.
He must have noticed her swaying because he put his other hand on her other side to steady her and guided her to lean back.
"I need you to tell me what you're feeling so I can help you out okay?"  He instructed, his flirting tone turning back to concerned and professional.
"I got really dizzy and I feel like I need to throw up," she really didn't want to puke in front of him, why couldn't she have gotten sent another woman instead of the hot youkai with the prettiest blue eyes she'd ever seen?
He looked like he was trying to stifle a laugh while he asked his partner to grab him a bucket just in case and realized that she'd voiced her thoughts again. "I'm just going to shut up now, okay?"
"Okay, well while you're doing that, I need you to close your eyes and take a couple of slow deep breaths, yup, just like that, good job. Don't fall asleep on me though, I need you to stay awake for me beautiful,"
"I'm not feelin' so beautiful right now," she said, breaking her no talking rule.
"No one with a concussion ever does, but don't worry, we're going to get you all fixed up," the tenderness in his voice soothed her and soon she felt the vertigo ease.
"How ya feelin' sweetheart?"
"Better with you here. I like you, you're so nice," it was true, his aura had radiated around her, making her feel safe and calm. His soft chuckle bringing a lazy smile to her face
"She's single, by the way," Sango piped in from the hallway, where she was busy talking with the other paramedic.
"Good to know," he said with a smirk before turning his attention back to a flustered Kagome. "Do you think you can stand or do you want me to carry you over to the stretcher?" He asked a bit more seriously.
Kagome thought about it for a moment,  gauging whether her still shaky legs would be able to support her. She decided to try on her own and lurched forward as she lost her balance. His arms wrapped around her immediately to support her as she grabbed onto his arms.
"Take it easy for me sweetheart. More deep breaths and we'll try again when you're ready," she nodded lightly and enjoyed the warmth that his body was providing.
It took another couple minutes but she was steady enough that he could shift her enough to scoop his arms under her, making the towel that Sango had draped over her slide off and she blushed brightly.
"I'm naked," she whimpered in embarrassment, making him laugh lightly.
"Don't worry, I won't look unless you want me to," he joked, delighting in hearing her squeak and the slight spike in her scent.
He had her on the stretcher, covered and secured in no time and was being carried out of the building with Sango behind them ready to follow in her car. She was fine until she was loaded into the back of the ambulance and her anxiety began to build.
Luckily the cute paramedic had opted to ride with her while his partner drove and he immediately noticed her distress.
"What's wrong sweetheart? Tell me what's going on," he asked, getting ready to grab whatever he would need.
"I'm sorry. I'm just scared, I don't like hospitals," she said, taking a shaky breath and tried not to cry.
"It's okay, you're gonna be fine," he soothed, brushing his fingers through her bangs with one hand and holding her hand with the other.
"Will you stay with me?"
"Sure, I'll stay with you as long as I can okay?" His answer seemed to calm her, even though she kept a tight grip on his hand, not that he minded.
Once they arrived, he kept his word, staying in the room with her and Sango until it was time for her to be sent for a MRI. When she got back he was gone and Sango must have noticed her face fall because she gave her a hug.
"He got another call and had to leave but he asked me to give you this," she said, handing Kagome a slip of paper.
'I'd like to take you out when you're feeling better, your friend put my number in your phone so feel free to call anytime.
Take care beautiful, Kouga (the hot guy that saved your life)'
Kagome giggled as she read the note and handed it back to Sango, asking her to put it in her bag for her.
"I swear Kagome, only you could get a date by getting your ass kicked in the shower,"  Sango joked with a laugh.
"It's part of my charm I guess," she giggled as she thought about Kouga, eager to see him again, hopefully with a few less bumps and bruises next time.

KogKag Secret Santa 2017
I apologize to everyone who participated with @kogkagsecretsanta for my late submission. This past week had been crazy. I was assigned @kagomehigurashi, and as an apology I made her story 2 parts, so expect another tag soon. :)
Part 1|
Kouga stood awkwardly at recess watching the other kids play. Being the new kid in the middle of the school year was rough. He knew being ten years old would be tough, but he had no idea it would be this tough. His classmates would laugh and chase each other around the playground.
“What’s your name?”
Kouga looked up and found a younger girl with blue-grey eyes and long black hair staring at him curiously.
“Kouga,” he answered her.
“I’m Kagome. Why aren’t you playing with your friends?”
“I don’t have any friends. Today is my first day.”
“Oh.” Kagome stood next to him along the fence. A moment of silence passed between them, and then she continued, “I don’t have any friends right now either.”
“Why not?”
“They all started acting weird when my daddy died over the summer.”
Kouga felt sadness fill him up as he saw this nice little girl standing there awkwardly next to him.
“I’ll be your friend!” he declared.
She smiled at him. He noticed a couple of holes in her mouth from when her baby teeth fell out.
“Wanna play tag?”
“Sure, but I have to warn you, I’m pretty fast,” Kouga told her, giving her a ten second head start before chasing after her. The two chased after each other laughing until her teacher called her in. Kouga knew she was younger than him, and watched as his new friend waved goodbye to him. They promised they would find each other the next day.
He went back to staring at his classmates enjoying the day and missing his new friend.
“Hey you’re really fast!” A boy in his class yelled at him. “I’m Ginta, and this is Hakkaku. Do you want to play soccer with us?”
Kouga smiled and ran up to them, happy to have made some friends on his first day.
When his mother picked him up from school that day, he eagerly told her all about his new friends.
“Kagome sounds very sweet, but I’m glad you made friends in your class sweetie,” his mother told him.
“Me too. Kagome is the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen. Well, besides you,” he corrected himself.
His mother laughed. “So there is no problem with you going to school tomorrow then is there?”
Kouga shook his head. He couldn’t wait until tomorrow.
Kagome stood against the fence waiting for Kouga to show up. This was their ritual. She would get out first, and wait for him to show up. Sometimes Ginta and Hakkaku would be with him, and they would all decide what game to play. Sometimes they played sports, tag, hide and seek, and on very special days, they would play pretend. Those were Kagome’s favorite because they told her they were too big to play pretend, but they would indulge her. The group would play pirates, bank robbers, or demons.
The boys called her sister, and she loved it. She never knew what it was like to have an older sibling, and it was great having someone else be there to play with and look out for her. When her baby brother got bigger, she would make sure he felt the same way.
Now that she had other friends, her classmates slowly started to include her in games as well. She loved going to school now.
A boy in the same grade as Kouga came up to her and introduced himself as Bankotsu.
“I need a nurse to help with our war games. Can you do it?”
Kagome shook her head in response. “I’m waiting on my friend. His class is running late.”
“But you are the only one not playing with anyone. Come on,” he grabbed her arm and tried to pull her to his group of friends.
“I said no,” she yelled and pushed him down.
The boy looked up at her angrily and stood up hurriedly. “You’re gonna pay for that!”
“Leave her alone!” a voice growled from behind them.
Kagome smiled as she realized Kouga, Ginta, and Hakkaku were all glaring at Bankotsu with their arms crossed. She ran over to them, and let Ginta observe her arm that Bankotsu grabbed without a fuss. Kouga protectively put his arm around her.
“Leave our sister alone!” Hakkau yelled at him.
“This doesn’t involve you,” Bankotsu sneered.
“Yes it does. Didn't anyone tell you this third grader is off limits. She’s with us.”
Kagome beamed at Kouga’s words.
“You heard him! I told you I didn’t want to play with you anyways,” Kagome said from behind Kouga. He smiled at the courage his friend had.
“My girl said she didn’t wanna play with you.”
Bankotsu walked up to Kouga and shoved him in the chest. Kouga’s face morphed from angry to shock, then back to angry again. His blue eyes narrowed at Bankotsu before he passed Kagome off to Ginta and Hakkaku and pushed him back.
“Fight!” A kid from the playground yelled out and they students all ran to their group. Bankotsu tackled Kouga and they rolled around in the dirt before a teacher showed up pulling the two apart.
“Principal’s office you two. Now,” he said sternly.
“It wasn’t his fault, he was protecting me,” Kagome spoke up.
The teacher eyed them all and decided to send them all to the principal’s office for the full story. Kagome was in shock. She was never sent to the principal’s office. Never. Only bad children went there. She wasn’t bad, and neither were her friends. It just didn’t make sense.
The principal listened to all sides of the story and only gave detention to Kouga and Bankotsu. Kagome thought it was extremely unfair since Bankotsu grabbed her first, but the principal wouldn’t budge.
Kouga knew it didn’t matter as long as Kagome was safe. He would go through a hundred detentions if it meant no one would lay another hand on her again. And they never did. After that day, everyone knew not to mess with Kagome or her friends.
The school year passed by fast and the next thing Kagome knew she had to say goodbye to her friends. She did her best not to cry and to act like the big girl they told her she was. Her boys were leaving elementary school and going to middle school. Next year it would just be her again.
“I’m going to miss you,” Kagome whimpered, doing her best to blink away the unshed tears.
“You’ll be fine. I know because you’re my girl, and my girl is strong. You’ll find another lonely kid on the playground, and be friends with them. You’ll see,” Kouga tried to placate her.
“Take care sis, we’ll see you in middle school,” Ginta assured her. The boys didn’t have the heart to tell her there was a possibility she was going to a different one. She was too young to realize friends would have to disperse over town once elementary was over.
They all hugged her goodbye and said their last farewell on the last day of school. Kagome knew Kouga would be sad if he knew she cried when his mom picked him up for the last time at their school, so she swore if she ever saw him again, she wouldn’t tell him. She wanted to be the strong girl he thought she was.
10 Years Later
Kagome awoke and rolled over groggily to look at the clock on the side of her desk.
“Shit!” she cursed out loud.
“What happened?” her roommate asked sleepily.
“I’m gonna be late. My final is today!” she screamed.
Sango’s eyes popped open and hopped out of bed in their dorm room like lightning. “It’s okay, we can fix it! Shirt!” she yelled, tossing Kagome a shirt.
“Shirt,” she confirmed as she tossed off her nightgown and slipped the shirt over her body. It was too late to grab a bra.
“Pants!” Sango yelled, throwing one of their many pairs scattered on the floor.
“Are they clean?” Kagome yelled, hopping into one pants leg.
‘Who cares. You have to be across campus in 15 minutes!” Sango argued, tossing her a pair of socks as well.
“Right,” Kagome agreed. Kagome threw her hair up in a bun and rushed to the restroom to brush her teeth. Sango rummaged through their cabinets above the desk and got out a package of pop-tarts. Kagome kicked open their mini-fridge and grabbed a bottle of orange juice with the hand that wasn’t brushing her teeth, and shoved it into her backpack.
Sango placed the pop-tarts in her backpack and looked through the contents of Kagome’s backpack to make sure she had a scantron and pencils for her final.
Kagome rushed back out of the room, her mouth feeling fresh, and her face clean. She didn’t have time to put concealer under the dark circles of her eyes. Sango grabbed Kagome’s sweatshirt and handed it to her as Kagome ran out the door.
“Don’t run too fast without the sweatshirt on, you aren’t wearing a bra!” Sango yelled after her.
Kagome ran down the hallway and pushed open the door to the stairwell. Before she exited the dorm building, Kagome put on the sweatshirt and braced herself for the winter winds. She ran as fast as she could across campus, and by some miracle made it to her final right on time.
She silently thanked whatever guardian angel was out there as she slid into an empty desk and pulled out her scantron and pencil. The student next to her passed down the exam to her, and she passed it on. Kagome looked over the first sheet quickly, and took a breath. She could do this.
Two hours later Kagome walked out of the building feeling somewhat satisfied on how well she did on her final. This was her last one of the fall semester, and all she had to do left was pack up and head back to her hometown with Sango.
Kagome rubbed her eyes and wanted nothing more than to crawl back into bed. Other students were walking about to their own separate destinations. She let out a huge yawn, closing her eyes. She let out a small shout as she bumped into something.
“Sorry,” she moaned, “I just got out of a final.”
Kagome opened her eyes to find a guy staring at her strangely. She felt her anger flare under his scrutiny.
“I said I was sorry. Stop staring,” she huffed out and walked past him.
“Kagome?” he asked. His voice told Kagome how unsure he was on who she was.
She stopped in her tracks and turned around. Her eyes roamed over his face and tried to see if she recognized him from anywhere.
“Do I know you?”
“Oh my god it is you! It’s Hakkaku. From grade school, remember?”
“Hakkaku?” She looked him over, and she slowly saw the traces of the boy she used to know. “Jesus, how have you been!?” She ran and hugged him.
“I’ve been good. I’m on my way to the library to study for a final tomorrow.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hold you up,” she immediately apologized.
“No, I didn’t mean that,” he laughed at her response. Same old Kagome.
“You sure? This is my first set of finals, and I am already dying.”
“Oh, are you a freshman?”
Kagome nodded and said, “Yep.”
“I’m a junior. The guys and I got a track scholarship here. All that tag played off.” He smiled at the memories.
“The guys?”
“Kouga and Ginta. Remember them? They would be so happy to see you! What are you doing tomorrow night? We will be done with our finals, what about you?”
“How is Kouga? I cried so hard when he left, but don’t tell him that! I swore I would never tell him. He wanted me to be strong, so I did. Sorry, I don’t mean to ramble, I’m just really tired. But to answer your question, yes, I’m free. Are you sure they’ll want to see me? It’s been so long.”
“Are you kidding!? They’d love to see you. Give me your number and I’ll text you our address. We can order a pizza.” Hakkaku smiled and handed her his phone. She entered in her phone number, and smiled brightly at the invitation.
“I’m in.”
“Great, see you tomorrow!”
Kagome waved goodbye and walked in the direction of her dorm room. Hakkaku watched her walk away with a sentimental smile on his face. It was such a twist of fate that he would bump into her after all this time. The guys would be ecstatic. Especially Kouga.
He continued one his way, finally seeing the library in the distance. Instant relief flooded his senses as the heat from the building enveloped him, warming his body from the cold. Ginta walked over to him with three cups of coffee in his hand. Hakkaku grabbed one from him, and eagerly took a sip.
“Kouga got us a study room on the third floor,” Ginta said as a way to greet his friend.
“Awesome. You will never believe who I ran into,” Hakkaku said, pushing the elevator button to go up.
“Who? Ayame?” Ginta asked.
“No, not her. Kagome Higurashi.”
“Kagome Higurashi? Hmm...Kagome...Kagome…,” Ginta was thinking back through all the people he met through the years. His eyes widened as he comprehended who that was. “Kagome! From elementary school? Holy shit, how is she doing?”
“She’s a freshman here. I invited her over tomorrow night to catch up,” he whispered as they exited the elevator to be respectful of other studying students.
“Kouga is gonna flip,” Ginta whispered back.
“That’s what I said,” Hakkaku replied. “What room is Kouga in?”
“312,” Ginta answered quietly, looking at the room numbers. They walked along the carpeted hallway until the duo came across the room Kouga was in. The door to the room was opened a crack, and they walked in to see Kouga writing equations on the expo board the room provided.
“It's about time you two got here! Where’s my coffee?” Kouga asked, turning around.
Ginta handed Kouga his coffee while Hakkaku set his backpack down on one of the chairs. He pulled out the study sheet and his binder from the class to spread along the table.
“Did you print out the mock exam?” Hakkaku asked his friends.
“Yeah I did. Check my backpack,” Kouga answered and pointed to the black bag in the corner of the room.
“Guess who Hakkaku saw today!” Ginta excitedly said, sipping from his coffee cup.
“Who?” Kouga asked, not looking away from the expo board, trying to work out one of the practice problems.
“Just an old friend. We all go way back,” Ginta answered, eyeing Kouga carefully to see if his expression would change.
“Remember Sister from elementary school?” Hakkaku asked.
Kouga froze and turned around to look at them.
“Kagome? What about her? You saw her!?” he managed to choke out.
“Oh she is a freshman here. I just bumped into her on the way to the library, literally.”
“What was it that you said? That you were going to ‘marry her one day’ and she was ‘your girl,” Ginta recalled.
Kouga blushed at the memories. “She probably doesn’t even remember us. I was just a stupid kid,” he attempted to redeem himself.
“Oh really? So if she did remember us, you wouldn’t want to catch up with her?” Hakkaku smirked at Kouga.
“Why?”
“No reason. I just invited her to our place tomorrow night for dinner. Hope that won’t be an issue,” he mischievously smiled.
Kouga stared at his two friends in shock. He couldn’t believe it. After all this time, he found his Kagome again. He remembered how sweet and kind she was when he needed a friend at the new school. They would have the best times playing games at recess. Back then he had a silly crush on her, but it was nothing real. He wondered what kind of woman she grew into, and if she still had some of the personality he remembered fondly.
A few moments passed in silence with Ginta and Hakkaku staring at their friend, waiting for him to say something, anything.
“Does she remember me?” he finally asked.
Hakkaku smiled and answered, “She definitely does.”
And just for a moment, Kouga’s heart skipped a beat.
