Thanks for the poll anon! I took the liberty to add a couple more 'other' options that I was curious for.

The kocos' stories just make me cry. For tens of thousands of years, Cyberspace held not only their memories and dreams, but their regrets, as well. Most of these are about separation, the fear that they had lost someone and would never see them again: a mother who never found her children, a girl who never confessed her feelings to the boy she loved, troops that got separated during the heat of battle, a pilot whose hero never returned...
Holding onto these regrets for tens of thousands of years. Until three very nice people came along who could understand them, and one other very nice person who was physically capable of doing the leg work to assist them.

I love this. I LOVE this scene! Because Amy's not in any pain, she's just going about her day, she completely forgot she's still in trouble and needs saving, and so does Tails. She just sees people in need and can't figure out why Sonic doesn't want to help. And Sonic, who normally wouldn't have a problem wrangling children and stopping to help people (I mean, he did stuff like that in Unleashed and Black Knight, right?) is just so worried about his friends, it's tearing him up inside to see them as ghosts, and it's frustrating him to have to stop for anything else.
It's actually a good thing he had this conversation with Amy and got to see some of what was going on with the kocos early on. Because the reason Sonic was willing to go along with Amy on helping the kocos was because she has "weird insights" and he trusts her instincts. If it had been Knuckles first, he and Sonic would have been butting heads the whole time. Sonic would have been all, "You knucklehead, we can't keep stopping like this, what about Tails and Amy?" and Knuckles insisting he was fine, and what was wrong with Sonic, why was Sonic being the stupid one here, and it would have been a battle of wills between them.
The only option that would have been better for Sonic might have been to put Tails first, so Tails could explain what was going on. But from a story perspective, the progression from Amy to Knuckles and then Tails worked to give the players a chance to figure it out on our own before giving away the answer.

After finishing Pokémon Scarlet and Sparks of Hope (at least for the time being), I finally got to play Sonic Frontiers, and I must say, it's been quite a bizarre experience. Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad game. Not by any stretch. But the architecture of the game certainly feels a bit weird. How do I put it, it's as if the game's world was both too empty and too full at the same time, if you see what I mean. Like, the conversations between Sonic and his friends (and Sage) were pretty delightful, but in the end, they were quite few and far between. And a lot of them boiled down to "wow, look at those ancient ruins ! I wonder what happened ?". I wouldn't call it meaningless, but the overworld certainly lacks substance... Anyway, it still was a pleasant - if only a little lackluster - adventure. I've been fan of the blue hedgehog for quite some time now, but it actually was the first title I've got the chance to play*. And really, it makes quite a charming impression. The bosses were easily the most exhilarating part of the game, though. The Titans, obviously, but also most of the Guardian mini-bosses (Sumo has to be my favourite ; fighting those guys was hilarious). And as a big fan of Evangelion, you can bet I really dug their esthetic. I have some gripes about the game, of course, but all in all, there only were two things I was truly disappointed or frustrated with (aside from the whole "one upgrade at a time" thing). First of, I wish we had some sort of Koco settlement acting as a hub between the different island, instead of simply finding the Elder and the Hermit standing there out in the open in some random corners of the overworld. I feel like it would really help tie the setting in a more organic way, as well as making it easier for the player to get invested in those little guys’ story. It could even get livelier and livelier the more Kocos you bring back, unlocking more and more features as you progress, in the same way as the Waddle Dee Village in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Really, I think that would have been neat. Secondly, why couldn’t we have some sort of marker indicating exactly where Sonic is above the ground when he is in the air ? I wasn’t even done with the first island that I already was tired of failing a platforming section just because I couldn’t tell when I was supposed to pound to land properly... Still, for my first time playing a Sonic game, I had quite a blast. Now if only they could port Unleashed to the Switch... Speaking of, I wish that Frontiers had gone more in depth regarding that game’s place in the lore. I mean, Unleashed established that there is some sort of symbiotic relationship between Sonic’s planet and the Chaos Emeralds, and yet, it doesn’t even factor in the Emeralds’ origins. It’s also interesting to see how the Starfall Islands were named after Greek deities when we already have Dark and Light Gaia... Anyway, thank you for listening to my divagations. It’s always a pleasure to write my thoughts down on this site. See ya !
* Technically, I could have played Forces, but I simply couldn’t stand the thought of that one being my first...

Sensitive/trigger warning:
I get tired of people asking, "why are the koco children carrying bombs?" Because it's a war zone, dude! You know anything about war? Do a little research, find out what the local children did during the Vietnam War.
War leaves no innocents.
