Japan's current greatest soap opera, Avataro Sentai Donbrothers! It's not just a Tsubasa episode, but a Sononi episode, more importantly! What shall come of this incredibly turgid passion play of a dog and a condor that I just simply cannot stop watching? What's Murasame-kun's deal? And most importantly, will Haruka attain her driver's license?! Only one way to find out~!
Spoilers, I guess...
-Ah,
-"How do love work???" I've been asking myself that for years, Miss.
-Ohhhhhhhhhh... I forgot about... the penguin.
-You'd better be holding out, Jirou.
-Here we see Sonoza, evolving into a master swordsman just like a manga.
-...or, I suppose Murasame just needs some time to himself, that's wonderful of him.
-"Mother, I crave violence."
-I've actually been doing the dance in my off time, it's really difficult but fun to try and get right.
-Oh that's cute, Haruka's helmet has an oni on it :)
-Oniga Mirai!
-Is the town we're in called "Oniga"? Mirai, Mirai, Mirai... Timeranger?
-Ohhhhh, Haruka's got Mad Racer Baron drivin', don't she?
-...I mean, Naoto's actor is in Geats so I'm not exactly surprised...
-Oh yeah, Haruka's an adult now. Trust me, it ain't getting any easier.
-Ohhhhh, I feel that Haruka. I'm 21 and I still don't wanna get my license. My permit is gonna expire soon too...
-OH MY GOD, HARUKA YOU KILLED THE LADY IN THE TOMORROW RESEARCH JACKET
-Oh, she's alive
-Oh hey Tsubasa! I forgot, you were the reason I was so excited for this episode.
-"Murasame! Kill him!"
-Nooooo, my blorbos are fighting!
-SAN SHARK!
-Ohhhh, he down
-Hello, Sononi.
-"The blorbo from my show is dying. If I cannot see his progress climax in a happy ending, then I shall write his death with my own feather quill instead of Sir Inoue's!"
-Can't do it, huh?
-Even when doomed to die, he still thinks so hard about her.
-Wait, you can't see?
-Sononi, no, don't do that.
-SONONI WHAT THE FUCK
-INOUE
-Oh hey, that's Hiroyuki Matsumoto! He played Nephrite in the live action Sailor Moon show and Gamel in OOO!
-Both shows by Yasuko Kobayashi and appearing in an episode that's a tribute to a Sentai also by Kobayashi, funny that.
-Braceless.
-Haruka, did you learn how to drive from Spongebob?
-Very professional, sensei!
-If only we had walkable cities all over the world, smh
-She's a bird, Tsubasa.
-You don't know, huh?
-Blind Doggy
-Murasame-kun doesn't stand for catfishing.
-"Mother, why has my friend betrayed me? :("
-Don't think! Feel!
-Sounds like absolutely horrendous advice for driving, but
-YOU WEREN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE GOING BACKWARDS OMFG
-Tsubasa was starstruck, huh?
-How kind of him.
-I really have to wonder how Murasame-kun's viewing all this.
-Shark attack-!
-Pachelbel's Canon?
-STAB
-OH SHIT HERE COMES SEYAMA
-You can't call the cops! He IS the cops!
-Okay Sononi, you're kinda making up for all that.
-OH HI TSUYOSHI
-Your wife has an umbrella and a car, doesn't she? ...on second thought, it looks pretty terrible out there, I'd wanna stay home too.
-Hello Crane Lady! That other bird (literal, and metaphorical by "woman" slang definition) from Ideon Tsubasa's entangled with got stabbed and clawed!
-Tsubasa's so desperate to be with Natsumi again, he just "hugs" her without a second thought...
-Yeah, you feel bad, huh Sononi?
-OH THE DOG CAN SEE NOW
-Ooooooh, he's mad!
-Yeah, that's totally reasonable
-And so the dog and bird run off into the storm.
-AND HARUKA'S STILL FUCKING DRIVING
-HARUKA I WAS KIDDING WHEN I SAID "MAD RACER BARON" ARE YOU ON FUCKING CRACK
-Y'know, there were probably like a bajillion other ways you could've gotten that info out of him.
-YOU FUCKING RAN HIM OVER YOU MONSTER
-ONI SISTER!
-"She slammed that car into you. Kill her harder."
-Drive-by! Hit the deck!
-This is fantastic.
-"Mother. I must recharge my batteries. It is nap time."
-Ohhhhh, that's not good. Seyama got the sword.
-Hello, Miraiki!
-Oh, everybody's here!
-Hello, Tarou! Your show has not had you in it yet today!
-Shinichi, Jirou!
-Yeah nice headbutt InuBrother. Totally knocked somebody out.
-LET'S GO, SONONI!
-Daaaaamn, you got him!
-Okay, okay, okay!
-Okay! Okay!
-Taken out of a dramatic moment by time
-Oh shit, time warp.
-Oh, never mind!
-We're just...
-Doing this now!
-That was fruitless!
-Okay!
-"I'll serve you this time instead!"
-Ninja Dog now has Ninja Shark!
-"Kill Crane Lady, and your one true love will return."
-Ohhhh, her eyes be glowin'
-Good on you this episode Sononi, you were great even if you didn't get to really fight today.
-Haruka can now drive!
-Legally.
-"RUN MY COMPANIONS!"
-Christmaaaaas~!
-Wait
-OH MY GOD, THE NOTO ARE SANTA
-Like
-Collectively.
-That's very nice of them :)
-Hahaha! Christmas Festival is coming soooooon~!

Note
While I have never fully watched a season why inoue is the head writer, Donbrothers is very good in my opinion.
Doesn't help that Taro and Sononi are basically having a Romeo-Juliet style romance.
Sononi: Even though I must kill you, my mind, heart and soul are consumed by you.
*Taro.exe has crashed so heard that everyone thought he had died again*
I should note that they also have a duet that is basically their theme when the two are together.
While I think he could have some very good ideas, I think that he works best when he is actually restrained and not given complete rein over the work.
Like, for example, in the case of Kamen Rider 1, which he had co-written with Hiroshi Fujioka (who would probably be not amused if he went and butchered his character). I also hear about how good Agito is, and he had co-written that with Yasuko Kobayashi. Donbrothers seems to be the first project that he worked on solo that seems well received across the board.
I think what really irks me about his writing is his romantic plotlines, which tend to put me off for one reason or the other, especially when they involve love triangles. I could tell you now that once the whole plot with Tsubasa and Miho/Natsumi and Tsuyoshi got going, I would've dropped the show like a hot potato.
And... also, I think you meant Sonoi, the one who has heated drama with Tarou? I've seen enough of them on my dash to know that much, lol

okay i should do this properly before i finish kiramager
i feel like i definitely didn't pay as much attention to shinkenger as i could have because whenever i watch anything with didi i spend half the time making horse noises into the microphone instead of watching whatever we're streaming. that being said shinkenger is really good it's so good
the characters are really interesting and unique without being too over the top i think like. ryunosuke seems like the silliest guy when you start watching but he spends a lot of time acting fairly seriously when he's not wrestling chiaki or genta in the background of shots.
i thought the team dynamic was pretty much perfectly balanced like we talked about this a lot at the time but having the token funny guy be takerus childhood bestie was perfect because takeru not being as harsh on him for acting sillay as he might have been on the others meant that personality niche was filled out while making him more human if that makes sense. since that's still early on where takeru hasn't really opened up a lot yet
speaking of takeru is a really good character he's soooo like. HE'S A NICE BOY and god's strongest autism warrior. i was worried from the first couple of episodes that he would have had some of the issues i had w/ tarou dbros (like him being much more competent than the others and the narrative rarely letting him be in the wrong because of that) but i think those fears were assuaged pretty quickly cuz you realise pretty quickly why he's holding them at arms length even if you don't understand the full picture until episode 48. his growth is really good i think and also like i said before the scenes where genta is going silly mode and ryunosuke is like "tonosama please let me kill this guy" only to turn around and see takeru like 😂 are sooooo endearing
i really liked that they did all the character focused episodes in pairs i thought that was smart since it lets you get in not only more character development but also really solidifies how the one on one dynamics are which was a strength of this team
that being said not a lot of the motw were overly memorable but that's not really something that's that important for a show with a really heavy meta plot so i can forgive that
villain wise dayuu was by far the standout for me she was incredible. like her backstory was crazy. the reveal that she was keeping that guys soul trapped in the shamisen for all that time was crazy. i liked that she was pretty calm and composed despite having all that hate and rage boiling just under the surface. i like what kobayashi did with her and mako where she takes character motivations that might be a little misogynistic to have on their own (mako wanting to be a wife/mother & dayuus whole miss havisham thing) and really fleshes them out and makes them real. i was never really sure what to make of her relationship with doukoku again cuz I was too busy pretending to be a horse but i do think it made sense the way she reacted towards him given what had been established about her character even if it was unhealthy for her & i think her breaking the shamisen to overflow the river for the finale was like. kind of a perfect plot point in the way that it was set up as well as being the climax of her character arc
also i don't get to say this about m/f relationships much but i thought her dynamic with juuzo was craaazy. i don't think i was attached to juuzo as most people i know but he was a good foil for takeru esp after the kaoru reveal. he would have been prettier with different facial hair but idk maybe i would have felt differently if id watched the show when it came out
i couldn't really tell if kaoru was something that they'd planned from the start or that they thought of later i think i would have to rewatch it because in retrospect it does make some things read different (like takeru training really hard to use the big sword) but again maybe id have picked up on the foreshadowing more if i hadn't been neighing. i thought it was a pretty smart move to have her be very similar to takeru personality wise because it means you can endear people to her despite not having the time to dedicate to fleshing out her character much. i liked that the shinkengers did seem to genuinely like her as a person (probably for the same reasons) and that that arc was driven by their love & loyalty towards takeru rather than a disdain for kaoru.
im obsessed with her and takeru planning the adoption thing btw you know they both know exactly how funny that is and how mad it would make tanba but neither of them are going to say it out loud. didi said at the time that any other writer would have had them get married to do that plot point and it would have been weird but fortunately kobayashi is the funniest to ever have done it. and i know kaoru leaves at the end of the show but to me they're like siblings now
idk if i have more to say tbh i didn't even think i had this much. that's a lot of paragraphs. um i never mentioned kotoha at any point but she's like a little sister to me i want to take her to pet goats at the zoo. takeru is a girl to me. shinkenger is a good show. ryunosuke slayed
Tumblr media
thanks bye
WE FINISHED SHINKENGER...
final thoughts
shinkenger has the first female red ranger but it's not the one you're thinking of

BLACKSTAR~Kobayashi Tarou, Blackstar Theater Starless English Trans-lyrics
Tumblr media
These are my English trans-lyrics for BLACKSTAR by Kobayashi Tarou from Blackstar Theater Starless.
Original translation: Hues {https://bluehourtranslations.blogspot.com/2019/11/blackstar.html}
Additional TL help from:
@maichiruhanabira @dangereuse-liaison
Download Lyrics
No one wished on a star You dance off, kiss off, go off Get down with your bad self The barbed wire’s been covered in rust so long No stars in sight, left in the sky, painted black as night See, heaven’s just a rumor, so ring it’s door like, ding-dong You dance off, kiss off, go off Get down with your bad self A dream? What’s that? Is it something good? Love? More like guessing more than you should So, hope? Freedom? Soon they’ll begin, to be lost to heaven Laughing at the losers with no way To defend themselves from all the pain Can’t protect (woah), their plain necks (woah), they’re all just big jerks So, go and raise your voice, falling star Take a shot and make a shooting star No dreams (woah), BLACKSTAR (woah) Now try, shooting right through, the darkness this endless night Unmoving bars that are keeping you here locked Deep down inside, the dark of night, with no sound in sight If this place is Hell, bring it on, time keeps moving like, tick-tock So close, your eyes, your ears, and don’t, do it wrong There, is no reason, to get along Keep smashing, all that crazy, nonsense ‘til it’s gone You dance off, kiss off, go off Get down with your bad self Even if there’s one, day you get tripped up And everyone, laughs just go and crush This insane world, that you thought you knew, since it’s what you’re used to A two-faced sneer looking back at you Is the only reflection in view Just go break (woah), all the fake (woah), things in the mirror Breaking every promise left and right The future is in the dark of night No dreams (woah), BLACKSTAR (woah) Now try, shooting right through, even my own heart this time You dance off, kiss off, go off Get down with your bad self You dance off, kiss off, go off Get down with your bad self You dance off, kiss off, go off Get down with your bad self A dream? What’s that? Is it something good? Love? More like guessing more than you should So, hope? Freedom? Soon they’ll begin, to be lost to heaven A back alley with cracks everywhere In ruins without light left to spare They have high (woah), stacks of white (woah), feathers all around Turn your back on salvation, instead Smash solitude, keep looking ahead No dreams (woah), BLACKSTAR (woah) That’s right, don’t stop putting up a fight, just keep, running No dreams (woah), no truth (woah), no hope (woah), no luck (woah) So, go and raise your voice, falling star Take a shot and make a shooting star No dreams, BLACKSTAR Now try, shooting right through, the darkness this endless night Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh
Notes:
So, I found a more accurate translation and redid something in almost every line of the lyrics. Some key changes:
-The song is most likely imperative. This means I removed “I” statements.
-The beginning I have realized is probably supposed to be “nobody here has wished on a star” instead of “don’t wish on a star.” I say this because the chorus refs this line with “No wish, BLACKSTAR” as in “there are no wishes at BLACKSTAR.” Unfortunately, to make this work in English, there just isn’t a way to keep the syllable count in the first line. Luckily, the singer drags “no” out, so you can insert “no one” and it won’t sound too off.
-However, “no wish, BLACKSTAR” alone doesn’t work in English. Being grammatically correct is more important to me than referencing the first line in the song, so I changed it to “No dreams, BLACKSTAR” as it’s easy to infer “there are no dreams at BLACKSTAR” verses if it were left “there are no wishes at BLACKSTAR” (this is largely because dreams is plural and wish is not. The song seems to want to use a collective wish, like “the wishes of everyone at BLACKSTAR,” but you can’t just say “no wish” like that.
-”No dream, no truth, no hope, no luck” has been made “no dreams” but the others were left. This is similar to the above statement, but it’s because you can’t talk about a collective dream  of multiple with just “no dream.” You could say “there is no dream at BLACKSTAR,” but it sounds off. It’s not wrong, but “there are no dreams at BLACKSTAR” clearly sounds better. And, given how most people at BLACKSTAR have given up on their own individual dreams, making it collective doesn’t make sense. However, a collective hope and luck works, so those were left as is. A collective “truth” is debatable and I struggled with this one, but given the plot and how multiple characters are trying to find out “the truth” about what is going on at BLACKSTAR, having ti be collective or singular works, so I left it as is.
-I don’t like “you dance off, kiss off, go off” since “kiss off” has a very unclear meaning, but I think if I changed it, people would kill me, so I left it as is.
-”get down wish your bad self” I changed as I did in the original lyrics to “with.” A recent official video they changed the subs to “with” so it’s possible it was just a typo, or it could have been a (poor) reference to how “wish” is used throughout the song.
There were other line changes, but those are the most critical (and probably controversial) ones.

I started Love Is Hard For Otaku last night and I'm on episode 8 now. I haven't watched anime in a long time so something as short and sweet as this is perfect. I think Narumi and Hirotaka are so cute and her friendship with Hana is sweet af.

the bakarina anime is done! it’s just a drop in the ocean that is the otome isekai genre so these are some recs + what you need to know about them. i just listed most of my favs otherwise it’d be too long :p
in no particular order. includes some non-isekai ones too. needless to say most of these aren’t completed yet
my next life as a villainess: all routes lead to doom
using this to plug that there’s more bakarina content in the form of light novels, manga and 3 spin-offs
an observation record of my fiancee - a self-proclaimed villainess
told in the pov of prince cecil, whose fiancee bertia straight up tells him she’s a villainess of an otome game from her past life
if you ever wonder what jeord from bakarina might be thinking half the time, this is probably close. cecil is the same kind of prince who initially finds things bored and predictable until they met the mc
the things cecil would get up to for bertia? hoo boy
also the way the mangaka draws hair is addicting to look at
the villainess cecilia silvie doesn’t want to die so she decided to crossdress
the title speaks for itself~ after remembering an otome game she played in her past life, cecil (previously cecilia) is now the one capturing the hearts of the academy ladies instead
it’s fairly new so there’s not much of it yet :c but it’s pretty interesting
the original otome game had a whole rpg combat system going on and i’m hyped to see how it’s gonna lead the story
the Angelique vibes are strong in this one
the villainess wants to marry a commoner
isabella used to play an otome game in a past life, but she was really only interested in a side character named ursch. and then one day she finds him in her mansion garden
her past life self is such a mood - i too have 100% otome games in hopes of side characters getting hidden routes but alas
definitely deserves the ‘video game’ tag. isabella can see status screens and character stats/skills etc, and all the gacha rewards and grinding transferred over after her reincarnation. she’s the isekai female protag we’ve always wanted
seriously the main ship is too op for their own good aha
deathbound duke’s daughter
in a past life, erika only managed to finish 2.5/7 scenarios of an otome game thanks to an unlucky encounter with knife-kun. with the different flags of her impending doom approaching, she takes things into her own hands years before the game events start
very fantasy-oriented (the most on this list) and pretty action-packed, once you get past the game exposition in the first 3? chapters
the world building is brilliant, from the hafan mages to the aurelian alchemists, and there’s beasts and wands and spells and dnd stuff sprinkled in
the cast has quite interesting dynamics and interwoven plotlines, and they’re all dorky in their way :>
beware of the villainess
melissa remembers a novel from her past life and desperately tries to cut off contact with the male leads, but they still make her life hell & she rages
she’s just so done with everyone and you can’t help but relate to her
definitely the funniest on this list XD melissa and her reactions takes the cake but even the shit characters are hilarious in their own way
there’s also a lot of parodies to memes etc & best of all, there’s cussing. all the shits and fucks. a whole lot of it
it’s great
death is the only ending for the villainess
penelope wakes up as the villainess from a game she’d been playing in her past life, only right now it's on the hardest difficulty where death is literally everywhere. thus she tries, well, not dying
what’s cool about this is that penelope has access to the original game system. she can see menus, choice options etc. the male leads even have affection percentages floating above their heads :> which is always cool to see (and what i’m a sucker for)
but it’s definitely one of the darker ones on this list. iirc there’s depictions of violence, abuse, drugs and then some. just a fair warning
the daughter of albert house wishes for ruin
upon realizing that she’s the villainess from a past-life otome game, mary decides to stay as one. chaos ensues
i love this manga so much, everyone is so quirky and there’s something to laugh about on almost every page. the story almost feels self-aware of itself and just lets the characters do whatever. like ride bikes
addie is so cute ;o;
it’s definitely something everyone should experience
i’m a villainess daughter so i’m going to keep the last boss
one of the finished ones!
post-annulment, aileen pulls a Lisa Tepes and asks the demon king claude to marry her. he refuses. hijinks ensues
mostly on the fantasy side, as it builds on the world of the monsters
the cast is pretty fun! aileen’s smart, funny and pretty competent in her own right. plus she and claude are positively adorable together
milady just wants to relax
post-annulment, ronia decides to open a cafe in the countryside. it later becomes the frequent hangout of a beastmen mercenary group, who are intensely feared by the townsfolk
well... beastmen. that’s all you need to know /wink
okay, that aside, it’s just as chill as the title suggests. ronia slowly makes friends she can trust, and the beastmen find a second home in the only cafe that’s willing to accept them. it’s pretty wholesome
the banished villainess! living the leisurely life of a nun making revolutionary food
despite actively trying to change her ‘villainess from a past-life otome game’ fate since childhood, elizabeth gets annulled, her noble title stripped, and is sent to a church in a neighboring kingdom. she enjoys it more than expected, despite the appearance of the ever watchful leonid
there’s plenty of 21st-century food like sandwiches, cotton candy leonid’s muscles <3
the entire cast is lovable, and can chris get an f for all the heart attacks leonid keep giving him
seduce the villain’s father
yereninovica (or just yerenica) realizes that she’s in the world of a novel she read in her past life, but as the aunt of said novel’s mc. after thwarting a kidnapping that’s basically the mc’s origin story, she takes it upon herself to also prevent the tragic death of emperor belgoat
a bit different since it switches the roles around (side character x side character) and goes into the “parent generation” of the original work
there’s also an interesting bit where the world seems to recognize her as a hijacker, and where that takes her, we’ll see in due time :o:
plus the way yeni habitually calls him ‘father’ cracks me up every time
transferred to another world but i’m the savior of an otome game
after a ritual gone wrong, “yamada tarou” (fake name) is stuck in the world of an otome game. the only way back is with a magical ring, normally obtained after becoming the lover of one of the male leads. he of course says no i’m going adventuring but the game doesn’t like that
it’s absolutely hilarious - the leads treat our mc like a heroine, and there’s a lot of otome tropes that are called out on/parodied. like the seiyuus’ names oh my god
tarou’s reactions are great and his appraisal skill is the funniest thing alive
endo and kobayashi’s live commentary on the villainess
in modern japan, endo and kobayashi start their playthrough of an otome game, which becomes a bit glitchy and odd. they discover that siegward, a male lead in the game, can hear what they’re saying. they use this chance to finally give lisolette a happier ending
much of the story’s focus is on the characters slowly warming up to lisolette, and a bit on endo/kobayashi’s irl relationship. despite being the primary drive of the story, lisolette herself hardly moves the plot - if you know what i mean
regardless it’s undeniably adorable
tearmoon empire
no isekai, more of time travel? chronoskimming?
mia wakes up 10 years in the past after being sentenced to death. now afraid of guillotine-kun, she strives to solve the issues in her kingdom that had previously led to her doom
a bit similar to bakarina in terms of concept: avoid death flags, unknowingly recruits the people she meets into her little saintess cult. the misinterpretation is very strong, and in brilliantly funny ways
it has really fun narration ngl especially in the light novel
of course, i’ll claim palimony!
to prepare for her annulment, yulia starts scheming recording her fiance’s meetups with the heroine to use as evidence. if you’re gonna lose a suitor, might as well get some money out of it, right? along the way she gets involved with rudonik, one of the male leads
no reincarnation. rather than an otome game, the villainess story comes from a book written by a side character, and the “heroine” just decided to play it out in real life
the cast together is a riot, and it’s entertaining to watch yulia only think in profits and every connection she can make to achieve it
the villainess’ slow prison life began with her broken engagement
no isekai, just a plain old villainess
post-annulment, rachel is sentenced to imprisonment. which she enjoys and is thoroughly, hilariously prepared for
everyone’s a little afraid of rachel and for good reason. it’s better to find out yourself through the LN or manga, but let’s just say that even the king doesn’t want to deal with her XD
the holy grail of eris
now this one is interesting, putting the villainess trope into a mystery ghost story. that said, no isekai either
our innocent heroine constance attends a party and encounters scarlet, an executed villainess from ten years ago. a body possession and some public embarrassment later, they decide to team up to solve the mystery that might be behind scarlet’s death
i mean, ghost villainess? sign me up
+ some honorable mentions
i favor the villainess (the heroine goes for the villainess- girls? girls? yes)
a bellicose lady got reincarnated (a delinquent reincarnates as a heroine; what a concept :o unfortunately there’s not a lot of english content for it yet)
it seems i got reincarnated into a yandere otome game (i like that the mc actively makes it so that game can’t ever happen the way it should; plus, yanderes are always interesting to study)
inso’s law (modern isekai, and quite cute!)
the reincarnated young lady aims to be an adventurer / holy guardian tiger (similar to deathbound duke’s daughter in that there’s more of a focus on the fantasy aspect)
expecting to fall into ruin, i aim to become a blacksmith (so far the only one with a shounen tag that i like; its main charm is probably the cast and their interactions with each other eliza best girl)
since i’ve reincarnated as the villainess’ father i’ll shower my wife and daughter with love (big big wholesome vibes)
level 99 villainous daughter (severely op lady who takes no shit from the people looking down at her, and regularly thinks about blowing up the academy within the first 4 chapters? hell yeah)
may i please just ask one last thing? (post-annulment, the mc literally punches everyone in the room; it’s great)
this is getting long now oops
edit: i also made a visual-friendly personally-tagged-by-me bookshelf here!

Otanoshimi wa Kore Kara da (お楽しみはこれからだ)
from the final N.Y. Hoshigumi show, “Otanoshimi wa Kore Kara da/You Ain’t Heard Nothin’ Yet!!” (2014)
Lyrics by Hiroi Ouji, composition by Tanaka Kouhei, arrangement by Murase Yasuhisa
Performed by Kobayashi Sanae (Gemini Sunrise), Minagawa Junko (Sagitta Weinberg), Saitou Ayaka (Rikaritta Aries), Matsutani Kaya (Diana Caprice), Sonozaki Mie (Kujou Subaru)
If you’re wondering about the title: “You ain’t heard nothin’ yet” is a line from “The Jazz Singer,” the first full-length “talkie.” “Otanoshimi wa kore kara da” is the way that line has been interpreted in Japanese, but it’s not a direct translation.
Lyrics under the cut
Transcription/romanization by me. I’d appreciate credit if you repost them elsewhere. No reposting to lyric sites/wikis/etc., please.

NON-SPOILER REVIEW Overall: I did enjoy myself. There is a lot of comedy in this one. It’s at least 50 - 60% comedy so everyone is laughing from start to finish. It’s about 80% scripted comedy and 20% improve comedy. It was very entertaining and very enjoyable. We all laughed the entire time. So if you just want to enjoy, laugh, have a good time, you are going to LOVE this stage! It’s just one long Hanamaru (the anime) episode to be honest. My favourite parts of the whole stage were definitely Manba and co’s dynamics and relationship. I really, really loved Sayo and Manba’s relationship and body language and small gestures towards each other throughout the play which really shows how close they’ve gotten. It’s really sad that Sayo is only there for the first Tokyo run because the little things he did for and towards Manba just melted my heart. Also, I really, really loved Manba and Doudanuki’s dynamic in this show too! I absolutely adored how Douda treated Manba this time around. However, personally, that’s not what I want from Touken Ranbu. I want pain, I want fighting, I want history, I want conflict. That does not happen in this stage. So this is not what I wanted. I started to get really bored and I got over the jokes after about 45 minutes into the show (the show is 145 minutes long). They repeat the same group/set of jokes about 10 times, so obviously I got bored of them. I feel like this plot could’ve been done in about 30 minutes. The fact they take the entire 145 minutes for this one simple plot line (it’s a really simple story), it really gets boring in some spots. The lack of fighting (which is less than 10 minutes long for the entirety of the play), the lack of history, the lack of conflict (even between the Touken Danshi!) really got to me and this just wasn’t what I wanted. Like I said, I did enjoy myself and I did laugh throughout and I did have a good time. But when Touken has set this ‘dark, despair, historical, fighting’ theme for so long, you can’t expect us to not expect that this time around, AND when we don’t get it, you can’t expect me not to be bored and disappointed. Which is what I am. Disappointed. Again. Rating: 5/10 (if you enjoy comedy and lighthearted stuff then this’d be about 8/10)

SPOILER REVIEW
Story: The story takes place after the events of the game (see details here). So we follow Chougi joining the gang at the Honmaru, but a lot of the gang are against Chougi and Manbachan (Yamanbagiri Kunihiro) meeting because Chougi is the ‘true’ Yamanbagiri sword. So they try to delay and play tricks so they can’t meet. And we follow those shenanigans.
*
I am going to break this down into three groups: ☆ The Good, × The Bad and △ the Neutral/General/Both-Good-and-Bad Comments! So get ready! I’ll do Good first!
☆ It’s difficult to describe, but I loved Sayo and Manba relationship in this one. There was a lot of body language and actions that showed just how much Sayo cared for Manba. There were many moments when he would sit next to Manba and look at him worried, checked if he was okay. When Chougi was trying to verbally attack Manba, Sayo was right by his side, ready to kick Chougi’s ass. Just the small things Sayo did for Manba throughout this play were just so pure and so adorable to watch. It’s such a shame that he’s only there for the Tokyo Shows because I would love see this development between these two’s relationship.
☆ Another relationship I loved in this one was Doudanuki and Manba. If you remember back in Mitsu/JyoDen, Doudan and Manba were always butting heads, but in this one, Doudan wouldn’t leave Manba’s side. He tried SO hard to protect Manba from Chougi, and he tried to hard to keep Chougi away from Manba throughout the entire play, which just shows how much he care for Manba! It was adorable!!
☆ Dounauki on his own is just so great in this stage series! I love Naoki’s performance of him every time!!
☆ At the end of the play, Manba finally got sent off to be Kiwame’d!! So in the next stage we’ll be getting Kiwame ManbaChan!! I cannot wait!
☆ Being able to see Aoki Jin’s acrobatics again was so good! He’s still got it!
☆ Riki as Nansei was adorable! He was really good at showing the catish characteristics he has! And his cat speech was adorable too!
☆ The Manba VS 6 Touken Danshi fight scene was very impressive on MakiChan’s part and it fit completely. Both MakiChan and ManbaChan could’ve wooped all their asses after all the years of training they’ve both technically done in sword fighting.
△ This is a mix of good and bad but, we cannot deny just how amazing MakiChan is at this point when to comes to sword fighting. His movements and his choreography is so good and such a high level by this point! But this is also a bad thing because... it makes it super obvious just how beginner everyone else (especially Chougi’s actor) is at sword fighting when he’s against them. I could painfully see the difference in their choreography levels, especially when MakiChan had fighting scenes against Chougi, and when he was fighting against 6 of the swords at the same time. Their movements and choreography just looks so mediocre and so clumsy and just don’t flow naturally at all next to him.
△ There were mentions of Ookurikara, Yagen and Jiji throughout the play, so definitely hints they’ll come back in future plays(?). I am excited for Ookuri and Yagen but we all know how I feel about Jiji -_____-
△ Ginga as Gokotai was.... fine. He definitely got the voice and intimidated body language right but... boy’s pretty tall... would’ve been better to find a shorter person?
△ There were no ensemble this time at all.
△ There are no set changes at all. It all takes place at the Honmaru. The set is really big actually! I like how they used all parts of the set, even the upper levels!
△ The umbrellas this time have no names on them! It’s all projection mapped (their names) onto white umbrellas instead this time around.
△ Why are they performing an Autumn/Winter themed play in the middle of summer? The play constantly talks about how Autumn is coming to an end, so why did they perform this in Summer?! That’s hella stupid.
△ I really did enjoy a lot of the comedy parts and I did enjoy my time BUT this isn’t what I wanted from TouStage; this isn’t what I expect from TouStage.
△ What was the point of Maeda playing the narrator in this? And why was it split into chapters throughout the play?
× Because it’s just a comedy that is heavily scripted and nothing major really happens, I see no rewatchability value unfortunately. Once was enough.
× The Opening is very long. It’s a ten minute VIDEO of them fighting and finding Chougi. Why they made it a video instead of actually on stage, I don’t understand. Why it was such a long video? I also don’t understand.
× I strongly feel like they expanded and stretched what could’ve been a 45 minute story into 145 minutes. There was no need for this Chougi vs Manba conflict to go on for the entirety of the the stage. It got very repetitive, and it dragged quite a bit.
× Also the second storyline about Gokotai? It felt very unnecessary and very much a throw away. It wasn’t needed for the point it was used for. It was used to reintroduce and set-up Jiji into the series and how they all miss him and want him back. But we really didn’t need Gokotai for it. In fact...
× ...50% of this cast is entirely unneeded and unnecessary! I have no idea why half of them were there! When they were all gathered on stage, I could easily look at them and pick out who could’ve been straight up removed.
If you had to ask me who actually brought something to the story, I would say: Manba, Chougi, Sayo, Doudanuki, and Nansei. Kento was good for the comedy parts. So literally everyone else you could’ve cut out.
× It bothers me that once again, Suemitsu is just stealing from another idea. The Gokotai storyline is basically from Hanamaru, and of course the Chougi backstory is taken straight from the Game Event (which is not the point that bothers me). He seriously cannot make up his own ideas. He hasn’t written a good stage since TRUMP seriously (K Stage doesn’t count because it’s just a carbon copy of the anime). And WHY is he even back?! Hiden was supposed to be his last one! Everyone said! So WHY is he back? Give other writers a chance!
× It really infuriated me how they waited and expected the audience to applause at certain times. One or two times where it’s expected is FINE but the fact they pause and wait SO many times for the audience to clap was just cringey and ewwy. I understand that some jokes are positioned so the audience claps, but when it’s the amount that it is in this play? No thank you. Just makes the actors look cheap and egotistical.
× The soundtrack is completely forgettable this time around! I cannot remember one single tune that stuck to me. I’m a huge Soundtrack lover so the fact nothing caught my ears and nothing caught my attention nor stayed with me is just.... bad.
× This play seriously made me hate Chougi! I like Chougi in the game but in this? He’s just a pompous, ignorant prick. I walked out absolutely HATING him! How dare he treat Manba and the rest of them like that! Motherf-ker.
× Personally, I found no moving, no emotional, no sad moment in the play this time. That’s bad and boring writing in my opinion.
× I’ve said this many times already but, they repeat the same 4 or 5 jokes about 10 times within the first 75 minutes of the play. That is total overkill. It got old fast, I quickly got bored (the 45 minute point was when it was starting to grate on me).
× There is all of ONE fight scene the entire play, and (I timed it) it takes up less than 15 minutes of the entire play.  And it was glaringly obvious to see the skill level difference between MakiChan and everyone else (in all honesty).
× Another personal thing for me, but I find Kato Sho completely exhausting. He’s so damn loud and so over the top as Ookanehira. He just exhausts me. He’s great as himself but as Ookane? Just no thank you.
× Chougi and Manba don’t meet until the 75 minute part. Which is excessively late. You could’ve had them meet up about 30 minutes in. It really was stretched out too far.
× The theatre itself was freezing as FACK! Absolutely freezing in there!
*
And that’s all! In conclusion, it could’ve been much better and wasn’t what I wanted. But I feel like I say this EVERY TIME. Maybe I really should just stop. Why do I even say I like TouStage when it’s evident I’m disappointed like... every time! *sigh*
