Irish Heritage Month

Today is St. Patricks Day and Typography Tuesday, the perfect time to show off this very fancy Championship Diploma from the Irish Kennel Club.

It is beautifully decorated with knotwork and depicts some of the handsome dog breeds of Ireland: the Irish Setter, Irish Water Spaniel, Irish Terrier, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, and Irish Wolfhound.

This Diploma was earned by the Irish Terrier “Roeside hallah” in November 1957. They don’t mention who showed the dog but we think this could be one of John S. Best’s dogs.

I know that when I was drawing this design, I was listening to a podcast episode about the Yamnaya culture from Tides of History, which is an awesome history podcast and everyone should listen to it and Patrick Wyman is the best.

I also like wolves but at this point I this picture reminds me more about ancient human cultures than wolves.
