It was about time that I got some pattern writing done! 🙌 This weekend I was finally able to finish the pattern for this shawl. I send it to my tech editor today. It's also the pattern I receive the most requests for pattern support on Ironically it's been copied and shared many times by folks with questionable ethical standards and copies have even been sold (for £3 a pop) on eBay. But copyright woes aside that's not the point of today's post An email yesterday really made me chuckle. From someone who had a copy of the pattern and wished to modify the sleeves - in the original the sleeves are short because a) I hate knitting sleeves and b) babies are dribble, chewy little monsters. I explained that there were a ton of helpful pattern notes on Ravelry from people who had done just that - there's over 1000 versions of it now - which is pretty mind boggling in itself. "Ah, but I have walked away from Ravelry" my emailer replied proudly. Explaining in detail her outrage at Ravelrys recent "atrocity". "Then I can't help you" was my response I'll spare you the tirade that followed but the message is pretty clear. You can download a copy of a pattern from anywhere. You can keep a database of every pattern ever created. What you can't recreate is a community of knitters, that wealth of experience, of shared knowledge. Of learning and of willingness to help others.
