KnitCity TO day 1!

2 skeins Confetti speckled cotton from Good Grief yarn co which I bought specifically to make a tank top. The girl who was at the booth had a really cool split colour top in this yarn that I am now considering

1 skein Linen Silk Sock in the colour "Have Fun Storming the Harbour Castle" from Indigo Dragonfly because this colour is right up my alley (grey with indigo and colourful speckles)

A DK fade set from Rose Hill Yarns. I misread the price then was too awkward to put it back (I thought they were 50g skeins and they are 100g!) planning on using the green/red yarns together and then the two blue ones together

Overall great market, it was nice to see so many wonderful vendors there and talk to the dyers and knitters and crafters. I was also incredibly grateful for the quiet room lol.

I’ve knitted many socks - cuff down, toe up, afterthought heel, on double points, magic loop, two at a time... I always revert back to my favourite sock pattern -- Basic Sock by Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. If you want a good first sock pattern, this is it :) 

I came across this project photo on Ravelry.com when I was browsing through projects. I absolutely love pooling -- when the colour has its own life and is full of character. Also, I have two types of needles I knit with when i make socks... one is Knitter’s Pride Karbonz (the double pointed needles shown in the photo... unfortunately not all local yarn shop carry these anymore. Few customers complained about the tips popping off, so these customers pretty much ruined it for all) and two ChiaoGoo Twist (the best flexible cord for knitting two socks on magic loop)

post knit city 2018 - vancouver, bc

I had a good time at knit city this year.

Saturday night, I attended the first trivial night that knit city and pom pom magazine hosted. it was pretty fun :) my favourite part was the song lyrics challenge - the hosts changed the lyrics into knitting related - it was well done. 

Each table had a knitting “celebrity”. Only knitters would recognise and get all giddy over these lovely people. Though being very shy, I didn’t go introduce myself. I just sat in the corner of the room and admired them in a distance - still very exciting for me.

I had a fun time but do question if i would attend again and it’s mostly due to the price of the tickets and the price of the beverages... tickets were $30 each and a standard can of beer (Budweiser and Parallel 49 Trash Panda) were $7.50... almost the same price of a six pack of the same beer instead of one single lonesome can.

I went to knit city at the pne forum Sunday morning. It’s usually quiet during that time. I suggest it if you want to avoid big crowds and easy going about special yarn being sold out on the first day, Sunday is the day to go.
