A (late) piece for dmcweek2024 day 4! I was buzzing to put forward something for the week. Prompt was alt universe.

AU where Eva survived the fire and had to figure out a way forward, believing the twins dead. She becomes an RPG shopkeeper selling wares ranging from antique books to magical goods (Devil May Scry). She's also out for Mundus' blood.

I had...so many more ideas that I'm leaving out to keep this short. It's fun to think how she'd mesh with the cast.

Like! her and Lady. Mother that lost her kid and kid that lost her mother. It writes itself how much unwitting projection can go wrong. And pretty much everything about her, the twins, and Trish :)

In terms of backstory:

After the fire she's alone. Her birth family disowned her long ago. She thinks about revamping the mansion but the idea of staying in that empty space with only memories for company is too much. So she eventually opens a small store.

Starts off paranoid and distant. Still is distant but gets entangled with the local community overtime. Greets people by name and they'll chat about how life has been going. This includes demon hunters and demons and supernatural beings living peacefully; her shop becomes a small safe haven to exchange information to stay safe.

Gets very good at forging protective charms. Haunted by the memory of the enchanted closet, smashed in and empty.

A regular is a schoolgirl who originally came to pick up reserved books for her father but stuck around because hey, this place is quiet and interesting, and the owner serves stellar teacakes. Great place to study. To Mary, Eva's kind, though odd, secretive and a little lonely.

I got inspired by Eva's association with the bangle/bracelet of time and the amulets for her fighting style. It's based around item crafting, like an RPG character slapping on every stat boosting item.

She stitches together different outfits for different needs Cardcaptor style. They're all exceedingly dramatic. It's not clear here but I wanted a bird motif to eventually come through. Phoenix motif, really.

Meanwhile the twins are having a terrible time but they have each other, even if they don't remember they're brothers. I think it'd be sweet if they have a bond anyway. Everyone else thinks they're rivals at best.

(Nelo is Mundus' favourite to toy with as the proud, eldest son. But when he gets rough, Bianco butts in and acts up for Mundus' attention. This gets him sent to solitary confinement; Mundus figured out Bianco hates small spaces and designed an iron maiden for him. Others think Bianco is a brute who acts out for a fight. But that's ok. It means Bianco can keep buying Nelo time.) (When lucid, Nelo despises his own weakness when this happens.)

Summer thrift haul ☀️

This are two thrift hauls combined! Two weeks ago I picked up my friend after work to go eat at the new location of a very delicious Vietnamese place. They're all vegan and the food is superb!! I worked early shift on that day and had time to kill before picking up my friend from her workplace, so I looked what I could do in the meantime. Like it was meant to be a new thrift store had also opened very close to my friends work place!! It was so hot on that day and they even had air con (very rare here). And I found two gorgeous skirts and a purple tshirt.

Actually had to fish the purple shirt out of my laundry basket to take a detail of the gorgeous neckline decoration because I've already worn it multiple times!! (Also could include one picture of me wearing it recently in an outfit). I've also already worn the reddish/pink floral skirt as a dress. The whole outfit I'm wearing with the dress is also thrifted!! Have a second outfit pic here too!

The second black skirt of that thrift haul from a couple weeks ago currently doesn't fit me bbbbbbut how could I leave it behind??? It's way too gorgeous!! The colours and the pattern and the black lace!! I'll make it bigger and even more gorgeous! Just you wait!

Yesterday I went to check out the "end of summer sale" at my two closest thriftstores and found 3 pretty things at both!

First one I got the big shoulder bag. It gives me very artsy vibes with it's woven texture! I also like the toggle closure. Unfortunately one of the straps is fraying, so I'll have to fix that soon. The second lil bag/pouch was just too adorable to leave behind. It's crocheted from dark brown thread with sparkly beads on top. Speaks to my inner moth!! I'm drawn to sparkly things. Just had to have it!! Last thing from the first thrift store yesterday was the black shrug/cardigan (very left corner in the group pic). It's a little basic thing that's perfect for me because I easily get cold (especially on my shoulders and back).

At the second thrift store I found amazing black kneelength pants (they go over my knees). They end in pretty cuffs and have deep pockets!! Unusual for slouchy pants like these. I found another vest (the brown thing to the right in the group pic from yesterday) without sleeves. It's long though - goes over my ass - and has pockets too! It has belt loops but the belt is missing. May add a new one. It's perfect for layering and when my back is cold. Last piece: the red gilet/ vest made from velvet. I couldn't resist that because it's soooo gorgeous but it also doesn't currently fit me and I'll have to make it larger. Oooops. I was trying not to buy more clothes that are projects but alas.

Below is a description of a recurring nightmare I have, in its most vivid form, it contains a brief description of death.

I wake up after being thrown to the cold floor, my head thudding against frozen grass.

I open my eyes and see only darkness, and then a bag is lifted off my head, and the ties on my wrists and ankles are cut.

The blood flows painfully back into my numbed hands and feet, and the light of several fires burns my oversensitive eyes.

I see a form approaching me, beautiful and fair legs run from beneath a kneelength skirt, her bare feet are covered in ash and char to the point of blackness.

I scramble to my hands and knees and charge her, I throw my arms around her waist, still kneeling, and scream, "Please, I love you, I love you, I'll give you everything I've ever had."

I sob into her skirt.

A hand tilts my chin up towards her face, I don't see it beneath her black lace veil, but I know that it's the most beautiful face I've ever dreamt of.

The hand leaves my chin, and my eyes are still fixed upwards, it's then I feel a sharp stab in my chest.

I know that it's my heart, and it's my knife she used. She took it when she had me knocked out.

I feel the warm gush of blood run down my chest from the inside, and I see my vision blackening around the edges.

I reach my hands up weakly, like they're swimming through syrup, and grab her dress. Tears pour down my face in hot tracks, as I whisper, "I love you."
