HIII if you don’t mind sharing, what are your fav klaroline fics? New and old, I’m in need of new reads 🙏
I'm probably not the best person to be doing new fic recs. 🥲 I have sadly not been reading that much Klaroline myself these days. When I do read fic, it's for other stuff. So my recs are either old or new-ish. 😂 But hopefully you can find something to your liking that haven't read yet here.
Buckle up because I took my sweet time with this list, nonnie.
Tumblr media
. Inertia Overcome by @avari20
The first KC fanfic I remember reading the reason why I finally got pulled into the fandom after years of watching TVD as a reasonable spectator (so rly, if you guys can't stand to see me around anymore after all this time, it's this fic's fault for being so good). Honestly one of this fandom's statement works. If you haven't read it yet, please do.
. Timeless by @marvelouskatie
Same as the above. One of the most iconic KC fics of all time imho. The canon AU to end all canon AU. When I first decided to come out of the shadows and create a tumblr and actually start interacting with folks, this was the first fic that was recced to me. I was very grateful then, and now I'm here to pass this knowledge on.
. Picturesque by @supernutellastuff
Honestly of the sweetest, most heartwarming fics I've ever read! It's a human AU that's a How I Met Your Mother sort of adaptation, and honestly the first time I've ever enjoyed HIMYM. I love a good ensemble fic and this is just it! Supernutella is so talented.
. Quiet Light by @definedareasofuncertainty
This fic was WRITTEN FOR ME because of how much I pestered my friend Luiza about Carolijah and this will forever feel like a trophy to my heart. 🥰 It made me feel ALL THE FEELINGS. I hated Caroline, I loved Caroline, I loved my baby Elijah, I hated him, I also hated Klaus (he's such a fucking asshole omfg), but then the end was just DHAGHDDASAS!! You think you're in for a certain kind of story and it turns out to be so much more. It is, deep down, about the brothers, how selfish they are, how they can hurt each other more than anyone, but how they love one another above anything else, even when they want to kill each other (and fall in love with their brother's girl!!!). It's beautiful, like everything Luiza writes, and it genuinely made me cry.
. long limbs and frozen swim by @definedareasofuncertainty
I saw a discussion the other day about how whoever wrote this fic JUST GOT IT, and I have to say I completely agree with the person who made that comment. Luiza just NAILS Caroline's grief and loneliness after her mother's death, how isolating and gut-wrenching it is. Klaus being the person who finds her, who knows exactly what to say without her ever having to spell it out, the one who can truly see her, is so honest too. This fic is sensitive and absolutely beautiful. Luiza's writing is perfection and this is for sure one of my all-time favorites.
. Whisper to me, Help me remember by @lalainajanes
This story reimagines the plot with the "villains" of TO S3 in a way that proves my point that the premise of that season was good, but execution was absolute crap. All of the potential the De Martels had to be incredible antagonists was completely destroyed at the hands of the show writers - but explored to perfection by Laine's much more capable hands. Klaus is freed after 10 years in captivity to find that Caroline had been working with Tristan this whole time in order to take him down - except something is not quite right about that. While you're at it, please read all of Laine's fics! It's a delight.
. Into the Woods by @jinxedwood
I wept when I read this because it's the post-TO canon fic I didn't even know I needed. Caroline's search for a way to stop her twins' merger ends up leading her to someone who's been watching over her on the Other Side. 😭 I thought I'd always rather live in denial when it came to how TO ended, but this fic made my heart so full! Also, jinxedwood's use of fae mythology here was incredible.
. All I Need by @euvixen
This story is HOT. It taught me things about the werewolf AU universe I was not prepared to learn, but I am a much happier person after reading it. It's a canon mates AU that will leave you 🥵🥵🥵🥵 I speak as though the story was merely about the smut, but it's actually much more than that. A TVD S3 reimagine of sorts that is incredibly satisfying. That's my favorite season of TVD, but this is still even better.
. the birth and death of the day by @little-miss-sunny-daisy
Anyone who's known me for a some time knows how this fic was my entire personality for a while there. I'm obsessed with Kelly's writing, and I have this fic on a freaking pedestal. I first started reading it when it was on a six years hiatus, and I was *so* into it I didn't even bother me that it might never get updated because it was so good I was just happy I'd found it. But then my silly comments inspired Kelly to come back to it, finish it, and it has honestly been my greatest accomplishment as a part of this fandom because this is a masterpiece. It's a TVD/Supernatural crossover where Caroline is a step-sister to the Superbros. It's truly, truly epic, with beautiful writing. This could genuinely be a show. It's amazing, just read it.
. this is a harvest by @highgaarden
This, right here, is the perfect Klaroline-within-canon story. This is the story that put my revolt to rest and gave my spirit some much deserved peace where those two are concerned. This is exactly what canon should've been like. I'm not even joking, this is IT. If you'd asked me what I thought the perfect Klaroline development should be like I probably would've said something very vague because I couldn’t explain it, I’m not that great or creative a writer, but now I can just show you this story and let you bask in the amazingness of a fantastic read that will not only keep you thoroughly entertained, but will also be the answer to all the questions you didn't even know you had.
. Paradise Lost by Borzoi
When i grow up, I want to learn how to write like Borzoi. All of their fics are incredible novella-like reads. It's addictive. And this is probably my favorite (it varies though, sometimes I'm in a Parisian Deal era). What happens after Klaus and Caroline sleep together in 5x11, and how they eventually find their way back to each other. It's just one of those stories that you can't stop reading after you start. It's so rich, so deep, so perfectly IC. One of those fics to end all fics.
. The Stubborn Grace of Being Loved Regardless by @helpless-in-sleep One of the modern day classics, if you will. This fic is such a stunning, vivid and delicate picture of Caroline's mind as she was dealing with the consequences of the abuse she suffered at the hands of Damon. She's still human, but she's probably more IC than we've seen her ever on the show when it comes to this. The bond she forms with Klaus is truly incredible too, and speaks a lot of how the two of them really do have a lot in common (even with Caroline still as a human), but it's really the Caroline study part of the story that touches me. The writing is absolutely beautiful as well.
. it takes a while to settle down by theviolinist
This story is a punch to your stomach, but it is PERFECTION in 8k words. It's hot, it's bittersweet, it's SO in character and, in my head, I kinda like to pretend that this is what happened before Caroline married Stefan. lol
. Wanderlust by @bellemorte180 Anybody who was a part of fandom around the time this story was being published can tell you how much of an EVENT it was. There were discussion groups about the mystery. It was so entertaining. Erica's attention to detail and how she wove the little clues throughout the chapters made this a genuine thriller. I particularly some of the side-characters here. It's honestly another fandom staple I think everyone should read.
--
In terms of newer fics that I can rec you, I have two that are on my TBR. One of them is a WIP that I've been slowly going through, and the other one I know was recently finished.
. make them bow by @stars-and-darkness
This was recced to me by two friends recently and I started reading it a while back and thought it was incredible! I have sadly been awful with keeping up with stuff, but just based on the raving reviews and the five chapters I read, I fully believe it to be just as awesome as it seems to be. The writing was so good, and I was just in love with Klaus' voice in this story. It was so reminescent of early-days TVD Klaus, which is by far my favorite Klaus of all. Sexy and dangerous and so smooth. I loved it! Need to get back to it.
. Wolf Club by @Radioactive79
Listen, if you like kid fics, this is absolutely for you. The whole story is narrated by an eight-year-old OC, the daughter of Ray Sutton, the first werewolf Klaus kills when he's trying to start his mass-production of hybrids. She's a little wolf herself, and a while little thing who was subjected to her fair share of child trauma. Klaus has no idea what to do with her, but ends up taking her with him as continues on his journey, and ends up forging a bond with the little girl. I cannot tell you how delicious this story is. It has Klaroline, yes, but for me the little girl is the absolute star of the company. I usually hate OCs, especially children, in fics, but this one is AMAZING. Seriously. The way this story is written is glorious. I can't recommend it enough.

Is there a nip in the air, held off by the cozy sweater Caroline can’t help stealing from Klaus? Is the snow coming down outside the porch of their posh Swiss cabin? The sun is setting over the horizon and the northern lights are shimmering over the horizon. The darkest days of the year have come. Come, hold off the night with us and tell tales of Klaus and Caroline in the snows of New York, in the wilds of Russia,  in the cold bluster of the Highlands. Or perhaps you’ll be fantastical and tell us tales of the winter Fae, or the Snow Queen and the man who melted her heart. Gather by the fire, bring a cup of your drink of choice. It’s time for the Klaroline Winter Exchange…

6. Once the gifts are posted, commenting on your gift is required. Everyone works very hard to make a gift their giftee will love, and it’s very important to be sure they feel appreciated for putting the time into it!
Guidelines for Gifts:
Drabbles:
The minimum word count is a thousand words, but writing more is highly encouraged.
All drabbles should be new. In other words, no continuing previous works that you’ve posted before (that will reveal your secret identity and require your giftee to go back and read old stuff you’ve done to enjoy their gift). You are, of course, allowed to add to the piece after it’s been posted if you want to.
Asking a beta or friend to look over your work is totally fine, just make sure you swear them to secrecy so that your giftee can be surprised ;)
Gif Sets:
Gifsets should include four gifs at minimum.
If you wish, you can include a caption such as a mini-drabble, line of dialogue, or small description. You can also add a full drabble if you want. I doubt anyone will complain :)
Graphics, Manips, Aesthetics, and Moodboards:
Two images minimum for graphics and manips.
Eight panel minimum for aesthetics and moodboards.
Must include a caption, such as a mini-drabble, line of dialogue, or small description. You can also add a full drabble if you want. I doubt anyone will complain :)
Videos:
Length should be a minimum of one minute.
Upload it to YouTube or another video website of your choice and upload it to Ao3. Please also send me the link so that I can queue it up for reveals.
Playlists:
Minimum of eight songs.
Must include a cover, but it doesn’t have to be detailed Art™. Just make sure to have the title.
Do not use someone else’s art as your cover without permission.
Upload to 8tracks, do a shared Spotify playlist, or make a YouTube video playlist with the songs to link.
Original Fanart (drawings, paintings, etc.):
You are a very talented and rare superhuman and I just wanted to make note of that.
Pinch Hitting
A pinch hitter is a fancy way of saying an emergency gifter if someone can’t complete their gift on time. If you would like to lend a hand, please private message me so that I can fling things at you if needed. Just please make sure you have enough free time between November 12 and January 11 to complete the extra gift.

i feel like i never post anymore but i don't think that feeling reflects reality lmaoooo
anyways here are some recent fics i've fallen in love with:
Sidelines (63,086 words)
Anthony Bridgerton/Kate Sharma
Five months later she has a sketchbook full of Anthony, 29, barrister’s hands, arms, and shoulders when Edwina calls her.
“Didi, you know Anthony, the guy I’ve been seeing? I’d really like you to meet him.”
And when she walks into the café, Kate sees a smile that really should not be as familiar as it is, directed at her sweet, innocent baby sister.
notes: oh my god!! the obsession!!!! the anticipation!! anthony & kate most deranged couple
Hallowed Ground (38,747 words)
Caroline Forbes/Klaus Mikaelson
Caroline's trip to Ireland was not going the way it was supposed to. She was expecting stories and myths, and instead finds that some legends are a lot more real than she could have imagined. And hot. Really hot.
notes: do i read klaroline fics specifically for the damon bashing? perhaps not, but it is a bit of a treat when it happens ;) really though, it was the details that got me - fae blood being green bc it doesn't have iron made me actually gasp (i don't read a lot of actual fairy court lit so don't come for me if this is a totally obvious & run of the mill piece of lore okay)
Something Wicked (34,944 words)
Caroline Forbes/Klaus Mikaelson
When Caroline inherited Bloom, she’d expected bridezillas and occasional need for witchery. But her summer is interrupted by the noisy renovations of the tattoo parlor across the street. Then hushed rumors start to float around New Orleans about missing witches and vampires. And where vampires walk, demons follow.
notes: the worldbuilding is just unnecessarily good, and i think it's because it feels very tied to the characters themselves - ex, caroline being constantly underestimated/overlooked despite being extremely capable... the way her magic is portrayed in this fic just feels like a natural extension of that
No Charm Equal (77,118 words)
Anthony Bridgerton/Kate Sharma
"Bridgerton, you shouldn't be looking for the diamond. You should be looking for a woman. One ready to be a viscountess, and a mother. One not caught in the flurry of her debut and end of her childhood. One with experience, a sense of responsibility–”
“You’d have me shop the shelf rather than the dancefloor? Tell me, do you have someone in mind already? A spinster cousin? Has Lady Danbury tasked you with finding a match for a wallflower she has taken under her wing? How desperate is the girl?”
notes: yet another fic centered on the contrast between independence & responsibility (love how eloise was incorporated into the discussion !!!) and daphne's ye olde sex ed lmaooo

20 questions for fic writers
thanks @ninzied for the tag, this was fun!
How many works do you have on ao3? 18
What's your total ao3 word count? 115,767. i really need to port over a fic from ffn.
What fandoms do you write for? klaroline, kastle, kovacs x ortega (idk ship name)
Top five fics by kudos: oh this is surprising! Cold-brew (klaroline fae au), here's to the afterlife (klaroline mixed with some mayan crossing the veilness), We're the moth, we're the flame (klaroline smut), To cast a shadow (klaroline with native american mythos), You've got your stories all twisted up in mine (klaroline heist au)
Do you respond to comments? yes, unless i am having A Day
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? this kastle fic. i was so fucking pissed about tps2. i never posted it to ao3, probably because of the bitterness lol.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? any of my other fics have a good ending
Do you get hate on fics? not to my face
Do you write smut? i have, it's not the easiest for me that's for sure
Craziest crossover: uhhh nothing, though i would wager You've got your stories all twisted up in mine is ostensibly a 'Lies of Locke Lamora' fanfic in klaroline trappings
Have you ever had a fic stolen? no
Have you ever had a fic translated? no, these questions are for actual writers lmao
Have you ever co-written a fic before? you don't understand how badly i want to do a collaborative fic. i just think it would be fun.
All time favorite ship? eh? i kinda like them all equally
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will? original!klaroline. needs an actual plot and a history degree i do not have.
What are your writing strengths? atmosphere
What are your writing weaknesses? actually writing lmfao
Thoughts on dialogue in another language? feels pretentious if i write it, fine if others do. ahhh gotta love self double-standards.
First fandom you wrote in? klaroline was my first.
Favorite fic you've written? i am not sure? there's something simple and as close to what i dreamed it to be in my kovacs x ortega fic. maybe that?
tagging some klaroline peeps to spread around @stars-and-darkness @kirythestitchwitch @morningstargirl666 @austennerdita2533 you guys will have a lot more to go off of!

Be Nice
Happy Birthday to the lovely @austennerdita2533, sweet Ashlee who has been so beautifully kind to me. She makes my life quite lovely by simply existing so hopefully she enjoys this little trinket of love.
-
-
“I can’t freakin’ believe this,” Caroline groaned kicking the tire of the old beat up station wagon her human mother had passed on to her a few years back.
“I can,” Klaus retorted gruffly as he slammed the passenger door, “Bloody car is a piece of,” he paused interrupted by Caroline’s human pet.
“Be nice,” Stefan warned both powerful fae creatures from the back seat as he crawled out of the car long past annoyed with their sparring.
“Thank you,” Caroline said sharply to her best friend as he shut the door behind him while pointedly looking at Klaus.
“We’d be there by now if she,” Klaus looked directly to Caroline as he mimicked her accent, “Hadn’t said, ‘It’s better if we take the car.’ And you agreed.”
“I don’t sound like that,” Caroline complained as she popped open the boot open looking for the spare, “And we were all too drained from the last spell to just whoosh anywhere.”
“Whoosh,” Klaus and Stefan asked confusedly in unison.
“Yes! Now help me you Jacks,” she grumbled as she pulled the tire from the back getting ready to drop it and roll it to the damaged tire and repair it when it vanished.
“All better,” Klaus grinned as the spare tire reappeared in the boot and the flat repaired itself with a whip and flick of his fingers making Caroline grimace, “You’re welcome, Love.”
“I didn’t ask you to do that,” Caroline protested knowing that with every flick of his delicious fingers Klaus was losing his strength considering the blood loss.
Stefan took the moment to step in like a hen mother as he muttered to each of them, “Be nice,” looking from one distressed face to another.
“I have blood on my favorite shirt, in my hair, on my backseat,” Caroline listed as last nights rather murderous events crossed her mind.
“Not exactly the first time,” he grinned as he pushed the image of them having hate sex last week in the car while they waited for Stefan to get back from vetting an underling to their side.
Caroline shot him a glare as her body heated, “I’m sorry, what,” Stefan’s words sliced through the looks they gave one another.
“I didn’t mean to make it sound so salacious,” Klaus amended with a tilt of his head and a wink in her direction, “It’s the accent.”
“Ugh, it’s about five miles to town,” she sighed trying not to vent her frustration, sexual or otherwise at this precise moment, “After that I’m done with you.”
“Caroline,” Stefan cleared his throat after a long heated pause between Klaus and herself, “About that, Klaus, well he has to come. Your Dad asked to meet him.”
“I’d rather die,” Caroline protested as she tugged her hair into a ponytail throwing him the dirtiest look she could muster as his eyes roamed her body appreciatively.
“And yet, you’re as immortal as I am,” he retorted as he took a step closer as the air changed around them, this time Caroline’s powers surfacing as the wind blew that much harder.
“Care to test that,” she asserted as her arms drew up and Stefan took a giant step backwards and slid into the back of the car.
“I think you remember my endurance,” he teased pushing another thought into her mind, just when she reached her climax on his tongue, before she pushed back.
“Puh-lease,” she groaned despite the effect the memory had on her body forcing the image of her on her knees torturing him in the hotel shower into his thoughts.
Stefan stuck his head out of the window, “You two had sex,” he asked as Klaus growled deep in his throat, his neck growing as red as her cheeks.
“Keep up, Stefan,” Caroline uttered with malevolence as she kept her flaring green eyes on Klaus a duel both of their minds were keen on fighting.
“Yes, Stefan,” Klaus matched her tone as he pushed another dirty thought into her mind, one that had yet to transpire, “Do keep up.”
Caroline gasped as Stefan sat back down after he muttered, “I’ve never been so happy to know that I get to die someday.”
“Was that conjured or a premonition,” Caroline exclaimed crowding Klaus, walking him backwards until his boots hit her tire.
“In five miles you’ll know,” he promised with a wicked smirk before he slid passed her and sat himself on the passenger side waiting for her to get in.
Lightening shot through the sky as Caroline let one little one out, her powers caused sparks over her nails ruining the rest of her manicure. “‘In five miles you’ll know,’” she mimicked in his accent.

                                                          -
Mystic Falls was at its best in the early morning hours of the night. Soft, quiet, with their porch lights long since turned off and the stars bright and sparking above the trees that threaded through the small neighborhood Caroline lived in. She sat quietly on her back porch, fingers curled around a thermos of cold tea she held because she liked the bite of mint. That night, the first chill of winter had spread its fingers across Virginia, and her relief was heady. It’d pulled her out of bed, that shiver of cold sweeping the land, and she had slipped downstairs on silent feet to enjoy the first real chill in the air.
Fall was finally, finally here.
How she’d ended up born in the hell pit that was the humid, sticky summers of MF was a question even her mom couldn’t answer. Liz had many theories of course, starting with the fact that it was likely her biological father hadn’t expected any of his children to survive the heat, so he had been more careless than others. Pretty, her straight-laced mother often said with a self-deprecating smile, and charming.
Liz had never seen him without his human face, and had been quite surprised when her toddler had started to show signs of non-human features. Sharper teeth, the changing shape of her ears. The screaming fits when Caroline was dragged outside on balmy summer days.
When she’d been little, Caroline had tried to imagine the man who had given her her bones, the strange marking brought out by only the deepest cold, and very little else. If he had sharply pointed ears and teeth, if when standing barefoot in the first snowfall of the year, he felt as at home as she did. If his skill turned a cool shade of pale, if the markings on his face were a darker blue than hers. There was nothing Caroline loved more than winter, and she always wondered what about Virginia Snow had brought something so strange into her mother’s world. As best they could tell from the mythology of Europe, she might have been part of the Fae, or she could have been some weird snow demon. No one knew.
Her biological father had never made a reappearance.
It would have taken a supernatural charm to woo her mom, her stalwart mom, to tempt her mother into a tryst that had resulted in a pregnancy and a shotgun wedding. Caroline had never blamed either Bill nor Liz for the choices they’d made as teenagers, one needing a husband, the other needing a beard. Raising a child that wasn’t… entirely human had to have been a struggle.
She did blame Bill for trying to erase that part of her as she’d grown older. When it became apparent that she took far more after her non-human parentage, he’d grown distant. Then there was the disaster of her thirteen birthday. She took a slow sip of her cold tea, the bite a balm to the memory of the painful summer heat, the way her mother had sat her in a cold tub filled with ice as she’d shaken from heat stroke and her death, sunburned and aching, in shock of the actions from the man she’d always thought as dad.
Her mom had filed for divorce shortly after, and in the years since Bill had done his best to replace any memory of the little girl she’d once been, any family they might have had, with a new one. Caroline had been willing to try to understand it, but the crueler, sharper side of her had thought him weak. He’d made no attempt to contact her after failing to burn her parentage out of her, and she was willing to bide her time. She thought she might have been human enough to forgive, if she hadn’t seen just how lopsided the divorce had been, how her mom had struggled to keep the home they’d made for themselves.
Spite was a powerful motivator.
In the distance beyond their picture perfect wood privacy fence, something stirred through the shadows, a bare hint of movement, and her eyes narrowed. From the steps, she could just see into the woods, and while they had coyotes, she doubted whatever was stirring would be mundane. Breathing in deep, she let the cool wind tell her the secrets of the land around her, and the familiar mix of wolf and vampire teased her nose, though it was strange to have those two species mingling.
But, she thought as she took a deeper breath, perhaps not necessarily two after all. Tonight was not the first time she’d caught that scent, the strange melding of two species that hated each other. Musk and old blood, not an unappealing combination. Wrinkling her nose, Caroline stretched out her bare feet on the steps. Tyler had been wearing a similar smell for weeks now, instead of the familiar musk of his wolf, and she’d caught sight of several other supernatural beings here and there. Vampires, witches. The lean, wary-eyed wolves with no pack.
There was an infestation of the supernatural lately in Mystic Falls, and Caroline did not like it. It had been her Mom, who had pulled her aside with a soft warning to keep her head down, to avoid attracting attention. Her Mom, who had investigated Elena’s disappearance and Grams death with a grim-eyed knowledge that had stroked the dangerous creature who sat crouched in her veins, waiting out the summer heat.
The same creature who now peaked out into the darkness. She supposed a human would be scared of what waited in the shadows, but as she’d started to grow, after she’d survived her Dad, true fear had been hard to find. Arrogance perhaps, but she’d sacrificed a great deal of her humanity to live, and it made her no easy target. This wasn’t the first hint that something was interested in her backyard, and Caroline was curious if the monster patrolling the woods would make an appearance. If it was clever enough to sense the truth of her.
The vampire who had tried to compel her hadn’t been. Perhaps, if he’d caught her at the height of summer, he’d have had a chance. Instead, he’d found himself very dead, the pretty falling leaves of Fall the only marker of his grave. It had been more than he deserved, preying on young girls.
Taking another sip of her tea, Caroline waited with a patience that had taken a long time to master. She was inclined to fidget, sitting still an anathema, which made Summer particularly difficult. She tended to switch to a more nocturnal schedule when allowed during those short days, the ice and snow that ran cool in her veins miserable, her mornings difficult and lazy. But as she’d gotten older, more in tune with her personal power, she’d found herself becoming more resilient.
Definitely determined. Her mom certainly blamed her short bursts of energy during the hot days for her obsession for lists and a carefully organized schedule. Never let it be said she let something like heat slow her down from getting exactly what she wanted. If this unknown monster thought he was going to frighten her into breaking the silence between them, he was very wrong.
As if he’d heard her thoughts, soft laughter chased the breeze, and a moment later the shadows changed again. The man who had been hovering cleared the six foot fence with an easy leap, thankfully not landing on her carefully babied plants. Hand sliding into his pockets, he sauntered forward, moonlight catching the glimmering gold of his hair, the shadow of his scruff along his jaw. When he smiled, there were dimples.
Pretty, the ice in her veins whispered. Caroline bet he smiled just like that as he killed. Dimples on display, eyes gleaming with a private amusement.
“You know, I had my doubts when my spies insisted there was something strange about the good Sheriff's daughter.” That pleased smile shifted into a hum of satisfaction as he stopped just outside of her reach. “Yet here you are, precociously human in every way, except your scent.” He breathed deeply, arched his brow. “Such an interesting mix.”
Caroline wrinkled her nose as she caught the deeper notes of his smell now that he was closer, slotting together the pieces she’d been missing. Understood the changes she’d seen in Tyler, had sensed in his new collection of friends. They were now a weaker version of this man, imperfect reflections. “Tyler makes a terrible spy, and your other minions scurry away so quickly when spotted. Like mice.”
The amusement and charm dropped from his face, a subtler menace sharpening his cheekbones. “You’re quite the brave little thing for someone whose magical wards don’t bother to keep anything out.”
Interesting, that he’d felt that. She wondered if he knew that she was instead keeping things in? Caroline added a checkbox in her mental list that he was sensitive to magic. Wasn’t it also curious that Bennett magic could linger so long after death?
“Why bother? I haven’t been particularly impressed by those of your kind I’ve met to this point. Plus, you need an invitation to enter a home, don’t you?” She asked breezily, unbothered by the soft threat in his voice. She’d died before, in the scorching heat, under the hands of a man she’d loved. What was another death? “Do you always take the time to try to bully teenagers?”
An arched brow, gaze skimming down the planes of her face. Something golden glimmered out of the edges of his eyes, but it didn’t hold the same threat as his voice. “Perhaps we have started off on the wrong foot, love.”
His tone changed to something coaxing, that thread of charm back in his voice. If what lived beneath her skin hadn’t stirred with such cautious interest at this strange, new thing, this dangerous creature, she might have let him charm her. Her mouth twisted at the thought. Like mother, like daughter, Caroline supposed, with self-deprecating amusement.
Pretty and charming and dangerous. Apparently Forbes women had a type. Still, it wouldn’t do to let him know that.
“Did we?” She asked. “Here I thought this is exactly the footing you wanted. You seem pretty practiced at the whole intimidation schtick.” Caroline waved a hand at him. “How long did it take you to really nail that whole looming bit?”
This time his laugh was louder, freer and she thought, maybe genuine. Still grinning, he meandered over to her garden chair and lifted it with one hand, setting it in front of her with an easy flex of muscle before sprawling across it. “Apologies love, I too am rarely impressed with others' intelligence. It is delightful when I am proven wrong. I’m Klaus.”
Caroine shrugged at the expectancy in his voice at that little announcement. “My mom asked me to stay out of the current drama, so if your name is supposed to mean something to me, it doesn’t.” That it was for her mom was the only reason she didn’t resent the gleam in his eyes, the tug of his smile. This close, and she could sense the true depth of his age, and it was older than even the oldest of trees that had told her stories in her youth. “But you're probably the reason she’s been working so many hours. Let me guess: you’re also the reason Elena disappeared and Grams is dead.”
“Grams?”
“Sheila Bennett.” She gave him a tight smile. “I liked her.” Her gruff kindness to her mom, her strict magic that gave Caroline time to grow. The ring that sat on her left hand that hid the parts of her that were not human.
An unapologetic hand gesture. “Ah, yes. Greatness requires some sacrifice, I’m afraid.”
“Well,” Caroline drawled. “Keep your greatness away from my mom, and we shouldn’t have a problem. Weird werewolf experimentation isn’t really my forte.” She’d liked Sheila, but she hadn’t considered Bonnie’s grandmother to be hers. The roots she’d put down here started and ended with her mom. The ice that sat in her veins wanted more, wanted something bigger than the small lives here could offer but it was willing to wait.
She didn’t know who her father was, hadn’t learned the breadth and extent of what she was capable of, but time wasn’t going to be her enemy here. Caroline knew that instinctually. She could wait these precious few years with Liz.
A flicker of his lashes, gaze moon-glow as he watched her, something lurking behind his eyes that might have worried someone who didn’t carry winter in their veins. Who hadn’t died and ignored deaths beckoning once already. “Do you think you could manage to be a problem for me? As you said, you are still young.” He stretched his legs out, the toes of his boots nudging the stair next to her bare feet. “A nuisance at most, I imagine.”
Caroline braced an elbow on her thigh and propped up her chin. “You wanna know if I have super powers? Doesn’t really seem like an acquaintance level chat. Kind of also seems like the sort of thing you’d like to know before trying to kill me.”
“Super powers?” He repeated in amusement, ignoring her jab about murder. “I suppose humans would take magic to be such a thing.”
Caroline dramatically wiggled her free hand in his direction. “Humans don’t believe in magic.”
A sly glance. “So you don’t bother pretending to be one?”
“Do you?”
“Rarely,” Klaus said easily. “Humanity is tedious at best and excruciatingly boring the rest of the time. I’ve no desire to exist even a little in their worker bee world.”
“Being perceived as human is its own disguise,” Caroine said readily enough as he watched her, waiting. He understood patience, she thought, but likely only used it when it suited him. She understood that. Besides, this monster had been watching her, and had spies keeping track of her mom. He’d already said so. No point in denying what he already knew. “‘Sheriff Forbes’ strange daughter’ is not the same thing as a ‘Sheriff Forbes’ monster.”
His head tipped. “Are you a monster, sweetheart?”
“Pet names for a barely legal girl - kind of gross.” She took another sip of her tea. “I’m eighteen and you're what, a bajillion?”
“A mere millennia only, I’m afraid.” He studied her thoughtfully. “What led you to the conclusion I am older than I look? Since you, how did you put it? Since you’re staying out of my drama.”
Caroline laughed, a little delighted he could poke fun at himself. She held up a finger, lifting a new one with each point. “You smell like a vampire and wolf, and vampires are always older than they look. Your magic feels old enough you should definitely have more wrinkles than you do, though part of it…” she took a deep breath, sorting through what the chill in the air was telling her. This bit she could tell him without giving away her secrets. “Not new new, but new-ish? Like newly mended bone.”
“New new,” Klaus repeated, mouth curving on one side. “New-ish. Telling the age of someone’s magic is quite an interesting superpower. Do you have much experience with vampires, then?”
“A few.” She set aside her empty thermos. “Can’t say they're really still around to offer a yelp review. I don’t really take well to the attempt to compel me or the biting. Seems like the kind of thing that should come with pretty explicit consent and probably a safe word.”
“Yelp review.” He said slowly, something dangerous coiling in his muscles.
“Yeah, you know, five stars, excellent dinner, fantastic service?” Caroline pursed her lips. “Can’t comment on how delicious I am, and neither could they, honestly, but I can say they didn’t appreciate my hospitality. But even Granny Forbes wouldn’t roll over in her grave at bad manners when someone tries to kill you. Probably.”
They stared at each other, as Klaus absorbed her words, the languid sprawl shifting to something that felt like the edge of a blade. She watched as he worked though what he knew of the town, a glint of calculation clear in his eyes. “You killed the Salvatores.”
“Yup,” she agreed, popping the ‘p’ in the way that drove her mom insane. The slight wrinkle between Klaus’ brows said she was right, teenage mannerisms bothered anyone over twenty five. “Compelling sex from underage girls is even grosser than flirting with them. Though for Stefan, it was more of a case of terminal stupidity. He was rather upset that I’d killed his brother for attempting to be a rapist, when any sane individual would see I did him a favor.”
“Stefan isn’t entirely to blame for his obsession with his brother, being compelled sometimes does odd things to the brain.” He spread his hands, looking vaguely contrite. “It can become a need to fill a gaping wound you can’t see.”
Caroline blinked, filed away that he could compel vampires. “You compelled him to be stupid? That seems like a waste, there wasn't much rattling around in his brain to start.”
A flash of teeth. “Nothing quite so dramatic. Shame though. In a different time, I thought of Stefan as a friend.”
“And you still scrambled his brains.” She made a face. “Can’t say either choice says much about your character. Shitty taste in friends, shitty friend in return.”
Klaus' eyes narrowed. “Most people are a little… wiser in their choice of words around me.”
“This is my backyard,” Caroline said. The secret, chilly heart of her liked that her words had needled him. “Granny Forbes’ etiquette manual didn’t cover trespassers. Besides, you’ve been making vague threats all night.”
An unblinking stare that really should have warned the creature in her veins to be careful, but the moon was starting to set, and it was cool for the first time in months. She was starting to feel a bit drunk on the relief, and here was this brand new monster right in front of her, and she’d always been a sucker for a good puzzle. She wanted to see what lurked beneath the flesh of him, what the truth of his bones looked like.
It helped that he was pretty cute.
Finally, Klaus unbent slightly and that thoughtful curiosity was once again behind his eyes. “So I have. Though, would you believe me if I said compelling Stefan was to save his life?”
“Do you think he’d have agreed, before I dropped him?” Caroline asked. “Brain scrambling seems unpleasant.”
A laugh. “So it does.”
Shifting to a slightly more comfortable position, Caroline arched both brows. “It’s getting late, and my mom will be up soon. Did you accomplish what you wanted with this little conversation?”
“Yes,” he said. “And no.”
“And they say women are the difficult sex.” She pulled her knee up into her chest, pressed her chin against it. “I suppose there is only so much rudeness someone of your… age can handle, you should probably get whatever you want to know out before I leave. I would like to be back in bed before my Mom comes to peek in my room, otherwise she’s probably going to try to shoot you.” A grimace. “Blood is such a bitch to get out of wood. So I’ll let you have this one for free.”
The slow arch of a single brow accompanied her ramble. “Will you? I have plans, Caroline Forbes. Plans I have been working towards for centuries. I would prefer not to kill you, but if you interfere with them, I will.”
Caroline squinted at him. Hard to believe his thousand year old mightiness was hard of hearing. She wasn’t even going to have prevaricate. “Didn’t I already say if you leave my Mom out of your drama we won’t have problems? I could care less about your… What exactly are you calling those bits and pieces of yourself your casting into the world? The thing you're doing to the werewolves?”
His smile was slow. “Hybrids.”
“Right, Hybrids. They stay away from my Mom, I stay away from them.” She stood and rose up on her toes, stretching. “You could have made this meeting an email, you know.”
“Some things require a personal touch,” he disagreed as he pushed to his feet. “Though I do have one more question.”
“I'm so surprised,” Caroline muttered. “But this one will cost you. I get to ask my own question, any question, at the time of my choosing.”
Klaus was suddenly nearly nose to nose with her, the step elevatoring her just a hair taller than him. “You are rather presumptuous, love. I don’t generally let others dictate terms.”
“Awe, compliments.” She stared back unphased, though this close and the magic of him sank into her lungs with every inhale. For fun, Caroline let a hint of the frost that lived inside color her voice. “Yes or no?”
The wolf, already bright in his gaze, deepened as the first hint of vampirism threaded in dark lines beneath his eyes at the touch of her magic. There was no threat to him, though she was certain he’d likely try to kill her as easily as be amused by her demands as the mood took him. This felt like a monster's curiosity.
“Equal exchange, then. You may ask a question of equal or lesser worth to the one I will ask you.”
She blinked. “Who decides the value?”
Something old and canny moved behind his eyes. “We’ll let your magic decide that.”
Caroline scowled a little, at the touch of amusement caught in the corners of his mouth. So he was smart enough to guess at what she was with what very little that she’d given him. Interesting, that he gave any credence to her existence. Very few did.
“Ask your question, Klaus.”
“How does an eighteen year old girl, non-human or not, get the drop on two vampires so many centuries older?” A furrow caught faintly between his eyes. “The witches would have noticed any unknown magic around their disappearance, and what you have protecting your home isn’t enough to hide you completely.”
Caroline propped a hand on her hip. “I bet you’d just love it if telling you would give away some of my secrets, wouldn’t it?”
A dimple peaked from his cheek. “Of course.”
“You’re going to be so disappointed. Bill is a Hunter, a fact I’m sure your creepy little spy network has dug up by now.”
A twitch of his lips. “They have.”
“Right, Dad hates vampires, likes to expound his knowledge at family dinners, yada yada, with vampires you're supposed to stabbity stab them with a stake.” She rolled her eyes as Klaus muttered stabbity stab under his breath. “So, confession, I’ve never really understood the whole stake through the heart thing. Seems like an unnecessary risk. Most vampires will see you coming.”
“That does tend to happen.”
She nodded, ignoring the faint amusement in his voice. “ Anyway, so the whole stabbing thing was out because stakes splinter, and no one wants to dig out slivers of wood from a hand that had the audacity to heal over the wood because, you know, vampire blood. Plus, that’s not totally weird to just have lying around the house.”
“Ah,” Klaus managed with a perfectly straight face. “I can see the inconvenience. I'll take it you’ve experienced such a thing.”
He was clever enough to make it a statement and not a question but she ignored it anyway.
“You know what’s not weird to have lying around the house in Virginia? Guns. Damon was an idiot, and once he thought I was compelled, he didn’t really keep a close watch on what was happening. Once I was inside, it was pretty easy to grab the shotgun; Mom keeps that one close to the door. Even if I miss some of the heart the first time, I don’t on the second shot.” Caroline smiled, baring her teeth. “They usually aren’t moving very fast at that point.”
“Sounds messy.”
She wrinkled her nose at the memory. “It did take me a while to find the wooden bullets, so he like, bled everywhere since the steel shot didn’t actually kill him, which was a pain. I spent a full day sanding the porch so I could restain it. Thankfully the shot didn’t ruin the boards. Vampire bones are apparently denser than human, it wasn’t as though and though as it could have been.”
Klaus rubbed a hand over his mouth to hide what she was certain was a laugh. “And Stefan?”
“My porch smelled like Damon’s blood for days.” Caroline spread her hands and blinked at Klaus. “I expected Stefan like, a week before he showed up. I was out there innocently pruning some flowers, and he just, swooshed in, and was all “where is my brother” in full vampire face. Pretty generic threats, which I could have ignored, but then he threatened my mom.”
“She does seem precious to you.”
“So your hybrids seem to you,” she responded sweetly, matching the vagueness of threatening words with her own. “Anyway I had been operating under the impression that Stefan had the single brain cell between the brothers. Boy was I wrong? Master of Observation he was not, and you know, a shotgun isn't really a precise weapon. He never noticed it just sitting there on the flower bed?” Another sigh. “I did have to lie to Mrs. Wiggins next door though. She’s got little dogs, so telling her I’d seen a coyote and scared it off did earn me some fresh baked cookies. So those were nice after I dealt with the body.”
His eyes were full of laughter. “Is Stefan in your flower beds?”
Caroline made an indignant noise. “That kind of stupid might infect the flowers.”
Klaus' laughter was low, his dimples flashing. “It’s been a pleasure, love. I do so hope you don’t become my enemy. I believe I’d enjoy seeing what you decide to become.”
Stepping backwards, he spun, pausing to reset her chair. Caroline crossed her arms, trying not to be charmed by the fact that he cleaned up after himself, watching as he sauntered back the direction he’d come. “Not being my enemy will depend on you, won’t it?”
He didn’t answer, clearing her fence line, and melting back into the shadows. Bending over, Caroline scooped her thermos and went back inside, locking the door and studying the darkness of her back yard. Every icy instinct she had said that was definitely not the last conversation she was going to have with Klaus.
Blowing out a breath, she headed for the kitchen instead of her room. Dawn was in an hour or so, and her Mom would be up and moving. This was definitely going to be a breakfast casserole kind of morning. Liz was going to be pissed that Klaus had shown up and dragged her into what was going on in Mystic Falls, but Caroline didn’t intend to hide it. It had been Liz, who had come looking when her Dad had left her behind on that hike, and her Mom who had helped her bury Stefan’s body.
The Forbes women stuck together.
Caroline just had to figure out how to avoid letting her know just how attractive she found Klaus.

Is there a nip in the air, held off by the cozy sweater Caroline can’t help stealing from Klaus? Is the snow coming down outside the porch of their posh Swiss cabin? kc + fae!!!!!!
The light is a trick. It’s always a trick.
Sometimes his own mind betrays him. When Klaus is left alone for too long, when his control slips, that’s when he feels it. Warm and bright, accompanied by the scents of new grass and old trees, by the sound of a laugh that’s at turns joyous and mocking.
She’d never feared him, nor been willing to smile and flirt or flatter him. He’d claimed to find her reactions irritating, had used it as an excuse to plague her at every gathering he could. He doesn’t remember when he’d stopped pretending that he didn’t find her intriguing but he remembers when she’d begun to indulge him.
“Dance with me,” she’d said, an aggravated grumble at odds with the playful light in her eyes as she’d knocked her shoulder into his. “It’s the least you could do if you’re going to insist on glaring at any others who might offer.”
Scaring off Caroline’s suitors was a pastime Klaus had excelled at and practiced often. One he’s vowed to enjoy again.
Once he escapes this hole.
He does his best not to keep his thoughts of Caroline fleeting. Remembering the softness of her skin or the sharpness of her tongue only makes the endless crawl of time more difficult.  He knows she thinks he’d left willingly, had read the note forged in his hand before it had been delivered.
Klaus had thought, hoped, she would see through it, that she would known the words weren’t his, that the sentiments were the furthest things from truth.
He’d never liked the servant who’d attended Caroline, had thought there something odd and cold about Katerina’s dark eyes.
He should have trusted his instincts and killed her when he’d had the chance.
This time he knows it’s not him who’s conjured Caroline. Klaus has been cautious had stayed in the exact center of his tiny iron cage, made himself small on the hard packed earth, and waited. He’d vowed to be at full strength the next time he had a visitor, to be alert and watchful and to look for an opportunity.
He’d been blinded by rage for too long, had lashed out too often, and it had gotten him nothing, only amused his captors.
When he feels the light he hides a smile, head pressed into his bent knee.
So Mikeal has finally remembered him. It’s him who most often weaves illusions of Caroline. When Klaus had been weak enough, when he’d grown weary of the endless dark and has tried to fight the cold bars that enclose him, that’s when Mikael had slipped his poison in.
Klaus won’t allow his memories of Caroline to be twisted again.
Klaus had detected a hint of strain the last time he’d been subjected to a visit, a level of distraction in his mother’s consort’s manner. Unusual, for cruelties had always satisfied Mikeal more than the finest of wines or the most bountiful of feasts. He’s suspected that the unrest amongst the court had only grown in his absence, that Mikeal was having difficulties squashing the many plots against him.
Had he thought Klaus his only enemy? How terribly short sighted.
He hears the groaning of metal, braces himself for the pain that always accompanies his prison being dismantled. Mikeal’s spent centuries berating Klaus’ weakness but he’s not willing to face Klaus on equal footing. He only approaches when Klaus’ blood is mingling with the earth, spikes of cold iron through his limbs, a band with jagged edges around his throat.
It makes talking difficult but Klaus manages. He’s learned to take his amusements, scarce as they are, as they come.
The pain doesn’t come, the light grows. Klaus squints into the brightness, his confusion swirling as his skins warms.
He doesn’t remember when he’d last felt anything but chilled and damp.
Klaus staggers to his feet, his body slow to react, stiff and unused to movement. He stumbles, lists to one side, and he’s caught with gentle hands. “Easy,” Caroline murmurs. Her fingers brush his face, “Close your eyes. Go slow.” He nods and her touch remains, grows searching, smoothing over his tattered clothes and the skin beneath. She keeps talking, but he misses the words. He basks in the low soothing tones, but it’s the edge that enters her voice each time she finds a new scar that had him believing she might actually be real.
He’s never dreamed of rescue, has never wanted Caroline in this place. He’s done his best to hide the fierceness of their connection, the depths of his regard for her, in hopes that she’d be protected. She is his, but he is also hers. Had Mikael known the lengths Caroline would go to for Klaus she might have ended up in a cage of her own.
Once she’s satisfied that he’s whole enough she presses the length of her body to his, curves her hand around his neck and tucks her face into his throat. Her lips touch his shoulder and Klaus clears his throat. The words come out rough but Caroline only clutches him tighter. “Note didn’t do the trick, then?”
The noise she makes is mostly amused but Klaus hears the hint of tears that choke her for a moment. He wraps his arms around her, isn’t the least bit surprised to find her dress slick with what can only be blood. She pulls herself together, nails scratching through the unkempt curls at the base of his skull. “Of course not. You wouldn’t leave me alone when I begged you to. Why would you go when I finally wanted you to stay?”
“Have I told you lately that I adore your brain, love?”
She pulls back, brushes her fingertips over his eyelids. He’s careful this time, letting his eyes slit open the smallest amount. The light still stings but it’s a good hurt. Caroline’s smile is tremulous, “No. Not lately.”
There are things Klaus needs to know. Just how long he’s been imprisoned, if any of his siblings save Finn had sided with Mikeal. If Mikael was still alive, how great a threat he was, and just who’s blood Caroline wore. There’s much to do, he knows, but he won’t be denied this moment.
He closes his eyes again, sets his lips to Caroline and tastes her pleased sigh as her lips part to welcome his kiss. She clings to him as the kiss turns deep and searching and his hands roam greedily needing her closer, as close as he can get her while they’re both still clothed.
She whines a protest when he tears his mouth away, moans her approval when his lips find the spot on her neck where she’s most sensitive. She pants when he laves it with his tongue, shudders when he applies his teeth and marks her delicate skin. He fleetingly considers taking her to the ground when her hips grind into his, of obliterating his memories of this place with something so much sweeter.
He’s tempted but Caroline deserves better, they deserve more -  a soft bed, sumptuous sheets, and time to savor and explore. He rests his forehead against hers, winding his hand in her hair and tugging gently when she makes to kiss him once more. “Soon,” he rasps. “I promise. Somewhere light, where I can see all of you.”
She makes a noise, the faintest complaint, but she subsides, taking his hand in hers. “If you insist. My home is safe.”
He threads their fingers together, letting his eyes blink open once more. It’s better this time, his eyes growing accustomed after so long in darkness. He looks to their clasped hands, his filthy and Caroline’s bloody. They’ve fought their own battles while separated - Klaus in his prison, Caroline at court - and they’ve both emerged victorious.
Now that they’re together? Well, Klaus almost pities their enemies.

Fandom Creator's Self-Rec Game!
Choose five favourites from your own creations (and tell me why, if you like!), then pass on to at least five other people. I'd love to hear what you're proudest of.
Thank you @cbk1000 for tagging me, even though eeek, talking about my fics, scary! I'll try to give a good showing though.
---------------------
Stellar Flare (Klaroline, 13k)
When Klaus wakes up in a cage on a frozen iceball planet, his luck seems to be going sour. Fortunately for the werewolf, a blonde with the power to get them out of this mess lands in his lap, literally. Working together seems the only way to escape, but Tyler isn't about to let them go so easily.
Okay so this is my Least Well Received fic, which i 100% anticipated and i am not mad about at all. I am very grateful that one anon and Ravyn like this sucker! It's just a very silly sci-fi prison escape romp where the only people Klaus and Caroline have to depend on are each other while mind bonded, and it really narrowed the focus on my story telling. It's also written from Klaus' perspective, which is NOT my forte, so i really have to work to get into his head. So i really like this one because it's a challenge for me and we don't get a lot of sci-fi in the fandom.
-----------------------
meraki (Klaroline, 7k)
Klaus and Caroline visit a museum in Athens and have Opinions about art while feeling out the depth of their new relationship. There is one (1) lunch date and one (1) theft of a painting.
This was the continuation of the shortest story i've ever written (didn't know i had it in me) and it is nothing but pure fluff. This is the universe of happily ever afters. I cannot imagine writing any kind of great conflict here, it is the happy place, it is where i go when i need them to be stupidly in love and touring the world together.
-------------------------
Hallowed Ground (Klaroline, 38k)
Caroline's trip to Ireland was not going the way it was supposed to. She was expecting stories and myths, and instead finds that some legends are a lot more real than she could have imagined. And hot. Really hot.
Okay so this is what happens what i make a playlist of Florence + the Machine and Hozier and then listen to for two months straight? I write about Klaus the fae prince being trapped in a church, and Damon the psycho priest murdering women, and Caroline and Klaus playing Uno and having sex in confessionals. LISTEN. LISTEN. We are ALL AWARE I am going to hell and if you're here it's for the good company. xD I had such fun writing this one for the exchange and basically cackled to myself gleefully the whole time. It has a LOT of my Author Motifs like cooking/enjoying food, niche history lessons, and Carenzo besties harassment.

Selfish Rituals (Klaroline, 28k)
Caroline's well organized holiday plans are going great until they're upended by Elena's brutal supernatural murder. Kol's brother arriving in town is a pleasant distraction from trying to catch her killer, but Caroline's not going to let a pair of dimples divert her (much) as the bodies keep piling up. When a dangerous ritual ends up giving her something more than answers, she has to decide what she wants, and how far she's willing to go to get it.
Okay this was for a secret santa some friends and i did, and it came out GREAT. Klaus as some ancient god of the hunt, witch!Caroline wrapped up in a mystery who-done-it murder of Elena and her beaus, a Holiday Fair with skating, it is just fluff and cute and murder and fluff. Did i mention murder? Also murder. Trying to keep the plot going while weaving in the mystery was a fun challenge and while it may have come out a little basic, i think it was a fun first attempt at the subject, and my character interactions on this one are REALLY FUN. Caroline is bestie roommates with Enzo, which means boyfriend Kol is over All The Time, which they will deal with bc he cooks, and watching them trying to lure Bonnie into a polycule is a show worth the price of admission. Truly love this one.
----------------
No Roses For Your Bones (Klaroline, 46k)
When Tyler Lockwood--Federal Agent and Caroline's ex-boyfriend--walked into the Mikaelson family bar, Caroline knew it was going to be the beginning of a really obnoxious joke. He wasn't content to let the past rest though, and soon what he thinks he knows blows the dust off the skeletons they had long buried.
THIS IS MY FAVORITE THING. I love this fic so much. I had so much fun planning and writing this one with @cupcakemolotov sitting on my shoulder like the best little devil. Like okay first of all, i do not write out of chronological order? I am so linear. So the fact that this fic ended up being going backward through Klaus and Caroline's relationship? Wild, unprecedented. Second, the plot. My prompts from Ravyn were "Caroline burying Tyler in the Lockwood cellar" and "Caroline closing down a bar." THOSE WERE THE PROMPTS. And i turned them into THAT. I went nuts, i went HOG WILD. I invented so much stuff in the middle!! Love that for me. Anyways i just love this fic, i felt like i was really creative and fun, and this au has a lot going for it.
-----------------------
I'm tagging @stars-and-darkness, @bellemorte180, @hexenfleur, @mass-convergence, @helpless-in-sleep SAY NICE THINGS ABOUT UR FIC! *fingerguns*

Klaroline fanfic update: Growing Up Original
Tumblr media
I’ve gotten a lot of requests to continue A Pregnant Pause, and finally my muse came up with some fun ideas for a new multichap sequel! Here’s a quick peek:
Chapter 1: Three months
“I’ve slaughtered entire villages and left corpses rotting in a relentless sun that didn’t smell this foul,” Kol whined, holding his nose as he stomped into the nursey.
Kol was such a drama queen — it’s not like he actually had to breathe. After Caroline finished changing August, she pointed to the glass jar on the bookcase and scolded, “M&M Jar.” After August had been born, Caroline established the Maim & Murder Jar as a deterrent to keep Klaus and his siblings from discussing torture or killing (or, in WAY too many cases, actually doing torture and murder) in front of the baby. The penalties ranged from obscenely financial to this bizarre supernatural barter system that apparently predates all monetary systems by centuries.
At this rate, August would be able to buy Harvard. And Stanford. And if he wanted to go to Cambridge or Oxford, apparently, there was a fae king that now owed him a favor. (And don’t think that didn’t blow her mind to find out about the fae — although, for such secretive creatures, it was surprising their king would be so obvious about hiding his pointed ears with enormous fake human ears.)
Caroline cooed at August as she swept him up into her arms, rocking him gently in a bundle of impossibly soft cashmere, Rebekah’s latest luxury blanket purchase that she insisted her godson required. At Kol’s fake gagging over the smell, Caroline irritably reminded him, “It’s been three months — you should be used to the baby’s routines by now. And stop acting like you don’t have his schedule memorized — you flashed your fangs at our chef because she touched August’s bottles in the fridge!”
“My godson feeds every three to four hours and it wasn’t time yet and who knows what nefarious purpose that woman had for touching his formula,” Kol muttered darkly.

klaroline au week ≡ day three: crossovers/fusions
folk of the air au: when caroline’s marriage to the prince of the fae was arranged, she fully understood that she was nothing more than a pretty decorative gift from her father to the royal crown, she’d expected the whole thing to be a loveless miserable one, she'd no idea that the prince was half in love with her or that he was so ambitious as to plot to take over the throne and to have her as his queen.
