Hi! Well, I also have my little story jumping in my mind, so if it ever inspires you to put it into words, I'll be delighted. Your way of writing them having pleasure together is very delightful…. So….And of course, don't worry if my little scenario doesn’t inspires you. Write what pleases you!!
This happens in the bathroom, after the shower, one is in front of the counter sink finishing his toilet, a towel around his waist and the other approaches him, drying himself, touches his back and offers to put cream on his back... and it ends with them fucking against the counter, both turned towards the big mirror, where they see most of themselves. And the light is clear. And one says “keep your eyes open” "look at you, look how beautiful you are" (something like that...) They can see all their emotions, everything that is happening on their two bodies, on and under their skin, their expressions, their pleasure. Here's the idea... And I'll let you choose who fucks who. I have my idea, but you're the one who writes it, so….. thank you for writing in general. :)
Thank you so much! It's 7 months late but I have finally written this wonderful prompt. I hope you enjoy what I've done with it <3 It was a lot of fun to write.
You can read the full fic on AO3, but here's a little taste ;)
Kurt stands at the sink, fingertips rubbing the moisturizer into his face. His towel is wrapped low around his hips, his torso bare in the still-humid air of the bathroom. Blaine approaches from behind, rubbing a towel through his damp curls before tossing it in the hamper. His hands settle on Kurt’s hips as he places a soft kiss to Kurt’s neck before tucking his chin over his shoulder. Their eyes meet in the mirror, electric blue to warm hazel, and Kurt smiles warmly at his boyfriend. “Do you want me to put lotion on your back?” Blaine asks, squeezing gently at Kurt’s hips. “Please,” Kurt agrees. Blaine pulls back, grabs the bottle of lotion from the counter and squirts some onto his hand. He rubs his hands together, warming it, then presses them both to Kurt’s back, starting in the center and spreading out over his shoulder blades then down. Kurt lets his head drop forward, chin to his chest, eyes fluttering closed as Blaine’s hands work over his back, massaging the lotion gently into his skin. He groans softly in appreciation as Blaine squeezes the muscles at the base of his neck, working out the tension. “Feel good?” Blaine asks softly, breath ghosting over Kurt’s back. “Mmm,” Kurt hums. Blaine leans forward to place a gentle kiss to Kurt’s neck, then another, before he presses his lips to Kurt’s skin, open-mouthed, and sucks gently at his neck. “Oh,” Kurt gasps, tipping his head to the side now to give Blaine better access.

Send me a Ship and a Number and I will Write a Kiss
…on a scar.
Love the list and tempted to send ore than one number in one go . . but I won't be greedy . . 😊
from the kiss list / see the rest
Notes: Mentions of the fact that Blaine has scars caused by his Sadie Hawkins experience but no details about it.
~~~~~
"So I can't help but notice," Kurt says. "That no one else is home."
He smiles mischievously and pulls Blaine down next to him on the bed. Blaine feels the affection unfold in his stomach. He loves Kurt like this. Cheeks flushed and eyes bright and so obviously interested that it soothes some of Blaine's constant insecurities.
"Hmm," Blaine hums like this fact had completely escaped him and the thought hadn't been thrumming under his skin for the whole car ride here. "Yeah. I guess my parents are both out tonight."
Kurt doesn't bother to act coy. His arms slide over Blaine's shoulders and then their mouths meet, soft and warm.
It still feels so new. Kissing Kurt. Even though it's been a few months now. Months of sweet, shy kisses that have melted into heated making out. They've learned how to turn their heads to perfectly fit together. Blaine knows that Kurt's nose fits in the groove of his cheek. He knows that Kurt makes a gorgeous, needy little noise if Blaine's teeth catch on his bottom lip. He knows that his hand always finds Kurt's cheek or jaw, eager to keep him close.
It's unusual for them to get any real privacy and Blaine doesn't fully know what he expected from suddenly getting some, but he loves how it’s turned out. Just the opportunity to kiss slowly and lazily, a constant catch and release of mouths and shared breaths until his ears are flushed and his lips feel swollen and Kurt's eyes are dark and heavy.
Blaine can't believe how good kissing feels. He could happily never stop kissing Kurt.
"Can I…?" Kurt breaths, trailing off. He toys with the buttons on Blaine's shirt.
"Hmm?" Blaine can't stop staring at Kurt's mouth. Slightly red and damp. Completely kissable.
"Can we take our shirts off?"
Blaine freezes, breath catching nervously. He wants to see Kurt so badly and trail his fingers across Kurt's perfect skin. Map out the shape of him without clothes in the way. But. That would also mean exposing himself. And he doesn’t know whether to warn Kurt about the scars. The ones that spider from his hips and up across his ribs. But the warning will just invite more questions. He doesn’t want to talk about Sadie Hawkins right now. Not because he doesn’t trust Kurt. But because he just wants to be with him in the moment and not invite his past into this bubble they’ve created.
Of course, not telling him means that Blaine might have to watch his face turn to shock or disgust. Blaine is not ashamed of the scars. And he doesn’t think that Kurt is the sort of person to care about them either. But there’s always that small level of doubt.
"Blaine?" Kurt prompts gently. "Sorry. It's too soon. Forget I-"
“No,” Blaine interrupts. He cups Kurt’s face. “It’s not that. I want to. Just… do mine first.”  He doesn’t want to talk about the scars. But he does want to get the reveal over with.
Kurt catches Blaine’s eye as he reaches for Blaine’s buttons again. He makes quick work of them, hand sliding warmly over Blaine’s collarbone as the sliver of skin is exposed. Blaine shrugs out of the shirt before he can change his mind, letting Kurt pull it away eagerly like a kid tearing wrapping off a gift.
He hears the way Kurt’s breath catches. “Wow,” Kurt murmurs. He sounds reverent rather than appalled so Blaine chances a glance at his face. His eyes are soft with open adoration. It makes Blaine’s own breath stutter. He thinks Kurt must not have noticed the scars somehow, as impossible as that would be. But Kurt places his hands directly over the worst of them in a gentle caress.
“Does this hurt?” he asks.
“No. They’re old scars.”
Kurt gives him a knowing look. Like he knows as well as Blaine that some scars never truly heal. “Can we lie down?”
Blaine wants to protest that Kurt still has his shirt on but if Kurt looked at him the way he is now whilst half naked, he might just combust on the spot. So he just nods. He lets Kurt push him down. Kurt doesn’t quite straddle him but he does hover over him, pressing another lush kiss to his waiting lips before turning his attention to Blaine’s chest again.
It’s startling when he puts his lips directly on Blaine’s bare hip. Blaine’s breath punches out of him. For all the kissing they’ve done, it couldn’t prepare him for Kurt’s lips on the more untouched parts of his body. It feels so intimate, the way Kurt’s lips softly press the path of the most obvious scar. Blaine shivers, hand fisting uselessly in the sheets.
“Is this OK?” Kurt checks, voice low. “You’re trembling.”
“It’s OK. Better than OK. Good even,” Blaine babbles and Kurt grins down at him, head slightly cocked.
“God, you’re gorgeous. I’m kind of feeling insane that I get to see you like this.”
Blaine would agree but Kurt’s mouth is back on his body and all he manages is a groan. He throws a hand over his face. Heat spreads from every point of Kurt’s lips on him. His hips shift helplessly against nothing. The simmering arousal from making out, slightly quelled by his anxiety, roars back into life. Blaine reaches for Kurt, finds his hair, wraps his fingers through it.
“So gorgeous,” Kurt repeats half like an assurance and  half like he just can't help himself.
By the time he's finished mapping Blaine's scar and is making his way up Blaine's throat instead, Blaine barely knows what to do with himself. He's hard and aching. He's breathless and flushed and incoherent. He wants Kurt's body on him, wants to get at his bare skin, wants to devour him.
Kurt's face meets him back at eye level and looks down at him. He looks flushed too, bright eyed with arousal and looking at Blaine's lips. He nuzzles their noses together and Blaine melts. He hooks an arm over Kurt's shoulders and pulls him close so Kurt is half on top of him and their foreheads are pressed together.
"You're perfect," Kurt says, quiet into the space between them and Blaine didn't know how much he needed to hear it.
"So are you." Blaine slides a hand under Kurt's shirt, trailing over warm skin. He wants to make Kurt feel the same as he does. Adored and content and stupidly horny. "Let me show you."
Tis the Damn Season
Day 21: Departure
AO3
Two weeks later found Blaine back at the airport heading home to New York. Strange that just a few months in the city had made him feel at home. Growing up, Ohio had been fine but when middle and high school arrived and Blaine was figuring out how to be unapologetically himself, it felt less like he belonged there. In New York, he was able to let go of those bad memories. And he understood that a new state and a new state of mind didn’t mean bad things would stop happening; they would just happen a little less he hoped.
So, Blaine was sitting at his gate waiting for his flight departure to be called. This break had been good for him. He missed his family, Cooper especially, he got to hang out with the Warblers, and he managed to kiss Kurt Hummel. All in all, not a bad Christmas season.
“Hey you,” Kurt said, returning to his seat beside Blaine.
Kurt kissed his cheek.
He handed Blaine his coffee. “One medium drip.”
“Thank you.”
They didn’t call them dates. The coffee shop meet ups, going to see a movie together, shopping at the mall…not dates. Just two people with feelings for each other put hanging out, platonically.
It definitely wasn’t a date when Kurt texted him to meet up in the parking lot between the Methodist church and the Lima elementary school to make out. And certainly not when Blaine had invited Kurt over when his house was empty…and they did a little more than make out.
Those weren’t dates because they both decided their first date should be in New York. Blaine didn’t know where Kurt was planning on taking him. Yes, Kurt had been the one to ask him out first but only because they both started to ask and Blaine had let Kurt go first.
Frankly, Blaine didn’t care where they went. He just wanted to be with Kurt. He wanted to be with him for as long as he could.
Blaine grabbed Kurt’s free hand and squeezed. Over his coffee cup, Kurt raised his eyebrow. Silently asking if everything was okay. And it was. Everything was perfect.
I need someone to write Glee AU where Pavarotti is alive. I mean, can you imagine the changes this little event could make? Like, Kurt wouldn't sing Blackbird dedicating it to Pav → Blaine wouldn't realise his feelings → Blaine wouldn't transfer to McKinley → Kurt would be more likely to get the role of Tony → Kurt would have more credits for his application and might get in NYADA for the fall semester etc. There's so many possibilities! Any ship could happen and all because little bird stayed alive 🤯
Klaine could still happen, but differently.
Kurt could move on from Blaine and become closer with other Warblers and/or Dalton students and maybe start dating someone else. This could also lead to Kurt staying at Dalton.
Kurt coming back to McKinley single, which opens a lot of opportunities for Hevans, Kurtofsky, Puckurt etc. (for each their own)
When in season 3, there's Kurtbastian and Chandler/Kurt - not necessary romantic relationships, but friendships as well. And Blaine might transfer to McKinley or stay at Dalton (there's also a possibility for Seblaine in the background - I'm not a fan, but for each their own). Kurt might be still in close contact with Warblers or they could go completely separate ways.
Blaine staying at Dalton makes it possible for Kurt to get the role of Tony and get more solos, which means he has bigger chances of being accepted in NYADA.
And then season 4, where if Kurt is single there's Kadam and it can start earlier. And Vogue could or could not happen in this timeline. As well as Kurt and Rachel living together and Santana joining them.
And then Kurt's band in season 5. Elliott and Dani could still be there, but their meetings might change. Kelliott is a possibility. Kurt might impress June this time or still not make her think he has a potential. He could meet Maggie and perform as Peter Pan or not.
And then the 6th season - it could become a completely different story!
I just had to share this thought because it was haunting me for months now 😅 I even made a list of some of the possible storylines up until the end of season 3. But I'm not a writer and so I'm sharing this so anyone could use the idea(s). Just, if someone gets inspired by this and writes something, please send me the link to the story! 💜
29 for the kisses x
hiiiii thanks!!
i originally intended for this to be short, but then it turned into about 800 words of domestic fluff, hope you enjoy it <3
29. ...as a promise
The first year they’re married isn’t always easy. It’s a struggle when they’re both still in college and both working. When they don’t get much time to spend together. When they’re both stressed and short-tempered. When they’re trying their hardest to make everything work.
It’s easy to get frustrated with each other. It’s easy to get into arguments. And they do. But they talk. They’ve gotten better about that. They talk and they make up and they keep in mind that their lives won’t always be like this.
Blaine needs his time and attention more than Kurt realizes sometimes. He knows how easily they can get caught up in their individual lives. He knows how easily he can fall into routines and forget to make time for just the two of them, for their life together. But he’s trying to get better about that. He’s trying to get better about recognizing when Blaine needs him, when Blaine has been giving too much of his time and energy and support to him, when he needs to be the one to give. Sometimes the little red box on the dresser serves as a glaring reminder that he needs to be sure to give too, that he needs to show his husband how loved he is too sometimes.
Kurt plans on spoiling his husband on their anniversary. Sometimes it’s still a little weird to think that they’ve been married for a whole year already. That they’re husbands. That they get to spend the rest of their lives together. There’s no one else he’d rather spend his life with.
He hates to pull himself away from his husband on a morning like this, where they have no plans for the day and could wake up together and share lazy, sleepy kisses until they feel like getting out of bed, but he has to so he can wake Blaine up with breakfast in bed. So he quietly slips out of bed, pressing a light kiss to his sleeping husband’s temple before going to their kitchen to make them breakfast.
Blaine is just barely awake when Kurt returns with a mug of coffee and a happy “Good morning.”
“Good morning,” Blaine says through a half-yawn. “Happy anniversary.”
“Happy anniversary. I’ll be right back with breakfast,” he finishes with a kiss to Blaine’s cheek.
“I’m not going to complain about breakfast in bed,” Blaine starts when he comes back with their breakfast tray, “but you didn’t have to do all this.”
“But I wanted to. It’s our anniversary, and I don’t get to make you breakfast in bed very often,” Kurt responds as he settles himself back down on their bed.
“Can’t argue with that,” Blaine says around a bite of French toast. “Thank you for making breakfast.”
“Of course. You know that I like to do things like this for you, right?”
“I know. We just haven’t been able to do them very often recently.”
“That’s the thing though, is you’ve still been going out of your way to do stuff like this for me, and I… haven’t been the greatest about doing the same for you.”
“Kurt, I don’t need you to—”
“I know, you don’t need me to do things like this for you everyday or anything but… I also know that I do need to work on making more time for us sometimes. So…”
“So…breakfast in bed today?”
“Breakfast in bed, and I am all yours today. No distractions of any kind, just us today.”
“I love you,” Blaine says, leaning forward to press a quick, syrup-flavored kiss to his lips.
“Love you too. Oh! One more thing.” He stretches over to his nightstand to pull a little blue box, much like the red one sitting on the dresser, from the drawer.
“What are you…” Blaine wonders aloud in a mix of confusion and amusement.
“Blaine, you gave me a promise ring before we had even been dating for a year. And you’ve still held every promise you made me then, no matter what we’ve been through since. This is long overdue from me.”
A smile creeps across Blaine’s face as he gently takes the box from Kurt’s hands and opens it to look at the ring made of old sheet music inside. “What are you promising?”
“To keep sharing our lives together like this. To support you through whatever opportunities come our way. To really communicate, even when it gets hard for us. To…make you breakfast in bed at least twice a year. To be a team in life. Mostly to always remind you how loved you are.”
Blaine pulls him into a kiss that feels like a promise itself, one they both know but can’t quite put into words. And the rest of breakfast gets pushed aside so they can keep sharing unspoken promises like that.
<3 angsty romance prompt 15 pleaseeeeee
Whoopsie. Um. I am not sure what this is. More action than angst, probably? Warnings for violence. I also changed the prompt slightly.
15) ”Please. Just kill me and get it over with. Don’t screw me over. and. over again.”
“Kurt?”
Both Rachel and Santana turn around, away from their captive, to stare in shock. Kurt keeps his face stern and unmoving, not meeting their alarmed, masked eyes.
“Kurt, what’s going on?” Blaine’s eyes are huge with fear and damn but he shouldn’t look so good tied up to a chair, hands behind his back. His hair has escaped from its gel. He looks a little wild.
“Hold up.” Santana marches to Kurt and drags him away by his arm none too gently. Once she deems that they’re far enough, she stops. “Why does he know your name?”
Kurt swallows. “Because he’s the guy I’ve been seeing.”
Santana’s mouth drops open. “Holy shit, Blackbird. How’re you going to get out of this one?”
“I’m still working on it,” Kurt says, hoping he sounds calmer than he feels. The last few days have been a living nightmare, knowing it would come to this, to torture and pain. He has no choice. He never wanted Blaine to find out about his other identity, but then again, he never expected Blaine to be his next target, either. It all just proves how deep he is, how nothing good can ever happen to him.
“Well, feel free to tell us any time about how you wish to proceed,” Santana says. “He’s yours. I’m not touching him unless you tell me to.”
A horrible, pain-filled scream echoes as a finish to Santana’s sentence. They share a quick look. Kurt feels his insides twist. The scream came from Blaine. Rachel started without them.
“Fuck,” Santana swears and turns around to run.
Kurt shakes himself out of his frozen state to follow her.
“Nightingale!” Santana roars. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”
“Completing the assignment,” Rachel answers, indignant. “You two went away to gossip, but time is running out. We need the answers or we’re screwed.”
“Kurt?” Blaine sounds desperate. There’s a huge red mark on his left cheek. That’ll turn into a bruise very soon, Kurt knows from experience. “She… she said… that you’re here to kill me.”
Kurt can’t speak. He only wants to comfort and care, he wants to untie Blaine and gather him close. He thought he could keep his cover, but Blaine saw right through it the moment he opened his mouth. Now he has to look into the eyes of the man he loves and see his pain reflected back.
“Yes. You give us the codes to family estate, and we’ll be merciful,” Rachel says. “The longer you hold out, the longer you’ll hurt.”
Blaine’s eyes narrow. “Kurt, I’m speaking to you. Has all this been a con? You just… you just want the Anderson money?”
Kurt says nothing. He does close his eyes when Rachel hits Blaine again, tries to ignore the slap and the groan of pain that follows. He feels Santana’s hand on his shoulder. He wants to stop Rachel, but he has no idea how they’ll get out of this alive if he does. He knows there’s a camera recording this small, lit area of the warehouse. Their bosses want it all and they’re not giving them much leeway but to do their bidding.
Once Blaine speaks, they’ll have what they want – an in to the Anderson estate without breaking a single lock or door. But they like the violence. They would have enjoyed Ancient Rome and the gladiator fights, for they want to see blood and death. They will want to see Blaine’s blood. Blaine’s death.
“Kurt.” Blaine is pleading, voice wet. “Please tell me you didn’t seduce me just for this. Please tell me I didn’t fall for you just to end up here.”
Kurt clenches his fists by his sides and opens his eyes again. There’s a tiny trickle of blood at the corner of Blaine’s mouth. He probably bit his cheek with the last hit.
Rachel turns to stare at Kurt, eyes huge behind her mask. She’s finally catching on. Santana shakes her head, still standing by Kurt’s side.
“Kurt, tell me. Was it all just a lie?” Blaine starts crying, face contorting – he’s not a pretty crier. He looks like a mess and Kurt loves him. He loves him maybe even more than during their nights together, during lazy mornings trading kisses and orgasms, during silly tv shows or duets in the kitchen. He never said the words, trying to gather his courage, and then he got this assignment. Then it was impossible to say anything at all.
“I can’t believe this,” Blaine mutters, as if to himself, and spits blood that splatters right next to his foot.
“Tell us the combination to the gate,” Santana says, stepping in. She clearly sees that Kurt is useless right now.
Blaine lets out a bitter laugh. “You’re too late. See, I told them I was done playing their games, that I was in love with a man, and my code will no longer work.” He turns his eyes from Santana to Kurt and Kurt shivers at the pain and anger there. “See, Kurt. Some of us want to be honest. I got screwed over by my family, but I didn’t care because on the other side there was you. Only for you to screw me over as well. So. Please. Just kill me and get it over with.”
A pained breath escapes from Kurt. He can’t. He won’t. He doesn’t know how to. He will not be able to hurt this man.
“He’s of no use to us,” Santana sighs. “How great. We’re fucked.”
“How do you know he’s not lying?” Rachel asks, stepping closer to Blaine and grabbing his hair. “Maybe he’s just trying to trick us.”
Blaine grimaces. “Oh, ask Kurt. He knows how my family is. They don’t like gay people. I was disowned. You’re free to try ABD9914, but it won’t work.”
“You got what you wanted!” Santana shouts, grabs her pistol from her belt and shoots towards the ceiling. A weird sound and an electric burning smell erupt.
“That was their camera. Let’s get out of here.” She goes to Blaine and starts working on the rope tying him to the chair. Rachel lets go of his hair and bites her lip. Kurt stands still.
“Hawk, that was not smart,” Rachel says. “We’re as good as dead.”
“This is not happening on my watch, pipsqueak. I am not making him kill the man he loves,” Santana says, helping Blaine to his feet. “So sorry, nothing personal, just some very unfortunate business.”
Blaine sighs, twists and stretches his arms. “Apparently. It could have been just business, but someone turned it personal. Was any of it real?” His voice is too loud in Kurt’s ears.
“All of it,” Kurt whispers, breathless, shaken and numb. “I love you and then they forced me to do this.”
“I never knew fashion design included kidnapping and torturing people.”
“Let’s get going,” Santana interrupts. “You can talk on the way. We must clear this place before they come after us.”
Prologue
Thump!
Blaine woke with a start as he fell out of bed.
“Oops!” said his roommate, wincing sympathetically. “Didn’t mean to push you that hard, but you just wouldn’t wake up.”
Blaine groaned and rubbed his sore bottom as he got up, squinting at his alarm clock. “Tina! It’s three o’clock in the morning! Why would you wake me up at this hour?”
“So you could answer your phone. Or silence it. It’s been blaring off and on for at least ten minutes. You’re lucky I haven’t smashed it to bits yet!”
Right on cue, Blaine’s phone went off again. He grabbed it and tapped the Answer button.
“Hey squirt!” Cooper boomed.
“Don’t call me… Coop, why on EARTH are you waking me up in the middle of the night?”
“What? It’s not… Oh, hang on, time difference. Right. Didn’t think of that, squirt, sorry.”
Blaine sighed. “Don’t call me squirt. And okay, I guess you’re filming somewhere at the other side of the world again?”
“Yes, we’re working on that fantasy series for Netflix that I told you about. I’m in Thailand right now. Flying to New Zealand tomorrow. I’m having a total blast.”
“That’s great. Now tell me, what was so important you had to tell me right this minute?”
“Oh! Oh, just you wait, you’re going to LOVE this!”
“Uh-oh,” Blaine mumbled between gritted teeth. “What now?”
Cooper either didn’t hear him, or pretended not to.
“You know how you’re always telling me to stop spending my money on stuff like cars and tech, right?”
Blaine huffed. “And with good reason. You spend an obscene amount on gadgets. And that Bugatti is SO over the top.”
“Exactly!” said Cooper. “Well, now I’ve made a ‘sound investment’, as you call it. Real estate, as you advised.”
Blaine’s heart leapt. “Really? You bought a place in New York? And you’re calling me to ask me if I will move in with you? The answer’s yes!”
Tina put her hands on her hips and glared at him.
“Nah… No. Not exactly.”
Blaine’s sense of misgiving tingled.
“I didn’t buy a house. I bought a hotel. It was a steal, I’m telling you. I couldn’t pass it up!”
“A hotel? Where? Why?”
“Well, I won’t be this pretty forever, you know,” Cooper explained. “And then I might not get booked as an actor anymore. So I needed to find a back-up plan for when I stop being in demand. Talked about it with the guys here over lunch, and Sebastian Smythe, who plays my younger brother in the series we’re filming, said he had a hotel he could sell me. I kind of like the thought of offering people a nice vacation, you know. A home away from home. Maybe I could do a one-man show after dinner. Like they do on cruises. Doesn’t that sound amazing?”
“Yes, yes, that’s all very well, but you’re still filming now. So who’s going to run the hotel?”
“Well, that’s where you come in,” Cooper announced cheerfully. “You’re done with your exams, right? And now you’ve got several months off. So you can go check out the hotel for me. See if the staff that’s in place is okay or needs to be replaced.”
“Coop, are you insane?”
“Think of it as a free vacation, squirt. I’m sure the staff will pamper you once they find out you’re the brother of the new owner!”
Blaine shook his head slowly in disbelief. “Have you even SEEN the place before you bought it?”
“On the website, yes. It looks great!”
“Ugh, Coop! So you saw a couple of pretty pictures on a website and shelled out a fortune sight unseen? How can you be sure the place even exists?”
Cooper chuckled. “Well, of course it exists! The previous owner sent me an Excel spreadsheet with the bookings. It’s booked solid for the rest of the year already! Just think what a fortune I’m going to make!”
Blaine tugged at his curls in frustration, repressing an ungodly urge to strangle his brother. “UN-BE-LIEVE-A-BLE. You are unbelievable! Okay, not everyone has a head for business, but I can’t believe you are THIS much of an idiot! Are you sure you’re actually my brother and George Anderson’s son? Our father would have a conniption if he found out about this!”
“I thought you’d be happy I’d followed your advice.”
Blaine could almost hear his brother’s pout.
He sighed, raking a hand through his hair again.
“I know you meant well. But… Buying a place without even visiting it first is not a good idea, and that’s putting it mildly. There could be all sorts of things wrong with it. If you say you didn’t pay much, that’s quite likely, in fact. This ‘investment’ of yours may be just as useless as that Nintendo Wii Supreme you just had to have.”
“Hey! It’s not useless! I’ve used it a lot!” Cooper protested. “And I’m sure it’s all on the up and up. As I said, the pics on the website look fantastic!”
Blaine pinched the bridge of his nose and suppressed another sigh. Talking to Cooper was very much like talking to a toddler, sometimes.
“Coop … Anyone can copy-paste a couple of nice pictures onto a website. That doesn’t prove anything. Did the realtor give you a virtual tour?”
“Uhm… No.”
“Did you pay someone to do a thorough inspection of the property before you bought it?”
“No.”
“Please tell me that the offer you made had a home inspection contingency, at least?”
“Uhm… No idea.”
Blaine’s voice rose an octave. “A title contingency, to make sure no-one else can claim the property?”
“I don’t know.”
“Did you even so much as look the hotel up on TripAdvisor to see if it had good reviews?”
“Nope, didn’t think of that.”
“Oh, Coop…” Blaine groaned. “What a mess! You need to go there, stat, and check the property from top to bottom. You actually bought it already, right? It’s not just an offer you can withdraw?”
“It’s mine, yes. I signed a contract. But you know I can’t go check the property right now. I’m heading to New Zealand tomorrow, and I’m needed there for at least six more weeks.”
Blaine let his head down, overwhelmed. “Ugh… I’m not awake enough for this. Coop, send me all the info, and the contract, by e-mail. I’ll look it over and see what our options are.”
“I knew I could count on you, squirt. Thanks a lot. I’ll send you everything. And now I’ll let you sleep. Sorry again for waking you up, and talk to you later!”
Cooper rang off, and Blaine was left staring at the phone in his hands in bewilderment.
Tina cocked her head to the side. “So… Your brother bought a hotel? Just like that?”
Blaine nodded. “Just like that. And then recruited me to sort everything out for him. Oh, this is going to be a disaster!”
“Why are you in such a panic about this, Blainey Days? Surely, your brother wouldn’t let himself be duped?”
Blaine groaned. “Oh, yes, he would!”
He patted Tina on the arm. “But that’s my problem, not yours. You can go back to bed, and I’m sorry my idiot brother woke you up like that. I’ll make you pancakes in the morning to make up for it, okay?”
“Okay. G’night.”
Blaine wearily shuffled back to his bed, and was out like a light.
By six a.m., though, he was awake again, worrying.
After half an hour of tossing and turning, he got up quietly and started up his computer.
Cooper had sent the files, as requested.
The contract did not have a home inspection contingency nor a title contingency, as Blaine had feared.
The hotel wasn’t in a nice touristy location. It was in the middle of nowhere. A place called Lima, Ohio.
Also, the hotel had certainly not been a “steal”. Cooper must have sunk a lot of capital into it.
The photos on the website did look good, yes, but as soon as Blaine checked the reviews about the hotel on TripAdvisor, he knew they had to be fake.
All of the reviews were negative. And it was bad. Worse even than Blaine had feared.
The mildest complaint was one about the lack of free Wi-Fi. It went steadily downhill from there.
Guests complained about the hotel being overbooked. About dirty and stinky rooms. About a faulty outlet that fried their shaver. About bed bugs and cockroaches. About leaking taps that kept them up all night. About wanting a nice hot shower and only getting freezing cold water. About noisy neighbours that kept them up all night because the walls were so flimsy you could hear everything through them. About beds that creaked with every move they made and mattresses so old and thin their back was in knots. About sweltering heat in summer and bone-deep cold in winter, because the air conditioning units didn’t work. About the stale bread and lukewarm coffee they got for breakfast. About seeing mice in the restaurant. About rude staff that would come into their room without even knocking or that were accused of stealing money and a phone charger. About the lack of elevators and ramps for wheelchairs. And a blind person complained about their assistance dog not being let in.
When he’d read all of the scathing reviews, Blaine let out his breath in a big woosh.
 Oh, Cooper, what have you done now?
Blaine felt like banging his head on the table in frustration, but refrained, choosing to get started on the pancakes instead.
When Tina emerged from her bedroom and saw how unhappy her roommate looked, she steered him towards a kitchen chair to give him a shoulder massage, saying, “Tell me all about it, Bee.”
So Blaine told her everything.
She whistled low. “I know the place. I grew up in Lima. And that hotel was where I lost my virginity after prom.”
Blaine shuddered. “TMI!”
Tina laughed. “Oh please! That’s something everyone does in high school. Get over yourself!”
Blaine wouldn’t meet her eyes, thinking of the only school dance he’d ever been to and how that had ended.
“Not everyone,” he mumbled.
“Well, anyway,” said Tina, “the place was a dump even then. I’d say sell it again immediately. But who’s going to want it? And even if someone does, they’ll pay a lot less than your brother did, so he’ll lose a lot of money.”
“Yep.”
“Can he afford to lose that much money?”
“Nope.”
Tina clacked her tongue. “Then we’ll have to do what we can to save the situation.”
“We?”
Tina put her hands on her hips. “Yes, well, unlike SOME people, I believe in roommate solidarity. Don’t think I didn’t hear you, telling Cooper you’d move in with him!”
“I meant for you to come with me, of course,” Blaine tried weakly, but Tina wasn’t having it, sending him a fierce glare.
Blaine looked down and swallowed, remembering how happy he’d been for a moment before Cooper had dashed his hopes. “Sorry. I just… I saw myself living in one of those pretty brownstones, and I jumped the gun. Sorry. As it happens, you don’t need to be scared I’ll leave you in the lurch. If I want a brownstone, I’ll have to buy one with my own money one day. Cooper’s proved once again that I shouldn’t count on him. And I was a fool to think I could, even for a split second. He’s an idiot, and all he ever does is make my life difficult. I should know that by now. He’s proved it so many times.”
“Aww, don’t be so hard on him.”
Blaine put a pancake on his plate and drowned it in syrup. Then he started shovelling big bites into his mouth, chewing with vigour and determinedly not looking at Tina.
“Blaine, don’t be like that. He made a mistake. We all do that, don’t we?”
Blaine swallowed a piece of pancake and retorted, “Our mistakes don’t cost millions of dollars. That’s the difference.”
“Well, he’ll make more millions, won’t he? How much does he get for that acting job he’s doing now?”
Blaine shrugged. “Dunno. But it had better be a lot, if we’re to renovate the hotel he bought. Let me first check with Monique if we can get that contract voided, though. I don’t think we’ll be that lucky, but it won’t hurt to check.”
“Who’s Monique?”
“She works for my father,” Blaine clarified. “Has done so for years. She’s like part of the family. I’ve known her since I was very little. Played with her daughter in my father’s office.”
“Hmm, so how could she help you? And why would she?”
“Monique has a soft spot for me,” Blaine smiled, thinking of all the scrapes with his father she’d gotten him out of. “And she knows this stuff like the back of her hand. She does everything that’s to do with real estate for my father. Buying, selling, finding contractors for renovation works, buying furniture for buildings, you name it, she does it.”
Tina cocked her head to the side. “Why didn’t Cooper contact her then, if he wanted to buy a hotel?”
“Coop’s more of a split-second decision kind of guy,” Blaine told her. “Never looks before he leaps. And then he looks to me to solve the problems he’s created. It’s exhausting.”
“You’d think he were the younger brother,” Tina giggled.
“Yep. He’s almost forty, but he still has the impulse control of a four-year-old.”
After breakfast and doing the dishes, Blaine called Monique and explained the situation, sending her all the documents. She confirmed what he thought – there was no backing out of the contract anymore.
Ugh.
“Could you check if the place is Cooper’s outright, please?” Blaine asked. “Seeing as there’s no title contingency, there’s no knowing who else might have a claim on it.”
“I’ll look into it,” Monique said, “but I don’t think you need to worry about that.”
“Oh, and please don’t tell our father about this, Monique, okay?” Blaine implored her. “He’d go ballistic, and even though Coop is a moron, I don’t want him dead.”
Monique laughed and promised not to breathe a word about it to Mr. Anderson. “And if you need any help fixing the place up, you know who to call. Glad to help, whatever you need!”
“Well, the first thing we’re going to need is pest control. So if you know a good pest control firm over there in Ohio?”
Monique hummed and click-clacked on her keyboard for a minute or two. Then she said, “We’ve worked with Orkin, based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Did the job well. I’ll e-mail you their contact information. What else?”
“An HAVC specialist, a handyman and an electrician to fix all sorts of stuff, and a reliable plumber. Oh, and another thing… You buy loads of office furniture and supplies cheap in auctions, right? When companies go bust and their assets are sold to pay the debts?”
“That’s right. Want me to look for hotel stuff for you?”
“Yes, please. Furniture, mattresses, quality linens, you name it, we’re going to need it. Thanks, Monique!”
Monique chuckled. “It’s your brother who should say thank you. The things we do for that boy, right?”
“Right,” Blaine sighed. “Looks like I’m heading to Ohio for the summer. I’ll keep you posted, Monique, and thanks again!”
