What are your thoughts on the kkm anime?

I’m on the 3rd season and it’s not my favorite (I’m okay with the anime since that’s how I learned about kkm)

Not a big fan of the anime, but it was an introduction to the series for me, and everything got better afterwards.

It's easier to consume the anime than any other format, so it's a good gateway to the novels.

If I were to put in order from better to worse which format of the series I like best I'd say : 1. novels (canon) 2. novels turn to drama cd (sometimes even better than the novels) 3. theater version (maomyu) 4. manga (pretty pics) 5. anime (helps visualize characters) I think the anime helps people make scenarios in their head for their faves. It would be way harder to visualize the characters doing stuff if you just had novels, manga, or cds. The anime gives a visual and auditory mental image to each character.

I can hear the characters voices while reading the novels (in Japanese), and usually visualize them with the fluidity and colors of the anime, but the shape of the manga. Idk, I think watching the anime is an important step to enjoying the series, even though the plot is trash. It's better to get it out of the way first.

So I'm house sitting right, and I guess my sister has that Samsung TV plus whatever and it has 2 channels for anime (one retro rewind and then other one just anime idk idc)

Retro rewind is playing Kyo Kara Maoh later, and I was pleasantly surprised bc fucking LOVED KKM back in the day but then the thought of "hey they rebooted trigun and fruits basket maybe they will with KKM" but idk I'm mixed of they ever do that (I kinda doubt it but I mean...I kinda doubted trigun getting a revival compared to something like fruits basket so who knows)

On one hand I'm loving the renewed love for Trigun (I'll watch the new one but the older anime is my beloved) and I haven't watched new FB but that received favorable reviews and goes further that the old anime did (I read the manga after the old anime ended).

But I rather see new anime and not fall too heavy on reboots (God knows I loath disney and their reboots...) idk I'm conflicted. Unlike what Disney is doing, anime has new shows coming out left and right. So I'm not as hateful on reboots bc honestly, it's just another "new" anime out. But I also don't want to fall into a rebooting cycle either! Ugh idk.

I'm still mad that they didn't finish translating KKM manga 😒 I have 7 of the manga before Tokyo pop went down.

Number 5's a tie between Wonder Egg (absolutely had me gripped but lowkey lost me with the reveal of the villain - kinda wanted it to be a psychological/social commentary thing instead of having an actual villain yknow?) & Sk8 the Infinity which has such a silly premise but also had me incredibly hyped throughout it's run

Nothing has made me constantly sob like this from literally episode one

3. Demon Slayer

Look, it's just good. Gorgeous animation & art style, fun characters, tragic in just the right ways, gorgeous fight scenes

2. Jujutsu Kaisen

A shonen where (as far as I've seen throughout S1) the female characters aren't oddly hyper-sexualized, are as unhinged as the male characters, are stupid as the male character, where the main girl is given absolutely spine tingling fight scenes within the first season itself!? No obvious love interest!? Also gorgeous animation & bonus points for outright referring naruto & bleach

1. Haikyuu

NOTHING HAS EVER GIVEN ME THE HYPE THAT HAIKYUU HAS!? No anime OR show has ever had me at the edge of the seat as watching a haikyuu match! No anime protagonist has ever made me feel genuinely proud of them the way hinata & the others have! I think it's because haikyuu actually gives you a (respectively) more realistic look into what progress looks like? How gruelling and even embarrassing it is when you're trying to get better at something everyone says you can't do. And the hype it creates during the matches? *chef's kiss* The opening songs are gorgeous too and it somehow makes me care about an insanely long list of side characters. Plus I usually always watch the sub for anime but this is definitely one of the moments where the dub is just Art™. I've never heard teenagers in anime sound more like teenagers

I also really like bnha & kkm but not the anime? I dunno, there's a disconnect between the manga art style & the anime art style that put me off the anime. Plus kkm's anime was gay in a lowkey homophobic way while the manga (& novels) were just gay? There's also, weirdly enough, quite an overlap between kkm's MC & OM!'s MC

Hello! I think you're now the Yuuram prophet XD so I think you can help me with this. Is it ever explained what is exactly the Maou? I mean the Maou who shares a soul with Yuuri. What is it exactly? Where did it come from? Why was Cheri the previous Maou if technically Julia was the vessel before Yuuri? It just never made sense to me because the anime never explained it

Hello! Oh wow! Plot points explanations, okay.

The 'maous' are just a 'kings/queens' chosen by Shinou to rule the land. (this has nothing to do with being 'keys/vessels')

The 'keys'(vessels that you were talking about) are people with 'pieces of soushu' attached to 'souls' that 'open the boxes that contain the soushu'. These people were NOT related to Shinou.

The soushu according to the novels and the MaHon Encyclopedia Maru-mania (you can google that to find it) are 'entities that tried to swallow the entire world'. So when they were defeated by Shinou and a 'group of brave people' they were sealed into four boxes.

Why Cherie? Well… Cherie gave birth to 3 out of the 4 keys for Shinou and (in a cd "Secret" (written by the author) and novel story Gaiden04, Chapter 7.1, ) it is implied that Cherie is Shinou's descendant. This means Cherie following Shinou's command had 3 keys with potentially his blood (this is likely to be a plot point, but we never got there in the novels). (And she probably wouldn't have been able to do so if she wasn't the maou.)

-In 56. Kyou Kara MAou! Seisakoku DX! Return Trip, Disc 01 , track 8 Shinou and the Great Sage (these cds were written BY the author, also I think this is in manga?), Shinou and Daikenja talk and you can see why Murata left with boxes and keys…

-Shinou is just a 'strategist' trying to get all the boxes and keys back. And if you ask me, making the keys have his blood through Cherie just has something to do with that.

-Also in one of the gaidens, I think Gaiden 2, it's said that Yuuri's parents were chosen according to Shinou's specifications. So Shinou wanted something from Yuuri's parents specifically *(it's not said what), and chose them to make the body for the soul with the key.

-What about the 'maou' (Uesama)? According to the encyclopedia

"Uesama (上様)The personality that appears when Yuuri activates the super maou mode. It has a low-pitched voice, speaks in difficult and complicated words, with the characteristics of half-assed historical drama lines. (Novel 2) "

It's interesting to note that they listed his first appearance in the SECOND novel although there was a Uesama in the first novel (when he fights Wolf)

Lastly about Yuuri and soushu: Murata tells Yuuri in Gaiden 4 - Chapter 7,2 about how Yuuri 'may end up like him' , with all the voices of the previous lives in his head (and maybe taking over him)? So that he needs to be careful . I think this is mentioned again in Prison arc.

Lastly, it's important to remember that when the novels started the author had NOT thought about the boxes plot at all, or vessels or anything like that.

The OG reason why someone became maou was "because Shinou said so".

Edit to add: Furthermore Julia was probably a newborn when Cherie was named maou (Julia was about Gwen's age I believe?). Also, sending Conrad to retrieve the arm could have been part of Shinou's plot, killing Julia and using it as a way to make Connie get Berard's arm. (He traveled with one key : Julia, and came back with the other key: the arm), seems like keys and boxes can both travel easily.
