Usagi Yojimtober Day 26 - Foolish innocence
She means danger!!!
I was thinking, If Jotaro is more than a half like Usagi, then he would inherit his luck with ladies... With all that that implies.
Usagi doesn't disapprove, but he's having serious thoughts about his son's taste in girls.

Just realized literally all of the main characters of The Usagi Chronicles are orphans. Chizu and Hana, kidnapped from orphanages by the Neko Ninja Crew. Kitsune, a poor orphan thief on the streets, classic Aladdin, slept in a trash can. Usagi, raised by his Auntie, parents mentioned once. Gen and Toshiko, their parents left and their family fell apart. Technically even Kiyoko.

Oc in A Broken Clan (abc)
Most of these ocs do not technically belong to me, but my friend (that I can not remember the tag of- (pookie, help me-)). I just keep forcing ocs into abc bc I can-
We are gonna start with Alejandro (he/they) bc he is my only TMNT oc-
Alejandro is a Gila monster Yokai that semi adopted the turtles after (REDACTED)
He is in his late 50s
Had a daughter, but she died before the start of the story
Works for Big Mama/the Foot Clan
Loser old man
Anyways, moving on from losers-
Non of the next ocs are mine,
(Pookie, make yourself known to people as the owner of the ocs, please-)
Nikci! (She/he)
Nicki is a King Vulture Mutant and the Sibling of the turtles
3 years older than Leo and Donnie, so about 22/23
Is dating and engaged with another oc that’ll show up later
Worked for Big Mama before (REDACTED)
Champion of the Battel Nexus after (REDACTED)
Next up
Kyioko (she/her)
Kiyoko is technically a Kitsune, but for now only a Fox Yokai
The same age as Leo and Donnie, 19 years
Was sent by the Foot Clan to kill the turtles (fails and falls for one of them instead-)
Oh yeah, works for the Foot
Current youngest of her Family
Next
Aurora (she/they)
Aurora is a Kirin
A year older than Nikci, so 23/24
A high noble of the Hidden City
Family helps make the cloaking beads/pearls (the abc version of the cloaking brooch form ROTTMNT)
Dating and engaged with Nicki
And lastly
Nebulia (she/her)
Nova (Nickname for Nebulia) is a Shark (specifically a thresher shark) Yokai
Same age as Leo and Donnie, 19-20 years
Will eventually date Leo and Usagi (stfu, they are polyamorous)
Fights in the new Battle Nexus after (REDACTED)
Newest addition to abc-
Anyways, that was all the ocs in abc and this post is getting so long that my iPad is struggling to write anything (very laggy-)

Something that I found kind of funny about season 2 of the Usagi Chronicles is the sort of running joke that none of the characters had any idea what Kiyoko even was, they were just like 'yeah Kitsune found a sort of weird sentient orb thing & adopted it & we are rolling with it because this is what makes her happy'.

it's so funny how some UY panels have nothing to do with the chapter's story
like this one right here
would this be the oneshot were usagi and jotaro meet kitsune and kiyoko while the girls are stealing some gangsters?

Until I came across a stack of recent collections at my local library, I hadn't read any Usagi Yojimbo for a few years -- I knew I'd missed all of the recent full-color collections, but not that I'd also missed a few from the end of the series at Dark Horse, back when it was still published in black-and-white. If you haven't read any for a while, either, the series is as good as ever, and as much as I liked the old uncolored books the newer collections are fabulous, too. These are the three I liked best.
Usagi Yojimbo: Mysteries (Volume 32) by Stan Sakai. Introduction by Yuki Matsuzaki. Dark Horse, 2018. 9781506705842. 180pp plus a cover/pinup gallery. Contains #159-165 of UY Volume 3.
Usagi comes across a dead, high-ranking samurai in the woods, and finds a little girl hiding nearby. On his way to take her to Inspector Ishida, they're accosted by some samurai who want the girl and even go so far as to attack Usagi when he's buying her a meal. It's a huge mistake and only the beginning of a larger mystery that starts with finding the girl's father's confession. Thieves Kiyoko and Kitsune make an appearance, and of course my favorite scenes are the "The Body in the Library" chapters.
Usagi Yojimbo: Homecoming (Volume 35) by Stan Sakai, colors by Tom Luth. Introduction by Peach Momoko. IDW, 2021. 9781684058020. Contains #8-14 of UY Volume 4.
This volume starts with a graphic lesson on how tatami mats are made, which plays into the plot. Usagi heads to the north province where he grew up. He crosses paths with samurai transporting new tatami mats for Lord Gifu, who will use them as part of a tea ceremony for an emissary of the shogun. When the samurai are attacked, Usagi helps defend the tatami from the ninja. Later Usagi is pursued because he continues to wear the mon of Lord Mifune, which begins a journey to his home village, Mariko (the woman he loved), and Kenichi, his childhood friend and rival. Katsuichi-sensei (Usagi's teacher) and Jotaro, who is secretly now Usagi's son, also make appearances. The best part of the color version: seeing the blue Usagi wears during the fight scenes.
Usagi Yojimbo: Tengu War! (Volume 36) by Stan Sakai, art assist by Randy Clute, colors by Hi-Fi Design. Introduction by Kevin Eastman. IDW, 2022. 9781684058754. Contains #15-21 of UY Volume 4.
Usagi seeks his other master, a one-handed tengu named Sojobo. There's a flashback to how Usagi earned the right to be trained by him, and, in the present day, as you might guess from the title, Usagi finds himself in the midst of a war between supernatural creatures. Toward the end of the story he meets someone from his past, from just as he fled the battlefield with Lord Mifune's head. And then Usagi meets Yukichi, who remembers when their paths crossed years ago.

So I finished Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles just for the sake of trying something new.
The 3d art and action weren’t so bad. I love how they use 2D art to emphasize certain themes. I understand why some people would find Usagi’s eyes creepy, but I don’t mind (the fine details, like the ridges on his nose, were kind of distracting, though). I really appreciate how Usagi has monolid eyes, and his voice has an accent (unrelated, his voice is so soft!).
The show’s target age group seems to be younger than Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The plot was okay, and they tied up loose ends at the end of Season 2 (looking at you, Netflix). I also love how the other characters have their own relevant arcs that go well with the main plot. Gen with his family ties, Chizu with the orphan girls and the Neko Ninja clan, and Kitsune and her friendship-botto Kiyoko.
There was a ship tease between Usagi and Chizu, but I don’t find myself caring for it. It feels so heteronormative when Chizu and Kitsune have more chemistry with their personalities and how involved and supportive Kitsune is with Chizu’s arc.

hi! Do you have personal headcanon about Yuichi? (and maybe about his friends)
You have no idea how glad I am to be asked this! I have many actually:
Yuichi Usagi
Yuichi got his scar from Spot. I 100% believe they didn't get along at first and bro got a little fiesty w him and he ended up losing some of his eyebrow. It was a silly thing and Yuichi wasn't mad about it in the slightest. The scar is something fond to him now, it reminds him of how far they've come.
Speaking of Spot I like to believe he's a tokage that's passed down through generations. He was Usagi's first and he was then given to others once he passed. Again this would maybe explain why they didn't get along at first, he misses Miyamoto Usagi. I don't think he was officially given to him until he was about maybe about 7 or so.
This one's a bit darker but with how important honor is in Japan and how little Yuichi's parents are mentioned I'm thinking they broke away from the whole samurai thing. Maybe Auntie convinced them since she still brings them up once. When someone's shunned they're never brought up which is something Yuichi surprising does...and it can make sense honestly. Since he cares so much about becoming the best samurai of course he wouldn't think highly of them for running from that.
Since Yuichi grew up with comics depicting Miyamoto Usagi's life as a samurai/ronin I think he definitely got inspired by them. He got into drawing and is a pretty decent artist now because of it. You can't tell me he doesn't have oodles of drawings he's done of his ancestor. And as a kid maybe even made little comics of him and Miyamoto Usagi going on adventures together. His Auntie probably helped him bind his pages together and found it all very cute, 100% supporting everything.
The Squad
Having been grown an orphan and under ninjas I bet Chizu doesn't have much, if any, experience with any holidays. She was probably forced to train nonstop during those days. So one big memory for her is finally celebrating the new year outside with all her friends.
Kiyoko is probably Yuichi's number one sparring partner being such a power biomech. Sometimes he manages to dent her but it's treated as a win, not something to freak out over. Though Kitsune sometimes acts protective over her little sister when this happens and goes after Yuichi. Yuichi has to spend a long time assuring her everything is okay.
Kitsune spends a lot of time with Yuichi, they like to come up with crazy ideas and then execute them without really thinking things through. Usually Chizu has to dive in and get them out of trouble. She scolds them after but is easier on Kitsune, definitely not for biased reasons.
Gen cleans everyone's weapons when they're not looking, he doesn't like the idea of grime piling up on things they use often. He doesn't let them see though because he knows they'll make it harder for him from then on.
#veespeaks#anon ask#samurai rabbit#usagi chronicles#headcanons#yuichi usagi#bonus content in tags: I have some more lowkey thoughts#I know Miyamoto is Usagis last name buuuut I don't think Usagi is Yuichis first name#mainly by how he's called Usagi by people who just meet him + aren't close etc#ik it's a branding thing but going by Japan logic it's cuz it's his last name#and yeah Auntie calls him that but maybe he requested it to feel close his ancestor#honestly I like to imagine when Usagi passed the family tried to get their family name changed in honor of him#whether they did legal stuff or hunted it down via marriage is beyond me#but there we go lol ty for the ask

Neo Edo and batteries?
Just realized this morning - by the end of season 2, aren't the small appliances in the city also powered down during night? 🤔
But lol I can only guess that the citizens prob use those smaller batteries in the household for things like refrigerators and other smaller machines.
From this and the episodes featuring the temple and the Ashibasha, we can only assume; the batteries can power either one big unit (Ashi and Kiyoko) or one whole room (seemingly? from the ep “Common Sensei” where Kitsune is seen lugging one battery to the temple and back)
“These batteries itch...” like it’s an interesting use for them bc it implies that before Usagi came to town and wrecked stuff up and swept everyone along for fixing a 1000 year old issue, the Ki-stone must have been experiencing blackouts and fluctuations enough to warrant backup batteries, being plugged into the cities power-supplies on the constant. After going wireless at the end of S1, this becomes a non-issue.
like there’s no battery here, but if the Ki-stone is the only thing powering these appliances, they’d have to find a use for those batteries used before the Ki-stone was restored to full power, I guess. just some thoughts!
(basically, i only thought of this bc I was worried our own electricity had been turned off again bc I saw the refridgerator had a bit of water inside lol xD)
