That's it. I've found my most favorite Cdrama character of the year. Do I love everything about him? No. Is he very relatable? No. Is he the best acting performance of the year? No. But heavens forbid if Master Li is written in a way that is just SO understandable and consistent for the setup of a sunny fearless youth who became an immortal and grew weary and bored with time, and decided to just stop with immortality and take one more chance at truly enjoying the mortal world so he could die satisfied. He's just so fucking intriguing to me I could write a 5 page essay about him! I guess I have already written about 2.5!

Dingzhi baby I wish you stop trying to hoard all your grievances and responsibilities in your heart all alone 😔 Tbh can't blame him, that's what happens when you were brutally stripped from your family and friends as a child and grew up with noone but an equally sad master, it stops occurring to you that you need to depend on other people sometimes. Listed roughly in order from most to I guess 6th most, I found grubbin very charming and I do love vikavolt but if I'm picking one from the line I just gotta love chargabug being both a battery, a bus and a compact little guy.

Rotom rules because electric poltergeists are fun and I love the variety of forms, flaffy is some movie nostalgia, enjoying the static electricity wool idea and some nostalgia for having one (eventually ampharos) in soul silver. Toxtricity gets points for being electric guitar pokemon and the closest I'm gonna get to metal rep (even if they are more punk rock) and the other two are riding the train of just being based on irl animals I like.

Aerial Ace: Favorite Flying types(s)

This one is in less particular order than the first in terms of faves because I kept remembering things and changing my mind.

Love gyrados, a childhood fave and sure the little guy into cool big scary guy is a common trope but they're the og! and also a threatening wind sock. Gyrados rocks. Love Honchkrow, maybe my top 1 favourite flying? The mafia don theme is fun and its just got such great personality.

Yanmega is a prehistoric bug that kicks ass and does a great job conveying that irl dragonflies are apex predators. Vullaby is fucking adorable and I love its fucking, human skull nappy. Perfect goth baby. Drifloon is a hillariously ghoulish little It balloon. Mega pinsir is a great glow up for one of the favorite original bugs and is such an outright demonic looking bug pokemon but despite how it looks its one of the only megas that doesn't have an entry about being in pain, fucked up or more aggressive, its just fucking zoomies

Shadow Ball: Favorite Ghost types(s)

Mimikyu is favourite number one, its adorable, its ability is fun, is a great meta commentary on pikaclone mascot attempts, my perfect aesthetic of creepy cute love it. Houndstone aesthetically is so good and I wish there was actual art of it I could grab. Phantump is cool, cute and a wonderfully dark pokedex entry, love to have Evan on my team.

Phantump is finally a jackolanturn pokemon and I love the route of not just making the face the carving but doing a fun little black cat/bat thing with it! Halloween! Huge fan of OG bannete the scuzzy little haunted puppet and its fucked up gimp mouth and mega bannette just expands on that more and more, it kicks ass and looks like you let 12 year old me design it (complementary). Duskull is really fun, the one eye pendulum swinging in the skull, its cool little mask, very cute/creepy. Huge fan of dusclops as well but for different reasons and then unfortuantly dusknoir gets too busy for me. Does mean I can eviolite dusclops tho!

Cherish Ball: Favorite Gen IV Pokémon

Activates my secret autism power of having already compiled in a doc my favourites of each gen, ask only asks for one though so gotta give it to my man toxicroak

delightfully slimy little smile, pleasing colour scheme, love a toxic toad and his fucked up little claws.

Ultra Ball: Favorite Pseudo-legendary(ies)

Apparently Volcarona doesn't technically count as one but fuck bulbapedia its the only bug one and it has the stats, high level to hang. Moth light obsession/khepri sun god bug theming is sick. It rules and it counts. Tyranitar and Dragonite are both here from childhood nostalgia for the show and leaf green respectively, I love that Tyranitar is godzilla and mean and I love that one of the strongest of the first pokemon and only dragon type was just a chubby guy. Garchomp is a cool land shark, star on it feels unnecessary, Hydreigon is a cool fucked up and evil hydra dragon with head hands and tatered wings, really love the ghost dinosaur concept of dragapult so it gets to be number 6 I'm just not actually that into the stealth bomber aesthetic.

But specifically in my mind the people involved in the actual paternity are a married couple and someone that joined them to be their third, and Clan Elders are throwing a fit about how the baby might not be the heir by blood! while the actual parents are like "I could not care less, this is our child, all three of us, please stop getting involved."

HashiMitoMada would be a VERY good option for the paternity nonsense, mostly because I can see Madara screeching at his own elders about how he already said Izuna would be his heir and he's not changing his mind!

Tobirama is just begging the paternity test to work faster off-screen because he's the only person with the machines to make it happen.

The victim was Danzo. Even the prosecution isn't actually that interested in making sure someone gets arrested, but they're legally obligated to do at least try. A bunch of people all acting really suspicious about who killed him. There is at least one shitty fake mustache-on-glasses disguise to provide a paper-thin alibi.

WAIT The other thing this gives us is ninjas in three-piece-suits but half of them wear the suits wrong. I’m talking mismatched buttons. The wrong way of tying their tie. Sewn-on-cufflinks. This is Naruto, for instance.

Tobirama would wear it properly, except he's rushing about in a lab coat, screaming at everyone to get out of his way because he's The Entire Forensics Team.

(This is the part where I have to confess that I have only seen the live-action movie of Phoenix Wright, as I don't game, so I just have the live action and tumblr osmosis.)

At this point, of course, we gotta ask: Who is the most Belligerent Witness And who is the Helpful™️ Witness that's super enthusiastic but entirely useless

I can see, say, Mito being a solid witness that both defense and prosecution are really thankful for.

Modern gen you have like... Sasuke and Neji are both incredibly belligerent witnesses. Neji at least is polite about it but pulls the "only answers with the absolute minimum of information."

Lee and Gai would have the over enthusiasm but forget to say actual vital testimony until pressed, and Naruto would love to help but might not be entirely sure what the case even is.

Shikamaru falls asleep when the lawyers consult their partners. Prosecution A consults Prosecution B for thirty-seven seconds, then turns around and the witness is asleep at the stand.

Tobi (as in Obito with mask) is an incredibly frustrating witness. They have to declare a recess just so all the lawyers can recover their blood pressure. "Can we please get someone up on the stand with this guy as a handler? I'm--I'm going to explode."

Gaara: Helpful. Polite. Answers with detail. Answers the spirit of the question as well as the letter. Includes more detail. That's too much detail. Gaara please stop telling us about the sounds that bones make.

His testimony just drags on forever.

ABURAME TRANSLATING FOR A RANDOM GIANT CENTIPEDE THAT WITNESSED A MURDER IN THE FOREST OF DEATH

There are arguments about whether or not the testimony can count since nobody else can confirm the translation except Other Aburame so how do they know the Aburame aren't part of the coverup.

Also, Orochimaru answers with pretty much the exact kind of wording as Gaara, but where Gaara is trying to be helpful and provide detail for the sake of the case, and failing to see that it's maybe not necessary, Orochimaru just wants to see people squirm. ...similar thing happens with Sakura and Kabuto. Similar phrasing, very different energy.

Suigetsu would be great at blood splatter analysis. ...I think I read somewhere that blood spatter analysis is actually over in 'fake science that's pushed by cops and media but actually doesn't work' BUT apparently it’s in the Ace Attorney games so we’re going to ignore reality a bit. We’ve already got dogs and rabbits and centipedes as witnesses, what’s a bit of blood spatter?

He's also probably really good at cause of death stuff? Like looking at corpse and figuring out how long it took the victim to die, which blow did it, whether any damage was inflicted post-mortem, etc.

Sasuke is usually too busy playing Belligerent Witness but sometimes goes to join Taka for... uh... reasons.

One time they need Juugo but can't find him even though court is already in session and he said he'd be here, turns out he was lured away by Kakashi's army of dogs. Kakashi didn't notice until he turned to ask Pakkun if he could help find the missing expert.

Juugo is a decent lab assistant, I think?

Tobirama taking on Team Taka as his forensics team while Orochimaru is... hm... traveling the country to promote his new autobiography, which is outselling the newest Icha Icha to Jiraiya's ire.

Sloane suggested “a case where it's all the Sannin as suspects in a murder. They would be THE WORST, say... the murder of Hanzo.”

To which I suggested “The Sannin are all suspects but the people on trial are the Ame trio, maybe?”

Which garnered the response of “It could be a surprise upset IN COURT that the trio should be on trial.”

Suigetsu finds out that the cause of death was actually an entirely natural heart attack, but while he was determining this, the rest of the team and the lawyers found like eight conspiracies by Zetsu, three by Danzo, four by Orochimaru, and an entire network of nonsense by Sasori.

So there was this chick who Shivji decides to make the veryyyyyyyyyyyy first Naagin ever, and gives her some powers and shit (what powers, beyond turning into a snake???? Beats me.) She had a SnakeMan boo-thang as well. But there was a Cheel Prince obsessed with her, and he kills her Snake Boyfriend (Snoyfriend?) so she flings him into some Dark Void and then kills herself too. Coz what is life without men?????????? (Bliss, pure and simple bliss. You know how much I’d enjoy life if I was a Snake Lady who didn’t have to put up with men???? HELLA LOTS.)

Anyway, a gajillion years later all these ppl are reborn. (Ugh, the janam-mrityu chakra. How to escape, pls to tell, I would like to get off this ride that I did notttttt buy a ticket for.) Snake Girl is Bani, Snoyfriend is Jai, and Cheel Boy is Veeranshu. Bani loses her parents in some plane crash and is adopted by some family - a dad she calls Papa, an adoptive mom she calls Chachi (coz Chachi hates Bani and doesn’t wanna be called Mom), and three sisters; Meera, Mahek, and Dahek. (Mahek Dahek are ridiculously bad Gen Z stereotypes who only care about makeup and partying and boys.) Allllllll these ppl meet at some wedding where Cheelanshu strides in saying he slept with the bride and there’s lots of panga between Cheelanshu and Snoyfriend. The bride ends up dead and Bani sees Cheelanshu and his brothers thikaane lagaofying the laash. Anyway, Cheel Family (Members: Daddy Cheel, Chachu Cheel. Daddy ke bete hain Veer & Tapish; Chachu ke bete hain Daksh, Monil, Ponky. Saath mein ek live-in chamcha bhi hai Shukla bolke.........) is very diverse in their business dealings, they run an alcohol empire and a pub and also have some human/sex trafficking on the side, unknown to Righteous Cheel Prince Cheelanshu. Bani hates him from first sight, he loves her and keeps following her around like a chaep. There’s some randomness in between where he saves her from some explosion while she’s unconscious, and Bani and Jai remember they’re Snoulmates (Snake Soulmates) by doing one ridiculous fucking dance. They decide ki Cheel Family ko mitaana hi hai, but they cannot attack them until the Cheels attack first. (Thanks Shivji for all these useless clauses in contract. Vardaan nahi, yeh toh iTunes ka terms and conditions ho gaya.) So they have to keep biding their time till they can murder some cheels. Cheel Boy brings proposal for Bani’s sister to make her jealous and Bani decides to marry Snoyfriend. Blah blah blah, kuch kuch ho jaata hai, Bani sees Jai being thrown off a cliff by the Cheels, suddenly from somewhere one twin brother of Veer’s comes and attacks Bani and she’s like yisssssssssssss, thinking it’s Veer and attacks him. But it’s not actually her who kills him, it’s Namak Haraam Shukla. Veer enters screaming and crying about his brother and Bani’s like wtf who did I kill then????? Anyway Veer and her marry each other to exact revenge on each other. (What other reason is there to get married anyway??) Jai is ultimately not dead and is now like mwahahahahha I hate Bani coz a woman in power is unimaginable to me as a Desi Man, even if I am a snake too. I wanna kill her so I can get her Aadinaagin powers (what powers???? He literally already has the same power she does, of turning into a snake.) He does random absolute fail saazishishein with Shukla and a Hot Morni called Mayuri (BABE I MISS YOU MOST PLS COME BACK) to kill Veer/Bani. Meanwhile Veer finds out Bani didn’t kill twin and is like oh ok cool my conscience now allows me to love her with no guilt. No more revenge, only pyaar pyaar pyaaaar. Bani still hates him tho. Phir Veer waale actor ko COVID ho gaya toh puraane yug waala Cheel Prince comes back pretending to be him (brought by Snoyfriend and team) and does some mindfuckery and Bani is like this ain’t my husbanddddddd; he’s a different flavour of bastard than this one in front of me. I like my regular Lemon-Lime Chutiya instead of this Blackberry flavoured one. Hathaapaai and what not and Lemon-Lime Cheel boy comes back and murders imposter and saves Bani. Uneasy peace between hubs and wifey. Phir aata hai reveal ki she’s a Naagin and he’s like I love her anyway and protects her from his murderous family. Snoyfriend comes and starts living with them at Cheel Mansion for some reason and him and Cheel Boy have mad banter 24/7. The best part of the show.

Anyway aaj kal Veer ki long lost Mummy aayi hui hai (and she calls herself Markaat, even though she’s not the real Markaat, that’s someone else the Cheel Fam worships or something..... Idk man, idk...........) Anyway she’s a half cheel half naagin and also Snoyfriend’s mom, so surprise surprise, Bickering Boys are Brothers!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She wants to kill Bani to get her AadiNaagin powers (again, WHAT DAMN POWERS????????? I DON’T SEE NOTHING OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT SHE CAN TURN INTO A GIANTASS SNAKE. WHICH YOU CAN ALSO DO, AUNTYJI. SO LITERALLY WTF POWERS ARE YOU ALL GOING ON ABOUT HERE?????????) but Bros Before Hoes Mom unite to save mutual love interest. Hi I love FE!!! There’s a lot of good primers you can read so I’ll try not to re-tread those and just give my opinion of what I enjoy the most in formula e! I’m literally just getting into it so this is gonna be broad / early impressions!

1. The innovation! 

Technology and development is fascinating in F1 but in formula e it’s even MORE compelling to hear about imo because it’s like... in F1, innovation will stay largely within F1! In FE some of this is literally the technology of the future that will one day be adapted into our everyday lives being developed in front of our eyes. Like I am FASCINATED by the flood lights in Diriyah this weekend being powered by vegetable oil! 

I started watching season 1 onward to get into FE ahead of this new season and it is just so utterly compelling and fascinating to see how far electric car technology has come in almost 7 years! F1 has been fairly stable for a long time now but watching FE you can see constant growth in its size and capabilities. Like obviously the jump from having to swap cars halfway through the race to only needing one car, but also stuff like the podium ceremony, the structure of a weekend, fan engagement, introducing attack mode! The gen 2 cars look incredible compared to the gen 1 cars! Being able to see how much FE can pull off without aggressively hurting the environment is lowkey inspiring. 

2. The chaos!

I think this is a pretty big one for everyone coming into FE from F1 - especially with merc dominance in F1 making it at least SOMEWHAT predictable - but I never have any idea who’s going to win a Formula E race. Pretty much half the grid are Up There at any point, and because the technology is so new the innovation race is extremely tight. Anything can happen, and fan boost / attack mode / the qualifying system only make that more true! I’ve only been watching old races so apologies for the outdated example, but I was watching race 2 of season 2 the other day and like... the third place driver (Robin, my beloved) was basically drifting the car permanently bc the suspension was broken and he had to turn right just to go straight. 

That’s another thing, you see a LOT more of the flag warning a driver they have to pit for repairs or they’ll be disqualified in FE. Formula 1 cars break if you sneeze on them, FE cars will hit a wall and keep going. 

3. The vibe!

The found family vibe of the grid is so wholesome tbh they’re all quite open and supportive with each other and it’s!!! So nice!!! And then you have drivers like jev who were treated like rubbish in other series that come to FE and really come into their own in a supportive environment. I’ve been watching season 2 and the drivers just chat together and vibe before the podium and give each other hugs before the race and it’s so good??? If you enjoyed Pierre Redemption Arc at Monza then here’s a whole grid of Pierre At Monza for you to love. This is less common now plenty of drivers are just coming into FE like “right what’s all this then” bc it’s established itself as a tight contest in its own right! Which only means the chaos is gonna get even more intense!

Also tho sfdhfsdjhfsd when they Kick Off they Kick Off and it’s so funny they are all so dramatic. If Jev could lean out of the car and slap another driver mid-race he would.

ALSO I mean just, the aesthetic of the cars themselves? FE liveries are diverse and the cars look futuristic as hell. The light up halos and glow in the dark helmets this weekend especially are making me weak.

4. The Locations

FE races almost exclusively on street circuits which means they 1) avoid the environmental costs that come with a purpose built circuit and 2) have some of the most beautiful venues to race in. The scenery in FE is so good at every track!

5. The commentary team!

I literally can’t do this without saying how much I love jack, dario, and nicki they are SUCH a good team. Jack is impartial without being boring and always has a positive stat or fact about any driver and just- jack creates such an insightful, welcoming environment. Also he gets more hyper than a hamster that’s been drinking red bull laced coffee and it’s endearing as fuck.

Dario is an AMAZING co-commentator bc he’s -looks directly at brundle as I say this- a genuinely successful driver who brings that insight in only when it’s relevant or he’s asked about it. He’s also great mainly because he’s hysterical and he balances out Jack’s energy so well. He’s calmer and completely unafraid to say when someone has been a clown. You can sum up dario and jack’s energy best by something that happened in a race I was watching the other day. One of the drivers had a little (literally it was like a tap) contact with another driver. Jack went “oh my goodness!” alarmed as Dario started laughing evilly at them for being clowns. 

NICKI is AMAZING she’s such a good interviewer she’s so?? Clever with her questions tbh? I was watching Berlin season 2 the other day and god not only does she always ask the right questions and get a good answer but she’s very good about knowing how much she should/shouldn’t say about what the broadcast has picked up. She’s sneaky she’ll get you in a lie. Also Dario and Nicki’s pit lane looks always slap.

6. The Accessibility 

This may vary depending on what country you’re in but for me all old FE races are available to watch on youtube which I think is just AMAZING and what all motorsport should do.
