Sorry ive been so inactive recently, I have a life that I needed to get back to for a bit! I am returning with a new hyperfixation (i am seven years late)

I drew me and my friend’s favorite characters in a silly artstyle!! We are going through the game together and we are almost done with Chapter Four (i am so scared) (ignore how tiny Rantaro’s head is) (i rant in the tags beware)

I don’t remember any mentions of scars on her, but I wanted to experiment with scars.

I also made a dragon Alcor, breaking out of binding chains. (the muzzle and hung is supposed to look like it’s snapping, but it was just a doodle and I didn’t spend much time on the chain designs.)

I’ve been tagged by several people recently to find select sets of words in my WIPs, and this time I’m not combining them since those posts tend to get a little too long. For this post, I’ll find some words that @aohendo chose for me. Thank you for the tag, for your patience waiting for me to respond, and for the chance to keep playing my favorite game!

As always, I’ll put the excerpts themselves below the cut for readability. 

I found reflect(ed) in my Danny Phantom fanfic “Lingering Scars”:

"It's not just Vlad, either! Every time we fight together, someone else finishes the fight! Strong core? Stability? None of that even comes up! I only have fewer injuries than you because I've already been pulled out of the fight by the time things get serious! I'm always being protected, so of course I'm not getting hurt! Ever! You always keep me safe in dangerous situations!" Dani's eyes flash green, her palms glowing with an energy she immediately snuffs out as soon as she catches it in her peripheral vision. The growl he's been feeling in his own chest and throat echoes under her voice now, like the anxious rumblings of some kind of juvenile big cat -- something large and angry, but not yet grown into its size or its rage.

"Okay! Alright! You're mad! But you're in a house of ghost hunters who would shoot on sight if they caught you in my room, so keep it down!" Danny whisper-shouts back at her, that same growl reflected back at his little sister to drive his point home. It doesn't work. 

I found reach in several of my WIPs, including my short story “Kiyo”:

My sleep comes with dreams. I'm not the type to dream often, but I usually know when it's happening. I get the feeling that something is off. Shifted. Tilted diagonally, just a little. I can feel that now, in an apartment without Kiyo. I go over to her usual spot, wondering what kind of subconscious-fueled nonsense I'll see in her place. A black hole that eats everything that gets close, maybe. A well, full of water I won't be giving to my roommate at dinner time anymore. I drag my feet all the way there, somehow knowing that the dream won't let me do anything else until I've seen whatever it is for myself. When I finally get there, I don't see a black hole or a symbolic well or even an empty plant pot. I see a note, too small to have possibly been printed through a regular printer but too neat and uniform to possibly be handwritten. I don't need the dream to prompt me here. I just reach for the note on my own.

I found variations of raise (raised, raises, etc.) in almost all of my WIPs, including my novel “Apricots”:

"Alright. Okay. I'll say the thing. I... give me a second, it feels weird to say something like that so suddenly," he laughs under his breath, the sound a mask to hide his doubts about this whole situation, then straightens his spine and mimics the expression that Noah had made when he'd said the line initially, "'I walk in the direction of truth.'"

"Thank you," his friend sounds so relieved, it takes Ian a second to notice that there's something on his wrist that wasn't there before. Noah's own hands are raised on either side of his head, almost like he's apologizing. He takes a step back from Ian, who takes a step toward him to close the distance and instantly regrets acting on reflex. His leg jerks when it doesn't connect with the ground, his whole body lurching forward as his stomach tries to drop out of his abdomen. The sensation makes him dizzy, everything spinning so violently that he has to shut his eyes. All he knows is the sensation of falling, without ever landing.

I found rely in my novel WIP “To Be Honest”:

In fact, he'd prefer to avoid today's meeting altogether if he could. Keep studying on his own. Repeating the steps exactly as he reads them in his textbooks. Figuring things out without any outside input. Getting it wrong. Getting stuck. Having to retrace his steps and start the same spell over again. And again. And again. If he keeps going at this pace, he won't even pass the basic refresher course on bloodline spellcasting until he's cleared every other class Dawnriver has to offer. He'll never graduate. Never become Centerpoint. Never be in a position to actually negotiate on equal footing and get his answers. He can't afford to rely on himself alone this time. As much as he hates doing it, and as bad of an idea as it is to go when he hasn't had time to prepare, Micah needs a tutor. He needs help.

I didn’t find rampant, so here’s a fun fact related to the previous excerpt:

I’ve mentioned it before, but Micah is a Bloodline Witch. This means his magic is inherited as a natural-born ability. Having this type of magic also means he can be called a Circle Witch. The title of Circle Witch refers to the circles of influence in which these magical bloodlines operate. Every family that mutates the ability to use magic will also have branch families, allied neighbors, and magic users they're on friendly terms with or have authority over in some capacity. It's similar to an ecosystem, where every animal living in a tree has its own role to play and offers something to the tree but would be vulnerable without the tree's protection. The Renner family is the tree for branch families like the Ritters, and allies like the Path family of werewolves. Within every core bloodline like the Renners, every sheltering tree, there’s one individual who holds the most power and influence over everyone else in the bloodline and its extended Circle. This individual is called the Centerpoint, the core of the core of a family’s Circle. In the canon of "To Be Honest," the Centerpoint of the Renner family is going to step down in a few years. Anticipating this, Micah and his two cousins are all in training to take a test that might just earn them that coveted position within their family and its larger Circle. By the end of the story, one of them will become the new Renner Centerpoint. 

I’m not entirely sure that fun fact made sense when shared on its own, but it’s something I’ve been meaning to clarify since the on-page revelation of Centerpoints and Circles in TBH unfolds somewhat slowly. Thank you again for the tag, it was fun to find these words!

Nesting

Aoi can smell it in the air; the sweet scent of green tea and honey. There are a couple of flowers mixed in it as well, but she has never been really good at knowing all the types of flowers so she can't describe it exactly.

However, she knows it's the scent of their sweetest omega, Kamado Tanjirou. Which is usually a problem for the slayers around, but especially for the Pillars.

She knows the boy has taken enough suppressants to deal with his heat, but he probably still feels the need to make a nest.

What is incredibly surprising and slightly alarming is that the suppressants are not doing a really good job at hiding his scent.

"I'll be staying here a couple of days, if you don't mind," he tells Aoi, even though he doesn't need to ask for permission; she knows Tanjirou is tired and probably is fighting the need to ask the alphas around for a piece of clothing with their scent.

Now, another problem is that all the hashira are having a meeting in the headquarters soon, which means they'll be close enough to smell him.

Aoi is not surprised when she sees Kyojuro's crow flying above the butterfly estate and leaving as soon as he spots Tanjirou.

The slayers around watch with longing as Tanjirou starts gathering a couple of clean sheets and some pillows for his nest.

He moves around the estate, unable to feel satisfied with his work. Nezuko is not there at the moment so he doesn't even have a "pup" to cuddle with.

Aoi starts preparing suppressants for the alphas, not the ones around (they know they can't touch the pretty omega with the scar on his forehead if they value their lives) but for the Pillars themselves.

They'll be coming soon. She is almost sure they'll end up canceling the meeting too, because, like everyone else, Ubuyashiki knows exactly that all his hashira are head over heels for Tanjirou and he's kind enough to let them spend time with him.

"Aoi..."

"Yes?" She feels sorry for Tanjirou as she realizes he's too far gone now; he's tearing up, but his eyes are completely white, which means his inner omega is in charge now.

"Where's my pup?" He sobs, trying to wipe the tears off his eyes with his sleeve. He looks so cute, Aoi feels the need to give him anything he wants and protect him even though she's not an alpha. "I can't find her!"

He thinks Nezuko is his pup.

"She's safe at the moment, Tanjirou, I promise. You'll see her tomorrow."

The omega nods, but the tears keep sliding from his big eyes. Now she kinda understands the Pillars and why they always look like they're being tortured whenever they are with Tanjirou.

"My nest is wrong," the omega continues, clearly overwhelmed by his own hormones. "I'm not safe. It doesn't smell right. I want someone to hold me."

Maybe she should send a crow so the Pillars come faster, or at least one of them will be enough.

"Why don't you try to sleep for a while, Tanjirou?"

The omega bites his bottom lip in a way that makes her worry he'll make himself bleed; the Pillars are not going to be happy about it.

"I don't think I will be able to sleep alone. Where are my alphas?"

Now that is really interesting. Tanjirou has no idea all the hashira are in love with him; he thinks all of them consider him a friend and the things they do for him are out of friendship and nothing else.

However, his inner omega seems to know more than Tanjirou himself.

"How many alphas do you have?"

"Nine. They love me. They keep me safe," Tanjirou smiles, although his eyes are still completely white. "Why aren't they here with me? I don't even have their clothes! I miss their scents!"

Aoi regrets asking that question immediately because Tanjirou starts sobbing again.

Her salvation comes in the form of Kiyo, Naho and Sumi because as soon as Tanjirou sees them, he stops crying and hugs them.

"Are you alright, little pups? Do you need anything?"

It's incredible how his mommy instincts kick in as soon as he sees pups, even though he doesn't have any himself.

"Naho, please give Tanjirou this and take him to his nest. He'll sleep for a while," she whispers to the girl while the omega gets distracted by the other two.

"Let's go to the nest!" Sumi says, taking Tanjirou's hand in hers.

"But it's all wrong!" The omega argues, making a devastated expression.

"It's okay for now!" The three girls assure him and manage to convince him to go back to his room.

Aoi sighs in relief, at least he'll be able to rest for a while.

The Pillars arrive at the estate a little bit after that and Aoi, along with the three butterfly girls, have to stay at the entrance and physically stop them.

"What are you doing?" Iguro asks, slightly irritated by the way his scent is changing. "We want to see our omega!"

"You can't," she stands her ground despite being afraid of them. "Not until you drink these and wait for the medicine to kick in."

"Huh?" Shinazugawa bares his teeth, inner alpha already desperate to get to Tanjirou. "What the hell is this?"

"Tanjirou's scent is too strong at the moment; he won't go into heat, but you still have to take suppressants so his scent doesn't trigger your ruts. To keep him safe."

From you. She doesn't say, but they all hear it between lines nonetheless.

However, Tanjirou's safety has always been a priority for the hashira, so they all nod and drink the medicine quickly.

"Wait a couple of minutes in the backyard. I'll call you when it's time." She says, feeling a lot relaxed now.

"Is he alright?" Tomioka asks, worried.

"Yes, but he wants cuddles."

She rolls her eyes as soon as she hears them fight over who gets to cuddle him first.

"Also, you should give him your haoris or something so he can finish his nest. He's very upset about not getting it ready."

Since Tokito and Uzui don't have a haori, they end up shirtless, but that doesn't surprise her at all.

Aoi leaves for a while, mostly to check on Tanjirou; he's still asleep, although she knows he'll wake up as soon as the Pillars walk in the room.

"Alright, it's time!"

They basically jump up, ready to follow her like lovesick puppies; she rolls her eyes again, glad her back is on them.

"One more thing: he thinks you're his alphas."

"Well, that's because we are!" Uzui smirks, although his expression changes when Kocho throws her butterfly clip at him and hits him on the back of the head.

"We are not... yet," she says. "We promised we were going to court him properly. Besides, his inner omega might have caught on to our feelings for him, but Tanjirou has no idea."

Despite knowing that, Aoi notices they all seem really happy about the omega's assumption and she knows they're going to play the alpha mates role quite well.

"Be careful. Only cuddling!" She warns them, although she knows she's being unfair because they would never hurt their sunshine.

They all melt at the sight of Tanjirou curled up in a pile of sheets and pillows. Honestly, his nest looks quite comfortable, but it only smells like him at the moment.

"Darling?" Kanroji mumbles quietly, getting closer.

It's all the omega needs to open his big eyes; they're still white, but Aoi knows it'll probably last a day or two.

"Alphas!" Tanjirou beams, making grabby hands at them.

"Someone pinch me, I think I'm dreaming," Tomioka blurts out, only for Kocho to do exactly what he asked. "Ouch! I didn't mean it literally!"

Kyojuro, always desperate to touch Tanjirou, pulls the omega into his arm in a hug that makes them both purr.

"I want your haoris."

They immediately offer a piece of clothing to him, like the good, whipped alphas they are.

He hugs all the garments with the sweetest, most content expression on his face before rubbing every single one against his cheeks.

Then he patiently arranges them as all the hashira watch with undivided attention.

"It's done!" The omega beams, clearly satisfied with his work before turning towards them again. "I want someone to cuddle me!"

Himejima is the first one. They both fit perfectly in the nest; Tanjirou did such a good job, Aoi is sure each and every single one are going to be really comfortable when their turn comes.

She leaves then, but she keeps checking in on them every once in a while, and that's how she finds out Iguro and Kanroji decide to cuddle Tanjirou at the same time. During Tokito's turn, he lies over Tanjirou's chest the whole time. Shinazugawa likes to bite the omega's cheek to make him giggle, Kyojuro embraces him in a way that makes it look like he won't ever leave his side and Tomioka hugs him from behind, breathing into Tanjirou's red hair.

Kocho does the same as Tokito because she's smaller than Tanjirou, Uzui encourages the omega to hide his face under the curve of his neck until he purrs.

It takes them a while, but Tanjirou gets to cuddle with all his Pillars, one at a time.

Tanjirou wakes up feeling well rested. The nest he made smells better than ever, and even though he's in a pile of comfortable clothes alone, around him on the floor, all the hashira are sleeping.

Then, bit by bit, he remembers what happened while his inner omega was in control.

And he feels terrible about it. Tears start falling from his eyes because he's still on his nesting period, and his hormones are crazy even though he's completely conscious now.

"Tanjirou, what is it?" Muichiro is the first one to wake up. Cradling the omega's face in his hands, he leans closer. "Are you hurt?"

They all are awake now, gathered around him, with such concerned looks in their eyes, Tanjirou feels even worse.

"I took advantage of you!" He sobs. "Of your friendship and valuable time! I'm so sorry I made you give up your haoris, I'm sorry you had to act like my alphas to make me feel better!"

"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?"

Sanemi is angry, of course he is. He should be.

"You can... I mean I understand if you want to stop being my frie–"

"Tanjirou, my boy, my beloved, my darling," Kyojuro cuts him off, moving closer until the tip of his nose touches the omega's. "We are in love with you."

"What?" He blinks, as his tears finally stop sliding down his cheeks.

Gyomei kneels in front of him, finds his hands, and takes them in his.

"Tanjirou. You didn't make us do anything," he says, smiling softly at him as he tears up. "In your hands, you hold our hearts, all of them, and it's not because you took them; we gave them to you willingly, after getting to know your gentle soul and seeing the kindness you treat everyone with. Tanjirou, we have been yours for a while now, and we've been trying to let you know about our love for you. Please, let us court you."

Tanjirou takes a deep breath before touching Gyomei's hands with his fingertips gently and then looking at every single one of... his Pillars.

They are his Pillars now, aren't they? Tanjirou can finally see it all in the glimmer of their eyes.

It has always been there, he just... wasn't paying enough attention.

But he will from now on.

"Yes, you can court me. All of you."

He gets a lot of kisses and hugs after that, at least until Aoi comes in and reminds them Tanjirou is technically still nesting so they should be careful with the displays of affection.

Tanjirou makes a mental note to give something to Aoi for taking care of him.

She deserves it.

mezzo forte — ebb and flow

she feels sick to her stomach when she opens her door. the mid afternoon sun beats down on his back — it’s clear in the sweat collecting on his face and the dark splotch around the collar of his t-shirt. she can’t decide if she wants to see him.

“haji, why are you here?”

the call of his name — not his nickname, never his nickname, not when it fell from her lips — renders him immobile. whatever confidence he mustered up on the trip to her place dissipates, and the lines he’d carefully conjured up while taking the steps up to the door slip away. “i wanted to see you,” he whispers, seemingly unsure in his answer.

she’s scared to respond. her irritation is still riddled within every crack and crevice. she doesn’t want to say the wrong thing.

“why?”

he pauses. it’s silly, watching someone as sure and stable as athletic trainer hajime iwaizumi crumble to dust at the receiving end of such a simple question. the thought makes him want to curl in on himself, until he’s no longer recognizable. instinctively, his hand drops to the hem of his shirt, the calluses on his fingertips catching onto the loose threads while he fiddles. she notices (she always does), but whatever acknowledgement she wants to wrangle out of her throat fails to escape, leaving them both in silence.

“i want it to be me,” he finally whispers. he looks at her earnestly, with the same determination he bore when he first asked her to play with him the week he moved in, and the same pride he carried when he ran to her first after every victorious game; all of it is reminiscent of the boy she grew up with, and not the man who stands before her with clammy palms and an unsteady head.

“what do you mean?” she asks, though she knows the answer already.

“i want the songs to be about me. all of it.”

“but you said they couldn’t be.”

he shakes his head instantly. he can’t hold it back anymore, the sweet and ripe and tender feeling that’s been growing in his chest since youth. “i didn’t mean that. i was just- i didn’t believe it. i didn’t want to. but now,” he breathes for a second. “i don’t want them to be about anyone else.”

whatever anger she’d been holding onto dissolves entirely, replacing itself with desperate, piercing yearning. the thoughts of her manager fall apart, and the thoughts of the (supposed) impending doom of her career escape her. instead, all she can think about is the way her hands fly to his collar and tug him towards her.

it’s messy, and rocky, and impulsive, but she can’t fight it. her lips meet his, and it feels natural. like she’s been waiting for it for an eternity.

Updated Danganronpa Headcanons

Made a post with these a while ago but I reorganized them and added more, so I figured I’d just repost them

Under the cut because there’s a lot

General Headcanons:

1. Maki has several bird feeders, squirrel feeders, and just other foods left outside for animals. She refills these everyday

2. Himiko has dwarfism

3. Tenko loves wearing pride stuff, like shirts and bows and bracelets and stuff

4. Angie was born on Rota (one of the Northern Mariana Islands), specifically in Songsong (the second largest village on Rota).

5. Miu bleached her hair

6. Miu loves watching cartoons

7. When Miu was a kid she was super hyperactive

8. Miu used to get so many little injuries and she never knew where they came from, she was always covered in bruises and bandaids

9. Miu used slurs because she didn’t know the meaning behind them, she assumed it was just another name for a group of people (she got corrected and is now working on it)

10. When Miu was younger she always wrote her name “Mew” because she liked Pokémon and loved the fact she sorta shared a name with one

11. When Kiyo thinks that someone “would be a good friend for sister”, he really means that he likes them and he thinks they would get along if he didn’t feel like he was cheating on his sister

12. Kiyo’s sister was more traditional, Kiyo almost always had traditional Japanese meals that she home made and was taught to dress conservatively, which was only enabled by his cooler body temperature bc illness

13. Kiyo really likes spaghetti but he is also a big fan of dry cheerios

14. Angie wishes her name was Angelica

15. Ryoma has the “Hang In There” poster

16. Kiyo wears anything as long as he’s covered, gender roles don’t phase him, only gendered terms (tis an unfortunate existence)

17. Kokichi knows morse code

18. Kaito and Shuichi have a “secret” handshake (it’s pretty simple and Kaito wants to use it everywhere), Maki refuses to join in on it

19. Hiro got the scar on his back from playing with raccoons when he was younger, he got along with most of them but sometimes they would attack him and he would cry because his friends hurt him

20. Hiro is Blasian, mom is from Japan and dad is African American

21. Tenko and Kiyo drive each other to therapy

22. Kiyo, Mikan, Toko, Mukuro, and Nagito all went to an inpatient together and had group therapy, they’re like a weird little family now

23. In this therapy family, Kiyo and Mukuro act most like siblings towards each other, Nagito is a very protective big brother, Mikan constantly fawns over the rest of them, and Toko likes to pretend they don’t exist because “they embarrass her”

24. Kyoko has a “Quote of the Day” book

25. Miu’s gaydar is absolute dogshit, she thought Rantaro was a straight man for a while

26. Maki loves accessories, but she is very embarrassed about it so she tries not to draw to much attention to it

27. She likes hair pins, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, rings, broaches, fancy hairties, scrunchies, fancy shoelaces, anklets, all that stuff

28. Most of her stuff is simple and silver, but she’s definitely gotten presents from the more observant people like Kaede, Kirumi, Rantaro, Ryoma, and even a ring from Kokichi (it’s a thin black and white striped band, but it was a peace offering from him so she wears it quite a bit)

29. Miu is scared of needles

30. Kiyo and Angie are best friends, it used to be just because Kiyo was fascinated by Angie but they ended up getting along very well

31. Chihiro knows tons of memes and is very into meme culture

32. Mondo used to go to plays and musicals with Daiya (they snuck in) and he is a very good actor because of post performance meetings

33. Mahiru loves taking photos of her friends

34. Izuru loves blankets and soft things

35. Kaito is scared of the dark and he has a bunch of glow in the dark stars and moons on his ceiling, he also has a bunch of stuffies (a lot of which have astronauts suits or other space things)

36. Ibuki has several younger siblings

37. Kokichi is an orphan and was at the same orphanage as Maki, they just never interacted much

38. Kokichi and Miu are friends, they just don’t seem like it to most people

39. No one from V3 kills bugs, they get Gonta to gently remove them from the premise (and sometimes he keeps them in his room)

40. Hiro has the self-assigned role of dad in their his friend group, he does cringey things like leaves messages in their lunch and talks as if he was like 20 years older than he is

41. Mikan’s stutter is from nervousness, but Toko’s is a real stutter

42. Fuyu is lactose intolerant which is why he hates milk, Peko never has anything with lactose in it because Fuyu can’t

43. This is actually why Peko got sick in chapter 1, she didn’t realize the food she ate had cheese in it and she was so not used to it so it made her stomach upset

44. Gundham isn’t vegan, but he is a vegetarian who pays very close attention to where he gets his food from. This is because he knows that many animals that have become live stock can suffer more if not used the way humans have bred them to. Also he knows that humans are omnivores and the circle of life just works like that.

46. Hifumi was bullied in school because of his looks which is why he got so into fandoms and fiction

The only interesting thing about them were his nails- a smidge too long and coated with chipped nail polish. “I need to redo them.”

“Let me!” You blurted before he could speak again. “I mean…if you’d let me.”

Korekiyo blinked at you, taking in your request. Then, slowly, he pushed the small bottle of nail polish to you, holding out his hands. “Interesting…very well.”

“Great! Hm…maybe we should reshape them too…” You hummed as you took one, noting the frailed edges. “They look…bitten?” To your surprise, Korekiyo flushed beneath his mask. “Kiyo?”

“I have…a bad habit of biting them.” He confessed, shrinking some in his seat. “Hence why I tape them.”

“Hm.” You nodded, digging into the pouch he brought until you found a nail filer. “That’s okay. We all have our ticks.” The next few minutes you spent cleaning and painting his nails, shaping them so they were all matching in style. The discomfort in Korekiyo’s frame began to fade as he watched you work, and it wasn’t long before he was blinking at his new nails, pleased. “There! Like them?”

“I do. They look lovely. Thank you, (Y/N).” His eyes were warm when he looked at you, and while you couldn’t see it, you could tell he was smiling. Feeling proud, you raised your chin.

“Your welcome-”

“Mind if I take them on a test run?”

“A test what?” You blinked, and suddenly he was no longer in his seat before you. “Where are-Ehehehehehhehe!”

“Yes, these prove to be quite nice.” Korekiyo hummed as his hands found your collarbone, gently tapping along your neck as you squirmed and giggled in your seat. “Thank you, (Y/N)- I just might keep them unwrapped today.”

My little hc is that his sister was unwilling to properly take care of herself and much of arturo's life was stuck having to take care of her. Judging by his obsession of wealth, he may have not grown up in the most finacially stable environment and his sister soon became a financial burden for him. She often was very disheveled and guilted arturo to take care of her. When he finally chose to leave, she threatened to harm herself and she and arturo had a physical altercation where arturo had to wrestle the weapon out of her hands. During the fight, his sister scratched his face, and since she never cleaned or trimmed her nails, they infected and permanently scarred his face. While arutro did succeed in stopping his sister, that would be the last interaction they would have. Now, arturo keeps his face covered out of shame and to never have to bring up his past. As for his hands, he has to keep gloves on in order to stop himself from biting them, as he constantly needs to trim them in order to not be reminded of his sister

Tanjiro had felt a range of emotions when Kiyo, Sumi, and Naho told him that there was another person recovering in the butterfly mansion besides himself, Zenitsu, and Inosuke. He felt bad for being excited to learn the other patient was (Y/N). Her presence in the mansion meant that she was injured, but at the same time he was excited to see her after months since their last meeting. Once he felt better, he decided to pay her a visit.

She looked well. There were bandages wrapped around her knuckles to her elbows on both her arms, and bandages wrapped around her neck. But, she was sitting up on her own and she was looking out the window. She was injured, of course, but Tanjiro had been worse off many more times before. He was sure that (Y/N) would probably recover before all of them and be on her way to continue slaying demons. She did appear dazed, though.

(Y/N) was staring out the window, as though she wasn’t really in the room right now but somewhere far away. Lost in her own mind that she didn’t even seem to notice that another person had entered the room. Tanjiro gasped, slightly as an intrusive thought entered his mind. What if she was ignoring him? She had incredible instincts as a slayer, she was trained to never let anything sneak up on her. She must be upset with him for some reason or another, not that he could think of some offense he must have committed.

She looked down at her hands. “Tanjiro. Aoi told me that you were here, are your injuries serious?” She questioned, and he could hear that she had been crying in the shakiness of her voice, so unlike her usual confidence.

Tanjiro shook his head, “I am feeling much better. Are you okay, (Y/N)?”

The girl tried to nod, before she shook her head honestly. When she turned to finally face him, there were tears gathered in her (e/c) eyes.

Tanjiro’s mouth gaped open in shock and horror. Tanjiro had known (Y/N) since he had first become a demon slayer. He had known her for years, although he only saw her every couple of months, for a different amount of time each time they crossed paths. Tanjiro thought of her as a good friend. She had always been courteous and more than accepting of Nezuko. And in all that time, he had never seen (Y/N) even upset, let alone crying. He moved his aching legs to enter the room properly and fell to his knees at her bedside and grabbed her hands that had been resting on her lap.

(Y/N) breathed heavily, as she tried to keep herself from crying anymore, as though if she could control her breathing it would stop her emotions. Tanjiro held her hands palm to palm, resting his thumbs over her knuckles. Their hands were so very calloused and scarred. A thin line of tears ran down from the corner of her eyes, and she leaned down to rest her forehead atop Tanjiro’s head, as the tears continued to run down her face. Tanjiro’s hands were cold right now, but there was still the ever present warmth that surrounded him. (Y/N) moved her hands out of his, so that she could intertwine her fingers with his, and nestled her face more towards his forehead, right beside the large red scar on the left side.

They remained like that for an indeterminate amount of time. It could have been as brief as five minutes, but it felt more as though it had been hours. Tanjiro had wanted to say something, to ask questions of what had happened to make her cry, or wanting to offer comforting words. Yet, he held his tongue and just waited as (Y/N)’s tears lessened and her breathing stilled, and she pulled her head away from his own and he could look up at her.

“So-sorry,” she whimpered.

Tanjiro shook his head, keeping his red eyes focused on her intensely. “You don’t have to be sorry. You have nothing to be sorry about.”

She shook her head, “no, I do. I am weak and pathetic.”

“No, you’re not!” Tanjiro insisted, “you’re one of the strongest people I have ever met! You’re such a great swordsman and your breathing style is great.”

“You’re so sweet, Tanjiro,” she mumbled, so quietly as though she didn’t want him to hear her praise. But he had, and it caused his cheeks to turn red with a somewhat burning sensation. It was an amazing feeling to know that she thought of him so highly that he briefly forgot that she was upset. “I’m not strong enough, I’m not good enough. I wasn’t able to save anyone but myself. I shouldn’t be a demon slayer, I am not like you.”

She tried to pull her hands away from him, but he held on stubbornly and looked at her with a serious look. “What happened, (Y/N)?”

(Y/N) looked away in shame. She relaxed her hands and then tightened her fingers around his. She sighed, “I was assigned to act as backup to a mission that was going less than successful. The demon was powerful, it had been feasting on a temple of monks and any demon slayers who came into its territory. We were its prey the moment we climbed up that mountain. All the other demon slayers I went with were the same age as me or younger. Some of them I knew, others I had only met that night. It picked them off one at a time. It had gotten me too, he tried to slit my throat when I screamed, but I was saved by a friend. The demon killed him and I beheaded while it ripped him apart. I was the only one who survived. Twenty slayers, and I was the only one who survived. And only because Takami saved me and died in my place.” She tried to bury her face in her shoulder as her tears returned.

Tanjiro lifted himself off of his knees and onto his feet, but he did not release her hands, only tightening his grip. “You shouldn’t feel guilty that you survived, that you’re alive. There is no reason why you don’t deserve to live, (Y/N), you’re a good person. What happened was terrible but that isn’t your fault. It’s not fair that a demon killed all those people without remorse and you’re the one left feeling regretful. You shouldn’t have to be burdened with these thoughts, because you did nothing wrong.”

She shook her head again.

“I am very happy that you’re alive,” he announced, “I will make sure to pay my respects to Takami for saving you before I leave. He was a good demon slayer who made an impossible decision. He was a good friend.”

“He was,” she nodded. “And so are you Tanjiro.”

He felt his cheeks warm again at her praise, as it had earlier when she called him sweet. Though there was also a disheartening ache in his chest at the mention of them being friends. That was odd, they were friends, that shouldn’t make him upset. “And you’re a good friend, (Y/N). If you leave the corps, I will understand. I just think you should take more time before you make a decision as serious as leaving the corps until after you recover.”

“That makes sense,” she agreed. (Y/N) turned to him, there was still a sadness in her eyes but there was a small smile as well. “Thank you, Tanjiro. I’m not happy about why you’re here, but I am really happy that you were here. You always know how to cheer me up. Thank you so much.”

He blushed, abashedly, “you don’t have to thank me.”

“Would you mind staying for a while?” she asked.

Tanjiro looked down at their hands, which neither of them had ever bothered to let go of from their conversation, so long that he had almost forgotten that they were holding hands. Tanjiro hadn’t ever held a girl’s hand before, beside Nezuko, but that didn’t count. It was the same as holding (Y/N)’s hand. 

“Of course.”
