Ever just sit there and realize you're known in some friend-groups as having the Weirdest and Most Obscure taste in games even though it doesn't feel like it to you?
I don't rattle off most of them here because I'm... not sure why. But among friends apparently my being submerged in sites like RMN (rip), Ludum Dare, TIG, SAGE, Gamejolt, and Itch has caused me to know a lot of games a lot of them don't. Conversely, they are more familiar with most AAA titles than I am if only because I'm waist-deep in indie stuff.
Although a big reason for it with me is because tech issues mean that I can't run most AAA stuff or I pause at shelling out $60+tax +DLC for a single game when there's a lot of good stuff for anywhere between $2 to $35 at base let alone sale. It's not that AAA can't have heart or effort or that Indie can't be more Shine than Substance too, but...
Examples of games that were originally free/gamejam entries and went off to paid indie: ZZZZ-ZZZZ-ZZZZ, Kiwi 64, Teabat, Kyle & Lucy: Wonderworld (which led up to Sondro Gomez: A Sunova Story). These aren't even the weirdest ones. Just the first things that came to mind. (Zzzz is pretty weird though.)
A lot of stuff I could show off as Surreal or Strange are stuff that's either more well known, no longer available to download, or are blatantly Horror and for some reason I get randomly iffy about posting goretastic stuff.

Super Kiwi 64 has a unique quality to it and thus provides a certain service to society. For years I have been itching to play Banjo Kazooie once more to confirm that it is still a good game. I’ve had my suspicions that it might not hold up. I fear that there may be too much to collect and that the movement abilities may not hold up to the standards of today. I feel this way about a lot of games, but mainly 3D platformers of that era. Will I be satisfied with the standard jump and hover of Rayman 2 if I go back to it? I suspect I won’t be. I haven’t played any of the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy just because I want to hold out hope that they are good and not guilty of the awkward and evil design that I’ve heard whispers of. Ignorance is bliss, so I choose to ignore the past, unless it’s games like Mario 64 or Spyro, which I know for sure hold up today.
Super Kiwi 64 enables my cowardly mindset while also satisfying my desire to delve back into the 1990’s. It is an N64 3D platformer made in 2022. It looks the part, it vibes like one, is structured like one, and the main character is pretty much a gene spliced abomination of both Banjo and Kazooie. It’s surprisingly small. Like really small. But it still feels like I played a whole game. It’s almost as if I mistakenly placed an N64 cartridge into my VCR, hit fast forward, and my mind magically read through all information of the game. I got almost an entire experience of the very thing this game emulates in under an hour. There are still multiple level motifs and gimmicks. There are still secrets to be found in each area that require curiosity. And these levels aren’t really small either, you can just move around them way faster than you’d expect to be able to. This game has perfect control. With just the correct use of your basic attack, you can zip around the map and collect to your hearts content. There aren’t many enemies to stop you, but it’s not like combat is ever the thing people play these games for. There’s an essential joy attached to dashing, climbing, and gliding across the zone. I would say it only lacks in having a final boss to cap off your journey. Other than that, it’s the perfect compression of the experience I crave and will return to this whenever I’m in the mood play a Rare Platformer in the future.

My favorite aesthetic is haunted. Not horror, but just the overwhelming sense that you're beholding something you shouldn't be. Like walking through a mall, fully lit, stores stocked and open, muzak playing, but the place is devoid of people except for you.
Recently I found and played a number of games by a creator named Siactro. Super Kiwi 64, Macbat 64, Toree 3D, Toree 2, and Beeny. They're all lovingly well-crafted, and absolutely haunted.
Each one feels like an old school Rareware game, mostly N64 era, and they're absolutely the sort of thing that a creepypasta Let's Player would vanish while playing.
I won't spoil anything, save to say they're very well made, amazingly cheap (on Switch I was able to get the entire collection for around 10 dollars) and some of the most unnerving experiences I've had in a while.

I have faint but fond memories of the SAGE entries for Eversleep Lunistice and while I found Spark 1 a little iffy with the characters/humor it was rock solid as a game and since I wanted a new Sonic-ish game... rather than spending $30 on Frontiers which might not even run on my computer, I get a love letter to the Sonic games.
As for Super Kiwi 64... it's actually a direct sequel to Kiwi 64, a Banjo-Kazooie inspired game and in general a love letter to N64 Platformers. The dev also made Toree, Macbat 64, and a lot of freeware games that the titles blossomed out from. Aside from Macbat's original build (basically just the first world), I remember enjoying Boomadrons Bouncyverse Rebound.
According to How Long To Beat, Danganronpa v3 will take me about 50-100 hours, Spark the Electric Jester 3 about 6-10 hours, Lunistice 3 hours but 10 with the other modes, and Super Kiwi 64 about an hour. But no matter what I'll have fun.

Grabbed Super Kiwi 64 for Switch, and I'm impressed yet again at how Siactro not only captures the retro vibe they're going for, this time it's N64, but how fun their platformers are to just run around in.
My only real criticism is that I think they're undervaluing themselves! The games are good, even at double the price they'd be too cheap!
