Why Addressing Grease Buildup is Critical for Fire Safety in Commercial Kitchens
Commercial kitchens are constantly exposed to high heat, open flames, and grease, making them particularly vulnerable to fire hazards. One of the most significant risks in these environments is the buildup of grease in exhaust hoods and ventilation systems. If not managed properly, this hidden danger can lead to devastating fires. In this article, we’ll explore why addressing grease buildup is essential for fire safety in every restaurant and how proper maintenance can prevent serious incidents.
How Grease Buildup Occurs
Every time food is cooked, especially when frying or grilling, tiny grease particles are released into the air. These particles are captured by the kitchen's exhaust system, where they gradually accumulate in the hood, filters, and ductwork. Over time, this buildup forms a thick, flammable layer of grease, creating a significant fire risk if not regularly cleaned.
In busy commercial kitchens, grease can accumulate quickly, often out of sight, which makes the risk even more dangerous. While exhaust hoods are designed to remove smoke and heat, they also trap grease, and without proper maintenance, this can become a recipe for disaster.
The Fire Hazards of Grease Buildup
Grease is highly flammable, and when it accumulates inside a kitchen's ventilation system, even a small flame or spark can ignite it. Once a grease fire starts, it can spread rapidly through the ductwork, reaching other areas of the building. These types of fires are notoriously difficult to extinguish and can cause extensive damage in a very short amount of time.
In addition to the physical dangers, grease fires put employees and customers at risk, leading to potential injuries, financial losses, and possible closure of the business. Fire prevention is crucial in ensuring that your restaurant remains a safe environment, and the first step in prevention is addressing grease buildup.
Preventing Grease Buildup with Regular Cleaning
The most effective way to prevent grease-related fires in commercial kitchens is through regular cleaning of the exhaust hood and ventilation system. Establishing a consistent cleaning schedule ensures that grease doesn’t accumulate to dangerous levels. For high-volume kitchens, exhaust systems may need cleaning every month, while other kitchens can maintain safety with quarterly cleanings.
By investing in regular cleaning, you are not only reducing fire hazards but also improving the efficiency of the ventilation system. A clean exhaust hood helps maintain better airflow, reducing heat and odors in the kitchen while also lowering energy costs.
The Role of Professional Cleaning Services
While in-house staff can handle surface cleaning, professional cleaning services are essential for thoroughly addressing grease buildup in hard-to-reach areas like ductwork and fans. Professional cleaners use specialized equipment to remove grease deposits from every part of the exhaust system, ensuring it’s safe and compliant with fire safety standards.
Hiring professionals also provides peace of mind. They can inspect your system for potential issues, keep detailed cleaning records, and ensure that your restaurant meets local safety codes and regulations, reducing your liability in the event of an incident.
Fire Code Compliance and Liability
Many local fire codes require commercial kitchens to maintain their exhaust systems regularly, and failure to do so can result in penalties, fines, or worse—shut down of the business. Additionally, insurance policies often mandate proof of regular cleaning in order to cover potential fire damage. By complying with these regulations, you protect your business from both legal and financial consequences.
Proper exhaust system maintenance also demonstrates a commitment to safety, which is vital for building trust with both customers and employees.
Conclusion
Grease buildup is a hidden but severe fire hazard in commercial kitchens, and addressing it is essential for maintaining a safe and compliant environment. By investing in regular exhaust hood cleaning and working with professional services, restaurants can significantly reduce the risk of fire, protect their property, and ensure the safety of everyone involved. Don’t overlook the importance of proper maintenance—keeping your kitchen clean means keeping it safe.

How Regular Kitchen Exhaust Hood Maintenance Minimizes Fire Hazards
Maintaining a safe commercial kitchen requires diligent attention to its ventilation systems, particularly the kitchen exhaust hood. Consistent kitchen exhaust hood maintenance is essential for reducing fire risks and ensuring a safe cooking environment. By keeping the exhaust system clean, you can effectively prevent grease buildup, a common cause of kitchen fires. Let’s explore how regular maintenance helps minimize these risks and keeps your kitchen secure.
The Importance of Kitchen Exhaust Hood Maintenance for Fire Safety
The kitchen exhaust hood is designed to extract smoke, steam, and grease-laden air from the kitchen, helping maintain good air quality. However, if it isn’t cleaned regularly, grease can build up in the hood and ductwork, becoming a significant fire hazard. Without proper kitchen exhaust hood maintenance, this buildup can ignite due to high heat or sparks, leading to dangerous fires. Regular cleaning ensures that grease doesn’t accumulate, keeping your kitchen safer and compliant with safety codes.
Benefits of Regular Kitchen Exhaust Hood Maintenance
Beyond reducing fire risks, maintaining your kitchen exhaust hood offers several other benefits that enhance both safety and efficiency:
Reduces Grease Accumulation: Consistent maintenance removes grease deposits from the hood, ducts, and filters, lowering the potential for grease fires.
Improves Ventilation: A well-maintained exhaust hood system ensures better airflow, effectively removing smoke and heat. This creates a safer, more comfortable environment for kitchen staff.
Extends Equipment Lifespan: Routine kitchen exhaust hood maintenance keeps critical components like the fan and motor in good working order, prolonging the system’s life and reducing repair costs.
Ensures Compliance with Safety Standards: Many local fire and building codes require regular exhaust hood maintenance. Staying on top of maintenance helps your kitchen pass inspections and avoid penalties.
Signs That Your Exhaust Hood Needs Maintenance
Knowing when it’s time for kitchen exhaust hood maintenance helps prevent small issues from becoming major problems. Look out for these common indicators that maintenance is overdue:
Visible Grease Drips: Grease dripping from the edges of the hood is a clear sign that it’s time for a deep clean.
Reduced Airflow: If the exhaust system no longer effectively clears smoke, it could mean that grease buildup is blocking the ducts and restricting airflow.
Lingering Odors: Persistent smells in the kitchen may indicate that the exhaust system is not properly removing fumes, signaling that a more thorough cleaning is needed.
How to Maintain Your Kitchen Exhaust Hood
Proper kitchen exhaust hood maintenance involves regular cleaning combined with professional inspections. Here’s how to keep your system in optimal shape:
1. Clean Filters Frequently
Remove and wash the filters every few weeks to prevent grease buildup. Using warm, soapy water helps keep airflow strong and ensures the system functions efficiently.
2. Schedule Professional Cleanings
Hiring professionals for deep cleanings every three to six months is essential to ensure that ducts and hidden areas are free of grease. This is particularly important for high-volume kitchens where grease can accumulate rapidly.
Prioritize Regular Maintenance for a Safer Kitchen
Regular kitchen exhaust hood maintenance is key to reducing fire hazards and maintaining a safe commercial kitchen. By keeping your exhaust system clean, you prevent grease buildup, improve air quality, and extend the lifespan of your equipment. Making maintenance a priority protects your kitchen and offers peace of mind for you, your staff, and your customers.

The Sign of Four: The Strange Story of Jonathan Small (Part One of Two)
I will split this in two parts as I've got a lot to cover here.
CW for discussions of nasty prison conditions.
The depth of the Thames is about 6.5 metres at low tide in Woolwich, near to the Plumstead Marshes as they were then. However, the river has strong currents and very little visibility, so it would be a risky operation even with 2024 diving technology for some rather small objects.
The rupee originally was a silver coin dating back to ancient times in India, becoming something of a standard currency during the Mughal period. The East India Company introduced paper rupees and while there was an attempt by the British to move their territory to the pound sterling, they soon gave up, minting their own rupees with the British monarch's head on. The currency was also non-decimal. India retained the currency post-independence and went decimal as well.
Mangrove trees are very common in equatorial coastline regions - they can remove salt from the water, which would kill many other trees.
Prisoners set to the Andaman Islands penal colony were forced to work nine to ten hours a day to construct the new settlement, while in chains. Cuts from poisonous plants and friction ulcers from the chains would often get infected, resulting in death.
The convict huts on Ross Island were two-storey affairs, with the bottom as a kitchen and took area, the prisoners sleeping on the upper floor. Designed this way as an anti-malaria measure, they however leaked and the prisoners themselves were constantly damp from the rainfall, offering them little protection from the mosquitoes in any event.
Ague is an obsolete term for malaria; adults experience chills and fever in cycles.
The British would conduct experiments with quinine as a malaria treatment by force-feeding it to the prisoners. This caused severe side effects.
The British would make use of locals as warders, who wore sashes and carried canes. I'd imagine they could probably be quite brutal.
Pershoe is a small town on the River Avon near Worcester. It has a railway station with an hourly service to London, taking just under two hours today.
"Chapel-going" in this context means that the people attended a non-conformist church i.e. not one part of the Church of England.
"Taking the Queen's/King's shilling" was a historical term for joining the armed forces - for the army this was officially voluntary, but sailors could be forcibly recruited, being known as "press-ganged" until 1815. You would be given the shilling upon initial enlistment or tricked into taking it via it being slipped into your opaque beer. You would return the shilling on your formal attestation and then receive a bounty which could be pretty substantial in terms of the average wage, although a good amount of that would then be spent on your uniform. Some enlisted, deserted and then reenlisted multiple times to get multiple payments. The practice officially stopped in 1879, but the slang term remains.
The 3rd Buffs refers to the latter 3rd Battalion, Buffs (East Kent Regiment), a militia battalion that existed from 1760 to 1953, although it effectively was finished in 1919. However, in reality, they did not go to India to deal with the rebellion, instead staying in Great Britain to cover for the regular regiments who did.
The British never formally adopted the Prussian "goose step" instead going for the similar, but less high-kicking, slow march.
The musket would possibly have been the muzzle-loaded Enfield P53, a mass-produced weapon developed at the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield. It was itself was the trigger of the Indian Rebellion in 1857 due to the grease used in the cartridges. They would also be heavily used in the American Civil War on both sides, especially the Confederate one as they smuggled a lot of them, with only the Springfield Model 1861 being more widely used. As a result, they are highly sought after by re-enactors. The British used them until 1867, when they switched to the breech-loading Snider-Enfield, many of the P53s being converted.
The crocodile would likely have been a gharial, which mainly eat fish. Hunting and loss of habitat has reduced their numbers massively, with the species considered "Critically Endangered" by the IUCN.
"Coolie" is a term today considered offensive that was used to describe low-wage Indian or Chinese labourers who were sent around the world, basically to replace emancipated slaves. Indentured labourers, basically - something the US banned (except as a riminal punishment) along with slavery in 1865. In theory they were volunteers on a contract with rights and wages, however abuses were rife. Indentured labour would finally be banned in British colonies in 1917.
Indigo is a natural dark blue dye extracted from plants of the Indigofera genus; India produced a lot of it. Today, the dye (which makes blue jeans blue) is mostly produced synthetically.
I have covered the "Indian Mutiny" as the British called it here in my post on "The Crooked Man".
The Agra Fort dates back to 1530 and at 94 acres, it was pretty huge by any standards. Today, much of it is open to tourists (foreigners pay 650 rupees, Indians 50), although there are parts that remain in use by the Indian Army and are not for public access.
"Rajah" meaning king, referred to the many local Hindu monarchs in the Indian subcontinent; there were also Maharajahs or "great kings", who the British promoted loyal rajahs to the rank of. The Muslim equivalent was Nawab. However, a variety of other terms existed. The East India Company and the Raj that succeeded them used these local rulers to rule about a half their territory and a third of the population indirectly, albeit under quite a bit of influence from colonial officials. These rulers were vassals to the British monarch; they would collect taxes and enforce justice locally, although many of the states were pretty small (a handful of towns in some cases) and so they contracted this out to the British. As long as they remained loyal, they could get away with nearly anything.
562 of these rulers were present at the time of Indian independence in 1947. Effectively abandoned by the British (Louis Mountbatten, the last Viceroy, sending out contradictory messages), nearly all of them were persuaded to accede to the new India, where the nationalists were not keen on them, with promises they could keep their autonomy if they joined, but if not, India would not help them with any rebellions. Hyderabad, the wealthiest of the states, resisted and was annexed by force. The ruler of Jammu and Kashmir joined India in exchange for support against invading Pakistani forces, resulting in a war. A ceasefire agreement was reached at the beginning of 1949, with India controlling about two-thirds of the territory; the ceasefire line, with minor adjustments after two further wars in 1965 and 1971, would become known as the Line of Control, a dotted line on the map that is the de facto border and one of the tensest disputed frontiers on the planet.
India and Pakistan initially allowed the princely rulers to retain their autonomy, but this ended in 1956. In 1971 and 1972 respectively, their remaining powers and government funding were abolished.
Many of the former rulers ended up in a much humbler position, others retained strong local influence and a lot of wealth. The Nizam of Hyderbad, Mir Osman Ali Khan was allowed to keep his personal wealth and title after the annexation in 1948 - he had been the richest man in the world during his rule and used a 184-carat diamond as a paperweight, at least until he realised its actual value. The current "pretender", Azhmet Jah, has worked as a cameraman and filmmaker in Hollywood, including with Steven Spielberg.

Pleasure Principle
Chapter 4: Bewilderment
Dave York x plus size OFC (Kiara)
Fanfiction 18+
Masterlist / Dave York Masterlist
Summary: The morning after is peaceful. Time together spent in limbo. One night Dave comes home later than usual and questions are asked.
Warnings: Agnst, some fluff, light smut, descriptions of injuries and blood, cursing
Notes: This series frustrates me in writing it but I also enjoy the chapters when I finally finish them. The same type of love and hate you’d feel with Dave York I believe. 🖤
Chapter 3
Sleep didn’t come easy to Dave York. His entire miliary carrier while in the service to the United States he only needed it to function and the same with his more lucrative wet work with his team. He would calculate how long he needed to sleep until they needed to prep for whatever target they were hunting next. Even when he began his pseudo civilian life with his wife and children, he found himself awake before dawn and used the time to run, working on future plans and scenarios for later missions with his crew. It was just something his body needed and if he required, he could wake himself, especially if he felt something may go wrong. Never knowing when his group may receive a new target to eliminate, he always needed to be ready, prepared.
After Kiara lost consciousness, he set to wiping body her down, cleaning between her legs and them himself. That was where his mind shifted. It didn’t occur to him that he shouldn’t get back in the bed and lay beside her, embracing her softness and admiring the bruises he had left of her body. The last he remembered, his lips touched the back of her neck, a soft sigh came from her lips that made his lips curve upward.
Dave York slept until the sun touched his back. It was an odd sensation, the heat on his shoulders and spine. The assassin stirred, he was groggy and found himself frowning. It meant slower reaction times and he could be surprised by an attack. Dave knew where he was though, so that was highly unlikely. Sitting up, he was the only one in the bed. He didn’t hear any water running from a shower or sink so she wasn’t in the bathroom. The clothes that he had removed last night were sitting in a chair in the corner of the bedroom on top of his duffle bag. They were folded and arranged according to what he would put on first, underwear on top and shirt on the bottom with pants and socks in between. He didn’t see the toys he had used last night either, getting out of the bed, he walked over to his clothes and just put the boxers on. Opening his bag, the toys had been put back, they had been washed and dried, but still her scent lingered on them. Taking the wand in his hand, he brought it closer to his face, inhaling her aroma, he then set it down in the bag and made his way out of the bedroom down the hallway he crept through last night. The first thing he heard was:
Perfect love you will never find
Say goodbye at what’s left behind
Your release is way overdue
Dave stood near the stairs, watching Kiara in front of the stove wearing a black t-shirt with blue cheeky panties. It smelled like she was making eggs and maybe bacon. Actual bacon and not turkey bacon, he heard the grease popping and was curious if she had an apron. If she didn’t, he’d buy he one just to see what she looked like with in on and nothing else. Her round shoulders shimmied from side to side with the beat, her voice carried throughout the kitchen and living room of her townhouse.
Let your tears be a friend to you
If it hurts just a little be glad on it
Don’t get caught in the middle
Thinking ‘ bout it
The assassin had heard her voice be loud and commanding at work, impatient and vulnerable with her moans; now he heard her sing. Booming and unencumbered, her vocals dictated control and a wide range of upper and lower registers. When she checked the bacon and put the finished pieces on a plate the nurses nimble hands moved in the air to the percussion on the drums as did her hips. Another smile crept across York’s face, her singing was nearly flawless, but the opulent woman didn’t have much in the way of rhythm which he found to be a fascinating paradox.
If it hurts just a little be glad of it
If you try you will see, what will be
Hurts just a little
Rounding the kitchen island carefully as she was focused elsewhere, Dave embraced Kiara from behind, his chest pressed against her back. His lips grazed the back of her neck, before he pulled back and licked her earlobe, he had bit into last night. She abruptly stopped singing as a moan left her lips instead. Placing her hands over his that caressed her stomach, she smiled and turned her head to look back.
“Good morning, Dave, you slept well I take it?”
“That I did Kiara. What’s for breakfast Peach?” A heat came to her cheeks, her hands squeezed his. His grin was felt on her ear.
“Eggs, bacon and bagels with cream cheese. I haven’t started the bagels yet. Give me five, no ten minutes tops. I figured it’d be fine since you don’t have any food allergies.” One of Dave’s hands, traveled up to her neck, kneading it slowly as she spoke, the vibrations as she spoke. He speculated as how strong the vibrations would be if he held her neck while she sung and while she moaned his name as he gave her the cock she craved.
“My smart Peach remembered. Good girl. Finish the eggs and bacon. I’ll start the bagels, which shelf is the cream cheese on?” Dave released her, putting his forehead on her shoulder briefly before heading to her fridge. Kiara spun to touch him, but he was already looking in the refrigerator.
“Top shelf, next to the jam and butter.” Her hands drew close to her body, attending to the stove, she added cheddar cheese to the eggs and cooked two more pieces of back for a total of six, three pieces for each of them. The shirt rode up into the small space between her ass and her back, she pulled out, but Dave who sunk a peek over at her while putting cream cheese on the first of four bagels, reached over and pulled her shirt back up.
“Your ass needs to be out. Pull it down again and I’ll have you cook some more bacon without that shirt on.” The knife he was using to spread the cream cheese on the bagel, the dishing on eggs and bacon onto plates were the only sounds heard for the next few minutes.
Kiara didn’t say anything. He sounded final on that point. She had been surprised that Dave was still in her bed in the morning, even more so when she realized that she had been cleaned properly and his arms and legs were wrapped around her. It made her lay in bed a little longer, comforted by his quiet breaths and arms holding her so tightly. The nurse was able to get out of his grip to go to the bathroom and shower, when she returned, she still found him in bed. In the same position she had left him in. Dave didn’t seem like the type of man to her at least to stay the night once he had finished with…well whatever they were going to call this. Her expectation was that he would text or call to tease her and then they would satisfy each other’s needs.
Not him cleaning her up.
Not him putting her to bed.
Not him staying the night.
Not him being here for breakfast.
Not him helping her wash the dishes and putting the dishes away.
Not him spending the morning here, poking fun at her lack of smooth moves.
Especially not him saying that she owed him a second breakfast because her song choice made him wonder if he should have gone further last night with punishment.
But having Dave York between your thighs teasing your clit as he shoves two thick fingers in and out of you isn’t something a girl turns down. Kiara certainly did not.
“Such a gushing cunt for me.” He told her as he flicked her clit, his teeth bit into the flesh of her upper thigh, York bit down three separate times in the same spot wanting to mark her again. The bruises would fade, he wanted something else that would last longer until he saw her later. Her nails dug into her shoulders, his contorted with pain, but returned to smile upon hearing his name louder. His hand stole away from her reddened clit and wrapped itself around her neck, squeezing slightly so he could palpate her pleasurable screams in real time. Her core oscillated as she leaked once again, nectar spilling on Dave’s hand, forearm, and the leather couch. The nurse’s body was limp as Dave stood, admiring his work.
It's going to happen now, surely, he’s going to fuck me and leave. Kiara panted on the couch, trying to anticipate being rammed with his cock, she parted her legs a bit more, but the assassin pulled her panties back into place and closed them, putting a throw blanket she had over her.
“Not now my eager Peach whore. You’ll wait.” He kissed her forehead and a small whisper came from her lips.
“Why?” Her voice still weak. Dave met her gaze, he too was confused. Normally he would have fucked her in the morning, shocked her with it. But he had amazed himself by feeling so…relaxed. He didn’t understand why though, or maybe he did and he didn’t want to think about it. Not now, it’s so muddled right now. Looking at her, so needy, willing to accept anything just to have him plunge deep into her.
“Kiara,” He crouched down in front of her face, “You’ll have your fill of me when you’re ready.” If she said no and was defiant, he would be well within his rights to deny her longer, buying him time. Resist. Say no, I know you have it in you.
“…Yes Sir. I just…” Come on, be cheeky, you’ve done it plenty at the hospital. “I thought you wanted to fill me because I’m yours.” Dave ran his fingers down her jaw, neck and then her large stomach, patting it. His head then planted on her tummy, making her chuckle. His warmth was making her even more tired than the orgasms she just had.
“Don’t touch yourself when I’m not here, you have to learn some patience. I’ll be back later tonight.” With that, Kiara was off to sleep, and Dave went upstairs and dressed, locking the house up before leaving. He went home and showered, needing to go to be on time for a facetime call with his daughters. The call went fine, with updates on both sides and finished with a short conversation with his ex-wife about a possible visit soon. Dave was fine with it; he’d just need to know when and hopefully he wouldn’t have an assignment then.
Much to Kiara’s surprise, Dave did return that night.
The two weeks alternated between Dave eating Kiara out, her sucking his dick, and the both questioning why they hadn’t gone past oral sex. The pair alternated who cooked dinner and breakfast the morning after. Kiara casually suggested that they could go eat brunch at a local café, thinking he was going to say no, Afterall the only place he saw her outside of her home was the hospital when his colleague was there, but Dave agreed. A few times, they didn’t have sex, just kissing cuddles and sleep.
One thing that was certain is that they would always sleep in her bed together. No matter if Kiara had a shift that day or Dave had to meet up with his colleagues for a ‘day trip assignment,’ she would crawl into bed after showering and curl up to York who was already in pseudo-death, shirtless in her bed. She was curious where this arrangement was headed.
The question was difficult.
Finding the right time to ask was difficult.
The possibility of Dave not being in her bed at night was difficult.
If he rejected her after she asked…what would she do then?
It was a Wednesday. The only reason Kiara knew was that she had been to work that day and was tired from her shift. A patient decided to leave AMA. Fine, just sign the paperwork. Instead, the patient decided to fight her and the tech saying that they were keeping him there against his will. Her shoulder was a still bit sore after he hit it with his backpack, the shower helped some. Tonight was different, it was 2am and Dave was not here. Had he gotten tired of her?
His hands throbbed and his back sizzled from drag across the pavement. York didn’t think any skin had come off his back, but he hadn’t checked yet. Unlocking the door was a tough task, his fingers were freezing on him, the pain wasn’t intolerable, but removing his gloves later may reveal bruised knuckles or possibly bloody ones. He just hoped she was asleep. He hadn’t told her what he did for work yet or even given her a white lie about it. What would she think when…wait, why should he care what she thinks? She’s, what is Kiara to Dave at this point? Dave entered her home and closed the door, locking it and kicked off his boots. His legs carried him over to the same couch he watched a movie with her the other night, her thick thighs draped over him as they watched ‘The Great British Baking Show.’ The only thing he had seen the woman bake was brownies from the box, but she loved laughing along with the hosts and contestants. York found himself watching her ever changing expressions on her face. His hands ran along the skin on her legs.
The assassin’s eyes closed, pressing his back against the couch felt better at first, and then worse so he sat at an angle to alleviate the pain. “Fuck…I…didn’t think I had it in me.” He normally would see the vet that the crew threw some money at to patch them up, but Dave knew he had a nurse who would put her delicate hands on him, likely scold him in a warm tone and he could sleep next to her again. He could wrap himself around her and be awakened by the sun again. “If I do put my cock in her, Kiara will need to sell this place and bring her and that bed of hers with her to my master suite.” His breaths slowed as he relaxed again, just the thought made him at ease.
The nurse had heard the front door open but hadn’t heard him moving up the stairs yet. Instead of the first few times stayed over, now he made sure to have his steps be heavy to announce his entrance into her bedroom. She popped on a robe over her oversized t-shirt and went downstairs, the lights were still off but she saw the back of his head above the couch. Walking toward him, he smiled warmly, “Dave, aren’t you coming to bed..? Shit. What happened?” Her eyes widened at the bruising to his jaw, assessing him, he wasn’t sitting properly in the chair, something with his back maybe? Why did he still have gloves on? “I’ll be right back.” Her hand tossed his chocolate hair as she went to the hall closet, getting out her first aid kit. It was about the size of a toolbox, she also turned on the living room light and removed her robe. She made a second trip for some towels and told Dave to remove his gloves slowly, it looked like there might be some blood dripping round his wrists.
“Take care of my back first Peach.”
“Your hands are dripping, not your back from what I can tell. I’m the medical professional here.” She snorted and donned a pair of gloves. A towel was placed under his hands in his lap before he set the back down. “I think I’m going to have to cut them off. I don’t want to pull any skin if I can help it.”
“Treat your patients like this do you?” Dave leaned forward and stretched his arms out a bit to make it easier. “Yeah, do it. I’ll need to get a new pair.”
“If I think they’re being unsafe, yes.” Her eyes hadn’t left his hands. He was surprised at her focus. “Keep still, these trauma sheers are sharp.” Kiara made the first small cut starting at his wrist and continued slowly upward, a gush came from his right palm and she quicky grabbed several pieces of gauze and pressed it into his palm to steady the slow of blood. “Damn…I don’t think it’s deep, I just think it kinda held the blood there and I opened the scab it was trying to make. I’m gonna get the rest of your glove off and see what I need to clean and wrap. Is your other hand the same?” She asked, finally making eye contact with him.
“Your scissors are fucking pink. That’s adorable.” He snickered, Kiara pursed her lips and pressed her thumb into his palm, causing Dave to wince. “What the fuck did you do that for?!”
“Applying extra pressure to the wound. It looks like I’ll be able to clean, disinfect and dress it.” A flat answer as she started working. A change of gloves after she cleaned his hand to see that the injury was more superficial, it had just taken a good chunk of skin off his hand. His knuckles were bruised and slightly bloody but should heal up just fine.
“Kiara, you’re not going to ask about my injuries?” Dave’s question came out as he thought it., she was nearly finished with his right hand. It throbbed but felt better out of the glove.
“I know your job is complicated. It’s something that can make a hospital shut up about a GSW along with whoever you work for. I’m not going to ask unless you tell me. I wouldn’t begin to know where to snoop to find out. Just…” She paused while cutting his left glove off. A little blood crusting with some bruises on his knuckles, but nothing major.
“Just what? Finish your thought.” She cleaned and wrapped his left hand and then helped him to remove his jacket and pulled proof vest. Remaining silent, Kiara picked up her first aid box and sat on her knees behind Dave, she pulled up his shirt. Most of his back seemed to be irritated the very top layer of skin was rubbed off and there were a few spots where he was bleeding, They were small, so she cleaned and used band-aids on them, seven spots in total. “Kiara.” He softly said he name while turning to look back at her.
“Just that I am insane. I keep waiting for you to leave and not come back but you always do. I’m well aware that you’re not a good man. Hell, you’re clearly dangerous, but” her soft fingers traced the outlines of the band-aids before pulling his shirt back down. “I don’t need you to be good. Just be honest with me. How long do you think things will continue between us?” The assassin’s back stiffened, confusion was sprayed on his face, and he whipped around to see her puffy eyes, tears hadn’t fallen yet. “I just need to know about supplies, food and your glove size since I’ll owe you a pair of gloves now.” She stood, packing her box back up and looked down on Dave, it was a feeling he did not appreciate. “I want to know how much longer you’ll warm my bed for David.” With that vitriol, she turned, and he assumed but the first aid kit away before stomping up the stairs.
No even his crazy-ass ex-wife showed him such defiance. Dave, flexed his fingers, feeling the bandages become slightly slicker with blood. He didn’t care at this point. How dare she speak to him like that considering what he was thinking ten minutes ago.
“This is some bullshit. Fuck that attitude. Calling me David and shit…” The injured man, patted down his jacket and pants until he found them, nodding, he removed them from his jacket and stuck them in his back pants pocket. York headed upstairs, now was the time.

Old Italia Pier Apartments - (Anchorpoint Wharf - San Sequoia)
Residential Rental - 4 Multi-story Apartments + Shared Ground floor amenities.
"The Old Italia Pier Apartments have seen generations of people come to SimNation to make their fortune. Originally built to house an influx of Sims from the Old Country, it has played host to families from across the world. The final residents left knowing their former homes would tell their stories. The previously commercial ground floor was repurposed and now boasts a laundromat, pool complex, gym and hobby centre."
Sims 4 Gallery: https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/pc/gallery/7ADA558610F54770BC00977979535727?category=all&searchtype=ea_origin_id&sortby=downloads&time=all&searchquery=Simmy93&max=50&maxis=false
A Tour of the Lot
The Exterior:
Designed to preserve the exterior design of the original property, the four apartments are accessed by two dedicated yards with trash access. The 'main street' of the now quiet pier was once host to hundreds of sims a day but is now a shared space for the tenants to enjoy some outdoor time together. The name 'Old Italia' is inspired by the patriotic paintjob left by the original inhabitants way back when the Pier was still an active fish market.
The Communal Spaces:
Although the outside of the former shops and services have remained unchanged, the interiors could not have changed more. Unlike the upstairs homes, the commercial property had no prospect of enduring and has since been repurposed for truly luxurious living.
Long Game Gym / Formerly Granny Beth's Bits n' Bobs
Once owned by the final inhabitant of the apartment above, Granny Beth's Bits n' Bobs was once the one stop shop for anything craft related in the local area. After a lucrative creative career Elizabeth 'Beth' McCann set about spreading her pink vision of the world. Unfortunately her rival and neighbour would have the last laugh as her grandson bought out the craft shop and replaced it with a gym inspired by his grandmother's domino aesthetic.
Adriatic Laundry Services / Formerly The Red Crane
Renowned as the best Asian cuisine this side of the Simissippi, the Red Crane was once the favourite spot of celebrities far and wide. Despite the fame, the owner never took advantage and became well known for his fair prices and wholesome family image.
Once attached to the apartments above, the Red Crane's kitchen still exists in the private residence and aspiring Chefs from across the country bid to stay for as long as they can, hoping they absorb some of that magic.
Now however, the once booming restaurant is providing services which removes grease from clothes, rather than contributing to it!
The Green Dragon / Formerly Bountiful Bouquets
Few people know, but San Sequoia used to be the source of many flower imports into SimNation, and no where else could the freshest and most exotic flora be found. Taking advantage of this luck was Bountiful Bouquets who it is said created the bouquets for a Royal Wedding!
Nowadays the shop has been converted into a community hobby centre; chess, painting, archaeology, woodwork and of course, flower arranging are available to any resident.
The Hidden Oasis / Formerly Giuseppe's Fishmonger
The heartbeat of the local economy was appropriately nestled in the middle of the main street trading in the best that came off the fishing boats. It was the only commercial endeavour that saw the start of the pier, and the end.
Afterwards it underwent the largest renovation of the four properties and was developed into a community pool. Decadence awaits you as you descend into a desert oasis amongst the busy suburban life. Equipped with pool, adult hot tub area and even a kids activity room, every member of the family can enjoy their day hiding from the desert sun.
The Apartments:
The Pink Lady - 2 bed, 1 bath. Unit Value: §75,628
One half of the most famous duo to be residents at the Old Italia Pier was Elizabeth 'Beth' McCann, a woman who it can safely be said, enjoyed pink. After a glittering career with her sister in the silent era of film she made the transition to the talkies, and then to colour films unlike her sister who seemed to be unable to keep up.
This lifelong resentment led to a bitter rivalry between the siblings, although most of it was aimed at Beth who for all intents and purposes was living her best life. Never marrying, Beth would adopt a son with her long time partner though they would later part ways causing scandal in the tabloids.
Tragedy would touch the McCann household despite Beth's happy disposition and she would end up raising her grandchildren after the death of her son and his wife necessitating some remodelling to accommodate such a lofty task.
No longer able to tread the boards or walk the red carpet, Beth consolidated her royalties and opened her 'Granny Beth's Bits n' Bobs' craft store and settled in for a quiet life.
The home has seen a lot of love, a lot of tears and a lot of knitting. It is perfect for an elder sim, or a small family of comfortable means.

Common Carpet Stains and How We Tackle Them: Harrow’s Expert Tips
Common Carpet Stains and How We Tackle Them: Harrow’s Expert Tips
Carpets are a beautiful addition to any home, but they are often subjected to various stains. Whether it’s the result of an unfortunate accident or simply the wear and tear of daily life, knowing how to effectively deal with common carpet stains can make a significant difference in the overall appearance of your home. At Shine Plus Carpet Cleaning, we specialize in providing top-notch carpet cleaning services in Harrow, ensuring that your carpets remain fresh and vibrant. Here are some of the most common carpet stains we encounter and how we tackle them using professional methods.
1. Wine Stains: A Tough Challenge
Wine stains are one of the most dreaded stains for homeowners. Whether it's red or white, wine can seep into the fibers of your carpet, causing a permanent mark if not treated promptly. The acidic nature of wine makes it difficult to clean using ordinary methods.
How We Tackle Wine Stains:
At Shine Plus Carpet Cleaning, we employ a professional stain removal technique that starts with blotting the stain with a clean cloth, ensuring that excess wine is removed before applying a specialized stain remover. Our team then uses an advanced cleaning solution designed to break down the wine’s tannins and acids, followed by deep extraction to lift the stain from the carpet fibers.
After a thorough clean and dry, your carpet will look as good as new, without the telltale signs of a wine spill. Our carpet cleaning services in Harrow ensure that no trace of the stain remains, restoring the vibrancy of your carpet.

2. Coffee Spills: An Everyday Issue
Coffee is another common culprit when it comes to carpet stains. Spilling coffee can cause an unsightly brown stain that becomes more challenging to remove the longer it sits. If not treated quickly, the stain may set, and you may need professional intervention.
How We Tackle Coffee Stains:
Our team at Shine Plus Carpet Cleaning begins by using a gentle blotting technique to remove as much liquid as possible. We then apply a specialized stain treatment that targets coffee residues, breaking down the oils and tannins. Once the solution has been applied, we use our high-powered extraction system to pull the stain out from the deepest fibers, leaving your carpet clean and refreshed.
With our carpet cleaning in Harrow services, you can trust that your carpet will look flawless once again.

3. Pet Accidents: A Frequent Occurrence
Pet accidents, especially urine stains, are a common issue for pet owners. Not only do these stains leave behind unpleasant odors, but they can also cause damage to your carpet if not cleaned properly. The ammonia in urine can bond with carpet fibers, creating long-lasting stains and smells.
How We Tackle Pet Accidents:
We understand the importance of thorough cleaning when it comes to pet accidents. Our approach includes using enzymatic cleaners specifically designed to break down the bacteria and enzymes in pet urine. This method not only removes the stain but also neutralizes any odors, leaving your carpet fresh and hygienic.
At Shine Plus Carpet Cleaning, we use powerful steam cleaning equipment to extract the stains and any remaining bacteria from the carpet, ensuring your home is clean and smelling fresh again. Our expert technicians make sure your carpet is free of both stains and odors, providing you with a pet-friendly environment.
Before and After Image:

4. Grease and Oil Stains: Common in Kitchens
Grease and oil stains are common in households with kitchens and high-traffic areas. Whether it’s from a cooking accident or an oily spill, these stains can be tough to remove without the right tools and techniques.
How We Tackle Grease and Oil Stains:
Our process for dealing with grease and oil stains starts with applying a degreasing agent that is designed to break down the oils without damaging the carpet fibers. After allowing the solution to penetrate the stain, we use steam cleaning equipment to lift the grease from the carpet. Finally, we extract any residue, ensuring that your carpet is spotless.
With our carpet cleaning services in London, we are able to remove even the most stubborn grease stains, leaving your carpet looking pristine once again.
Before and After Image:

5. Ink Stains: A Tricky But Manageable Problem
Ink stains can be tricky to remove, especially if they come from a pen or printer. They often set quickly and can be challenging to get out without professional help.
How We Tackle Ink Stains:
For ink stains, we use specialized solvents that are designed to break down the ink’s chemical compounds. After applying the solvent to the stain, we gently blot the area and use our carpet cleaning in London system to extract the stain without damaging the carpet fibers. Our technicians are trained in handling ink stains to ensure that your carpet looks as good as new.
Before and After Image:

6. Blood Stains: A Serious Concern
Blood stains are another challenging stain to deal with, especially if they are allowed to dry. The proteins in blood can bond with carpet fibers, making it crucial to act quickly to remove the stain before it sets.
How We Tackle Blood Stains:
At Shine Plus Carpet Cleaning, we use cold water and specialized enzymatic cleaners to lift the blood stain from the carpet. We avoid hot water, as it can cause the blood to set further into the fibers. After applying the cleaner, our high-powered extraction system removes the stain and any remaining residues, ensuring your carpet is completely free of the stain.
Before and After Image:

Minimizing Fire Risks in Commercial Kitchens: The Essential Role of Exhaust Hood Cleaning
In commercial kitchens, safety is paramount, and one of the most essential tasks for maintaining a safe cooking environment is routine exhaust hood cleaning. Over time, grease, oils, and food particles accumulate in kitchen exhaust hoods, creating a significant fire risk if left unchecked. Regular cleaning of the exhaust hood is crucial not only for fire prevention but also for maintaining a healthier and more efficient kitchen.
Why Exhaust Hood Cleaning is Vital for Fire Safety
When cooking, especially in high-heat commercial settings, tiny grease particles and fumes are released into the air and collected by the kitchen’s ventilation system. As these particles build up inside the exhaust hood and ducts, they create a highly flammable layer. In fact, a single spark or high heat exposure is often enough to ignite the accumulated grease, causing a fire that can spread rapidly throughout the kitchen and ventilation system.
With regular kitchen exhaust hood cleaning, you remove this hazardous grease buildup, reducing the chance of a fire hazard significantly. Not only does this protect your kitchen from potential fires, but it also creates a safer working environment for your staff and customers.
Setting a Regular Cleaning Schedule
The frequency of kitchen exhaust hood cleaning depends on the type and volume of cooking conducted in the kitchen:
High-Grease Kitchens: Fast-food kitchens, 24-hour operations, and similar establishments that produce large amounts of grease should clean their exhaust hoods at least once a month.
Moderate-Grease Kitchens: Restaurants with moderate grease production, such as sit-down dining establishments, typically benefit from quarterly cleanings.
Low-Grease Kitchens: Facilities with minimal grease output, such as community centers or seasonal kitchens, may need semi-annual cleanings.
Following these recommended cleaning schedules helps ensure your kitchen remains fire-safe and compliant with safety regulations.
Additional Benefits of Regular Exhaust Hood Cleaning
While fire prevention is a primary concern, regular exhaust hood cleaning brings other valuable benefits:
Improved Air Quality: Clean exhaust systems remove smoke, grease, and odors more effectively, keeping the kitchen air fresher and healthier for staff and customers alike.
Increased Energy Efficiency: Grease buildup can restrict airflow, causing the ventilation system to work harder and consume more energy. Regular cleaning restores efficient airflow, reducing energy costs and extending the lifespan of the ventilation equipment.
Enhanced Kitchen Compliance: Many local regulations require commercial kitchens to maintain clean exhaust systems. Routine exhaust hood cleaning ensures you stay compliant with these codes, avoiding potential fines and enhancing your kitchen’s reputation.
Choosing Professional Cleaning for Optimal Results
Professional kitchen exhaust hood cleaning services have the tools and expertise needed to clean all parts of the exhaust system, including hard-to-reach areas that can accumulate dangerous grease deposits. DIY cleaning often misses crucial sections, leaving behind residues that can still pose a fire risk. Professional cleaners, on the other hand, thoroughly remove these buildups, providing peace of mind and ensuring that your kitchen remains safe.
In the high-energy environment of a commercial kitchen, prioritizing exhaust hood cleaning might seem challenging, but the risks of neglecting it are far too great. A regular cleaning schedule not only keeps your kitchen safe from potential fire hazards but also supports a healthier and more productive working environment. By investing in professional cleaning, you’re not just minimizing fire risks—you’re investing in the long-term safety, efficiency, and reputation of your kitchen.

VCCG90SS Viali Rangehood Carbon Filter CF110 Genuine
The VCCG90SS Viali Rangehood Carbon Filter CF110 Genuine is a high-quality, essential accessory designed to enhance the performance of your Viali rangehood. For those who enjoy cooking regularly, the ability to keep the kitchen air fresh and free from unwanted odors and grease is crucial. The CF110 carbon filter is specifically engineered to trap grease, smoke, and cooking odors, ensuring your kitchen remains clean, healthy, and comfortable. As a genuine part, this carbon filter guarantees optimal performance and a perfect fit for your Viali rangehood, making it a smart choice for maintaining your kitchen’s air quality.
Superior Odor Elimination
Cooking can produce a variety of strong smells, from the scent of fried foods to the smokiness of grilling. These odors can linger long after the cooking is finished, making the kitchen unpleasant and impacting the rest of your home. The VCCG90SS Viali Rangehood Carbon Filter CF110 Genuine excels in removing cooking odors. Its advanced activated carbon technology absorbs and neutralizes these persistent smells, ensuring that your kitchen stays fresh and free from unpleasant aromas. Whether you're preparing a quick weeknight dinner or hosting a dinner party, this carbon filter helps maintain a pleasant environment for everyone.
Grease and Smoke Filtration
In addition to neutralizing odors, the CF110 carbon filter plays a critical role in filtering out smoke and grease particles. Cooking at high heat can produce smoke and grease, which may not only affect the air quality but also cause greasy deposits on your kitchen surfaces, appliances, and rangehood itself. Over time, this buildup can diminish the performance of your rangehood and lead to longer cleaning times.
The VCCG90SS Viali Rangehood Carbon Filter CF110 captures and traps these particles, preventing them from circulating through the kitchen. This not only keeps the air clean but also helps maintain the efficiency of your rangehood, ensuring that it performs optimally for years.
Genuine Replacement for Viali Rangehoods
When it comes to kitchen appliances, using genuine replacement parts is essential to ensuring your rangehood performs at its best. The VCCG90SS Viali Rangehood Carbon Filter CF110 is designed specifically for Viali rangehood models, making it the perfect choice for replacement. Choosing a genuine carbon filter over generic options guarantees that the filter will fit perfectly, function properly, and maintain the longevity of your rangehood.
Non-genuine filters can compromise the performance of your rangehood, leading to less effective filtration, poor airflow, and possibly even damage to your appliance. By opting for the CF110, you ensure that your rangehood operates as designed, providing high-quality air filtration and enhancing the kitchen environment.
Easy Installation and Maintenance
One of the key advantages of the VCCG90SS Viali Rangehood Carbon Filter CF110 is its easy installation process. Most homeowners can replace the filter themselves, saving time and money on professional services. Simply remove the old filter, slide in the new one, and your rangehood is ready to go. This hassle-free installation means that you can restore your kitchen’s air quality in no time.
Maintaining the CF110 carbon filter is also simple. Over time, the activated carbon becomes saturated with grease and odors, reducing its effectiveness. To ensure continuous high performance, it’s recommended to replace the carbon filter every 3 to 6 months, depending on how frequently you cook. Regular replacement will keep your rangehood working at its best and your kitchen air fresh.
Healthier Kitchen Environment
Maintaining clean air in the kitchen is important for the health of everyone in the home. Cooking produces smoke and airborne particles, some of which can be harmful if inhaled over time. The CF110 carbon filter helps eliminate these particles, ensuring that your kitchen remains a safe and comfortable space. By reducing the concentration of smoke and grease, the CF110 contributes to a healthier environment and supports better respiratory health, particularly for those with allergies or asthma.
In addition, removing cooking odors prevents them from settling on fabrics, countertops, and furniture, which could otherwise lead to the accumulation of unpleasant smells in your home.
Cost-Effective and Long-Lasting
The VCCG90SS Viali Rangehood Carbon Filter CF110 Genuine is a cost-effective solution for maintaining your rangehood’s performance and keeping your kitchen air clean. Rather than replacing the entire rangehood or dealing with poor air filtration, simply replacing the carbon filter restores the functionality of your rangehood and ensures it continues to operate efficiently.
Furthermore, the CF110 is built to last for several months with proper maintenance. The long-lasting nature of the carbon filter makes it a worthwhile investment for homeowners who want to extend the life of their Viali rangehood and maintain a clean and odor-free kitchen.
Conclusion
The VCCG90SS Viali Rangehood Carbon Filter CF110 Genuine is an indispensable component for anyone looking to improve the air quality in their kitchen. Offering effective odor, grease, and smoke filtration, this genuine carbon filter ensures that your Viali rangehood continues to perform at its best. Its ease of installation, minimal maintenance requirements, and long-lasting results make it an excellent choice for maintaining a fresh, clean kitchen. By investing in the CF110, you ensure that your cooking environment remains comfortable, safe, and pleasant for everyone in your home.

Spotting issues early on can help you decide when it’s time for kitchen exhaust hood repair services. Here are some common warning signs that indicate your system may need attention:
Unusual Noises: Grinding, rattling, or other strange sounds from the exhaust fan can point to issues with the fan motor or bearings. These noises often indicate that parts are wearing out and may need repair or replacement.
Reduced Airflow: A well-functioning exhaust hood should effectively pull air out of the kitchen. If you notice a decrease in airflow, it could mean clogged filters or blocked ducts, which can restrict ventilation and require professional exhaust hood repair.
Visible Grease Accumulation: If grease is dripping from the edges of the exhaust hood, it signals excessive buildup inside. This can reduce the system's efficiency and increase fire risks, making immediate cleaning and repair essential.
Persistent Smoke and Odors: Lingering smoke and cooking odors in the kitchen may suggest that the exhaust hood is not working properly. This could be due to a failing fan or clogged filters that need attention.
What to Do When You Notice Exhaust Hood Issues
When you detect signs of trouble, it’s important to take swift action to avoid more costly kitchen exhaust hood repair needs. Here’s what you can do:
1. Inspect and Clean Filters
Begin by checking the filters for grease buildup. Cleaning or replacing dirty filters can restore airflow and improve ventilation. This is an easy first step before considering more extensive repairs.
2. Schedule Professional Inspections
If issues persist after cleaning, it may be time to call an exhaust hood repair company. Professional technicians can pinpoint underlying problems, such as motor issues or duct blockages, and provide comprehensive solutions.
DIY Maintenance vs. Professional Repair Services
Some maintenance tasks, like cleaning filters and checking for visible wear, can be handled in-house. However, more complex repairs, such as motor replacements or duct cleaning, require professional expertise. Choosing the right approach can save time and ensure the repairs are done correctly.
Keep Your Kitchen Safe with Proactive Maintenance
Regular maintenance and early detection are key to avoiding significant kitchen exhaust hood repair needs. By staying alert to unusual noises, reduced airflow, and other warning signs, you can maintain the efficiency of your kitchen’s ventilation system. Don’t let small issues become major problems—proactive maintenance helps ensure a safe and effective kitchen environment.
