Four years later
The laughter of Isabelle and Aria resonates in all the small park near their house. Aria loves her daughter more than anything in the world, and doesn’t think about Luke often, well she tries not to think about it every day and that already something. But Luke, finally back after a difficult mission to the other side of the world, surprises a scene that he interprets in the wrong way... For him, it is now certain, nothing keeps him here.

Would you believe I woke up at 4 am, and I've spent every hour since 5 bingeing episodes from Season One of The Batman (2004)? Because that's how I've spent my morning. Man-Bat, Catwoman, The Ventriloquist and Scarface, The Penguin and Joker. I remember the Cluemaster episode (and i'm like 90% sure he doesn't do anything major in the tie-in comics), so I'm gonna skip him. So all I have left in Season One is Mister Freeze, Firefly and the birth of Clayface?
I didn't realize Dan Castellaneta was The Ventriloquist and Scarface until I learned about it online recently. But then I watched the episode, and yeah. Yeah, I could kind of tell. Scarface kind of sounded like Dan Castellaneta doing Krusty the Clown, just with slightly more menace. But I think his voice for Wesker was just his natural voice, which I found pretty cool. Also pretty cool: having Clancy Brown and John DiMaggio (presumably) playing Rhino and Mugsy. If it really was them, then this is the second 2000s superhero show they've done together. I remember their team as Sandman and the Rhino. The Spectacular Spider-Man (and maybe 5-6 episodes of the 90s X-Men and Spider-Man) was the Marvel animated show that defined my childhood. Batman (2004) and Batman: The Brave and The Bold (plus one or two episodes of btas and justice league) were my DC animated shows.

im so ready for homer to get voted out in the first round

You're saying someone that looks like THIS would be so unpopular on tumblr? Unfounded.
In seriousness, I wonder if I should use more flattering pictures for certain characters like Clancy, Grampa, or Kirk, just to level the field a bit.

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, the new movie from Kirk DeMicco and Faryn Pearl, is out today.
Sweet, awkward 16-year-old Ruby Gillman (Lana Condor) is desperate to fit in at Oceanside High, but she mostly just feels invisible.
She’s math-tutoring her skater-boy crush (Jaboukie Young-White), who only seems to admire her for her fractals, and she’s prevented from hanging out with the cool kids at the beach because her over-protective supermom (Toni Collette), has forbade Ruby from ever getting in the water.
But when she breaks her mom’s #1 rule, Ruby will discover that she is a direct descendant of the warrior Kraken queens and is destined to inherit the throne from her commanding grandmother (Jane Fonda), the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas.
The Kraken are sworn to protect the oceans of the world against the vain, power-hungry mermaids who have been battling with the Kraken for eons. There’s one major, and immediate, problem with that: The school’s beautiful, popular new girl, Chelsea (Annie Murphy) just happens to be a mermaid. Ruby will ultimately need to embrace who she is and go big to protect those she loves most.

The fourth season of Jack Ryan, the TV series from Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland, is out today.
Convergence has begun. John Krasinski is back for The Final Season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.

Star Trek Captains at IKEA Intergalactic
(as coined by the incredibly talented @procrastinatorproject in her IKEA Intergalactic fic)

Janeway gets lost in IKEA for seven hours.
Sisko lies, he cheats, he bribes IKEA employees to cover the shifts of other IKEA employees. And he can live with it.
Kirk believes the IKEA needs to learn to govern itself.
Picard thinks his IKEA is the best of the best of IKEAs.
(Clancy tells Picard to get the fuck out of her IKEA.)
Archer protests IKEA’s “no pets allowed” policy.
Georgiou doesn’t get to spend enough time at IKEA, but she’s really great while she’s there.
Lorca shops at Amazon.
Pike buys extra IKEA Swedish meatballs to take home to his friends.
Burnham goes through a bunch of harrowing events, but the IKEA furniture is finally loaded into her car, at which point she says, “Let’s fly,” and drives out of the parking lot.
Freeman gets Mariner a kids’ meal, which Mariner pretends to dislike but actually loves even more than “the good mac and cheese” from the replicator because, hello, it’s IKEA Intergalactic and it’s awesome.

Kangaroo Westerns!
After my last post about “The Overlanders”, I wanted to share some more Australian made westerns that I like. I’m building a list of the best ones to share. Today’s is “The Man from Snowy River”(1982)

So, this movie and the Banjo Patterson poem it’s inspired by have a legendary status. It’s part of the framework of Australia and it is everywhere. It inspired festivals and arena shows, imagery from it was even used to open the Olympic Games in 2000.
The movie centers on eighteen year old Jim Craig (Tom Burlinson), who lives on a homestead in the Snowy Mountains in Victoria with his father, Henry.

Henry is killed in an accident involving a mob of brumbies, wild horses. The brumbies are lead by a black stallion. This stallion is a character in itself. He’s smart, aggressive and dangerous. There’s something very foreboding and terrifying about the stallion.

Jim is told by other mountain men that he has to earn the right to live in the mountains before he can call his fathers land his own. He heads down the mountains to find work. A close friend of his father, Spur (Kirk Douglas), gives Jim a mountain horse as Jim’s own horse had escaped and joined the brumbies.

Fun fact. This movie has Kirk Douglas playing a double roll. He plays estranged twin brothers, Spur and Harrison.

Spur is a miner, who’s been working on the same mine for twenty years with no luck but is convinced the gold is there. Harrison is a wealthy cattle rancher.
Jim gets a job working for Harrison and starts to fall in love with Harrison’s daughter, Jessica (Sigrid Thornton).

Harrison has recently bought a prize colt. The last colt foaled by the thoroughbred Old Regret and worth 1000 pounds (About a quarter million dollars today)
The colt needs to be saddle-broken and while Harrison’s away, Jim and Jessica work on breaking in the colt. Jim’s approach is different to the others. He gains the horses trust before trying to ride it. (I think it was believed that by breaking a horse gently it would become to docile and useless. Something that’s none today to be false.)
When Harrison finds out that Jim and Jessica were working with the valuable horse, he explode in anger. Jessica flees into the mountains, looking for Jim who went out to retrieve some stray cattle. Lost in a storm, Jessica falls from a cliff and is trapped on a ledge overnight. Th next day Jim finds her and pulls her to safety.

(Everyone remember the Rawhide episode where Gil pulled Rowdy from the well? Like that)

Jim takes Jessica to Spur’s place to meet the uncle she never knew existed and begins to learn her family’s secret history. After they bring Jessica home, the truth is revealed about Spur and Harrison’s story. They had both been in love with the same girl, Matilda. She couldn’t decide which brother to marry, so she said whoever became wealthy first she would marry. Spur tried to mine for gold. Harrison got lucky in a horse race. Matilda married Harrison but he was jealous and possessive. Spur gifted her a horse, the first colt of Old Regret. Fearing Harrison would kill the horse, she set it free. Spur saw the horse was loose and went to tell Matilda. Harrison saw them together, assumed they were having an affair and shot his brother. Spur lost a leg from the injury. Matilda later died giving birth to Jessica. The colt Matilda set free joined the brumbies and is now their leader, the black stallion.
Harrison fires Jim to get him away from Jessica. That same night, some ranch hands set the prize colt loose hoping Jim will be blamed.
A call is put out for all riders to track down the brumbies and get back the colt. Jim comes back to join them and is defended by Clancy (Jack Thompson), a well respected horseman who was friends with Jim’s father.

This is where the most iconic part of the movie is, the scene from the poem. The riders find the brumbies and give chase through the scrub land and forest, until they come to the top of an extremely steep slope. The brumbies go over, but the riders stop, unable to take on the slope. Except Jim, who just goes straight over the edge. The combination of his riding skill and his mountain horse makes him able to survive the decent and keep up with the brumbies.

( I have been told this scene must be watched on big screen for full effect) (This is also not stunt doubles or trick photography. That’s actually the actor riding a horse down a cliff. It was filmed in one take)
The other rides loose sight of Jim and the brumbies, assuming the chase lost.
Jim, however, keeps up the chase, eventually bringing them to a stop and facing down the stallion.

Capturing and facing down the stallion is both closure for his father because he’s won over the thing that caused his father’s death. It’s also an unspoken right of passage for Jim. The stallion is the toughest thing in the mountains. He’s just outlasted and outsmarted this legendary being. He’s become a man and earned the right to live on the mountain by defeating the stallion.

Jim takes the brumbies back to Harrison’s. Before leaving, he states that he’ll return for his share of the horses and for Jessica if she wants him (She does).

Now worthy of the mountains, Jim returns to his homestead.
So. That’s “The Man from Snowy River”. Like I said at the top, this story is such a big part of Australian culture. But it’s also a really beautifully made movie. It really is art. Look at some of these shots.

The cinematography is gorgeous. And the music is beautiful. Here’s a link for the main theme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq8bufY8xRk
This is one of the best kangaroo westerns. It’s a classic.
Also something cool. Jim’s homestead, known as Craig’s Hut, is still there. You can hike or drive to it, go there for picnics. I haven’t had the chance to visit it yet but I will as soon as I get the chance.
#Hope you guys liked this#The Man From Snowy River#The Man From Snowy River 1982#Tom Burlinson#Kirk Douglas#Sigrig Thornton#Kangaroo Western

movie recommendations
because I randomly feel like it.
The Hunt for Red October (1990): Adaptation of Tom Clancy's book of the same name. Stars Sean Connery (Marko Ramias), Alec Baldwin (Jack Ryan), Scott Glenn (Bart Mancuso), James Earl Jones (James Greer), Sam Neill (Vasili Borodin), and also has several other actors I like. Since this is a Marvel blog, I will add that Stellan Skarsgard, the actor for Erik Selvig, is Tupolev. During the late Cold War, the Soviet Union built the Red October, a massive submarine built with new technology so that SONAR could not detect it. Ramias, captain of the Red October means to defect to the United States. Ryan, a CIA analyst, deduces this and has to prove his theory to the US Navy before it's too late.
Ocean's Eleven (2001): Remake of a 1960 film, Ocean's 11. Stars George Clooney (Danny Ocean), Brad Pitt (Rusty Ryan), Matt Damon (Linus Caldwell), Julia Roberts (Tess Ocean), and Andy Garcia (Terry Benedict). Again, Marvel blog, I'll let y'all know Don Cheadle is in it as Basher Tarr. Danny and Rusty plan a $160 million heist of a Vegas casino owned by Benedict, the lover of Danny's ex-wife Tess. They assemble a team to steal the casino's money
Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016): Adaptation of the book Wild Pork and Watercress by Barry Crump. Stars Sam Neill (Hector or Hec), Julian Dennison (Ricky Baker), Rima Te Wiata (Bella), and Rachel House (Paula). Again, Marvel blog, so I'll tell you it's directed by Taika Waititi. So he has a cameo in it that is hilarious. Hec and his foster son, Ricky, don't get along all that well. After a crazy turn of events leaving Ricky and Hec stranded in the New Zealand bush for a couple weeks before social services were supposed to pick up Ricky, the authorities assume Hec kidnapped Ricky. The two live on the run in the bush and grow close. It's a Waititi movie, meaning that it is a comedy used to discuss a more serious topic, in this case chosen families. It is hilarious and had me laughing so much when I watched it.
Invictus (2009): Based on John Carlin's book Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and The Game That Made a Nation, which is in turn based on real life events in South Africa. Stars Morgan Freeman (Nelson Mandela) and Matt Damon (Francois Pienaar). It is shortly after apartheid and Mandela's election as president. There are lots of racial tensions in South Africa and Mandela wants to find a way to unite the country. Mandela decides to help the national rugby team win the 1995 Rugby World Cup in order to create something both whites and blacks can agree on and hope for together.
The Sixth Sense (1999): Stars Bruce Willis (Malcom Crowe) and Haley Joe Osment (Cole Sear). Malcom Crowe is a child psychologist trying to help Cole. Malcom eventually learns something supernatural is happening. Can't say too much, I don't want to spoil it since it blew me away.
Hatari! (1962): Swahili for "danger." Stars John Wayne (Sean Mercer) and Elsa Martinelli (Dallas). Sean and several others are professional game catchers in Africa. Dallas, a photographer, shows up unannounced. A series of funny events happens afterwards.
Swiss Family Robinson (1960): Based on Johann David Wyss's book The Swiss Family Robinson. Starring Johann Mills (Father Robinson), Dorothy McGuire (Mother Robinson), James MacArthur (Fritz Robinson), Tommy Kirk (Ernst Robinson), Kevin Corcoran (Francis Robinson), and Janet Munro (Roberta). A Swiss family is on a boat to New Guinea when pirates attack and the ship flees into a storm. They shipwreck not far off from an island. They have to build a life for themselves on the island and learn to love the island. But they have to be careful - the pirates are still out there.
Darby O'Gill and the Little People (1959): Based on Herminie Templeton Kavanagh's Darby O'Gill stories. Stars Albert Sharpe (Darby O'Gill), Janet Munro (Katie O'Gill), Sean Connery (Michal McBride), and Jimmy O'Dea (King Brian). Darby captures King Brian, king of the Little People, who grants Darby three wishes. At the same time, Darby's landlord sent Michael to live in the townhouse and expected Darby to move elsewhere that required less maintenance now that Darby is old. Katie and Michael start to fall in love.

The Big Post About All My Playlists
now that star trek has consumed my life, i’ve been pretty set on making playlists for every character i can think of one for ! this is super self-indulgent, but if the prospect of star trek character playlists interests you too, here’s a big masterpost of sorts for these.
To Boldly Go... 💫 (James T. Kirk)
This is a high energy playlist, with predominately pop & alt pop music. Some of the bands/singers/songwriters on the playlist are The Happy Fits, Bad Suns, and COIN. The songs often have themes of enjoying yourself/enjoying life, being loyal and willing to fight for what and who you care about, having a lot of aspirations, and a lot of love to give. Here’s 3 songs from the playlist, to showcase The Vibes™️:
Go Dumb by The Happy Fits
Wishful Thinking by BENEE
I’m Not Having Any Fun by Bad Suns
Fascinating. 🖖 (S’chn T’gai Spock)
Spock’s playlist is more slow and chill, though at times the songs can be bursting at the seams with emotion. The songs on it are mostly neo-folk and alternative music. Bastille, Florence + The Machine, and The Narcissist Cookbook are the predominant singers/songwriters/bands on the playlist. Songs on this playlist tend to have themes of longing, emotional vulnerability, and reflection not only about oneself but also of ones surroundings and of other people. Here’s 3 songs from the playlist that capture its essence:
Down The Line by José González
Let’s Talk About Feelings by Joywave
MOTH by The Narcissist Cookbook
I’m a Doctor, Not a... 🦴 (Leonard “Bones” McCoy)
The playlist for McCoy is full of ups and downs with lots of songs tending to have a faster melody but lots that are slower, though one thing is certain: all of the songs are country (maybe an occasional soft rock song, too). The predominant bands/singers/songwriters included are Jerry Reed, Bruce Springsteen, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Most of the songs included in the playlist explore themes of moving away and leaving your hometown, enjoying the countryside, and standing your ground. 3 songs that would best sum up the playlist are:
Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going To Be A Long, Long Time) by Elton John
Southern Nights by Glen Campbell
When You’re Hot, You’re Hot by Jerry Reed
I’ll Protect You, Fair Maiden! 🤺 (Hikaru Sulu)
Full of high energy songs and tunes perfect for dancing, Sulu’s playlist is mostly dance-electronic music and dance-pop. Some notable singers/songwriters/bands on the playlist are Junior Senior, Vantage, and Fitz and the Tantrums. The themes of the music are the typical kind for dance music: having a good time, enjoying yourself, and just vibing. Here are 3 songs from the playlist that show off its vibes:
It’s Good to See You Again!! by Adrianwave
Stunnin’ (feat. Harm Franklin) by Curtis Waters
Fool by Fitz and The Tantrums
Sorry, Neither 📕 (Nyota Uhura)
This playlist is a badass playlist, no question about it: the songs are high energy with an uplifting and sometimes intense tone, varying from pop to R&B/soul. Qveen Herby, Ava Max, and Doja Cat dominate this playlist. The themes of the music focus on being a badass woman, loving yourself, and enjoying your day with some good tunes. Here’s 3 songs from the playlist that really show the vibes:
Just Fine by Mary J. Blige
Trophy Girl by Qveen Herby
Good Thing (with Kehlani) by Zedd
Flawlessly Logical ⚔️ (T’pring)
T’pring‘s playlist is nothing short of cold, ruthless, and sharp, with most songs on the playlist being alternative/indie. The most prominent singers/songwriters/bands on the playlist are Miya Folick, Screaming Females, and Mitski. Themes explored in the songs are power and control, emotional out-pouring, and starkness. 3 songs that truly fit T’Pring’s personality in the best way songs could, are:
Bite The Hand by Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus
End of My Bloodline by Screaming Females
Trouble Adjusting by Miya Folick
Applying Psychology 💉 (Christine Chapel)
This playlist has a focus on soft, calming, and soothing music with the major genres being piano and ambience songs; these are the types of songs you’d hear being played in sickbay when no one else is there. Moira Kent, Rand Aldo, and Baths are some of the reoccurring artists on the playlist. There are no themes explored in the songs given that most songs don’t have any lyrics. 3 notable songs are:
Aminals by Baths
Unseen Forces by Justin Walter
Everyday Peace by Moira Kent
The Tsar of All the Russias 🇷🇺 (Pavel Chekov)
Chekov’s playlist is less about consistant vibes and more about consistant themes, that theme being Russia, of course. All of the songs on the playlist relate to that core theme, and tend to be pop music. Singers/songwriters/bands of note from the playlist are Prince, The Beastles, and The Toasters. The themes are usually the cold war, russian history, and visiting Moscow. 3 of my favorite songs from the playlist are:
Night Train to Moscow by The Toasters
Rasputin by Boney M.
Moskau by Dschinghis Khan
Scotty, You Have the Con🍺 (Montgomery “Scotty” Scott)
Like Chekov’s playlist, Scotty’s is about one thing in particular, though admittedly it’s more like it’s own genre of music: Irish & Scottish drinking songs, which keep it entertaining with their high energy. Some singers/songwriters/bands included are Flogging Molly, The Dubliners, and Sallymacs. Themes of the songs vary, but there will always be a good narrative to follow. Here’s 3 songs that effectively show off the vibes of the playlist:
Devil’s Dance Floor by Flogging Molly
Beer, Beer, Beer by The Clancy Brothers
The Drunken Scotsman by Sallymacs
