#JackedKirby - Collaging With The King!!! One of the coolest parts of the 1960s Marvel series that Jack and Stan worked on has to be the introduction of the annual... an extra doubles sized issue put out every year to maximize sales and tell additional stories (while also reprinting older ones to increase the page count!). Some of the best stories/characters were introduced in these annuals... and one of the best is Fantastic Four #Annual6 !!! Published in November of 1968, the story of this annual deals with the complications Sue Richards has during childbirth. Reed, Johnny and Ben must travel to the Negative Zone in order to retrieve something to aid in the birth... but they accidentally take that item from Annihilus, the warlord like ruler of the Negative Zone!!! While the book is loaded with important first appearances and the eventual birth of Franklin Richards, one of the coolest things included in the book are the fantastic collages that Jack worked into the book (Pic 1). Including both practical pencil art and photographic imagery, these collages are amazing considering the limited printing technology that existed in 1968. But check out the awesome pencil art WITHOUT the photographic background (pic 2). It really makes you appreciate the craftsmanship of the finished double page spread that was in the final book.... and it’s even more apparent when you see the close ups of each page in pics 3/4 of this post! Once again, Jack was way ahead of his time... the once and true King! #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #FF #FantasticFour #Annihilus #NegativeZone #Annuals #MarvelAnnuals #60sComics #ComicsOfThe60s #Comic #Comics #ComicBooks #ComicBook #KirbyCollages #Collages #FranklinRichards #IGComics #ComicsOfIG https://www.instagram.com/p/CDL9TQrhVww/?igshid=1p7nptoajzszn

#JackedKirby - Collages By The King... 👑👑👑 While Jack was busy putting in major time at his drawing board creating 50+ years worth of comic goodness, he rarely had time to do much in the ways of fun. In fact, most of his “fun” activities usually involved art in some way as well... One of his passions that he often played around with collages. He incorporated them into some Fantastic Four and Thor books. But he began developing more and more collages on his personal time, often not for publication at all. 💥💥💥 When Jack jumped to DC in the early 70s one of the promises made to him was that he would be allowed to experiment with some “periodical” style magazines as well as comics. Those two periodical projects were In The Days of The Mob & Spirit World. 💥💥💥 Jack was allowed to do whatever he wanted in these experimental projects... so of course Jack decided to add some of his collage work to the books! 💥💥💥 These three collages come from Spirit World #Issue1 from September of 1971. They are wildly creative and show the promise of these types of experimental periodicals... unfortunately, DC corporate DIDN’T see it that way. Only one issue of both Spirit World and In The Days of The Mob ever we’re published. That sure is a shame! Cause these are SWEET!! Would love to have seen more!!! 💥💥💥 #KingKirby #Kirby #JackKirby #SpiritWorld #InTheDaysOfTheMob #70sComics #ComicsOfThe70s #DC #Collages #KirbyCollages #Comic #Comics #ComicBook #ComicBooks #IGComics #ComicsOfIG https://www.instagram.com/p/B_oEYOwBxoO/?igshid=8ecoutkey1q2

#JackedKirby - Collaging With The King... 💥💥💥 Kirby was doing some wild things in the pages of Marvel Comics during his epic creation era of 1959-72, but none were more experimental and cooler than his application of collages to the pages of his comics!!! He started the practice in the Fantastic Four, and continued to implement them into many of his works that followed. One of those issues was The Mighty Thor #Issue161 (published in February of 1969). 💥💥💥 In this awesome collage we see Thor and The Recorder thrust into the dark recesses of outer space after their ship is destroyed by a battle between Ego the Living Planet And Galactus!!! This portion of space is known as the “Black Galaxy” and Jack utilizes some stylized black and white space scapes as the background to his traditional comic images of Thor, The Recorder And a space ship belonging to the alien Wanderers in the foregrounds (all in color!)... 💥💥💥 You gotta love the weightlessness that Thor displays (pic 4) with his long blond locks of hair floating aimlessly and his arms sprawled out... and I also love that the trusty Mjolinir is tucked securely into his belt loop!!! 💥💥💥 A beauty of a collage just tossed in by the King... it’s times like these when I feel he was showing off his skills just a bit!!! 💥💥💥 #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #TheMightyThor #Thor #Galactus #Ego #Asgard #OuterSpace #KirbySpace #CosmicKirby #KirbyCollages #ComicBookCollages #ComicCollages #Comic #Comics #ComicBook #ComicBooks #60sComics #ComicsOfThe60s #IGcomics #ComicsOfIG https://www.instagram.com/p/BximEz5B0pn/?igshid=162j18211pm65
