How long could you continue like this?

It was too much - the intrusive thoughts telling you to run into the road and get hit, to climb to the school roof and jump off just because you can. Not that these thoughts haven’t always lingered within your head, but it’s only gotten worse since Akaashi broke the news to you.

“I think… I have feelings for Bokuto-san.”

Was it selfish to be pissed off at him for his own feelings? You wanted so badly to hate Bokuto for this, but doing so would only serve to make you feel even more shitty than you already did. Bokuto was unequivocally the nicest and most upbeat person you’d ever met, always going the extra mile for his friends - his best friend being no exception.

Right, you’re not Akaashi’s best friend, Bokuto is.

You were second in line, always. When Bokuto wasn’t around, it was only then Akaashi would decide to grace you with his presence. Was he a bad friend for doing this to you? Were you a bad friend for expecting more?

You shook your head as the train taking you to school arrived and tried to ignore the voice in the back of your head telling you to jump onto the tracks.

Your classes blurred together as always, with the only notable encounters being a few of your teachers pulling you aside, concerned for your suddenly slipping grades. As much as you’d like to pretend that you cared about the outcome of your future, things right now were just too much for you.

Shaking your head, you decided to push those thoughts to the back of your brain for another time. Right now, you were going to go to lunch, sit with Akaashi and his friends, and pretend like there was something between you two - same as always.

Except it wasn’t.

The first thing you noticed upon entering the cafeteria is that Bokuto and Akaashi were sitting extremely close to each other, way closer than normal. The pit in your stomach led you to believe the worst, but surely…? 

Akaashi caught sight of you and waved you over, an uncharastically large smile on his face. He’s never smiled like that towards you. Walking over with a false smile plastered on your face, you pretended like everything was going to be fine. “What’s got you so chipper?”

Bokuto turned his attention to you upon hearing your voice and shot up, bouncing on his feet like an excited child. “Hey, hey, hey! Didja hear?”

Please don’t.

“Me and Akaashi are dating!”

... 

Oh.

... 

Aha… aha….hahaha.

You didn’t even hear Akaashi call your name over and over, your stability finally snapping. Vivid images of you stabbing yourself, overdosing on pills, drowning, on repeat in your head like the most fucked up orchestra known to mankind. You could barely make out Konoha’s face, the only person you had told about your deep love for Akaashi. Using the slightest grip on reality you had left, you mustered out a barely cohesive, “I.. gotta. I, I have to…” as you felt your heart race far beyond what could be considered healthy. Akaashi reached towards you in what felt like slow motion, and you didn’t even think before slapping his hand away and booking it out the cafeteria door.

The voices in your head were screaming at you now. You didn’t even know where you were going, just hearing the mantra of “die, die, die!” over and over. You pushed open whatever door was in front of you and looked up, realizing where you had arrived. 

The school rooftop. 

The most disturbing sense of peace washed over you, as you now realized what you wanted to do. Was it dumb? To kill yourself over the person you loved? To those who were normal - most likely, but it was easy to figure out you weren’t quite as normal as you lead those around you to believe. You could only imagine how many undiagnosed things were swimming around in your brain right now, but it quickly lost meaning in your train of thoughts. 

Your body moving on it’s own, you slowly walked towards the ledge of the rooftop, and whispered a final prayer to whoever may be listening. 

“I hope Akaashi is happy.” 

As your body fell and you heard the screams of the Fukurodani students, you couldn’t help but wonder if he was there to see you.
