10 people i'd like to get to know better
tagged by: @allbornscreaming @rearviewghost & @ladyfauxhawk (thank you! 🌹)
last song: nabokov - fontaines d.c.
favorite color: purple 💜
last book: i'm going to be honest, my nightly routine consists of reading milex fanfic and this one is currently ripping me to shreds. i'm forever trying to work my way through 'all about love' by bell hooks but it's a journey!
last movie: i truly can't remember the last time i watched a movie... i think it was kingsmen?
last tv show: i'm rotating between gilmore girls, derry girls and abbott elementary.
sweet/spicy/savory: definitely sweet. if i don't get a sweet treat every day, i'll perish. i do like a sweet/spicy combo though like sweet thai chili wings or chili chocolate.
relationship status: single. i'm always bouncing between 'i love my peace and independence' and 'wow, i would love for someone to kiss my neck!'
last thing googled: fontaines d.c. merch. i really want a t-shirt but their merch for 'romance' is giving monster energy drink vibes and it's not my style so i ordered one off redbubble instead 😶
current obsession: fontaines d.c. (shocker, i know). they really are occupying lot of my brain space rn. but i love their music and watching interviews and hearing about grian's writing/creative process. ALSO, i saw this post a couple days ago and it had me think about all the times alex was described by interviewers (be it his appearance or mannerisms or the way he responds to questions). so i’ve tasked myself with creating a master post about that and i figured, while i was combing through interviews, i would create a masterlist of every arctic monkey/tlsp interview cause i like to neglect my other priorities to do this instead. i also feel like this probably exists somewhere?? but i'd like to have my own resource.
looking forward to: i'm going to ireland with my sister in a couple weeks. it’s the first time we’re travelling internationally together and while we get along very well, i fear we may want to kill each other by the end of it. i also have a tattoo appointment scheduled for december and i’m looking forward to adding to my leg!
tagging: @dancingshoess @glorious-blackout @aacheinthejaw @jetskisonyourmoat and anyone who wants to participate (no pressure though!)

Song of the Day - September 25th is officially National One Hit Wonder Day - and each year this begs the eternal question of what is the “greatest” one hit wonder… I never really waver from my choice - “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” is, for me, the greatest ever one hit wonder. Written by Paul Leka, Gary DeCarlo and Dale Frashuer, it was delivered by the group called Steam, or Steem, in 1969. The songwriting trio had been a doo-wop group in Connecticut, but disbanded and moved to New York City to be producers for Fontana Records. The executives liked their singing and their repertoire so much, they indulged them to record everything they had. They resurrected this song “Kiss Him Goodbye” from their old doo-wop stuff, and recorded this single, with DiCarlo on lead vocal, in less than an hour. They felt it needed to be longer, and so they wrote more as they recorded - adding in the Na Na’s and Hey,Hey’s, and adding an old previously recorded drum track from another session. I think of this recording session as the stars aligning somehow especially specially. Sometimes it is the unsuspected bit of seeming nothing-special-ness that becomes magically something very very special. The single hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart the first week of December 1969, riding out the 60’s on that jammed chart. And at the point, the single has reached multi-platinum status, having sold nearly 7 million copies. It has been used in countless movies, and TV shows, commercials, and is played at sporting events, as what they call a “taunt chant” … which, in the same spirit, has been sung on the floor of Congress, at least twice famously, to illustrate that those voting on a certain bill would soon lose their seats for their votes. At least for me, this song never ages, and never doesn’t stop me in my tracks, to sing along and just shake me out of any blue spot…” Now... just for fun, whats your favorite One Hit Wonder? ... see my list below of some worthy nominees...

Hi! Just a random question. Do you also like movies and tv-series and if so, what are you into/can you recommend?
Thank you so much for your stories and snippets. I love every single one! X
Some of my personal favourite TV shows:
NBC Hannibal
Interview With The Vampire
Doctor Who
Inside Number 9
The Vampire Diaries/The Originals
The Bold Type
The Haunting of Bly Manor
The Haunting of Hill House
Midnight Mass
Black Mirror
Bridgerton
For casual watching/sitcoms, my favourites are Modern Family, Scrubs, The Good Place, One Day At A Time.
I am currently making my slow way through The Last of Us.
(There are also many, many others I have watched and enjoyed over the years)
Movies are hard! I go to the cinema a lot so most of what I see are new releases. I enjoy a lot, less sticks in my head. Some I think are amazing (e.g. Everything Everywhere All At Once, but I can't watch them again any time soon). Others are probably on everyone's 'great movies' recommendation lists already, so I'll try and avoid just re-listing those.
Crimson Peak
Stardust
Legally Blonde
Little Women (Greta Gerwig version)
Pride
Cruel Intentions
Howl's Moving Castle
Pride, Prejudice and Zombies
Kill Your Darlings
Gone Girl
X-Men First Class
Kingsmen
Memento
Knives Out
The Menu
Do Revenge
About Time
Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Emun Elliott the Scottish theatre, film and television actor.
Born in Edinburgh n 28th November 1983 as Emun Mohammadi, and brought up in Portobello, and Duddingston, his father is of Persian descent. Emun was educated at George Heriot’s School before going on to Aberdeen University and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Elliots first break was appearing in an episode of Monarch of the Glen in 2005, we then saw him in the Scottish Cop sitcom, Feel the Force.
In 2009 Elliott starred in a TV mini-series called “Paradox” in which the lab he works at as a physicist is named ‘Prometheus’ and he has a “chance’ to change the future because he has insight to the future. In Elliott’s real future. Three years later, he would star in Ridley Scott’s film named 'Prometheus’ as a character named Chance, Mark Bonnar also starred in the series.
One off appearances in Inspector George Gently and Vera were followed up with Game of Thrones, where he played the character Marillion in four episodes. He was then in the Glasgow Drama series, Lip Service on BBC Three and another sitcom Threesome. His biggest role to date was arguably in the BBC period drama, The Paradise, where he played John Moray, the shop’s owner. We saw him in the 2017 series Trust Me, which was set in his home town Edinburgh and starred Jodie Whittaker. Elliot also cropped up in the latest Kingsmen movie last year.
Emun appeared in the dark comedy drama Guilt an excellent series, where he again teamed up with Mark Bonnar. Fresh Meat and Gary: Tank Commander star Greg McHugh, the lovely Phyllis Logan, featured in the second series, the third and final season was on our screens last year.
If you're looking for a great brif gangster type series look up Sexy Beast a prequal to the 2000 black comedy crime film, which starred the excellent duo Ben Kingsley and Ray Winstone, it is definitely worth a watch, Emun plays the role of Don Logan. It got mediochre reviews, but I liked it.
As reported over the past two years Walking to Paris is still in post production, no dare for it's release as yet, Emun also has the BBC drama The Gold returning for a second series on the BBC. The series covers the 1983 Brink's-Mat robbery. A four-part drama The Guest is also in production, Described as an addictive, fast-paced story that centres on the toxic and beguiling relationship between a successful business owner shooting started last month in and around Cardiff.
Brownie points if you know where the first photo of Emun was taken.

Keith Richards pictured with a ‘59 Les Paul that he sold to Mick Taylor when Taylor was playing with John Mayall. The guitar rejoined the Stones with Taylor in 1969.
According to information provided by high-end guitar brokerage Richard Henry, the “Keith Burst” is a ’59 Les Paul that first arrived at Farmers Music Store in Luton, England, in ’61, and was played for a time by John Bowen of Mike Dean & The Kingsmen. Bowen had a Bigsby added to the guitar at Selmer’s Music in London, before trading it in there in late ’62. A young Keith Richards, who purchased the Les Paul with Bigsby, occasionally visited a regular haunt of musicians on the booming London scene of the day, Selmer’s. (It’s worth noting that both Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac and Jeff Beck of The Yardbirds also acquired used ’59 Les Pauls at Selmer’s, and several other acquisitions logged in the history of rock also took place in this popular west-end shop.)
Throughout the early days of the Stones, the Les Paul was one of Richards’s most prominent guitars. The Best-known photos of the era show him playing it on a Ready Steady Go! TV-show performance in Britain in ’64, and he also played it on a tour of the US that same year, when it popped up during the Stones’s performance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
Early Rolling Stones hits purportedly recorded with the Les Paul include “Satisfaction,” “Get Off My Cloud,” “Let’s Spend the Night Together,” and “Little Red Rooster.” As seen in color photos from the time, just five years after it left the factory it was already faded to a deep amber burst with a little iced-tea shading around the body edges. While still in Richards’s possession, the Bigsby ’Burst was also purportedly loaned to Jimmy Page for some studio sessions, and was then loaned to Eric Clapton for use with Cream at the ’66 Windsor Jazz & Blues Festival. - Gibson

Review of "Richard III" directed by Jeffrey Combs, 2005
Tumblr media
Moran, R. (2005, July 7). 'Richard III' stands the test of time change. Ventura County Star.
[BEGIN TRANSCRIPT]
'Richard III' stands the test of time change
Kingsmen Shakespeare drama transported to Victorian England By Rita Moran Arts writer
Director Jeffrey Combs has transplanted Shakespeare's "Richard III" to late 19th- century London, placing the malevolent manipulator in an era when he could have made headlines as Richard the Ripper or become the focus of one of Sherlock Holmes' famous cases.
Richard, determined to slash aside much more legitimate rivals for the throne while keeping an aesthetic distance from the action, might have felt very much at home in the shadowy recesses of Victorian England. It's an amusing approach that functions reasonably well, despite a few roadblocks. Moving the kingdom forward three centuries brings Richard and his assorted rivals, relatives and subordinates into a time when crime was rampant, but it seems unlikely that so many royal figures, or wannabes, could be carted off for beheadings with little murmur from the citizenry. Shakespeare's Richard reigned in a bloody period that battled. over royal secession, while Victoria's England was relatively placid. On the streets of London, though, troubles simmered and plots thrived.
New look Bringing Richard to the 19th century also involves costume updates. The women still look fetching in attire of the period, and men look as pompous, or evil, in tails and top hats as they might have in tights and doublets. But commanders and troops in neat double-breasted uniforms suggest the constabulary almost as much as topple each obstacle to the imperial forces. Still, the essence of the play perseveres through any distracting time elements. What the play needs is a convincing. Richard, and Lane Davies presents him in all his diabolic obsessions. Richard, always portrayed as somewhat deformed with a soul to match, is a villain who constantly explains himself, from his first famous words, "Now is the winter of our discontent," to his death. He can twist any circumstance to his cause and any person to his will through a combination of devious reasoning and subtle but convincing threats. Davies, a longtime Kingsmen Shakespeare Company stalwart, has played his share of villains in a busy career on stage and TV, but Richard plumbs the depths of villainy. The actor meets the challenge not only in exuding ill-will, but also in the glee he takes as his machinations topple each obstacle to the throne. The stage on California Lutheran University's grounds is set up with a front-and-center Allan Hunt, who is directing boxed light that casts a ghastly glow from floor level at Richard for each of his intimate plot concoctions or rationalizations. Director Combs and Davies have wisely chosen to minimize Richard's physical distortion while maximizing his psychological ones. Some historians believe the former, at least, were exaggerated in early chronicles by authors favoring the line of succession Richard disrupted.
Credible cast The rest of the large cast is filled with actors who bring credibility to their roles as royals and rebels. Mark Silver is the faithful Buckingham who curries Richard's favor until he's flicked off like a bothersome fly. Allan Hunt who is directing the annual festival's second show, "Merry Wives of Windsor," is Richard's brother, Clarence, as devoid of guile as Richard is full of it. Seventh- grader Joe Walker, in his first Kingsmen role, is a determined Young Prince Edward, who delivers his lines with confidence and clarity. Richard Winterstein as the failing King Edward IV is always a presence to be reckoned with. And Donal Whelan is amusing as the Second Murderer and noble as Richmond, Richard's final obstacle. Whelan's voice is one that projects well in the outdoor setting, even out- maneuvering the frogs, but the actor could enhance his performance by giving more nuance to the meaning of Richmond's high-flying words. The women, with significant roles as foils to Richard's willful ways, include Jane Longenecker as Lady Anne, his first prey; Anne Lockhart as the vengeful Queen Margaret; and Julia Duffy as the feisty Queen Elizabeth. Anyone not totally familiar with English history is likely to be lost as the various royals and courtiers weave in and out of the action. But by hanging onto the confidences uttered by Richard, plot essentials will be clear enough. Other details are delivered by the cast, sometimes in competition with the hearty frogs. Combs employs a contemporary method in presenting the ghosts that plague the beleaguered Richard, projecting their anguished faces on a screen at the back of the stage. It's a little shaky in operation, but not a bad idea. Another effect, a shadowy figure in an upper window whose actions evoke the dispatching of Richard's various victims, worked less well on opening night. Dramatic swelling of film- scope music accompanies major moments in the play, giving a melodramatic tinge to the larger-than-life tale. "Richard" continues this weekend, then alternates with "The Merry Wives of Windsor" through Aug. 7. E-mail Rita Moran at [email protected].

What we know about Jackdaw so far
(EDIT Jan 21, 2023: This piece has been updated to include a little bit of new information as Jenna Coleman made her first media confirmation of the new movie in her recent Telegraph interview)
So, as Jenna Coleman begins what will hopefully be a successful run in the play Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons (stream please, National Theatre Live) my thoughts turn to a rather mysterious project she was involved in just before Christmas - somehow as she was in the midst of rehearsals for the play. Jackdaw - as the project has been referred, though this may not be the final title - has had only scant regional media coverage and I admit that if not for that scant coverage I would be starting to wonder if this project was real or some sort of nethoax like a certain alleged lost film Tumblr was on about for a while in the fall.
Since there have been numerous posts on the topic here in recent weeks (mostly by @oswincoleman who has done an amazing job keeping track), I thought I’d try and distil what major information is known (or not known) about this film so far. Spoiler break for length.
1. As I said, it is not known if Jackdaw is the official name, or a working title, or some sort of cover title like “Blue Harvest” disguised the filming of Return of the Jedi; but that would have to mean “Jackdaw” is connected to some major enterprise, which it doesn’t appear to be. Although I saw someone ask if maybe this was connected to Sandman coming a few months after its renewal by Netflix (and Netflix allegedly being connected to Jackdaw, not to mention a comics-accurate hair-colour change by Jenna), there’s no sign of any connection to Sandman or any other franchise (Mason Alexander Park of Sandman said the other day they don’t expect to resume filming till the summer); and despite the director having worked on Doctor Who before, there’s been nothing to suggest it’s related in anyway to that either (and they’d be talking Disney+ or BBC not Netflix if it was).
2. As of mid-January, all we have heard about it is from social media posts and a few “what are they filming?”-style stories on local/regional news sites, plus a casting call for extras that was posted in December. Recent major media coverage of Jenna - including about her hair colour change - have made no reference to the project.
3. Jenna herself has only made reference to this production by way of a couple of enigmatic Instagram Stories posts, one showing a motorcycle, another showing camera equipment. According to social media, she filmed her role over the course of about a week or so in mid-December. Despite this, people purporting to be insiders on the production have claimed she has a major role in it. Speculation is she might go back to film more after the play wraps. But social media reports filming on Jackdaw wrapped in mid-January. Filming apparently took place in the north of England, including Hartlepool.
3.5. Interestingly, Jenna has made no reference to the film in recent interviews, including the one with Graham Norton who surely must have been aware of the social media reports if nothing else; even when she was under her NDA for Sandman back in 2021 she was at least still able to acknowledge she was filming “something” recently even if she couldn’t say what. Jackdaw does not seem to something on the scale of a Marvel movie, so I can’t see her not being allowed to at least acknowledge the film - unless maybe the producers of the Lemons play asked her not to, perhaps so as not to take away from the play. To be fair, if you’re promoting a specific event it wouldn’t do to spend the limited time available talking about Jackdaw, Wilderness, Sandman S2, Klokkenluider, War Rooms... right?
5. Who is involved in Jackdaw? Other than Jenna, it appears the lead actor is one Thomas Turgoose, known for the This is England films and TV series in the UK (an unknown to me; he was in one of the Kingsmen films too; I see Jenna also began following him on Instagram at some point). A casting call for a scene suggested Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Jenna’s co-star in the upcoming Wilderness, is also in it but I haven’t seen much more on that. And Jenna reportedly has a stunt double. Personnel from The Sandman are also involved such as the cinematographer as well as the director is reportedly Jamie Childs, Jenna’s current boyfriend who directed her main episode of SM. If reports are accurate it makes this an interesting hybrid of her most recent TV projects.
6. Around the time of filming, as we know, Jenna dyed her hair a bright blonde, a look she debuted at an event she found time to attend just before the holidays. It is not yet known if she did it for the film, for the play (as she’s kept it and yellowish hair for a play called Lemons, etc., makes sense), or both. Or maybe she just decided to go blonde. The fact she’s still dark-haired on the posters for the play suggests it was a decision made after the initial publicity photo shoots for the play were done.
6.5 Surprisingly, Jenna didn’t make an Instagram post about changing her hair colour. Indeed, except for a couple of play-related posts and one set of pics taken while preparing for a pre-blonde event, she was all but radio silent on Instagram during December (she didn’t do a year in review for Instagram Stories either, nor did she post anything related to the event she attended where she unveiled the new hairdo). Which does make sense if she was shooting a movie, commuting, preparing for the play, etc.
7. There’s apparently a rave sequence in the film with police (including apparently riot cops, at least based on the casting call), for which some photos from the set have emerged. Jenna, as noted, apparently has a stunt double possibly related to motorcycle riding?
8. Social media have said this is a film being made for Netflix, but Netflix has yet to make any announcement regarding such a production. Obviously, no hints of a release date have come out (and remembering the long wait for a release on Klokkenluider, scenes for which Jenna filmed 2 years ago, it may be a while). According to the social media reports, this is a feature-length film, not a short, intended for cinemas.
I’m sure I missed a few (and likely made some mistakes too) but these are the major bullet points as I understand them. Despite claims of Jenna having a major role in the show, I’m a little skeptical given how little time she appears to have spent filming (and the fact she squeezed this in while in the midst of rehearsals for the play). The fact we have a pretty clear indication of when she went blonde (between her event in early December with dark hair, followed a couple weeks later by her attending an event with blonde hair), I don’t think it’s a case of her having done more filming earlier that we don’t know about (unless she changes hair colour during the film ).
My gut is telling me it’ll be the same as Klokkenluider, for which Jenna indeed plays a major role but according to reviews does not actually appear throughout the film. In Jackdaw, Jenna could be playing a major role - but one that only involves her in a few scenes. Time will tell. And until or unless someone - production company, one of the actors, Netflix - actually releases some sort of info, we’re stuck for now with speculation, guesswork and Instagram posts.
Update: January 21, 2023: Jenna Coleman was the subject of a major interview with the Daily Telegraph magazine. The article is behind a paywall, but it does confirm that Jenna did film a movie called Jackdaw, dyed her hair for the film, and apparently plays a “pixie punk biker” in the movie. The plot thickens!

64. The Jolly Green Giant by The Kingsmen debuted Jan 65 and peaked at number four, scoring 888 points.
The music for the song is from The Olympics' Big Boy Pete (peaking at 50 in 1960), and the lyrics are based on a popular tv commercial for Green Giant frozen vegetables.
While the song is now forgotten, it's hit status proves The Kingsmen were not a one hit wonder with Louie Louie. They also made the top 20 with a remake of Motown's first top 40 hit, Money by Barrett Strong, charting higher than the original.

Okay but this actually looks like a fun time tho. I was bracing for some atrocious literal take on the game, like a Battleship or a Rampage. And judging by most of the responses I've seen, that's definitely the gut reaction from most people.
"Unwitting American Man's Hyperfixation Sends Him to Soviet Russia, Espionage Hijinks Ensue" sounds completely on-brand for Kingsmen folks -- played straight yet extremely silly, with the thinnest veneer of real-world historical events and cute video game trivia to use as a jumping-off point into total chaos.
They really saw the third act of Queen's Gambit and said "how can we skip straight to that?" and honestly? Sure.
But also, there is a 0% chance this convinces me to get Apple TV, so I guess it doesn't matter does it lol
Tumblr media
youre actually fucking with me
