The lore surrounding of the King’s Chapel fascinates me. Yet because of it’s location in the literal epicenter of downtown, it’s nearly impossible to photograph the old #granite anachronism unobstructed. Back in December I got lucky; I was in the right place at the right, precise moment. Traffic coincidentally eased up a moment; European tourists dispersed on cue. This was it; this was the moment I seized. I steadied my breath and clicked. One, two, three . . . seven shutter releases, just in case. Because you really almost never get that opportunity for an unobstructed view from across the street. That lucky photo is the second of these two images. But recently, with the city of #Boston at such low capacity, I got the same chance with a lot less dramatic circumstance. I simply rolled up to the corner of School Street, hopped off the bicycle, and clicked. Done deal. Easy peasy. That’s the first photo. Thanks, #covid19! The city is creeping back to business slowly, and the opportunities to capture the storybook of the built landscape uninterrupted are becoming fewer and fewer. Which is a good thing, really; it suggests betterment.

But I can’t lie about how special it is to capture these moments without people obtusely blundering into the frame. Often it is quite intentional; a silent gesture of a misguided and warped demonstration of the libertarianism of space; that my right to not feel any obligation to pause generously is equal to your right to have patience rewarded with an uninterrupted photo. It really is an analogy for the whole #coronavirus thing. Which is no surprise. This building has been a living analogy to many moments in #USHistory and certainly #BostonHistory. King's Chapel Burying Ground is a historic cemetery on Tremont Street, near its intersection with School Street, in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the oldest cemetery in the city and is a site on the Freedom Trail. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Despite its name, the cemetery pre-dates the adjacent King's Chapel; it is not affiliated to that or any other church.[1

🇫🇷 ⛪ ‘The King's Chapel at Dreux. - Chapelle du roi, à Dreux. - Die Königs - Kapelle, zu Dreux.' in France, remains the customary burial ground for the House of Orleans in France, and boasts a rich history. This chapel lays here because in 1775 King Louis XVI of France gifted his cousin, Louis Jean Marie de Bourbon, Duke of Penthièvre, the county of Dreux in France. Eight years later, the Duke sold the King his castle in Rambouillet, after which the Duke had his family's remains brought to a crypt in the small chapel of Collégiale Saint-Étienne de Dreux on his new land. In 1793 amidst the French Revolution, this chapel was destroyed and the bodies of from the crypt were thrown into a mass grave in the Chanoines cemetery of the chapel. In 1816, the Duke's Daughter, the Duchess of Orleans, had a new chapel built on the site of the mass grave; after which, her son, King Louis Philip I of France renamed the chapel the the Royal Chapel of Dreux, in 1820, after substantial upgrades to the building. This lovely print was drawn by Thomas Allom and engraved on steel by S. Sands. It was included in “France Illustrated, Exhibiting its Landscape Scenery, Antiquities, Military and Ecclesiastical Architecture, & c. Drawings by Thomas Allom, Esq. Descriptions by The Rev. G. N. Wright, M. A. Vol. II.”, by Reverend George Newenham Wright in 1845. It was published by Fisher, Son, & Co., out of: The Caxton Press, Angel Street, St. Martin's-Le-Grand, London and H. Mandeveille, Rue Neuve Vivienne, Paris.
