shamelessly knee-deep in your fantasy / to stay up late collecting battle scars / it's hard on the body, hard on the heart / and I can't fight the rage, the pleasure and the pain / you feel the need to please in every way / itâs a game and it's an art / thatâs hard on the body, hard on the heart

Ahead of the event, anti-Israel protest groups issued a call to rally next to the campus on Oriental Boulevard, circulating a graphic that said, âStudents and workers say no to rehabilitating the image of war criminals.â
Kingsboroughâs Hillel asked the administration for upgraded security due to the protest. Instead, the administration opted to cancel the event hours before it was supposed to start, the collegeâs Hillel told the New York Jewish Week.
A Kingsborough spokesperson confirmed the event had been canceled due to protests âout of an abundance of caution to ensure safety and appropriate access to campus for our students, faculty, and staff.â
A number of faculty asked the administration to reverse the decision to no avail, Hillel said. Jeff Lax, a Kingsborough business professor and outspoken advocate for Zionist students, said he requested a meeting and waited outside the office of University President Suri Duitch for 20 minutes while she was inside, but said she did not come out to speak with him.
The pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel protest still took place, drawing around 30 people who waved Palestinian flags and, according to a video by Lax, chanted, âResistance is justified when people are occupied.â
The protesters declared âvictoryâ after the event.

âThe shameful event allowing a former high-ranking IOF soldier on campus, hosted by Kingsborough Community College and Hillel, has been SHUT DOWN!â a student pro-Palestinian group posted on social media, using a derisive abbreviation for Israelâs military that stands for Israel Occupation Force. âPower to CUNY students and workers! Free Palestine!â
The next day, on Tuesday, Kingsborough Hillel was scheduled to hold an Israeli Independence Day event on an outdoor terrace on campus, but the college ordered organizers to move the event indoors. A photo from the scene showed nine security guards stationed outside the door.
Meanwhile, at Baruch, the campus Hillel said on Instagram last week that the college had ordered the clubâs Yom Haâatzmaut, or Independence Day, event on May 2 âcanceledâ due to security concerns.
Baruch College told the New York Jewish Week that Hillel had been offered other locations for the event.
âThe safety of our students remains our top priority,â the college said in a statement. âRegarding the Yom Haâatzmaut celebration, Hillel was offered two alternative spaces on campus. They declined the opportunity to hold the event in these alternative locations, choosing to cancel instead.â
Baruch Hillel did not respond to a request for comment, but posted on Instagram that the school is âsending a strong message to Jewish students that they cannot adequately protect Jewish students, while the protestors spew hateful and intimidating language in our public spaces without any repercussions.â
The post added, âBaruch College is silencing the voice of the Jewish students and their ability to celebrate their Jewish identity proudly and openly.â
In the same Instagram post, the Hillel also uploaded video showing protesters chanting, âBaruch Hillel you canât hide, we charge you with genocide.â

Hello Inspiration for Lady Bertram from Mansfield Park:
Much as Wollstonecraft disliked Carolineâs use of rouge and her affected âinfantine lispâ, she was especially distressed to see her lavishing affection upon her six lapdogs while apparently neglecting her childrenâs moral and emotional welfare. Lisping and lapdogs would feature in Wollstonecraftâs disapproving anecdotes about an unnamed lady of her personal acquaintance in Chapter 11 of A vindication of the rights of woman. Source
(Mary worked for Lady (Caroline) Kingsborough as a governess)
To the education of her daughters Lady Bertram paid not the smallest attention. She had not time for such cares. She was a woman who spent her days in sitting, nicely dressed, on a sofa, doing some long piece of needlework, of little use and no beauty, thinking more of her pug than her children, but very indulgent to the latter when it did not put herself to inconvenience, guided in everything important by Sir Thomas, and in smaller concerns by her sister. Had she possessed greater leisure for the service of her girls, she would probably have supposed it unnecessary, for they were under the care of a governess, with proper masters, and could want nothing more.

Two Jewish professors under investigation for ârace and gender discriminationâ have not been given copies of an official complaint against them because the college claims that they doxxed private information, according to emails obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Professors Jeffrey Lax and Michael Goldstein have been sounding the alarm about antisemitism at Kingsborough Community College (KCC), which is part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system, for the last several years, most recently by voicing concern when the school appointed anti-Zionist CUNY official Lili Shi to hire an antisemitism diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) officer, according to the Washington Free Beacon. Lax and Goldstein told the DCNF that they were offhandedly informed by the college that they were under investigation for âbullyingâ and exploiting her âvulnerability as an immigrant,â but have never been given a copy of the charges against them because the college claims they doxxed Shiâs address.Â
David Holley, a partner at the global advisory firm Stoneturn and KCCâs investigator into Shiâs complaint, refused to give Lax or Goldstein a copy of the complaint, accusing them of doxxing Shiâs address in an article by the Free Beacon and would only say that Shi had experienced âtargeted cyber bullying,â âa case of race and gender discriminationâ and that they had exploited her âvulnerability as an immigrant.â

Did You Hear? CUNY Branches Cancel Hillel Yom Ha'atzmaut Events
Two branches of the City University of New York system -- Kingsborough and Baruch -- have apparently canceled Israeli Independence Day events sponsored by local Hillel chapters, citing security risks. In the case of Baruch, administrators reportedly offered alternative venues to the Hillel chapter (which were declined), at Kingsborough, by contrast, the administration reportedly refused to make any arrangements to enable the event to go forward. CUNY is a public university, so this raises the usual First Amendment problems. While every case is different, there are some clear overlaps between this case (in particular, the citation to "security" concerns) and the cancellation of pro-Palestinian speakers and events justified on similar logic (for example, at USC). This, of course, represents a golden opportunity for people to lob dueling hypocrisy charges at one another ("You were aghast when this happened at USC, but I don't hear you complaining now!" "Yeah, well you were apologizing for this when it happened at USC, but you're aghast now!"). I'm sure that will be a grand old time for everyone. I do want to make one note on the relative coverage and penetration of this story compared to other free speech debacles related to Israel and Palestine on campus. I haven't seen this story covered outside of the Jewish press. That doesn't mean it won't be later, and I'm not generally a fan of the "...but you'll never see this reported in the mainstream media!" genre of commentary. In part, that's because I think there's massive selection bias in what we claim is over- or under-covered; in part, it's because I think virtually everyone massively overestimates how many stories break through to mass public consciousness at all. In reality, I think different stories gain traction in different media domains, such that a story which might tear through one sort of social or ideological circle might make barely a ripple in another. That said, in many of the circles I reside in, there is essentially no knowledge that there are any cases of academic censorship of "pro-Israel" voices on campus at all. To be clear, I'm not saying that there are not numerous cases of academic freedom violations targeting pro-Palestinian speakers -- there are a slew of them. But the notion that this is a Palestine exception to academic freedom, rather than something which unfortunately happens in a host of other cases and contexts (including, in the right-slash-wrong environments, to pro-Israel speakers), speaks less to the reality of academic freedom and more to an epistemology of which cases get attention and which don't. There are many academics for whom the Steven Salaitas are known, while the Melissa Landas are not. In other domains and registers, there are different gaps. Ultimately, it's a variant on "they would say it about Jews, they'd say it about other groups too." The claims of injustice are not wrong, but the claims of uniqueness very often are. How many times have we heard variations on "can you imagine if there was a mob of people harassing and making racist remarks towards any other minority group -- how would universities respond to that?" (As we saw at UCLA, the answer apparently is "they'd sit back and let said mob kick the crap out of their targets"). And at the same time, we've also heard plenty of iterations of "if a university dared cancel a pro-Israel event, it'd be on the front-page of every newspaper for the next month" (so far, no headlines). So I'll all say is that, if you're of the bent that there's no meaningful suppression of pro-Israel speech in campus environments, and your informational ecosystem (other than me, I guess) didn't alert you to this cancellation at CUNY, you should consider how the former belief might be correlated with the latter lacuna. Other people might have different gaps, and they should contemplate what generates them as well. via The Debate Link https://ift.tt/SaROhQI

Hey, everyone! Itâs Juno with a very, very important question. Everybody sit down.
As 101.7 OUROBOROS is on hiatus before season 3, Iâm taking this opportunity to work on a couple other side projects I have. I love them both dearly, but Iâm wondering which of them you would be most interested in hearing as a full-fledged show. So, tell me- which of these two shows would you be more likely to listen to?
After being in an accident at the age of 13, a man wakes up from a 7-year coma to find some very important things have changed. For one, his friend involved in the accident with him is now a ghost who only he can talk with. Oh, yeah- and the world is ending. A virus which grants people inhuman strength and the irresistible urge to steal everything you can get your hands on has spread like wildfire across the globe. (Apocalyptic mystery thriller)
A detective and her sidekick live in the town of Kingsborough, New Maryland (donât ask what happened to the old one), where crime seems to lurk around every corner. When the pair is put on the trail of an elusive ring of art thieves, the leader of the group sends out his best hitwoman to eliminate the detective- but howâs she supposed to do that when her target is the most beautiful woman sheâs ever met? She can only âfailâ so many times before it starts to get suspicious. (Comedy drama)

Many of those murdered by Hamas had their cell phones taken. Hamas videoed the murdered victims with their own phones, and uploaded the videos and images to the victimsâ social media pages, for their families and friends to see.
I could go on, and I could share unwatchable videos and photos here, but I will not.
Instead, I will share the vapid message you shared after all of this with our campus community â many of whom have relatives in Israelâ about these horrors.
You wrote: âwe must only [sic] not continue to pray for peace, but each of us must act for peace and understanding in ways that will continue to bridge that which threatens to divide us.â
When Jews were the victims of such unimaginable atrocities, that was your message?
I ask that decent people reading this email compare these hollow words to the lengthy other meaningful statements you have previously issued in brutal attacks against other groups.
People can draw their own conclusions.
We can also compare your words with what other presidents at CUNY have said about the recent monstrosities:
Brooklyn College President Michelle Anderson stated, âwe condemn the violent attack by Hamas on Israel and its diverse peoples.â Hunter President Ann Kirschner stated âwe condemn the violent attack by Hamas terrorists on Israel.â BMCC President Anthony Munroe emphatically expressed, âthe heinous attack by Hamas on Israel and its people is as horrific as it is heartbreaking.â
There is also some deeply hurtful history here. Some people will be shocked to learn that in May 2021, a Kingsborough student beat an Orthodox Jew with a baseball bat, blocks from our campus. Leaving no doubt about his motivations, the student yelled, âKill All the Jews! Free Palestine!â while beating his victim.
He was charged with a hate crime. Soon after the attack, Brooklyn College issued a strong statement condemning it.
But President Schrader, you said absolutely nothing about the gruesome attack. For me, an openly observant Jew, that really hurt. One of our own students was responsible for something so horrific against an underrepresented group that has been victimized by all too much horror and violence, and you refused to speak.
