I really wish Vinland saga would make a joke out of the fact that he historically has sons named after his father (Sven) and his brother (Harald), because in the series he HATED his father and KILLED his brother.
I mean it would be so funny if there was just a singular scene or something that’s like “How do I convince my people that I did not hate and kill my father and brother? Oh I know! I’ll name my sons after them! They will suspect nothing.” And he would be right.

Here me out~! Vinland Saga in a Hunger Games AU.
King Sweyn holds the Hunger Games annually to show his power over the kingdoms that he has conquered. He orders that two people from every province be taken and put through grueling obstacles. The one person who comes out alive will become one of the king's guards.
Only this year, his son Canute is one of the ones participating...
There is a mix-up in the drawings, and Canute ends up in the same province as Thorfinn. Their mentors are Askeladd and Bjorn, who are famously the most well-honored victors of the Hunger Games. Askeladd won the sixth annual Hunger Games. Bjorn won the thirteenth annual Hunger Games.
Now, it is the thirty-third annual Hunger Games, and both of them are stuck together for now. Thorfinn won't allow anyone to survive but him to take revenge on the King who ordered his entire family slaughtered. Canute won't allow himself to fail, as he would be seen as a coward and a disgrace to his family. He just hopes that Ragnar is one of his supporters.
King Sweyn totally tells Canute that it is to show that he is willing to put his own son in the games, so this shows that he is a just king, and blah, blah, blah. He really just hopes Canute ends up getting killed, since he only needs his eldest son as an heir to the throne.
Thorkell won the first ever Hunger Games and is the other well-honored victor among the living ones. He has a lookalike named Garm and a small hunter woman named Hild as his tributes. He has been betting against Askeladd and Bjorn for years. He always relishes when one of his little tributes wins. Of course, for over half the years that the games have been running, his tributes have won.
We have a noblewoman named Gudrid who is tied to a man that she hates. She always swoons over all of the tributes every year, and this year, a particular one has caught her eye.
We have a little tribute named Arnheid, who comes from the same province as a farmer named Einar. Their mentor is a battle-hardened man named Snake, who won his year by beheading the last tribute in a peculiarly gruesome manner.
Who will come out standing as the last one to win in these games? (Would yall like to poll and see who would actually win out of popularity and skill?)

The Bastard Kings and their families
This is series of posts are complementary to this historical parallels post from the JON SNOW FORTNIGHT EVENT, and it's purpouse to discover the lives of medieval bastard kings, and the following posts are meant to collect portraits of those kings and their close relatives.
In many cases it's difficult to find contemporary art of their period, so some of the portrayals are subsequent.

4) Emma of Normandy (c. 984 –1052), daughter of Richard I of Normandy and his wife Gunnor
5) Harthacnut/ Knut III of Denmark (c. 1018 – 1042), son of Knut the Great and his wife Emma of Normandy
6) Gunhilda of Denmark (c. 1020 – 1038), daughter of Knut the Great and his wife Emma of Normandy
7) Holy Roman Emperor Henry III (1016 -1056), son of Holy Roman Emperor Conrad II and his wife Gisela of Swabia
8) Beatrice of Franconia (1037 – 13 July 1061), daughter of Holy Roman Emperor Henry III and his wife Gunhilda of Denmark
9) Edward the Confessor (c. 1003 – 1066), son of Æthelred II of England and his wife Emma of Normandy
