Thors and The Great Artorius
My headcannon for Askeladd is this ship scene after killing Thors. In the face-off against him it didn't really cross his mind until he was alone in his thoughts. Askeladd thought of Thors similarly to the Great Artorious - matter of fact he thought Thors was Artorious. They're both strong warriors, and living in a far away land without any violence. Thors never returned to battle, and Artorious didn't seem to want to either. (Matter of fact, Thors was deemed as "dead" when he was alive. Since that is the case he almost would have been living in Iceland forever. Artorious, in Askeladd's eyes would never return either).
Who would want to go back in the hell hole anyway? Thors is strong and has status. If he wanted to he could go back to being the leader of the Jomsviking (with a lot of convincing) and join King Sweyn's army as a chief commander. THATS A LOT OF PEOPLE UNDER THORS'S CONTROL IF HE CAME BACK TO THE JOMSVIKING + KING SWEYN'S ARMY. It would be the greatest battle against Thorkell in London Bridge. And according to Artorious's legend, if he returned he would come back with thousands of men. Thors and Artorious both have the same influence and power.
So after killing Thors, taking Thorfinn under his wing (not really) he had high hopes for Thorfinns skill.

I really wish Vinland saga would make a joke out of the fact that he historically has sons named after his father (Sven) and his brother (Harald), because in the series he HATED his father and KILLED his brother.
I mean it would be so funny if there was just a singular scene or something that’s like “How do I convince my people that I did not hate and kill my father and brother? Oh I know! I’ll name my sons after them! They will suspect nothing.” And he would be right.

Here me out~! Vinland Saga in a Hunger Games AU.
King Sweyn holds the Hunger Games annually to show his power over the kingdoms that he has conquered. He orders that two people from every province be taken and put through grueling obstacles. The one person who comes out alive will become one of the king's guards.
Only this year, his son Canute is one of the ones participating...
There is a mix-up in the drawings, and Canute ends up in the same province as Thorfinn. Their mentors are Askeladd and Bjorn, who are famously the most well-honored victors of the Hunger Games. Askeladd won the sixth annual Hunger Games. Bjorn won the thirteenth annual Hunger Games.
Now, it is the thirty-third annual Hunger Games, and both of them are stuck together for now. Thorfinn won't allow anyone to survive but him to take revenge on the King who ordered his entire family slaughtered. Canute won't allow himself to fail, as he would be seen as a coward and a disgrace to his family. He just hopes that Ragnar is one of his supporters.
King Sweyn totally tells Canute that it is to show that he is willing to put his own son in the games, so this shows that he is a just king, and blah, blah, blah. He really just hopes Canute ends up getting killed, since he only needs his eldest son as an heir to the throne.
Thorkell won the first ever Hunger Games and is the other well-honored victor among the living ones. He has a lookalike named Garm and a small hunter woman named Hild as his tributes. He has been betting against Askeladd and Bjorn for years. He always relishes when one of his little tributes wins. Of course, for over half the years that the games have been running, his tributes have won.
We have a noblewoman named Gudrid who is tied to a man that she hates. She always swoons over all of the tributes every year, and this year, a particular one has caught her eye.
We have a little tribute named Arnheid, who comes from the same province as a farmer named Einar. Their mentor is a battle-hardened man named Snake, who won his year by beheading the last tribute in a peculiarly gruesome manner.
Who will come out standing as the last one to win in these games? (Would yall like to poll and see who would actually win out of popularity and skill?)

The Bastard Kings and their families
This is series of posts are complementary to this historical parallels post from the JON SNOW FORTNIGHT EVENT, and it's purpouse to discover the lives of medieval bastard kings, and the following posts are meant to collect portraits of those kings and their close relatives.
In many cases it's difficult to find contemporary art of their period, so some of the portrayals are subsequent.
1) Harold I of England (?- 1040), son of Knut the Great and his wife Ælfgifu of Northampton
2) Knut the Great (c. 990 – 1035), son of Sweyn Forkbeard and his wife Świętosława of Poland
3) Sweyn Forkbeard (963 – 1014), son Knut Danaást or Harald Bluetooth and his wife Tove or Gunhild
4) Emma of Normandy (c. 984 –1052), daughter of Richard I of Normandy and his wife Gunnor
5) Harthacnut/ Knut III of Denmark (c. 1018 – 1042), son of Knut the Great and his wife Emma of Normandy
6) Gunhilda of Denmark (c. 1020 – 1038), daughter of Knut the Great and his wife Emma of Normandy
7) Holy Roman Emperor Henry III (1016 -1056), son of Holy Roman Emperor Conrad II and his wife Gisela of Swabia
8) Beatrice of Franconia (1037 – 13 July 1061), daughter of Holy Roman Emperor Henry III and his wife Gunhilda of Denmark
9) Edward the Confessor (c. 1003 – 1066), son of Æthelred II of England and his wife Emma of Normandy
10) Ælfred Æþeling (c. 1012–1036), son of Æthelred II of England and his wife Emma of Normandy

How morbidly comical.
Going back to the original topic, as much as I'm not fond of him, I'm pretty sure that Charles III isn't going to die from this cancer (like someone else said, they caught it early and it's easily treatable), and I don't think it's right to hope for another's death.
If nothing else, I hope he sticks around for a little longer for the sake of his son William, who seems to be a fairly decent man and has lost his mother at a young age, been estranged from his brother for years, and now recently lost his beloved grandmother over a year ago. I'm pretty sure that with everything else going on and his children still quite young, now is not the time for him to lose his father and be saddled with the burden of kingship.
To be very pedantic, if Charles croaks in the next couple of months he will be the shortest reigning King of England of his line. The shortest reigning King of England period is apparently some asshole named Sweyn Forkbeard who reigned for like five weeks in the year 1014.

Monarch #8
These were getting wordy, so I'm going to try keep them short and pithy. I encourage you to look them up if you want to know more, and why wouldn't you? ;)
Who: Sweyn Forkbeard Also Known As: Sveinn Haraldsson tjúguskegg (Old Norse), Svend Tveskæg (Danish), Who He's Not: Forkbeard (phycis phycis) Where: England, Denmark (986-1014), Norway (999/1000 - 1013/14) Succeeded: Æthelred the Unready (and was also succeeded by Æthelred the Unready) Reigned: 1013-1014 Born: 17th April, 963, Denmark, the son of Knut Danaást or Harald Bluetooth and Tove or Gunhild. Died: 3rd February, 1014 Buried: Roskilde Cathedral (Denmark) or Lund Cathedral (Sweden) Consorts/Children: First married Świętosława and also possibly Sigrid the Haughty (complicated and possibly mythical), and between them (or not) was (were?) the mother(s) of Harald, who became king of Denmark, Cnut, who became king of England, Estrid, Gytha, Gunnhild, Santslaue, and Thyra.
Sweyn Facts! He revolted against his father and seized the throne of Denmark!
Joined forces with the king of Sweden against Norway, and they divided the kingdom between them!
Allegedly in response to the St. Brice's Day Massacre, where supposedly his sister Gunhilde was killed, Sweyn invaded England. He ruled a year or so before dying. His eldest son succeeded him as king of Denmark, and the Danelaw proclaimed Cnut as king of England. The English sent for Aethelred, and drove Cnut out. He came back in 1016.
It's hard to have any more King Sweyn of England facts because he lasted such a short time.
Wife Facts! A Polish princess, the daughter of Mieszko I, Świętosława is a presumed name, based on the fact that a sister of Cnut had the name. She may have been a combination of two wives of Sweyn - Gunhild (the Polish princess, Cnut's mother) and Sigrid the Haughty, the mother of Sweyn's daughter, Estrid. Whatever her name, or whether she is one or two women, this wife (wives) is (are) the mother(s) of Harald II of Denmark, Cnut of England, and Estrid.
