It’s pretty ironic how Pixelberry’s focus on forbidden romances has produced pretty mediocre stories, while their earlier books had some pretty damn good forbidden romances without even making it a huge deal.

A Bushel and a Peck
Book: TRR
Pairing: Liam Rys x Riley Brooks-Rys
Word Count: ~3160
Warning: For mature audiences only; TW: major character deaths; mention of cancer, declining health, miscarriages; depiction of an afterlife
A/N: This is a follow-up to Wounded (you don't need to read it to understand this fic). I was asked to "fix it," and I think I did--I mean, I tried... but in a non-traditional way, that still leads to a true HEA. In a way, this is fairly fluffy, but sad fluffy.
A/N 2: Some of these characters, plot points and dialogue belong to our friends at Pixelberry. This was not beta'd; please excuse my errors.
~🖤~
"Can you show us another one?"
"Please, Auntie Ri? Just one more?"
Riley chuckles under her breath before a dry cough robs her titters. "You two aren't tired of those yet?"
Seven-year-old Monie grabs another leather-bound photo album as her five-year-old sister Ginny finishes a snack. The two girls visit with their great-great aunt every Thursday afternoon during the summer months while their mother runs errands.
"How about this one?" Monie passes the scrapbook to Riley, her frail, old hands gripping tightly to the heavy collection of photographs.
"Oh!" Riley squeals, a gravel to her voice, "you picked one of my favorite ones–"
"You say that about every album," Ginny retorts.
"Shhh, your manners!" Monie shakes her finger at her little sister.
Riley smiles warmly. "You're right; I do say that about my photo albums because I just love all of them." She pauses, licking her lined lips. "But this one…" her breath catches in adoration as she opens the front cover. "This one is very special. Here," she pats the empty spaces next to her on the bed, "let me show you."
The nieces eagerly climb on to the bed, sitting close on either side of Riley.
"Who is that?" Ginny exclaims in shock, looking over her aunt's arms in awe. "She looks like a Disney princess!"
Riley curls an arm around her petite body, giving the little girl a gentle kiss in her raven curls.
"He's cute!" Monie croons, "he looks like–like Ken!"
Riley lets out a heartfelt laugh before coughing into a handkerchief. "This," she points to the tall, broad-shouldered man, dressed in full regalia, "is King William the first of Cordonia."
"Whoa," both girls hum in unison, their eyes glittering in awe.
"And this woman?" She points to the bride in the picture, "is me."
Ginny gasps, staring up at Riley. "But, Auntie Ri," Ginny puts a finger to her mouth, "where's your crown? And–and why is your hair a different color–?"
"Ginny!" Monie scolds.
Riley coughs into her hand, clearing her throat. "Those are some good observation skills," she boops Ginny on the nose, the little girl then turning to stick out her tongue at her older sister. "This picture was taken on my wedding day, over seventy years ago."
"Wow, that's older than Daddy," Ginny announces.
"So, that's Uncle Liam?" Monie guesses hopefully, pointing to the blond groom.
Riley hums approvingly. "That is your great-great-uncle Liam."
Monie sighs dreamily looking at the picture. "You're so beautiful, Auntie Ri. Did you love him with all of your heart?"
Riley smiles, a sudden twinkle in her stormy blue eyes as she softly caresses her niece's cheek. "I still do."
After receiving Liam's grim test results for his cancer treatment, the young royal couple was advised by the Council to seek a second opinion. And then a third. But, the conclusion was always the same. Liam was dying.
With the uncertainty of his time left, he made the difficult decision to step down as king. Cordonia was finally stable and strong enough that it could–and it would– thrive with the sudden change.
But, once the choice was made, Liam never looked back to the country he loved so dearly. He couldn't. All he could see now was his wife, the woman that held his heart, the woman who wholly and bravely kept her vows…
… for worse…
… in sickness…
Liam and Riley savored every last moment they had with one another during his final eight weeks, laughing and revisiting old memories of their seven years of marriage. They enjoyed one last private waltz before he was confined to a wheelchair, one last café and baklava at their favorite late night bistro before he was restricted to the palace walls. They held each other close at night, whispering prayers of love over one another, for just one more day, for just one more chance to say, 'I love you.'
And then he went.
Olivia Nevrakis assumed the throne as queen of Cordonia. Liam's short reign will always be celebrated in history as a time of rebuilding, as a time of peace, as a time that set the small country up for success.
Though not reigning, Riley is still revered as a queen, but shortly after Liam's death, she returned to New York to be near family. She did return to Cordonia for visits, but otherwise, her life resumed back in the states.
She never remarried. And after the four pregnancy losses she had with Liam, Riley had lost all hope and interest in ever becoming a mother.
But even though her heart was shattered, she discovered abundant joy in a different familial role: being an aunt. After the first generation of nieces and nephews had grown up, Riley quickly became the cornerstone of the Brooks family, highly regarded and respected. And loved. She was known as the fun aunt, the one with the best stories, the one that remembered birthdays and sporting events and recitals. She made sure every child in the family felt seen, heard, and above all else, loved.
Lost in the memories of her former life, a knock on the door interrupts Riley from her daydream. "Come in," she calls out, her soft timbre strained and gruff.
A young woman with dark hair bounds into the room, bracing her heavily pregnant belly. Monie and Ginny jump up from the bed, running to her with arms wide open. "Mommy!" They crash into her legs, nuzzling sweetly into their mother's sides.
"Hey, sweet girls," she croons, before she looks towards Riley, raising an eyebrow. "At least… I hope you two were sweet girls for Auntie Ri today."
"Oh, Jamie," Riley titters. "You know they are always perfect angels with me." She winks at her great-niece, hugging her daughters.
"Girls, Daddy is right outside. Can you go hold his hand? I need to talk with Auntie Ri for just a minute."
Nodding their heads, the two young girls run back to their great-great aunt to give her hugs and kisses goodbye.
"I love you–" Riley singsongs, giving them a knowing grin. Monie and Ginny chime in with her as they all sing in unison, "a bushel and a peck."
The girls raced to the hallway, instantly meeting their father. Jamie closes the door, letting out a sigh before turning her sad, glistening attention to her great aunt.
"Aunti Ri," a lump grows in her throat, "the doctors said you're refusing your heart cath."
Riley straightens out her posture, firming her jaw. "That's right, dear."
"Why?" The young woman whispers, wiping away a tear.
"Because what difference will it make?" Riley carefully grabs her walker, slowly making her way to her niece. "I'm almost 98-years-old, baby girl," she grabs Jamie's hand, comforting her as she watches her begin to cry. "It's time. I'm… ready to go home."
"But," Jamie exhales a trembling sob, "what about us? What if I'm not ready for you to go?"
Riley grins endearingly, "I know that feeling all too well." She gently rubs her thumb over her niece's fingers. "Did I ever tell you what my Liam said to me the night before he passed?"
Jamie dabs away her tears, shaking her head.
"We would stay up late into the night, dreaming of the life we could've had if it wasn't for, y'know, the cancer. But," Riley licks her lips, "that night. Our last night… Liam was quiet. There were no more what ifs or discussions of what could have been. Instead, he just smiled. Completely at peace." Riley's eyes flutter as she recounts the distant memory. "He simply said, 'I'm ready, love.'" Riley shrugs.
"Do you think he knew?" Jamie sniffles, "you think he was ready to die?"
"I think," Riley removes her bifocals, letting them hang around her neck as she draws closer to her niece. "He was ready to live again. He was ready for the next adventure that life has to offer."
Jamie tilts her head. "What's that?"
"Eternity," Riley chuckles, gripping tight to her great niece's arm. "He's been waiting for me a long time." She sighs with contempt, "You kids?" She chuckles to herself, "you are so strong. You all are. My presence isn't what makes you strong. It was our time together… and sure, you'll be sad. But this life?" Riley shakes her head. "It's not the end of the road. And as for me… I'm ready to live again. I'm ready for my next adventure." A tear rolls down Riley's cheek as she smiles brightly. "I'm ready for eternity."
Jamie helped Riley into her favorite rocking chair for her afternoon nap before dinner, covering her up with her favorite knitted blankets. The women hugged each other close before they finally said their goodbyes.
Turning to leave, Riley calls Jamie back to her side.
"Baby girl?" Riley titters before she begins to sing. "I love you–"
Jamie lets out a heartfelt laugh, wiping away the last of her tears. "--a bushel and a peck."
----------
Warm beams of light crawl across Riley's skin, stirring her awake from her deep slumber. She sits up, rubbing the remainder of her sleepiness from her eyes when suddenly, she freezes. She blinks a few more times as confusion--and fear–billows through her veins.
Her room. It's different. The space was large, filled with the gorgeous scent of pink Cordonian hydrangeas, fresh picked rubies… and something else. Someone else.
Riley takes in the soft gray hue of the walls, accented by the navy toile window treatments. Everything beautiful in its place, everything perfectly neat, everything… oddly familiar. Like a distant dream, like the memory of another life.
Cautiously taking in her new surroundings, Riley begins to mindlessly fumble with the intricate stitching of a throw pillow, the threading comforting to her fingertips.
Then she stops.
She holds up her hand, her ocean eyes growing wide with wonder. Her skin. It is pure like the first Lythikos snow. No blemishes, no creases. It's perfectly smooth, perfectly pink and supple. Speechless, she reaches up to touch her own flushed cheeks.
And she gasps, the lines of the past century remarkably gone. Her face. It feels impossibly soft. Like velvet.
A thread of panic unfurls in her stomach as she throws the covers off her body, retreating to the en suite bathroom. Riley has had dreams like this before–many times, actually. Fantasies about her younger years, about her life in Cordonia, about the precious moments she had with the love of her life.
But there was something strange about this one. Something life-like. Something real.
Riley stares at her reflection in the mirror, her hands curiously exploring her body. Espresso tresses. Slender slopes of her waist and hips. She swivels to the left, then to the right, chuckling at her age-rewind. If she could only tell herself then what she knows now…
As she pretends to pin her hair up in different regal styles, the whisper of a melody floats into the room. Startled by the accompaniment, Riley twirls around, listening more intently. She takes a step forward. Then another. She cranes her neck towards the bedroom door, her only exit.
It was a guitar. Someone was playing it.
Riley carefully opens the door, and pads softly down the hallways, through the kitchen and to the foyer. She presses her ear to the front door of her quarters, the music crescendoing through the air.
Swiftly exiting the quarters, Riley tiptoes through the halls down to the main corridor, following the strumming of notes. She finally comes to a set of double doors, one of them sitting ajar as a heavenly light pours out.
Placing her fingertips on the ornate wood, the vibrations of each chord stirs the wings of butterflies in her heart. Taking a deep breath, she pokes her head into the room.
A woman–an older woman–sits casually in a chair, her fingers meticulously plucking the strings. Riley focuses on her kind face and soft features. Her wavy blonde hair is pinned back into a low bun, exposing the brilliance of her crystal blue eyes. Though expressionless as she played, the curves of her rosy lips are pleasant, friendly.
"Oh!" She exclaims, noticing Riley. "You're finally here!"
Riley's eyes grow into saucers. Does she know this woman?
She watches the older woman set down her instrument before bounding towards where Riley stood.
"We have been waiting for you," she smiles sincerely, taking Riley's hands endearingly into her own. “We have so much to talk about–”
"Grandma!"
"Oh!" She lets out a hearty laugh as four small children file into the room, dashing quickly to her side. She bends over and greets each one with a tight hug and a kiss. "How are my darlings?"
Riley smiles at the interaction, admiring the love this woman has for her beautiful grandchildren. She then casually surveys the room; are their parents nearby?
She looks back to the family when suddenly, she notices one of the blond boys with striking eyes like his grandmother is gazing up at her. He doesn't say a word, but his stare is friendly, warm and inviting.
Riley climbs onto her knees, her attention not leaving him as she soaks in his handsome mannerisms. Even for such a young boy, his hair was perfectly combed to the side. His collared shirt was properly tucked in, and he politely held his hands together behind his back. So precious, so refined and orderly, just like…
Riley gasps as a sea of tears gather in her eyes. She reaches out, combing her fingers through his short hair before stroking his freckled cheeks. And she lets out a silent whimper. "William?"
The young boy giggles, turning back to his brothers and sister. "I told you she would remember me!"
Wrapping her arms around his frame, Riley pulls him to herself tightly, his arms securing around her neck. "My–my baby boy…" One-by-one, each child approaches slowly, excitement written on their chubby faces. Riley caresses the cheeks of two more little boys: another blond and one with dark brunette hair like hers. "Henry?" She sniffles as he nods, chewing coyly on his fingernail. "Alexander?" The two boys join the embrace with their brother William, rivers cascading down their mother's face as she peppers them with kisses.
"Do you remember me, Mommy?"
Riley glances up to see a little girl with stormy blue eyes, her espresso waves tamed into two braids. Though she wore a pretty pink jumper with bows, she was wearing a pair of muddy galoshes.
That's my girl.
"My Eleanor," Riley whispers, extending her hand to join the fold with her brothers. She presses her lips into the little girl's temple as she holds her close. "Oh, my baby, I love you," she squeezes her grip around the boys, "all of you!" She snickers, "I love you."
"A bushel and a peck," Alexander pipes up. "Right, Mommy?"
New warm tears pour down Riley's reddened face as she lovingly dotes on her children. "That's right, baby," her breath quivers, "that's right. But… how did you–?"
"You used to sing that to me at night–"
"Me, too!" Henry exclaims while William nods in agreement.
"You and Daddy told me that over and over," Eleanor giggles, "until I woke up in Grandma's arms!"
Riley freezes as she peers up at the older woman, now overcome with her own tears of joy. She slowly stands, her lips parting in awe. "Your majesty?"
"I haven't been called that in over 85 years!" The older woman shares a contagious laugh, “But, how about we just stick with ‘Eleanor’ for now?” She quickly reaches out, pulling her daughter-in-law into a snug embrace. Riley quickly slinks her arms around the woman, holding her close as they both weep silently together. "You," Eleanor whispers, "were more than I ever dreamed for my Liam. You were–You are everything he deserves… and more.”
Riley suddenly lets go, staring into her mother-in-law's eyes. She bites her lip as she tilts her head curiously, almost in disbelief.
"Where… where is he?" She sobs into a smile.
Eleanor tucks Riley's hair behind her ear before resting her hands on her daughter-in-law's shoulders. "Where do you think, my dear?"
Riley stumbles backwards as a bright smile crawls across her face. She finally turns around, pushing through the double doors and out into the main corridor. After descending the grand staircase, she exits into the pure daylight, a gentle breeze greeting her. She glances around the grounds, the fresh greenery invigorating her senses. Without thinking, she abruptly takes off down the steps, sprinting through the bushes, across the courtyard and around the fountain. Finally, she reaches a thick hedge of beautifully twisted vines and leaves. The garden maze.
Riley closes her eyes as she catches her breath, another gust of wind tangling in her hair. A tug on her heart beckons for her to keep going as she fumbles her way into the maze. She frantically runs around the corners and through the turns, her hands outstretched to catch her if she trips.
Making it around the last twist of the path, Riley spills into the center of the maze: the garden. Her eyes frantically search, scouring through the area, looking behind lattice work and dense pieces of foliage until finally, she gasps.
Around the corner along a private path, a tall, strongly-built man slowly paces next to a swing, his hands casually in his pockets. With his short locks of blond ruffling in the breeze, he glances at his watch before instantly feeling a pair of stormy blue eyes fixed on him.
As he peers over his shoulder, a smile tugs at his lips, his breath escaping his lungs as his eyes begin to shimmer.
"There you are, my love."
With reckless abandon, Riley dashes down the dirt path, gasping for air between her wails of disbelief. Leaping into the air, Liam's strong arms instantly catch her, pulling her close to his broad chest. His large hand cradles her intimately as his other fists tightly into her careless waves. She locks her legs around his waist, her fingers combing hungrily into his hair as she presses her face into his neck.
And she weeps, deep groans escaping her chest as her body shudders in his arms.
"Shhh," Liam gently croons, warm tears coursing down his chiseled cheeks. "It's alright now. Everything is alright now."
Quieting down, Riley looks up to her husband, his lips immediately finding hers. "Is this real?" She pants, claiming his mouth again. "Please tell me this is real life, baby."
Liam pulls her into another deep kiss, his tongue gently caressing her lips apart as he elicits soft mewls from her mouth. He pulls back, his crystal blue gaze meeting her hopeful, tear-stained eyes. "It's better, love." He pushes a wayward tendril from her face. "This is eternity."

The Start of Forever
Premise: The Prince always knew his duty would require sacrifice, but no one told his heart that.
Book: The Royal Romance Pairing: Liam x MC (Phoebe Summers) Rating/Category: General. Angsty Fluff. Words: 810
A/N: Some of you know, Liam is my favorite Choices LI [I changed the default name to Aiden]. I don't typically write for TRR, but the @kingliamappreciationweek inspired me to write this fic. This is for Day 5. Enjoy! I'm using @choicesflashfics week 29, prompt 2 (in bold) and @creativepromptsforwriting prompt 362. Tagging for reblog to @creativepromptfills. Also submitting to @aprilchallenge prompt "wish"
Prince Aiden Rys had not grown up believing love was a possibility in his future. He might have wished for it -- in the darkest part of the night when his thoughts were too loud for him to sleep — and secretly hoped he could fall in love with the woman he would marry.
But believe? No. That required more than he had to give. And he had already given up so much. And yet. For a few hours last night, he fell in love and believed in the possibility of forever.
Aiden glanced at the digital clock on the bedside table, ubiquitous to hotel rooms everywhere, and locked his hands behind his head on the pillow. He should get up and get dressed. But he did none of those things. Wanting to prolong these fleeting moments of freedom for as long as he could.
Bastien would knock on his door in a couple of hours, reverential but unyielding, as he shepherded Aiden to the airport. The bodyguard’s presence would mark the end of this interlude and the beginning of the next: Cordonia’s social season and selecting his future queen.
But the Masquerade Ball was still hours away, and Aiden was not ready for reality to intrude just yet.
Earlier tonight, he arrived at the address Maxwell had texted him. Aiden hadn’t known what to expect from what appeared to be a dive bar. But knowing his exuberant friend, he’d had trepidations. At the same time, he hoped Drake would keep the younger Beaumont brother in check.
Okay, somewhat in check, Aiden laughed silently. Very few people in this world had the power to control Maxwell.
All his reservations went out the door the moment he saw her. The ugly uniform couldn’t detract from the beauty of her heart-shaped face and soulful blue eyes framed by long black hair, the front of which was arranged in a complicated braid.
One could argue there were more beautiful and sophisticated women at Court. But at that moment, Aiden was hard-pressed to name a single one of them, let alone remember what they looked like.
All he could think was, finally. There you are. Quickly followed by not her, not now.
He couldn’t fall in love just when he had accepted what he must do for the good of his kingdom. The people of Cordonia deserved a monarch who placed duty, the honor of sacrifice and love for one’s country ahead of everything else.
Aiden hoped he would one day be worthy of Cordonia’s storied legacy.
But tonight, just for a few hours more, he wasn’t a king or a prince. He was just Aiden. A man that craved freedom even as he embraced his responsibilities.
During dinner, he’d tried to hide his feelings, but his eyes followed Phoebe every chance they got. He hoped he’d been surreptitious in his admiration, but he’d never been in love.
Drake had given him a look that told Aiden he wasn’t being his usual stoic self. After that, he’d turned his attention to the deluxe burgers, listening absently to Maxwell’s tall tales and ignoring Tariq’s snide remarks about the food and the establishment.
Later, Aiden walked up to Phoebe, apologized for his friends’ boorish behaviors and racked his brain for an excuse to stay in her orbit a while longer.
Luckily he remembered Maxwell’s earlier comment about wanting to try a New York City nightclub, and things progressed from there. The flashing lights held no appeal for him, but sharing a drink with Phoebe and telling her his secret had felt freeing.
The whole night had been a lesson in spontaneity, from Phoebe arranging a private boat tour of the Statue of Liberty to that unexpected kiss just as the cloud cover broke and the stars sparkled above them like so much fairy dust.
They only realized they were holding hands the entire time, the moment they had to let go as the boat docked at the pier. They disembarked, turning to face each other, the Manhattan skyline rising behind them, both uncertain about what came next. But knowing instinctively this was it. There was no next.
That’s all they were now. A memory. A faded picture. A failed potential. Two people, right for each other, who’d met at the wrong time.
If only, thought Aiden, shoving the covers aside, swinging his legs off the bed and forcing himself to let go.
He might be a prince, but he’d always known his life was not a fairy tale.
When the knock came on his door, as he’d known it would, he glanced at the man in the mirror one last time. One who’d been free to kiss the woman he loved on a starry night under the watchful eye of the ultimate symbol of freedom.
And he said goodbye to what could never be.

Masterlist for More Recent Meta
My old essay masterlist was written during the time I was still actively playing Choices, and often went into detail on the diamond scenes of certain characters. But in more recent years, I began writing essays stemming from asks I recieved. I couldn't put them in that masterlist because it was too full by then, and over time all my essays/meta posts became difficult to track. I thought it would be a good time to compile them in a separate place.
Many of these essays were written around 2019-2021, and a lot may have happened since the writing of those. So do understand that some of them were written at a time when the full story was not out, but the arguments behind them often still hold.
I will keep adding to this list as and when I find more essays.

Dispite this Gif, no I’m not ready for Christmas at all. But I do have some Christmas Fics in the works.
Here’s what I’ve posted in the last week or so in case you missed it:
The Cordonian Arrangement: Dreams Broken Heart
Here’s what I’ve been writing on, nothing is finished yet of course, but you know. That’s how I roll, we’ll get to them eventually. Thank you for being part of my writing journey.
Original Post: 11/27/22 at 4:02PM EST.
Mood Music Monday Submission Song Inspiration: Silent Night by the Temptations Holiday Vibes The Book: TRR (no royals) Series: School Dayz Pairings: Liam x Riley Status: Still in the writing process
“Thanks for driving me to the mall today, and driving me around when Jaiden can’t.”
“It’s no problem, and I like driving you around, makes me feel manly.”
Liam’s face turned bright pink.
“I…..said that out loud didn’t I?”
“You did but it’s okay. I like that you’re adorkably honest with me.”
Riley’s face turned serious.
“You know sliding on the ice during the storm really scared me Liam.”
“I know it did, but I’m glad you and Taylor were okay. When I saw your Jeep…. My heart broke Riley. I was so worried you were hurt.”
Liam took her hand and held it.
“Dad said you could stay for dinner if you want.”
“He’s warming up to me don’t you think?”
“I mean as much as my dad can warm up to people.”
“Whoa…. Looks like he’s been busy.”
When they left the Brooks household that morning there was no Christmas decor up. Coming back that evening. Liam was flabbergasted.
He helped Riley bring her shopping bags inside the house.
“Whoa…. It looks like Santa threw up in here.”
“No Liam, tell me how you feel about the decorations.”
Taylor burst out laughing from the couch as Mr. Brooks stepped out into the foyer holding a string of Christmas lights.
“Damn Liam. Can you not step in it once?”
“Jai! Language!”
“I’m just not used to a lot of Christmas decorations. My family doesn’t really do holidays like this. I think it’s really nice.”
“Jason and I grew up in the foster care system, and holidays were hard when you were living in foster homes at the holidays. We both vowed if we ever had families, we would celebrate. It’s very important to us. So we go all out.”
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t meaning to make fun of the decorations.”
“Go help Riley put her presents away in her room, and you can come back and help us decorate.”
The Vampires Live On Part 3 The Book: TRR Series: N/A The Vampires Live On Part 1 / The Vampires Live On Part 2 Pairing: Liam x Riley Status: Still in the writing process
“I can’t believe we finally made it here.”
“I know, it’s been a very long time. Longer than I intended Riley, but I made good on my promise.”
The two of them were driving into Lumberton city limits.
“Where would you like to go first?”
“The library. I want to see what articles I can find from around what happened.”
“I figured, good thing I decided to call ahead.”
“How did you know?”
“Because I know you Love."
“Yeah it only took you a few years to get to know me.”
Liam winked. “Only a few.”
When she stepped out of the car, Riley took a deep breath.
“How does this town still smell the same after all these years?”
“What does it smell like to you Riley?”
“Like home.”
Liam held her hand as they walked up to the library counter.
“We’re here to speak with Mrs. Banks.”
“And whom might I let her know is here?”
“Liam Rys, and Riley Brooks. I spoke to her over the phone a few days ago. She’s expecting us.”
Shattered Heart The Book: TRR The Series: The Cordonian Arrangement Pairings: Riley x Nico / (Riley x M!OC) / Liam x Riley Status: Still in the writing process
"Thank you for coming, King Liam."
"Please just call me Liam."
"Liam, thank you. Nico said you would be the only one that would be able to get through to her right now."
"My heart breaks for her. She is in so much pain, as with your whole family. Nico was a good man."
"He was a wonderful son, brother, husband and father. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him."
Liam hugged Mother Karahalios.
"You're such a good boy too. Your mother would have been proud of you. My Athena is on her way to bring Angelo to you. He will need you now, more than ever."
"He barely knows me, and Riley is in no condition to care for him right now."
"You'll be fine. But this is the start of you beginning to truly bond with your son. You will be his primary caregiver for now."
A few minutes later Athena walked through the door holding a sleeping Angelo in her arms.
“Where’s Riley?”
“She’s sleeping.”
“Are you sure we should leave Angelo, Mama? Riley can barely care for herself right now. She needs some time. I can keep Angelo with me. He can play with his cousins.”
“Liam’s here, Angelo will be fine. Give him to Liam.”
“He looks shell shocked.” Athena said in Greek. “Are you sure we should leave Angelo here with this man?”
"That 'man' as you called him is Angelo's biological father. No harm will come to Angelo in his care."
Athena had thought she was hiding her apprehensions of Liam behind the Greek language with her conversation to Mother Karahalios. Liam kept his face unemotional, but was relieved Mother Karahalios had defended him. Liam decided to show Athena that Greek was one of the many languages he was also fluent in.
“Angelo is safe with me. My son is safe with me.”
“If that was the case, my brother wouldn’t have to have taken care of your child for you.”
“Athena now is not the time to do this.”
The Last Part The Book: TRH and Beyond The Series: The Rotten Apple 🍎 Pairings: Elle x Nico (Elle x M!OC) Status: Still in the writing process
Ana was still unusually quiet at dinner, and Nico being so perceptive and intune with Ana, noticed immediately.
"What's wrong Honeybee?" He playfully nudged her and smiled.
She looked at Elle for a moment, then turned to him shaking her head shrugging her shoulders. Nico’s smile immediately faded, his facial muscles tensing slightly, an overwrought look taking over his face.
"Ana? What's wrong?" Nico was concerned.
“Nothing.” Ana whispered, still failing to make eye contact with him while picking at the food on her plate. Ana did not have an appetite.
"Don't lie to me. You look at me when I talk to you, young lady."
She looked up from her plate.
"Tell me the truth Ana."
Ana's eyes filled with tears.
"Mommy's sick again."
Surprised flashed in his eyes as he dropped his fork, hitting his plate with a loud clatter.
"Elle?"
"I'm fine. I have been going to my therapy check ins. I haven't….seen him, Nico, I promise. I wouldn't hide that from you. Do you not believe me?"
Nico looked from Ana to Elle.
"What did you see Mommy do Ana?"
Elle gasped.
"Nothing! It can't be what you’re thinking! I didn't do anything Nico. I didn't."
Nico completely ignored her focusing on Ana.
"What did you see, Honeybee?"
“Nico…” Elle’s voice was low, pleading and timid. “I didn’t do anything…”
Ana looked at Elle.
“Don’t look at her. You look at me and tell me the truth.” Nico raised his voice. “NOW! Eliana. I mean it.”
"Nico…"
Immediately Ana’s eyes shifted to Nico’s.

Five Headcanons About King!Liam
Despite the chokehold The Royal Romance has had over me since 2018, I’ve always found it difficult to articulate how Liam rules. I believe it’s because when TRR isn’t using him for the MC’s benefit, they keep all his decision making off-screen. But, I’ve knuckled down and come up with five headcanons for how Liam rules Cordonia.
International Relations & Diplomacy
We see from book 2 that Liam has a focus on diplomacy. His entire engagement tour with Madeleine was also a diplomatic trip around the world. I’ve already heacanoned that Liam goes to more countries during the tour. It was always strange to me that the tour didn’t stop by the United Kingdom even though it's one of Cordonia’s allies and Madeleine’s father is an English duke. Liam brings Cordonia into the European Union because it’s what he deserves. Unlike his father, Liam puts more emphasis on the art of diplomacy. He revitalizes the foreign ministry with the advice of Duke Hakim and hires more ambassadors to make connections across the world. Under his reign, Cordonia becomes more well-known on the international stage.
The Liberation Core
We don’t know much about the Liberation Core. They’re introduced as a potential enemy in book 3, but our only insight into them is Gladys. What I’ve gleaned from Gladys’s story is that the Liberation Core is an political organization that protests the ill treatment of commoners by the nobility. The only reason they end up as the enemy is because Anton and Claudius, both members of the Sons of Earth, co-opt their movement and use it for their own benefit. So, I have Liam sit down with the Liberation Core to discuss grievances. I desperately need Liam to engage with commoners who aren’t his best friend and weren't essentially raised in the palace with him. Liam’s always stated that his duty is to the Cordonian people, which leads nicely into…
The Nobility
…Raising commoners into the nobility. We know that in TRR2, the MC gains a duchy regardless of whether she’s engaged to Liam or not. I believe down to my core that Liam gave Hana a duchy because it doesn’t makes sense for him not to. During his speech before the Homecoming Ball is attacked, he mentions wanting to revitalize the old houses of Cordonia. What better way to do that than bringing some commoners into the nobility and therefore bring new ideas and ways of thinking? Liam also makes efforts to mitigate the nobles' ability to abuse the citizens of their estate. He never wants another Lady Carmine situation again.
The Government
Remember in book 1 when there was a council that helped government affairs and influenced the outcome of the social season? Remember in book 3 when Liam implied that he wanted to put commoners on his new council… and then didn’t? Pepperidge Farms remembers. In my mind, these two councils merge into one, where each duchy has a council member from the nobility and the common people. I haven’t worked out the exact mechanics of the selection process yet, but the noble council seat is typically the current head of the duchy and someone they appoint to act as their stead if they’re unable to do their duties. The common seat (I need a better name), however, is chosen by the common people of the duchy in an election. As time goes on in his reign, I see Liam giving more voting power to the common people in Cordonia.
Culture & The Arts
What are two things Liam loves? Art and history. Liam gives more royal funding to every library in the country because that is what the people deserve. The Therons’ International Arts & Food Festival becomes more well-known as the years go by partly because of Liam’s effort to attend every year. I believe it’s canon that part of the royal palace is a museum and Liam makes sure it’s well taken care of. A lot of his personal wealth is funneled into cultural events like festivals and fairs that allow more intermingling between the common people and the nobility.

An Apology
Several months ago I accused someone of sending me a hate anon. I've thought about that ordeal from time to time, but even more so recently.
Being in a place in my life where Im not so stressed out anymore or disillusioned by every little thing, Im able to make rational thoughts and think things through a little clearer. Looking back at old messages with someone else, I have a pretty solid feeling I know who actually did send them and thankfully they're not around here any longer.
With that said, when Im wrong, I say Im wrong. And in that instance ... I was wrong. Even if I never said her name publicly, I would like to apologize to @queenrileyrose for my accusations and the hurt you experienced following that. I've already done so privately and the nature of that conversation will remain so.
I can't undo what happened, I can only try to make it right.
Here's to 2022 being about positivity and kindness. Again, my humblest apologies to QRR.

Happy Birthday to ...me lol
I have to take a moment here to show off these two amazing commissions my bestie @burnsoslow and my great friend @ao719 had done for my birthday.
The first piece by Burns is from her ORDIV Ch 33 when Liam proposed to Riley in the gazebo at Valtoria where the had their first day 🥺🥺🥺
The second one is from Anitah, who used a scene from the fic Burns wrote for my birthday last year Heaven, Hell or Houston when Liam and Riley had met at the bar and when on this whirlwind date, kissing at every stop light 😍
Two of my favorite scenes captured so perfectly and it makes my heart swell so big.
Thank you both so much for these precious works that I will cherish and most likely stare at everyday for weeks to come. I love you both with all my heart and thank you for making another year of getting older a lot more bearable and for your friendship that I value so hard!

Fools Rush In
Chapter 21
Book: TRR
Pairing: Liam x Riley
Series Premise: With two weeks before he is set to marry Madeleine, the guys throw Liam an impromptu bachelor party that results in him (and Drake) leaving Vegas with more than he bargained for.
Word count: 3900 -ish
Warning: Language
Soooo ... hey lol It's been a hot minute since I've written or posted anything (or just been around in general). Anyway, I came back to several messages asking about this chapter. I actually had 90% of it written back in October and just thought it was pure shit and gave up on it ... actually, I gave up on writing altogether. Having some time this week, I opened up the doc, rewrote some things, deleted out some stuff and finally managed to finish it. It's still not even close to what I wanted it to be, as it's the end of this arc, but I've decided to just have fun writing again. If there's anything Ive learned during my time away it's that none of us will ever write the perfect story, or use the perfect words, or have the most compelling characters and it's okay; I think I finally have accepted that. Just have fun doing it!
This concludes my TedTalk
---------------------------
“Doctor ... Wolfschitz?” a bewildered Alyssa questioned.
“That’s no damn doctor!” Drake bore his eyes into the former prince, who was already howling with laughter, dodging a pillow that whirled in his direction from Drake. “What the actual fuck is your problem, Leo?”
Leo clutched his side, trying to catch his breath. “The look on your face, man … I can't. I really had you going there for a minute didn’t I, Walker? Afraid you were about to lose that new pee-pee, huh?” He continued to laugh riotously at Drake’s expense before his gaze hastily shifted its attention toward Alyssa. “Why’d you blow my cover, thong girl?”
“Thong girl? Alyssa muttered, absentmindedly crossing her legs while attempting to hide the fact her face was quickly glowing bright pink. How’d he know I was wearing one?
“Why are you here, Leo?” Drake repeated as Leo casually strolled up to his bed and scooped up a chocolate pudding cup from Drake’s food tray. “And how in the sam hell did you even know I was in the hospital?
“Came with Liam,” he replied nonchalantly as he plopped his ass down on the end of the bed and peeled off the top of his pudding cup, licking the plastic wrap clean. “He’s down the hall with Riley right now. Seems my little brother is a prized stud after all … got that Rys sperm in him, ya know? Knocked her up real good yo. Hafta say … I’m impressed.”
“Knocked her up?” Alyssa gasped before stepping closer to him. “Hold up; Riley’s pregnant?”
Leo nodded and shoveled a giant heap of pudding into his mouth. “Yeah. I’m going to be an uncle again --” he eyed Drake’s plate contemplatively, “ -- You gonna eat the rest of that meatloaf, man?” Drake scowled and pushed his tray toward the hungry Prince.
Alyssa quickly put all the clues together. “So that’s why Riley was so sick earlier? She didn’t have a concussion, --” she smiled endearingly, “ -- she just had morning sickness. ... Well, is she okay? Is the baby okay? The fall didn’t hurt them, did it?”
Leo, concentrating on finishing the rest of that meatloaf, languidly shrugged. “I dunno.”
“Well, did they at least give her something safe for her back pain yet?” Alyssa probed further.
Leo shoved another large bite of meatloaf and again answered. “I dunno.”
“Oh my God! Do you know anything?” A frustrated Alyssa finally asked.
With a mouthful of food, Leo tilted his head back in deep thought and replied the best he could, “I know this meatloaf is fucking BOMB, dude. Not too shabby for hospital grub.” He swallowed heartily. “The pudding on the other hand … absolute shit.” He tapped the edge of the plastic container with his plastic spoon as he spoke to it, “Snack-Pak, you disappoint me.”
Desperate for an answer, Alyssa reached out and grasped Leo’s shirt, jerking him closer. “Fuck the snack-pak, Wolfshitz; what about Riley?”
“Riley? Oh, she never disappoints me …” Leo sideways glanced with a frown. “Liam on the other hand ...”
Stunned by this strange man’s erratic and seemingly unhinged behavior, Alyssa shot a wide-eyed glare at Drake, who just shook his head slowly. “Don’t try to make sense of him, Alyssa. Just don’t. You’ll never be able to figure him out.”
Needing to be reassured, Alyssa pulled a cell phone from her back pocket and started furiously shooting off a text to Riley. While her back was turned to the men, Drake couldn’t help but notice the way her ass hugged perfectly in those skinny jeans and soon realized his new body part had showed up in tandem with his sudden arousal. With Leo’s interest remaining focused on the damn meatloaf for the time being, Drake eased a hand under the white sheet covering him and felt around the area below his waist; his breath hitched with relief at the rock-solid bulge that had erupted. Feeling a little giddy that everything was working as it should, the euphoria soon subsided when he caught a glimpse of Leo’s saucy gaze on Alyssa.
Overcome with a strong sense of jealousy over the girl he’d just caught sneaking a peek at his naked self less than five minutes ago, Drake quietly urged through gritted teeth, “Stop looking at her like that, Leo! She’s not some conquest you can just sack for your sick playboy pleasures.”
“Says the guy who caught panty crickets from a $2 hooker and needed a dick transplant.” Leo retorted with a smirk. “Besides, father always said, ‘I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it.” He wagged his tongue in lust. “And I see that.” He motioned to Alyssa’s backside.

First Comes Love
Chapter One
Book: The Royal Romance -Complete AU
Pairing:Liam x Riley/Liam x Madeleine (I promise Maddie’s nice here)
A/N: This will most likely be a mini-series; no more than 5 or 6 chapters. This is loosely based on a movie you might recognize but I’ve tried to make it my own.
Series Premise: It's destiny when two people from different worlds meet. Riley is an up-and-coming wedding planner who finds herself tasked with planning the biggest wedding of her career, only to find out the man she fell for after a brief encounter in NYC is the groom ... and a king.
Trigger Warnings: There is a mention of suicidal ideation, but it’s not part of the plot. Some minor language.
Thank you @burnsoslow for pre-reading. All grammar errors are my own.
It’s been so long since I’ve started a new fic, I don’t even know if I have a taglist that isn’t filled with people who have left or hate me now; I guess I’m starting all over again. If you want tagged, let me know.
New York City
Liam zoned out 2.1 seconds after stepping inside a trendy office on the upper floors of a high-rise building in downtown Manhattan. The pale pink shades of the walls, decorative cushions, window scarfing, and gloss on the lips of his future bride, screamed out bottles of Pepto to the new King -- if only he had some to help with the unease in the pit of stomach.
That morning, a meeting with a highly renowned woman was on the agenda, discussing and presenting potential options for his upcoming nuptials, just weeks away. Even under normal circumstances, a wedding wasn’t exactly something that excited Liam. Not that he was never thrilled for the couple and wished them all the happiness in the world, it just held little importance in his day-to-day life. Weddings served as yet another reminder of what he wanted -- and what he couldn't have.
It was amusing to Liam how he could hold so much power, yet wielded none of it for himself.
This wasn’t how it was supposed to be.
The owner of this particular firm, Jill Gordon, had built quite the reputation as the elite among modern event design, planning, and production companies, with a specialty in weddings. The clientele included a long list of celebrities, politicians, affluent Manhattan debutantes, and occasionally acquired foreign business. The latter is how Madeleine first heard of The Jill Gordon Company while attending the French Ambassador's ceremony several months ago as a representative for Cordonia. With the last stop of their engagement tour in New York City, the future queen was eager to add a visit to her appointment book before they returned home and began the laborious task of planning the biggest wedding in Cordonian history.
Although the palace had more than their fair share of staff with experience hosting monumental events, such as balls, state dinners, and various celebrations, there hadn’t been a royal wedding there in over 20 years. Madeleine thought someone with experience handling grand-scale weddings with a sophisticated flair, who could share their vision and expertise with the staff and take charge of the arrangements, would guarantee everything went off without a hitch.
The King simply went along to get along.
Madeleine and Liam sat across from Jill at her glass-top desk, where a single, lone laptop sat catty-corner on top. While the owner enthused and embellished her business to an attentive Madeleine, Liam focused on the assemblage of black-and-white portraits meticulously placed in neat rows along the wall behind the woman’s desk. It was no doubt a deliberate focal point to showcase the clients her agency had done work for in the past. Maybe others who had previously sat in the same chair he sat in at that moment were charmed with the love and joy captured in each of those images; the twinge in Liam’s heart wasn’t buying into it.
After a lengthy social season and with a lot of pressure from his father and the council, he’d chosen Madeleine to become his queen. At first, he couldn’t stand her -- Hell, maybe he never could. She was pretentious, overbearing, cunning, and frequently insensitive. But somewhere between his coronation and the beginning of the tour, she changed almost as if overnight. At that first stop in Fydelia, he noticed a more relaxed, more thoughtful, and just easier to be around Madeleine. It’s possible she’d finally gotten the coveted prize she had obsessed over long before being dumped after Leo abdicated and could put aside some of that anxiety that brought out the worst in her. But to Liam, it seemed to be a little something more: either the Countess had come to her senses about her standoffish behavior, or maybe it was this new business venture Hana and Rashad talked her into, causing a distraction for the Countess.
Whatever it was, was a welcome change. Liam had grown to respect her, find some common ground, and put away some of that overwhelming dread about spending the rest of his life with her. And while it was no secret between the two that there wasn’t more than friendly affection, duty made no exceptions when it came to their obligation.
For both of them, that's precisely what this was. Now it was time to make the best of it and move forward.
Jill sat forward in her swivel chair with a warm smile. Her hands splayed on the glass top as she spoke in a refined tone. “I have the perfect person in mind to handle such an important wedding, as yours… that is if you choose to go with us.” Jill quickly added, not wanting to scare them off with too much pressure, too soon. She knew adding a royal wedding to her list would attract mass attention in the press and social circles for her business, which meant huge profits.
“Really?” Madeleine crowed, glancing over at Liam, who promptly brandished an over-enthused smile before she turned her attention back to Jill. “Tell us more about her.”
“Elaine has over twenty-three years of experience and is the best in this business, and has served most of our biggest named clients. She recently planned the President’s granddaughter’s wedding.” Jill boasted.
“I heard of that one …” Madeleine swooned before adding, “glamorous, yet sophisticated and classy, which is exactly what we’re looking for. Would she have time to meet with us now?”
Jill frowned. “I apologize, but she’s actually booked for the day, preparing for another wedding this evening. A busy lady that one is. Let me see what her calendar looks like.” She moved the mouse beside her laptop around and clicked a few times, pausing momentarily to scan the screen. “She’s free in the morning if you’re able to return then.”
Liam, who had been studying the glass wall that separated Jill’s office from the reception area and wondering why in the hell anyone would want to be watched while they worked, finally contributed to the discussion for the first time since walking in. “We’re actually leaving first thing in the morning.”
“Not until 9:30,” Madeleine hastily clarified. She continued cheerfully, “Tonight marks the official end of our engagement tour, and we’re wrapping up with a celebration in Midtown. We fly out tomorrow.”
“That's wonderful!" Jill replied. "Perhaps the two of you can stop in before your flight in the morning and meet Elaine personally and see if we can work out an agreement. I don’t think you’ll regret it,” she trilled, able to conceal the shameless desperation behind her words like a true professional.
Well schooled in body language and tone, Liam smirked to himself, able to hear it anyway.

@jerzwriter, I’m truly appreciative that you were able to read this 🥰!!!
I am still reading through TNA book 2, I got pissed off when they brought Addison back from the dead, so I stopped reading 🤣🤣🤣. Like a kid throwing a tantrum that affects nothing 🤣🤣🤣.
Sam lost custody during the divorce and death of his wife Alina. They are actually the biological children of King Liam (my TNA-TRR crossover introduction to writing TRR).
Sam neglected his wife’s clear warning while they were in Milan… and she ended up finding comfort in the arms of another. Liam was just the spare Prince at the time and had no idea that Alina was married. When the confession of her marriage occurred, it was already too late. Leo told Liam not realizing beforehand that his new love was the wife of an American billionaire, on the day he was about to propose marriage to her and introduce her to the then current King and Queen of Cordonia. Before he could propose, Leo abdicated and his entire world crumbled 🥺 (found in my Blue Grotto fics).
Liam came to New York to claim his boys, but Vivian Dalton mediated and an emergency called Liam back to Cordonia, giving Sam more time with the boys. Witnessing his wife’s behavior after killing Anton Edison (The Queen Returns) made Liam very hesitant to have her around children, so this delay provided another means to an end.
As for the unbelievable "soothing", Beyonce can get on her knees, but Sam Dalton can't ...
Although I am writing fiction, my intimacy is never based on nonfiction, and it always makes me pray that much harder for those who have yet to find a partner to connect with on these levels. (*Gives silent prayer... Amen*) You can tell those who have never ventured, and setting limitations for oneself is nothing that I disagree with... but when it comes to speaking against someone else's experience, one should not knock what they have not tried... Best way to miss out on things, for sure! Truly, how can they judge? Meh, easily and incorrectly... but, to each their own I say. I am just not of the group that chooses to limit themselves. (Filtered to the best of my abilities... I do not intend to offend. Proof lies with the person who questions.)
This Virgo ain't no Virgin, lol.
I will definitely tag you in the second part! Thank you again for reading, commenting, tagging, and sharing !!!!!
The Long Goodbye...
Rating: Mature
Warning: Intimacy, the feeling of loss
Word Count: 3500 approximately
The Long Goodbye…
It was time…
He wasn’t ready, although he thought he would be…
Boys, get your scarves, Dahlia and I are going to take you on a stroll through Central Park, and then we are taking a trip together to visit someone special to you that you haven’t met yet. Saying “special” cut like a heated knife through his heart, but it would not take away from the fact that he is someone special to them, as he was to their mother… another bitter fact that Sam had come to accept. It had taken him time, but he knew that brooding over the fact wouldn’t change a single ounce of the truth that had burned in his mind and heart for some time now.
He had given him time to adjust to his request for his sons, but would that time ever be enough? No way that it could ever be. Although they were not his biological sons, they had made him the man he was today. For if they had not been born, he would never have found it within himself to care more about his own life… It had been their births that grounded him. Watching the pain ripping through Alina as she so bravely pushed each one into the waiting hands of a very proud father, eventually cutting their cords after the desired time she’d ask them to wait… the last moments they would be totally dependent on her alone for their survival finally showed Sam exactly what he had been taking for granted.
Looking back on it made things bittersweet. How could the best memories of his life be stained with untruth? But he wouldn’t allow any deception to taint his relationship with his boys, until they could no longer reside with him he would give them his all. So, today would start their long goodbye… Mini trips to fun locations and a walk down memory lane, ending in the very place he’d discovered his wife in the arms of none other than their true father.
Sighing, Dahlia takes his hand and pulls him into a tight hug. “We will get through this, Sam. It won’t be easy, but we will. This doesn’t truly have to be goodbye. I don’t see that you could be kept out of their lives after raising them to be such fine young boys. Their brilliance and love of life is all because of you. Yes, Alina had her share in giving them love early on, but after… Well, love, that was all you!” He bends and rests his chin atop her head, steadying his anxiety in her firm hold of him. She always did have a way of calming the worst storms brewing within him. “Let’s go, we have a lot of activities ahead of us, and our boys are anxious… “
Once at the park, the boys inquired about every scientific thing that they could think of, from the color change in the leaves, to the contrasting landscape, to why they seemed to react differently to the cool weather… Dahlia had on a wool trench, while Sam just had a knit sweater and scarf thrown over his neck and shoulders, but a thin turtleneck was the only protection against the chilling breeze. The boys both had on their fleece lined jackets with hats, scarves and gloves.
It was fascinating to listen to Dahlia explain the body’s mechanisms for regulating body temperature, the boys eagerly giving their own examples, missing the heated looks between the two adults whose bodies were joined at the sides, arms wrapped around each other like anchors to keep them both from losing themselves in these moments… How would their days be without the energy and life the boys brought throughout their days?
Thoughts were broken as they came across a cart vendor selling the most alluring scented hot drinks and pastries. Answering before the boys’ excitement could settle enough to ask, they followed the boys at a much slower pace to the smiling older gentleman who was reciprocating the smiles plastered on the boys’ faces. As they animatedly discussed which sweets would be best and to see if they could get away with more than one, Dahlia held a quick conversation with Sam which ended in a sweet kiss caught by the boys just as it was ending. “Eewwww, more kissing!”
“That’s what love looks like, young men, now… what can I get for you?” This man reminded them of Carter once they gave a closer look, but maybe it was just his gentle nature that made them think of him. “Well boys, since we grossed you out just now, I’m sure you won’t want anything but a hot drink, right?” Sam teased them, knowing that they’d plead for more and it would divert them from witnessing their mature actions. As they protested, Dahlia nudged Sam to give in just this once and let them have their pick of things to their delight. After drinks and goodies were purchased, their walk continued until they reached the pond and park benches.
“Your dad and I will sit here while you two explore this area in front of us, but stay in sight, okay.” The boys head straight for the carousel, and once on, chase each other around it until they find just the right spot. As the carousel turns, intermittently waving and calling out to the boys, Dahlia turns to Sam with puzzlement over his distant expression. “Do we get to discuss more about this? I still don’t know who this mysterious father could even be.”
He finally turns to look at her with tearful eyes. “I know it’s asking a lot, but I don’t think it’s something that I can discuss right now. I just want to fully enjoy the remainder of our days together as a complete family. I will explain more on the last leg of our vacation. I am, however, anxious to meet your sister! Is she anything like you?”
“Way to deflect from unwanted conversation, mister… but, not so much. Riley and I are two very different people. Although, she did marry my brother-in-law not truly knowing anything about him… That is similar to us, but I knew a lot about you… You just didn’t see that knowing everything about me would change things. But to add more, Riley carried a lot of the responsibility for me. Our parents traveled for work and were hardly ever present in my life. My Grandma Addie was my lifeline… but after she passed on, it was pretty much Riley. I went off to college at an early age, and Riley eventually went off to medical school but left to pursue “anything different” to quote her directly. She was pretty much a professional student, but our grandmother always told us that you can’t ever have too many degrees behind your name. Life played out a lot differently for me, but I do have my Master’s in Chemistry, Bachelors in Biochemistry and Psychology.”
Sam barely heard much of what Dahlia was saying, eyes flicking between her and the carousel, taking in how excited and carefree the twins were. This had never been his childhood, groomed from an early age to be in the public eye, from his grandfather’s prominent status to his father’s need to surpass the image of his father. He couldn’t help reliving the day of their birth, changing their diapers for the first time when handling them both on his own… a bet he’d made with confidence to his wife that he could handle the task alone and with precision, but two blowouts proved otherwise. He didn’t think something so small could hold so much, but they did, and it was like a competition brewing between them already, or their first ever prank. His memory of dropping them off for their first day of school brings a smile to his face, but is quickly interrupted by the boys’ screaming as they played tag after having gotten off the carousel and playfully raced back towards the two of them.
Standing, he reaches for her hand with a sad smile which causes her to pause, but she offers him her hand. Pulling her into him for a tight hug, he kisses just behind her ear as he whispers, “I love you, you know that?” As she leans to try to guess his mood, he kisses her on the lips quickly before taking her hands and kissing them before interlacing their fingers together so that they could continue their evening of fun. Each feels Mickey and Mason slide up against their exposed sides, simultaneously ruffling their hair as the boys protest, “Where to next, Dahlia?” She looks at Sam and says, “You boys up to pillaging and plundering a castle?”
“There’s a real castle?”
“Yes, in the center of Central Park. We have to fight off other pirates as we climb to the top. We’ll need to get to the lookout to search for the potential locations the treasure has been buried. Race you there!”
“Ugh, dad! Dahlia’s too fast! Catch her!” He can’t help falling into the feeling of family and gives chase, hearing the boys yell, “faster, faster, she is getting away!” Gaining on her quickly with his long strides, he catches her at the waist and spins her around. As he begins to lower her to the ground, the boys join in hugging her waist and laughing, “You’re fast, but not faster than dad!”
“Yeah, duh!!! Do you see those long legs! That’s why I needed the headstart! But… since you don’t know the way, my little admirals, you’ll just have to stay close and follow me!” His heart pangs with knowing these are the final moments with his family in this way. He is so thankful that Dahlia is taking charge of this adventure in his stead because he is slowly crumbling inside and fighting hard not to fall weak in front of the boys.
How had he taken them for granted all of this time … allowing their grandparents the better part of their time? Arm draped around her shoulder, he quietly thanks her for all that she is doing today and he shows his gratitude later when they are alone, kissing the top of her head. She isn’t used to seeing Sam in such a vulnerable state and begins to worry about him. She won’t probe him further about it now, just keep the boys occupied to give him this bit of instant relief.
Finally making it to the top spiral of the castle’s tower, they make a dramatic scene of spotting creatures and pirate ships sailing towards them in the icy lake below. “We can’t let them get our treasure, Admiral Mason!” “No chance of that, Admiral Mickey! We have Dahlia and dad to fight them off for us!” Sam makes a display of suiting up in armor and weaponry as Dahlia fires shots from the imaginary cannons and yells back for Sam to man the bow chaser. Brandishing his cutlass, he screams out pirate jargon and then throws grenades as he runs to the cannon to finally sink the closest ships. Celebrating in triumph, they all perform a signature dance move and fall down in a fit of laughter.
Once hydrated, they move on throughout Central Park, making their way back towards Hyland Planetarium, the place where Dahlia had taken them on her first attempt at babysitting them for Sam. This would be another painful moment, unable to be hidden. “Dad, why are you so sad?”
Both boys rush to take a hand, somberly gazing up into his eyes awaiting some response.

Sam pulls them into a tight side hug, reassuring them that he isn’t sad (a blatant understatement, but a little white lie told to not dampen their moods), but just remembering their happiest moments together (not a lie, but a mask for what he truly feels). As they make their way to their preferred row of seating, the lights begin to lower. After calling out as many of the ones they recognized in competition, the boys noticed a new set they had never seen before, a mirror image representing identical twins. Sam had arranged for the boys to have their own constellations named after them, so that no matter where they were in the world, as long as they were looking up at the starry night sky, there would always be a constant reminder of how much he loved them even though they may be apart.
“Wow, dad! You really had them named after us?”
“I sure did! I even bought you an advanced telescope so that you can help to discover more… even if they can’t be documented, you boys can have the pleasure of writing your own worlds in the stars above.” Dahlia leaned in close as Sam lifted his arm for her to cuddle into him.The tears in her eyes were apparent, but the boys didn’t catch on due to their excitement of air tracing their very own constellations. Dahlia remembers the exact evening Sam discussed the idea with his mother when they visited her for dinner, and slowly the pieces begin to stitch together. This is what had motivated all of these unexpected yet sentimental acts from Sam.
Vivian had discussed having their ceiling mimic this exact view with Liam, and he’d agreed to have the renovations completed by the time of their arrival. She made sure that he knew the things the boys were accustomed to and had already begun shipping things unable to be found in Cordonia out of her need to have some control in this unfortunate situation. Liam was beyond grateful for every bit of information he had been privy to because this was already going to be a major change… one, not even he could be sure that Riley or Cordonia would be openly receptive to.
One last car ride with Carter… this time, both sit up front, after a dare made by Mickey that Mason wouldn’t be able to convince Sam to allow this to ever happen, and if by some rare chance he did, he would stop teasing him about the bedwetting prank he’d pulled on him, never mentioning it again to anyone. He’d teased Mason long and hard over this, making sure to tell anyone that would listen to his comedic rantings, so there was no way that Mason wouldn’t give this a try. To Mickey’s disbelief, all Mason had to do was ask and Sam gave in with a gentle smile, rustling his curls saying, “Just this once!”
His strength had completely faltered, and there was no way that he would be able to thwart the onslaught of questions the boys would have given on the journey home. They wouldn’t continue to believe that he was the nostalgic father he’d previously explained their prior concerns away with. The moment the town car began its designated route to the airport, Sam sank down into Dahlia’s lap, his head heavy and eyes brimming with the unshed tears he had been willing away the entire day.
As she gently stroked his beard, she softly pleaded for him to talk to her. Knowing the details may allow her to comfort him better, but he delays the conversation by planting kisses on her inner thigh through her clothing, moving to place a kiss on her mound before easing his way up to kiss her with such a needy force that she abandons any and all conversation. Unfastening the button with a mere hook of his finger and quickly dragging the zipper down, he buries his face in her crotch, teasing her clit as his hands squeeze her thighs… slowly dragging her forward to allow him better access.
“Sam, I love the way you feel right now, but what about the partition?” Only stopping to lean backward to lock the window access to the back of the town car, he turns and eyes her with such adoration in his eyes that she feels her wetness increasing.
It will take at least an hour to reach the private hanger, where Sam’s plane has been prepped for him to take his family up for the first leg of their air travel. He’s never taken the boys up but feels that this would be the perfect way to ease them into the much longer flight ahead of them. What better way to show his boys how cool their dad is? Their dad…
Desperately needing to get out of his head, he gave her only one instruction, “Don’t make a sound!” The roughness in his kiss suffocated any spurning her mind insisted upon knowing that the boys could potentially hear or see her intimate behavior, soft whispers and cries escaping her. When Sam desired comfort in this way, she knew that whatever was grating on his mind would unravel through the most intense touch he could offer her, and she could barely contain her anxiety to absorb every ounce of feeling that he would pour into her.
He thought that this was finally smothering the feeling of abandonment that haunted him, but her repetitive whisper, “Oh, baby!”, would remind him of the words that escaped Alina’s mouth as he held her, nestled in his lap with each new baby boy held secure in her arms as he firmly surrounded hers… “Oh baby, look how peaceful and beautiful they are!” The push and pull between reality and memory almost proved to be overwhelming, but he would soon remedy this.
Taking her faster would cause her words to falter, only allowing room for her to attempt catching her breath while moaning her elation, but this would only set him back to square one, answering questions he wanted to avoid. Lapping the remnants remaining of her first orgasm, he unbuttons his shirt, hurriedly ripping it from his torso just before leaning back on his knees to unbuckle his belt.
Dahlia is already upright on her knees in front of him, unzipping his pants and freeing his pulsing erection, straddling it before he’s even removed the belt completely. A pointless idea now abandoned, he steadies her thighs in his grip as she grinds on him, kissing him with as much passionate energy as she felt coursing through her just moments ago. She feels so damned good taking him as he sits idle, enjoying the feel of her using him to bring a climax and hard release that has her trembling around him, embracing him as she pants so heavily that syncope is near.
Sam is still so conflicted in his heart that his release is stunted each time he is on the brink. Only taking complete control will allow him to escape everything consuming him. Dahlia has no recovery time. Sam lifts her and crawls forward pinning her sideways on the seat as he drives into her hard and fast at first, but slows to give him more time. Both watch as he slowly sheaths himself fully within her, withdrawing at the same pace but lifting upward to intensify the feel of him against her clenching walls.
Stretching her each time as his excitement floods into a near-painful hardness, he finally knows that the time has come to empty all thoughts as he forces himself into her not pulling away any longer but pushing with a deep grind that has her clawing and gripping his arms as he hovers close to her. The buildup to their release becomes so powerful there’s a tightness in his chest and he is almost unable to breathe. One arm holds her tightly against him just below her shoulder blades as his other hand cups her ass, lifting her into his deep strokes, whispering for her to get ready, he’s about to flood her.
She holds tightly around his neck as his grind forces her upward, burying her head until she feels she may scream. “Kiss me, Sam!” He can’t have her talking loudly or screaming. She audibly pouts at his withdrawal, her body now torturously aching to be filled. Unable to protest because Sam repositions and fills her mouth instead, “Take it!” He stretches over her and begins to kiss and suck her orgasm from her as she does him, both grinding wildly against each other’s faces.
Release !!! Finally, a delicious release drowned in barely audible hissing and shivering moans… “Mmmmhm, Sam!!” It takes everything within him to remain silent, but he has to maintain this restraint… The boys can’t know why he so freely agreed to Mason’s request, although this wasn’t necessarily the primary reason. Lazily readjusting themselves and their clothing, “Talk later?” Yawning, her only reply, “Mmmm…” Reaching into the console to retrieve a light fragranced cologne bottle, he squirts a few sprays onto their clothing to mask their adult activities before relaxing back into the seat and holding Dahlia against him as they await arrival at the hanger.
Was this long goodbye truly the best idea? Sure, it gives him more time, but it would still come to an end with the same result… letting go… How the hell was he supposed to do this?

Chapter 24 - The Royal Wedding
The joint bachelor party in Paris was a huge success, and what made it even better was that no one had messed anything up. No press intruding, or obnoxious nobles whining about not being invited. It was an intimate affair with the wedding party and their guests. Everyone mostly did their own thing and it was perfect.
Liam and Riley’s wedding was to take place the following day and the head wedding planner was reviewing the final details with the wedding party. “Ok..” Gloria skimmed her list. “So in Lady Riley’s wedding party we have Lady Lilith Nevrakis, Lord Maxwell Beaumont, and Lord Ander Beaumont.” Riley clapped her hands as she threw her arms around her cousin and brother.
“I’m so glad you guys are on my side! Even though I had to steal Max from Liam.” Riley winked at Liam who gave her a cheeky smile.
Gloria made a couple notes and continued. “And in King Liam’s party we have Drake Walker, Leo Rys, and Lord Rashad Faheem.” Gloria cleared her throat. “My, there are a lot of gentlemen in this wedding.”
“Is that a problem?” Riley asked in concern.
Gloria gave her a forced smile. “Other than the fact that it isn’t traditional, as long as it's what you want.”
“Hey.” Leo spoke from his chair in the back of the room, his feet casually propped up on a table. “If my future sis wants her wedding party to be sausage fest, that shouldn’t be a problem.” Max and Ander snickered at Leo.
“Leo!” Liam furrowed his brow as he looked at his brother in disgust. “I mean, you’re right, but why do you have to say it like that?!”
Leo shrugged. “Just callin’ it like I see it! Other than you, Lil.” He winked at Lilith and Drake rolled his eyes.
“Give me a fucking break.” Drake mumbled under his breath.
“Don’t worry Walker, I won’t take your girl.” Leo chuckled.
“Ha!” Lilith laughed loudly as she shoved Leo’s legs off the table. “Like you could.”
“Easy Nevrakis!” Leo chuckled. “By the way, how’s your sister? Text her for me and ask if she’s DTF at the reception tomorrow.”
“Pass.” Lilith rolled her eyes as she climbed onto Drake’s lap.
“We are getting spectacularly off track!” Gloria said with pink cheeks.
“I agree!” Liam looked pointedly at his brother who winked.
Gloria sighed. “Now, we have extensively rehearsed what will happen at the ceremony so I am certain there will not be any mishaps during-.”
“Lightbulb!” Max interrupted with a delighted smile. “What if we do that thing where we switch on some crazy club music and each take turns dancing down the aisle!?”
“Absolutely not!” Gloria shrieked as she looked at Maxwell in disbelief. “This is a royal wedding, not a... youtube video!”
“Aw.” Max sat back and pouted with his arms crossed.
“Hey.” Riley nudged him. “At the reception, you can dance to whatever you want! After our first dance, the ballroom is gonna be lit!”
Gloria rubbed a hand down her face as she made more notes. “Lord help me get through this.. Now, the hair and makeup artists will arrive at 10:00 am, and you should all be ready to head to the cathedral by 1:00. Then the ceremony will start promptly at 2:00.”
“Do you think the hair stylist would dye my hair before the ceremony?” Riley's brother interrupted as he ran his hands through his dark brown hair. “I was thinking about dying it the same color as the bow ties! How freaking cool would it look to walk down the aisle with light pink hair?!”
Max gasped. “Yes! Ander, you genius! I’m in!”
“Hell ya, let’s do it!” Leo reached out to high five Maxwell.
“Dear god, no!” Gloria sighed. “Please.. Refrain from dying your hair until after the wedding.”
“Gloria, you are really harshing the vibe in here, shutting down all our ideas.” Ander said as he pulled out a blunt from his jacket pocket, attempting to light it. “Anybody else need a hit?”
“Pass that shit over here!” Leo called out from the couch.
Gloria was frozen in place watching Ander take a long draw before passing it to the former prince. “WHAT. IS. HAPPENING?!” Gloria screeched.
“I’m so sorry!” Riley put her hands over her face. “Ander, why would you think this is the right time or place to get high?!”
“Someone pass this to Gloria, I think she's broken!” Leo chuckled as he blew out a plume of smoke.
“Ok!” Liam stood up, trying to keep calm. “I think this meeting is over.” He forced a smile. “We will see you all in the morning.”
The wedding party stood up, making their way out of the room. The only person who hadn’t moved was Rashad who was typing furiously on his phone. “Lord Rashad? Lord Rashad?!” Liam cleared his throat and Rashad looked up from his phone.
“Oh, I’m sorry Your Majesty! Were we going to start discussing the wedding details now?”
Liam and Riley looked at each other, bewildered, and Gloria spoke coolly, “Lord Rashad have you not been paying attention this entire time?”
“Oh dear.” Rashad’s face fell. “I apologize. I’ve been hammering out the details on this new project I’m working on, so I-”
“Just.. go.” Gloria sighed and waved him out the door. “I’m going to type everything up for everyone in excruciating detail so we do NOT have to meet like this again.”
Rashad smiled ruefully as he left the room, leaving Lilith, Drake, Liam, Riley, and Gloria behind. Gloria took a deep breath. “I better get busy typing this before a Beaumont dyes their hair or sneaks pot into the wedding cake. I’ll see you all in the morning.”
The four friends were left in the room watching each other in disbelief. “Well, that could have been worse.” Riley said and Liam burst out laughing.
“I don't think it could have.” He chuckled. “I’m so sorry everyone. My brother is.. Well you all know how he is.”
Riley ran her hands through her hair. “Mine too.”
Lilith laughed as she wrapped an arm around Riley, giving her a quick squeeze. “Don’t worry, they'll behave tomorrow. And if I have to threaten them, I will.”
Drake spoke next, “She’s right. You two have enough to worry about. Let us handle the family bullshit.”
“Look at you, taking your best man duties seriously.” Liam nudged Drake with a smile. “Thank you both for everything.”
“Seriously.” Riley smiled. “You two are the best.”
“We know.” Lilith smirked. “Now I’m going to go have a talk with everyone else in the wedding party. During the ceremony, Rashad will not have his cell phone, Ander will not have any weed, Max will not have pink hair, and Leo will not.. do any of the above.”
______________________________________________________
The morning of the wedding, Drake and Liam were getting ready in Liam’s suite. People were scurrying about, fixing Liam’s regalia and making sure their clothes and hair were perfect. Drake waved someone away who was attempting to put concealer under his eyes. “No.. no way in hell.”
She raised her eyebrows and hurried away. The hair stylist was coating Liam’s hair with a thick plume of hairspray and he coughed. “I think.. That’s enough.”
“Yes, Your Majesty!” The man bowed before retreating from the room. Finally the room was quiet and empty and Drake and Liam could relax for a moment.
“Shit, this is worse than your coronation!” Drake chuckled. “At least no one tried to put fucking makeup on me then.”
Liam couldn’t help the laugh that burst out of him. “I’m sorry. Part of me still can’t believe you even agreed to be my best man. You know you’re going to be up there in front of everyone. There will be wedding photographers, paparazzi, nobles, reporters.. Everything Drake Walker hates.”
Drake shook his head with a smile. “Well, it’s not every day your best friend gets married.”
“I suppose I’ll have to return the favor when it’s your turn.”
Drake grinned and said, “ya.”
Liam’s eyes went wide. “Wait, what?!”
“What?”
“You didn’t deny it!”
“What do you mean?”
Liam covered his mouth, trying to hide his smile. “Drake!”
Drake shook his head, his brow furrowed in confusion. “What the hell are you doing right now? Besides acting like Riley?”
“Oh my god..” Liam was still grinning. “Are you going to propose to Lilith?”
“No! Why would you think that?”
“Drake, any time I’ve ever mentioned marriage to you, you nearly vomit in disgust and adamantly deny the prospect of ever settling down.”
Oh shit. Of course Liam knew what he was thinking. That intuitive bastard. “Look, it’s just that the idea.. isn’t.. absolutely horrible anymore.”
“Wow.” Liam was grinning broadly. “Come on.. I’m not going to tease you, I just want you to be honest with me.”
“I am! The idea isn’t.. horrible.”
“Come on, talk to meeee.. I know you didn't buy me anything for my wedding so this can be my present.”
“You’re so fucking stupid.” Drake rolled his eyes. “And I did actually buy you something!”
“A bottle of whiskey doesn't count!” Liam smirked and Drake groaned in response. “Come on.. Let it out!”
Drake remained silent for a minute, and sighed. “Maybe one day..”
“How are you going to do it? When? Where?”
“My god, since when are you so nosy?”
Liam chuckled. “Since my best friend is thinking about proposing to his girlfriend.”
“I never said..” Drake ran a hand down his face. “You know what? Fuck it. Yes, one day I’m gonna do it. There.. Happy now?”
“Very!” Liam grinned and Drake couldn't help but smile.
“Don't say a word about this to anyone.. Especially Riley!” Drake knew Riley would tell Lilith in a heartbeat if she found out. “It’s not going to happen tomorrow or anything. Maybe in a few years.”
Liam shook his head with a good-natured laugh. “I won’t tell her, don't worry. And if you actually need to talk about it, I’m here.”
Drake was thankful for the interruption when Gloria poked her head in to let them know it was time to go. He had barely even admitted to himself that one day he wanted to marry Lilith. Admitting it out loud to another person was painful.
The afternoon flew by and Drake found himself beside the altar in an ornate cathedral reserved only for royal functions. His heart was pounding as he stood in front of hundreds of people who he only imagined were judging him. Liam, decked out in his regalia, looked cool as a cucumber like always. Although Drake knew from speaking with him before the ceremony that he was a nervous wreck. Leo and Rashad were standing to the left of Drake and thankfully neither had pink hair, smelled like pot, or had their cell phone out so that was one less thing to worry about.
Seated a couple rows from the front, he saw his sister, Savannah, smiling brightly at him. Drake tried to hide it, but he couldn’t help but smile back. He wasn’t even sure if she was going to make it to the wedding until this morning, and this was the first time he had seen her in years. She smirked and mouthed ‘looking good’ and he rolled his eyes. She always teased him when he dressed up.
Some classical music Drake didn’t recognize started playing and the doors at the end of the insanely long aisle were thrown open. The first one down the aisle was Maxwell, who had a mischievous grin on his face. That is, until he passed by Bertrand in the aisle and immediately straightened his posture and masked his expression into an emotionless robot. Drake was actually thankful for Bertrand for once. Ander was a ways behind him, looking slightly terrified. Drake had to stop himself from chuckling. Lilith had definitely threatened him. The next person down the aisle caused his heart to skip a beat. Clad in a baby pink lace and chiffon gown, was the most beautiful woman in the world. Her gorgeous red hair was partially tied back in loose curls that fell across her shoulders. Drake met her eyes as she continued making her way to the front of the room, clearly trying her hardest not to smile at him. She glanced over to Drake, briefly checking him out in his tux, then stared straight ahead, dutifully playing the role of maid of honor to the future Queen.
Drake, however, didn’t give a shit about how much he was ogling her. His eyes never left her as she took her place next to the altar. Leo elbowed him and whispered, “keep it in your pants, man.”
Drake fought the urge to say something snarky back. Not the time.. Maybe later. Ya.. later he was going to knee Leo in the balls. He could make it look like an accident.
Everyone in the crowd stood as the music changed, and Drake saw Liam’s breath quicken. Riley emerged on the arm of her father, looking every bit the Queen of Cordonia, covered in diamonds and silk, complete with a tiara. Drake had always heard that in a wedding you should watch the groom's face to see their reaction, and that’s what he did. Liam took a deep breath, before dabbing his eyes with a gloved hand.
It was amazing to see how love can change a person. Sure Liam had always been a romantic, but never did he let his emotions show to the public. Now he was actually tearing up watching the woman he loved walk down the aisle toward him. Drake couldn't help but think about how his own wedding would be. If he was the groom watching Lilith walk towards him. He looked over and Lilith was smiling at him, before turning her attention back to Riley. He wondered if she was thinking the same thing, and a giddy smile broke out across his face.
The ceremony was extremely long, and several people cried during Liam and Riley’s wedding vows. Maxwell was nearly sobbing when Riley thanked him personally for introducing her to Liam in the first place. Drake couldn’t deny that even he felt touched by it all. Once Riley and Liam were pronounced husband and wife, Drake took Lilith’s arm and they walked back down the aisle together.
She spoke softly, “how you holding up, best man? Ready to run yet?”
Drake chuckled quietly, “It’s not that bad.”
Lilith smiled. “I saw you tearing up at their wedding vows, you softie.”
Drake turned to her with his mouth agape, speaking a little too loudly. “Did not!” Lilith grinned as they nearly reached the exit of the cathedral. Drake whispered. “You’re one to talk. I saw you sniffling. You’re not as hard as you think you are.”
Lilith bumped his shoulder with hers when they finally reached the exit. Ander and Leo were next, then Maxwell and Rashad behind them. They continued until they reached a private room where the wedding party could relax.
“I swear to god, if someone doesn’t let me take a hit I’m gonna lose it!” Ander took a deep breath. “I was sweating like a pig up there!”
“Just.. go to another room to do it.” Gloria sighed, looking defeated as she waved him away. “A private room and lock the door!”
“Wait up!” Leo chased after him, pausing to clap Liam on the shoulder. “Congrats bro!”
Rashad pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and began furiously scrolling through his emails in the corner of the room.
“Guess that just leaves the VIPs!” Max said as he threw his arms around Riley and Liam. “Congrats you guys!”
“Thanks Max!” Riley leaned her head on his shoulder with a smile before taking Liam’s hands. “We're married! We did it!!”
Liam pulled her to him and gave her a searing kiss, causing her to squeal in surprise. “I love you so much,” he said smiling at her as if she hung the moon in the sky.
“I love you too baby!” Riley beamed right back at him. “Now, let’s get the rest of the formal shit out of the way so we can party!”
“Wooooo!” Max yelled and Gloria closed her eyes, sighing in exasperation.
“I'll check and see if Ander and Leo are ‘lit’ enough to head to the reception.” Gloria pinched the bridge of her nose as she left the room.
“Why do I feel like we hired a female Bertrand to coordinate our wedding?” Riley chuckled.
“That is.. disturbingly accurate.” Max shuddered.
“Hey.” Riley took Liam’s hands and smiled at everyone. “You guys ready to tear it up at the reception?!”

21 OTP Asks (link is in the post I tagged you in today) I would like answers for both Liam and Drake plz...! :D 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 20, 21
Thanks for the ask @karahalloway! This was really fun to do! I’ll do Liam first, since he was my first love in TRR.
Liam and Riley
What is your favorite AU/prompt idea/trope for your pairing? Favorite troupe for them is love at first sight. My favorite AU with them right now is probably the sweetness and innocence of Savage Love Liam. Although, I have a new series in the works and it will be the first one written from Liam’s POV, so who knows?
Do you prefer canon ideas or do you have your own headcanons for them? My own. Canon just leave so much to be desired. It’s what brought me looking for, then writing, fan fiction in the first place.
Favorite canon moment of them? Listen. There are so many, but on the honeymoon when Liam tells her she looks like a goddess worthy of worship and says, “If you want me on my knees, just say so.” Made me want to climb through the screen and take him up on that offer.
Least favorite canon moment of them? I don’t think I’m alone saying that it’s hands down the coronation scene where she gets dragged out and he chooses Madeleine instead. It’s literally what made me decide to pay attention to Drake in book 2.
Favorite headcanon trope/idea? (Your own or someone else’s) Probably the idea that, because of the way he was raised (the way relationships work in royal marriages), the overall commonplaceness (apparently) of the Cordonian Arrangements and his belief that he would marry for duty and not love, he is much more open to, and accepting of, a polyamorous situation. This way, he still gets to marry for love. He isn’t afraid of compromises.
Also, that they had sex in that hot tub damn it.
What made you decide to ship them? Liam’s overall sweetness, somewhat innocence and (at least the way I played/interpreted them) fairly submissive diamond scenes. Who doesn’t want to be worshiped and adored? His love is so damn pure!
Favorite genre for them? (Angst, fluff, etc.) Definitely fluff. I do love the fluffy scenes with them in Hinge. So much.
Moving onto the next pairing……
Drake and Riley
What is your favorite AU/prompt idea/trope for your pairing? Favorite troupe for them is the whole marshmallow thing. You know, the strong, silent type. Grumpy on the outside, mushy on the inside. Alpha male vibes, but vulnerable to her and only her. I mean…yeah. Favorite AU for them right now is Savage Love (But Complicated is a close second.)
Do you prefer canon ideas or do you have your own headcanons for them? Copying answer from above: My own. Canon just leave so much to be desired. It’s what brought me looking for, then writing, fan fiction in the first place.
Favorite canon moment of them? Again, so many. Believe it or not, I have yet to do a full play through with Drake. I ignored him in book 1 on my first play through. After getting to know him as a LI in book 2, I replayed book 1 and took all the diamond scenes/flirty options with him. But I have never turned down Liam’s proposal. So I only have gotten to romance him for TRR 1 and 2 (I plan another play through with him soon though.) I think I fell in love with him during the Italian Restaurant scene in book 2.
Least favorite canon moment of them? So, I married Liam and tried to flirt with Drake during the volleyball game on the honeymoon and it didn’t work! He didn’t get flustered like he in every other moment MC flirts. I died a little.
Favorite headcanon trope/idea? (Your own or someone else’s) as @karahalloway has already stated, it’s hands down that Drake is a member of the king’s guard. I’ve given him the rank of captain. There were so many seeming hints in the books, that I really thought that’s where they were going with it. Ball dropped, Pixleberry, ball dropped.
What made you decide to ship them? All those little moments where it became apparent that he had real, deep feelings for her but struggled to hide them and suffered in silence because of his friendship with Liam and his own insecurities about not being good enough. Aagh.
Favorite genre for them? (Angst, fluff, etc.) Angst. And I’m not sure why. @karahalloway has said that I enjoy making Drake suffer and if you’ve read most of my fics, you know it’s true. I want him to have the happily ever after, but he has to suffer for it first, apparently. Maybe because it was that suffering that made me sympathetic to him in the first place or maybe it’s all part of that vulnerable only to the woman he loves thing. There is something so endearing about seeing his vulnerable side, and to show that to the reader, I have to make him suffer.
Random Note: I think the reason I always married Liam in game, even though I felt like I really couldn’t choose, is in part, pettiness. So many people tried to stop me. That’s it. No deeper reason.

Hey there. Can you write a story where Liam would be shot instead of drake... Pweety please
I hate it that anyone has to be shot but let's see what I can do with the end of TRR Book 2. (Honestly, I wish it had been the chosen love interest to save Riley just for the drama, LOL). Sorry it took so long for this drabble, nonny. Sickness and all kept interrupting my writing.
*** Trigger Warning: violence, blood, gunshots***

And Time Stopped
It had been one of the first balls Liam had ever truly enjoyed. After the hellish tour with Madeleine as his fiancee and discovering that his father was behind nearly destroying his chance to be with Riley, he felt like he could actually enjoy the life of a king.
He smiled warmly at Riley surrounded by their closest friends. He didn't know how he could have made it without each one of them. Those four had given him everything he had ever wanted. They used all their talent, their time, to help him achieve his happily ever after.
They had become his family.
His heart beat faster when Riley blew him a kiss. The plans he had for the two of them now that they were engaged filled him with such excitement. Such contentment. For once, his life was finally all he had hoped it could be.
As he lifted his champagne flute in a toast to the love of his life, his world began to fall apart.
*****************
Chaos erupted in the darkness. Screams rent the air while the sounds of gunshots rang out. When the lights came back on, Liam tried to comprehend what was going on.
His guards were rushing around, trying to make their way to him and his parents.
"Protect Riley!" He ordered.
Ducking from a masked man's attack, Liam's years of self defense kicked in. Muscle memory took over and allowed him to focus on the safety of those around him.
His nobles were trying to escape. Many were knocking others over in their haste while fighting off the attackers. Some were losing their battle.
Riley stood alone a few feet away as if frozen. Somehow during the melee she had become separated from their friends. Her eyes were wide as she saw Liam being attacked. She seemed to shake herself out of her fear and took a few steps forward to try and help him.
Another masked man stepped between them and lifted a pistol.
The world slowed around Liam when he saw who was in the attacker's sights. His guards took over fighting the men that he had been wrestling with. He wrenched free of Bastien's grip and did the only thing he could.
He dove into Riley.
Two shots exploded at the same time. While the couple crashed to the floor, the shooter crumbled in a lifeless heap. Bastien had killed him.
"Liam!" She cried, touching his face. "Are you hurt?"
He breathed through the pain now spreading through his body. His own concern for her was stronger than the agonizing sensation in his back as he lifted up off of her.
"Were you hit?" He asked, eyes scanning her for any possible wound.
"I'm fine." Tears filled her eyes as she wrapped her arms around him.
Liam sucked in a painful gasp when her hand brushed his back.
Riley stilled at the warm blood she felt coating her fingers.
"No!" She cried out. "No. No. No."
She scrambled out from under him.
"Bastien!" She screamed when she saw the blood saturating Liam's blue coat.
The guard rushed over and attempted to see where the wound was.
"It's to the right." Liam struggled to say.
The rush of adrenaline that had flooded his body to save his love was gone, leaving him light headed.
He turned to see Riley ripping the bottom half of her gold dress. She balled up the material and pressed it to his back.
Bastien called for an ambulance while she tried to stop the bleeding.
"Riley?" Liam said softly.
She leaned down closer to hear him better.
He hated seeing the tears falling from her lovely eyes.
"You're going to be okay." Her voice trembled. "We'll get you to the hospital and--"
"My love." He tried to smile at her. "All that matters is that you're safe."
She pressed a tender kiss to his cheek. "I am thanks to you." Her breath hitched as she fought back her panic over his bleeding. "I love you so much, Liam."
"I love you too." His eyes drooped closed.
A deep darkness began to engulf him.
"Please, stay with me." She whimpered. "Please. I can't lose you now that we finally get to be together. Please, live for me."
He wanted to. He wanted to tell her that he would do all he could to live the life he dreamed of. He wanted to wrap her in his arms and protect her from everything that brought her sorrow and pain.
He simply didn't have the strength to reassure her.
Her pleas faded into nothingness as he succumbed to the darkness.
****************
A steady beep was the first sound he heard.
A few voices murmured then quieted.
Liam cracked his eyes open. The hospital room he was in had only one light on. He first noticed Bastien and a few more guards by the door and windows.
He next saw Drake sitting in a chair, bent forward with his head in his hands. Maxwell was nervously pacing. Hana stood by a window looking out at the sun rising.
And then he saw his Riley.
She was still in her torn gold gown. Her elegant up do was mussed and falling form it's pins. Dried tear paths lined her cheeks. Her eyes were swollen from all the crying she must have done.
She had pulled a chair up to his bed and was holding his hand. Her thumb brushed over his knuckles every so often as she watched his heartbeat on the heart monitor.
Her eyes darted to his face when she felt his fingers move to intertwine with hers.
"Liam?" She smiled at seeing his bright blue eyes once more. "Liam!"
Their other friends jerked up when they heard her say his name.
He weakly squeezed her hand. "Hello, my love."
As everyone exclaimed around him, he knew that the individuals in his room would once more help him get through this next trial he was about to face.
And he couldn't be more thankful he had every single one of them.

Following choicesfandomappreciation's idea, I'm asking: ✨What's a fic you've posted you wish you could breathe life into again and have people talking about it? (or simply a fic you wish got more credit). Because I think they could use some love :)
Hey, anon! Thank you so much for directing this towards me, and special thanks to @choicesfandomappreciation for bringing support and encouragement to writers this week.
I have a lot of unfinished series and miniseries that I wish I could revisit. But there are a few fics that instantly come to mind that I don't necessarily want more credit for, but I would love to rework them and edit them into a better version of themselves to bring back.
Storm (OH)
This was one of my very first attempts at Open Heart fanfiction, and I discovered 2 things: I personally will never use my own name again (some do this, and that is absolutely fine! For me? I couldn't take it seriously lol), and I really enjoy writing medical dramas. Based on a true story, the fic was very messy, flashing-back all over the place, and... it was long with an ending that not many people understood
Summary Nurse Emily (so original) has a post-section patient who is rapidly declining, stumping the entire team; the OB has turned the case over to the hospitalist on-call who turns out to be *drumroll* Dr. Ethan Ramsey; but what you don't know is that Ethan and Emily had a night together, getting to know each other at a bar the previous night... now, they're working together.
The Stopover (TNA/TRR)
Ugh, I wish I kept this one up, but I was so young in the fandom, and so easily influenced. This was a crossover: TNA and TRR. This was right after Book 1 ended, and I was in love with Mr. Robin Flores, and the number one complaint I heard at that time about Robin was, "He looks like Bradshaw."
Summary Brynn (MC) marries Robin and during the reception, Robin finds out the truth: she hooked up with Sam. So, they're going on their honeymoon to Greece, not exactly talking to each other when all of a sudden, they have to make an emergency landing in this tiny Mediterranean country called Cordonia. Prior to this, the news had just broke that Bradshaw (who looks like Robin) was banished AND that the twins' mother is the nanny (Brynn couldn't understand the language, but nodded when she was accused of being "the nanny of the twins"... because she was). In a case of mistaken identity, Robin is seized and gets to meet none other than King Liam Rys... because that makes TOTAL sense. Sam has to come bail them out and acts like a total Dalton...
The Missionary's Daughter (TRR)
Okay, so actually... I might come back to this series someday on my own because I actually loved this story in my head. Talk about a grumpy sunshine story! And what I loved about this OC is in my head, she's curvy (FC Whitney Thompson. Also, a little tidbit: My MC for Open Heart's name was Margot Hughes (this was going to be part of her story)
Summary Drake just watched his best friend marry the love of his life, but she has a secret: she's pregnant with his baby. Hitting an all time low, he turns to drugs and alcohol... and then he meets Margot Hughes, a American missionary's daughter who has compassion on him. But when he starts to fall for her, some of his secrets begin to come to light. And when his world comes crashing down around him, even Drake can't protect her from his sins.
Thanks for the Ask! 🥰

Never Gonna Let You Go
Series: Came for the Prince, Fell for the Lord
Book: This fic is set in The Royal Romance Book 2, after MC's return to court and before the engagement tour.
Pairing: TRR MC Kate Brookes × Maxwell Beaumont
Summary: Kate and Maxwell get some time alone, and they talk about their relationship.
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1,148
Author's Note: I've been stuck on this fic for months, but I finally got time and inspo for finishing it! And I thought it'll be cool to post on Valentine's Day because why not. Hope y'all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
Disclaimer: All characters belong to Pixelberry. I'm just borrowing them for the story.
P. S. This is also a submission for @choicesmonthlychallenge Valentine's Event: To be or Not To Be; prompt: to be - 'The course of true love never did run smooth.'
Maxwell is sprawled along on the grass, with Kate lying against his chest, as he plays with her hair. After a few blissful moments, Maxwell breaks the silence.
"We really shouldn't be here, Kate."
Kate pouts. "Aw, spoilsport."
"And here I thought you were supposed to be the responsible one." Maxwell laughs. "I'm just trying to be careful."
Kate's eyes widen in mock-surprise. "Maxwell Beaumont being careful? Never thought I'd see the day. Besides, everyone else is at the country picnic. No one's gonna find us here."
Both of them wanted to get some time alone, so Kate faked being sick and Maxwell volunteered to stay with her.
"I know, but still, I can't help but worry that we'll get caught."
"If you keep worrying like this, we won't be able to enjoy the little time we have together, Max." Kate says with a sad pout, looking at him with puppy dog eyes.
Maxwell relents, " Okay, okay, no more worrying. Let's just stay like this for a while, I feel peaceful right now."
After a few minutes, Maxwell says, "Kate, can I ask you something?"
She smiles. "Of course, Maxwell."
"When did you fall for me?"
"Huh?"
"I asked, when did you fall for me? There must have been some incident that made you see me in a different light, right?"
Kate thinks hard, biting her lip. "I don't know when exactly I fell for you, Max. It just happened somewhere along the way, I guess." She pauses for a moment. "But I do remember when I realised you mean a lot to me."
Maxwell looks intrigued. "Tell me more."
Kate continues, "Remember the Coronation Ball?"
"Of course. You almost left Cordonia." He says sadly.
Kate fidgets with her skirt, not meeting his eyes, "Well, during the ball, before the whole Tariq fiasco, Liam asked me to accompany him to the hedge maze, so we sneaked out of the ball together. There, he confessed that he's in love with me, and that he was going to propose to me that night."
Maxwell lets out a soft sigh. "And? What did you tell him?"
Kate answers, "I didn't. Liam stopped me before I could say anything, and said that I needn't say anything then, that he knows it's a little soon, and told me that he was willing to wait." She continues after a moment. "I should have been overjoyed about it, because this is why I came to Cordonia, right? But I was not at all happy. I felt terrible, like I'd been given a prison sentence. I felt trapped. I didn't realise why exactly I felt like that until later that night."
"When the photos of Tariq and I were released, and the King's Guard escorted me to the airport, I wasn't worried that I wouldn't be Queen, or that my reputation had been tarnished. The only thing that was going on in my mind was that I'd never be able to see you, ever again. When I saw you at the airport, I was so happy that I wanted to fling myself into your arms and never let go." Her eyes shine with tears. "That's when I realized that you mean so much to me, Maxwell. You aren't just a friend to me, you are so much more."
Maxwell didn't think it was possible to fall for her more, and yet, there he was, absolutely captivated by her. He pulls her to him and holds her tightly. "Now that I know, I'll always be with you, Kate."
"Right back at you, Max." She smiles and sinks into his embrace. "Now it's your turn."
"What now?"
Kate laughs. "I mean, it's your turn to say when did you fall for me?"
"Oh!" Maxwell turns bright red.
Kate giggles. "Are you blushing, Maxwell?"
"No I'm not!" He says indignantly, blushing even more.
"You're cute when you blush, you know. Even cuter than usual."
"Kate! You aren't helping." In spite of it, he smiles.
"Okay, okay, I'll stop teasing you, even though it's fun. You still haven't answered my question."
Maxwell looks bashful. "I've always known you're special, Kate. You are sweet, nice, charming, not to mention pretty. I liked you from the moment we met. Though I invited you to Cordonia for Liam's sake and for the good of House Beaumont, it was partly because I wanted to get to know you more as well, since you seemed cool.
I realised my feelings for you at the Coronation Ball, just like you did. Remember when we decided to take a breather and leave the ball for a few minutes? That's when I had time to think. That was the day, after all those events of the social season we'll get to know if you'd become Queen or not. On one hand, if you did become Queen, we won't be able to spend time together. Then again, if you didn't win, you'd probably leave Cordonia. I didn't know what to think. I just assumed that I was afraid of losing our friendship. But when I saw you dancing with Liam - him looking at you like you're his dream come true, you smiling back at him like he's the only person in the world - I felt different. Angry, mad, sad, desperate. Jealous. That's when I admitted to myself that I actually have feelings for you, and they're definitely not just platonic.
But I had to keep my feelings hidden for both your sake and for House Beaumont's sake. And for Liam too. I didn't want to ruin everything. But I suppose the truth always comes out somehow, and now I actually am happy that I don't have to pretend anymore."
Kate looks at him wide-eyed. She felt utterly sad at the thought of how heartbroken Maxwell would've been when he saw her and Liam together. She buried her face deeper into his chest, trying to put all her feelings into a hug, comforting him wordlessly.
"I'm so sorry, Maxwell. I should've told you sooner." Kate says sadly.
Maxwell lifts her chin up, "Hey, look at me. It's okay. All that matters now is that we both know, and can tell each other how we feel."
"And how exactly do you feel about me?" Kate asks, with a smirk on her face.
"You're way too cheesy that it's almost unbearable, but it's exactly my kind of cheesy, so I don't mind." Maxwell says with a chuckle.
"Hey!" Kate shoves him.
"Ouch! Just kidding! You know how I feel about you, Kate." His face turns serious. "And whatever happens, I'm never gonna let you go, okay?"
Kate smiles, "Okay. Thank you, Max, for always being there for me." She kisses him softly. Maxwell smiles and wraps his arms around her, holding her close.
Though their future seemed uncertain, they knew they both could face anything, as long as they had each other.

There is love... There is pain
Summary- TRR Book 2 Chapter 1.
Liam x Mc(Riley Brooks)
Coronation was supposed to be the beginning of their happily ever after, but fate had other plans. Tonight was not different from others, Liam’s mind was still running miles per minute, who could do something like this to her.... to them. 3 weeks and yet there was no answer. Nothing made sense, she was here at his place, he should have been able to keep her safe, but he failed. He’ll never forget how sad and disappointed Riley looked when Madeline’s name escaped his lips. But that was for the best he thought, I had to do it to keep her safe. He knew every action has consequences, he just hoped that she didn’t hate him for his. Now almost 3 weeks later, he laid on his bed with Riley’s photo in his hand, Liam couldn’t sleep and he was anxiously waiting for the night to end. Tomorrow would be the start of engagement tour, as much as he was dreading his engagement with Madeleine, he was also happy that he could see Riley again. His thoughts eventually faded as sleep finally consumed him.
Next morning Liam woke up earlier than usual, completed his morning routine and went to his study to do all the works he wouldn’t be able to do during the tour. Finally it was time to go to Fyledia, Madeline was not travelling with him as she went ahead of everyone to help her mother prepare of the arrival of the court. Soon his car was pulling in front of grand estate of Fyledia, press was swarmed at the front, Liam just smiled and gave them a little nod, he noticed Madeleine at the front door, she was the last person he wanted to see right now but still schooled his expression to a polite smile and lightly pecked her cheek, they both smiled at the camera and went inside where half of the court was already present
Once smiled Madeleine smiled coyly at him and whispered
“Well that was not bad, I thought I’ll have clean up your mess..... again”
Liam whispered back
“Let’s get over with today so we don’t have to face each other again for rest of the day”
Madeline laughed as if he said something funny, then without a word she linked her arm through his and they both started mingling, Liam had a polite smile on his face but the waiting game was becoming too much painful, he kept glancing at the door waiting for Riley’s arrival, Madeleine discreetly tightened her hold, Liam glanced at her and she slightly nodded towards the nobleman standing in front of him.
Madeleine- If you both will excuse me, I have to meet with some associates.
Saying this she went to other side of the room when Liam turned after talking to the nobleman he turned to walk towards Madeline when he noticed Riley, even though her back was facing him he knew it was her, he would recognize her anywhere, as he went closer he heard Madeleine say "But I'm sure I'll be far too busy to follow the news on that. What with King Liam and I being very much engaged. Isn't that right, darling?" That's when she turned towards him and Liam's breath hitched, she was looking absolutely breathtaking in her midnight blue dress she looked longingly at him and whispered “I missed you”, seeing the pain and sadness in her eyes Liam wanted nothing more than to hold her tight and tell her how much he loved her, that she’s the one but he knew now was not the right time so he just gave her a small smile and told her he missed her too, he wanted to say more to her at least to tell her to meet him later so he could explain himself “We need to---” he started to speak but Madeline again interrupted him by putting her hand on his arm and said “We need to see rest of our guests, sweetheart”. Madeleine looped her arm in Liam’s and leaned in to kiss him on his cheek “Being the royal couple of the hour has its obligations." Liam was aware that she was right so he didn't say anything except for "Ah right". Riley clearly wanted to say something else, but Maxwell stopped her and she allowed herself to be escorted to back of the room, both Liam and Riley moved in opposite direction, when he looked back he noticed her talking with Kiara and Penelope. “I have to find a way later to talk to her” he thought to himself, and finally moved to the head table with Madeleine.
After the dinner and a long not so interesting conversation with Adelaide Liam was back in the room assigned to him, he unbuttoned his suit jacket and went out in the balcony of his room waiting for Riley to come, hoping she got his message. The cool breeze of the night calmed him down. Soon he heard a light thud on other side of the balcony, he turned and came face to face with Riley, he rushed forward and sweep her in his arms, Riley returned his embrace holding him tightly before her lips found his. Liam groaned as he kissed her back deeply, pouring all his love, affection and longing in the kiss. few moments later he gently pulled away looking directly into her eyes, which was glistened with unshed tears but there was a genuine smile on her face
Liam- I never want to stop.
Riley- But.....?
Liam- But we need to talk
There was so much to say, so much explanation to give. Liam shook his head lightly to clear is head.
Liam- It’s just..... Damn Lady Riley, how I’he missed you.
Riley- I missed you too. I thought I might never see you again.
Anger coursed through Liam’s veins thinking of all the emotional pain she was going through and he made no attempt to hide it.
Liam- I’d never let that happen.
Riley nodded slightly, she looked almost hesitant to ask something, Liam knew what it was but waited for her to speak
Riley- Are you going to ask me if it’s true?
Liam gently took her hands in his own.
Liam- You and Tariq? I don’t need to ask that it was a set up.
Riley- Really? Then... why....?
Liam- Why did I choose Madeleine?
Liam started to pace around the balcony. Riley slightly nodded waiting for him to continue
Liam- Someone was willing to go great lengths to set you up... To put you in a compromising position, to invade your privacy. To put you at risk. Drake told me about the lock on your door. Someone is determined to prevent you from becoming queen, and they seem to have considerable resources and access to the royal court.
He once more took her hand in his once more and brought it to his lips tenderly kissing her wrist.
Liam- And if I had stood up there and chosen you, Riley... from then on, you’d be in danger. I wish I could say that palace guards would protect you, but the truth is they had already failed at the country estate. The entire building was meant to be secured. When I think that someone who meant you harm and ruin was able to manipulate the situation so meticulously...Lady Riley, it terrifies me that they could have set you up for worse. I never told you about my mother.
Riley- You told me she died when you were young...
Liam- The details of her death were kept secret from the public, but she was poisoned....
Riley wrapped her arms around him, he hugged her back finding solace with her in his arms.
Riley- Oh Liam, I am so sorry you had to endure that
Liam- If I lost you, Riley... I will regret what I did at the Coronation for rest of my life because it hurt you. And I’m sorry that it happened as it did, but in that moment, the only way that I could think of to keep you safe was to make them think they’d won
Riley- I understand Liam, but you do realize that last few weeks have been torture for me, right?
Liam sighed deeply
Liam- Riley.... I’m so, so sorry. I know this must have been miserable for you.
He pulled away just enough so he was facing her, his hands were still encircling her waist and he lightly pecked the tip of her nose.
Liam- In order for the entire gambit to work, it had to truly appear that I believed the photos and had severed ties with you, and trust me when I say that I have thought about you every single minute of every single day since we parted.
Riley smiled lightly hearing him and said in a teasing tone.
Riley- Well, it’s some consolation.
Liam chuckled and then leaned forward to kiss her, but Riley immediately pulled away, a distraught look on her face.
Riley- We... we can’t, you are still engaged to Madeleine, aren’t you? Even if it’s not what’s in your heart.
Liam- You’re right, but Madeleine and I have a understanding. She knows I am not in love with her.
Riley couldn't stop the shock spread on her face
Riley- She does?
Liam- Yes and she simply doesn’t care.... You don’t know Madeleine very well, but she’s uncompromisingly practical and cunning as she is calculating. That’s the entire reason I picked her actually.
Riley- What do you mean?
Liam- The night before the Coronation, she came to my room and proposed an arrangement. She told me it was obvious that I was in love with you.... but regardless of my feelings, she would be best queen for Cordonia. I could have the best of both worlds if I picked her. She’d be perfectly happy to let me continue our relationship.... as long as she got to be queen.
Riley- Don’t you that it’s suspicious?
Liam- I do.. but there’s little I could do without proof. All I could think at that moment was to keep you in my life
Riley let out a shaky breath before speaking
Riley- So what does that make me..... Your mistress, the other woman, a scandal waiting to happen?
Liam- You are none of those Lady Riley, you’re the love of my life.
Riley- But, what about future?
Liam- I got engaged to Madeleine to buy us time. Her hope is that nothing changes I end up marrying her. But my hope is that we’re able to uncover the traitor against you and then...
Riley- Happily ever after?
Liam- Precisely. But we’ll need to be careful... very careful. Before I met you my greatest fear was disappointing Cordonia and my family. BUt now... My greatest fear is that you’d come to some harm because of me. And Ill to anything, I have to if it means stopping that from happening. For your safety it must appear that we’re no longer involved.
Riley nodded in understanding.
Riley-But for tonight?
She looked up at him and Liam allowed himself a small smile
Liam- For tonight...
Riley leaned forward and kissed him with everything in her, Liam kissed her back, deepening the kiss until they both were breathless he then pulled back and started laying soft kisses on her neck.
Riley bit her bottom lip to stop the moan that threatened to spill. She nibbled at his earlobe before whispering.
Riley- I love you so much my king
Liam pulled back once more, his eyes full of love and desire.
Liam- I love you too my queen
He pushed her back with his body until her back was touching the pillar in his balcony. His hands caging her there as he laid kisses on her shoulder, Riley’s hands slipped beneath his white shirt eliciting a moan from him. She shivered slightly when cool air hit her bare skin as Liam slowly undressed her, he laid kisses on her shoulder as he dropped the strap of her bra to the side.
They both were startled when they heard shout from party goers. They both stayed their calming down their heavy breathing. Riley put her head on his chest taking in the smell his cologne.
Riley- I should go, we can’t be seen together.
Liam reluctantly pulled away from her.
Liam- I know.
He kissed her one more time, his lips lingering on hers, Riley slowly pulled her clothes back on and hugged him one last time
Liam- I promise everything will be fine, we’ll be together.
Riley- I know. Good night LIam
Liam- Goodnight Riley
After that Riley went back the way she came much to Liam’s dismay. He watched her until she was out of her sight, then sighed deeply. “How did his become so complicated” he wondered before going back inside his room. He laid on his bed, and Riley was the last thing on his mind before he dozed off in a peaceful slumber first time in 3 weeks

For the first time, the walk to whatever room she’d be meeting Liam in was a complete dread. She hated the feeling of closing the gap between them knowing she had one mission, to save the love of her life with a lie. Her only hope was maybe he was questioning those ridiculous photos and she could maybe use that to ease into their separation. She reached his door and easily walked in. Liam was leaning against the open door frame leading to the balcony of his room, his eyes were glued outside, clearly anticipating Riley’s hopeful arrival.
Riley stood with her backside against the nearly shut bedroom door and closed it loudly gaining his attention. Liam whipped his head in her direction only to be filled with relief and joy at finally getting a chance to be alone with her. He raced across the room and grabbed her, holding her as tightly as he could, and with the easiest smile she’d ever seen on him, he kissed her with all his might. Riley shut her eyes tight and allowed the kiss, returning it with as little as she could, knowing it would be the last.
Liam pressed his forehead to hers, “Thank God you’re here. Riley, I’ve missed you so much. Please.. please forgive me, my love. I... I owe you so much, please give me a chance to make things up to you.”
“Make things up to me? Aren’t you wondering if the scandal is true? Aren’t you... aren’t you going to ask.. if the pictures are real?” Riley knew she was on borrowed time, but she couldn’t yet rip that bandaid, she hated herself, but she couldn’t stop from hearing him out.
“Of course not, I know those photos were a setup, which is why it was the catalyst to everything that happened that night. I’ll regret picking Madeleine for the rest of my life, but I knew in that very second the scandal was released that whoever was behind it would stop at nothing to keep us apart. My focus changed and was completely dedicated to keeping you safe! I had to make it seem like they had won, and that it appeared I severed ties with you. Because then you’d be removed from further harm. This was my only way to keep an upper hand, to make them think they won. God, please know I never wanted to spend a single moment without you... I love you.”
His last statement punched Riley in the stomach. His words, all his words constantly filled her with hope. Hope that if she simply told him the truth, they could fight Constantine together and win. But it was his life on the line, no one else’s, and like he made the sacrifice to choose Madeleine to keep her safe, she also felt like she needed to save him. She had to find a way to ask Liam if his father and his team were actually capable of killing.
“Do.. do you really think I’m in that much danger?”
“Yes.” Liam answered sharply and honestly remembering how someone betrayed his loving mother. “Yes, I do. I never told you what happened to my mother. She was killed, murdered with poison. And not even my father, the king, could discover her killer or even a fucking motive, just that it was an inside job. I can’t let the same fate fall to you. My mother’s death changed my father, that loss snuffed out what little light he had in his heart. It soured him and left him dark. And the worst part is that the powers to be covered it all up. Who knows what this traitor is capable of.”
There it was. Constantine may not have been responsible for his wife’s death, but with this information, Riley knew his blackened heart had been tainted beyond repair. That he truly hated the idea of love and his twisted mind really believed his own son would be better off dead if she didn’t go through with this.
Liam could see the anguish written all over her face, he assumed because of his dark recounting of this mother’s death. “Hey, I know this is, well, less than ideal, but we can still have each other. Madeleine, she knows I don’t love her. She doesn’t know the extent of my ruse, but she knows it’s you that I love. Her offer is to turn a blind eye when it comes to us, as long as she gets to be queen.”
“So, are.. are you going to marry her then, in the end?”
“No! No Love, that’s not my goal at all. I’ll take all measures during this godforsaking tour and stop at nothing to find who’s behind this and clear your name. I’ll find this traitor and bring them to justice. You know, I find that the more that’s taken away from me, the more daring I become.”
Liam had this look of confidence on him, like the ever conquering hero she knew he was. Riley started to panic, she let this conversation go on too long. This had to end, she had to do her part.
“Li-Liam,” she stuttered, fuck this is so hard! She thought to herself. “Maybe you shouldn’t work so hard at uncovering this.. I don’t think it’s worth it to find out, I doubt you really want to know who’s responsible, it’d probably do more harm then good..” fuck I’m revealing too much!
“What are you talking about? We have to do this, we love each other..”
“No!” Riley shuddered a breath in, trying to shift the sound from tears and into a stern aggression. “Liam. No... The truth is.. I don’t love you. Not anymore. Or, well, maybe I was never sure in the first place. Just - you rejected me, got engaged to a horrifying woman, and then allowed me to be abolished and ignored for three weeks. I.. too much damage has been done, and in all that time I realized.. this,” she gestured her hand between them, “this, was never love. So. I don’t love you, Liam.” Riley used all the efforts in her body to pull the lie out, she had to, she’d do anything to save him. “It’s... ok, it’s ok. Really. This is just for the best. You should marry Madeleine and be the king you were destined to be, spare yourself from thoughts of me. Everything will be ok. Goodbye, Liam.”
Liam could barely register words in the wake of his shattering heart. He stretched his arms out to try and grab hold of her, but she swiftly stepped out of reach. He couldn’t believe it. But her step back told him she was serious, and the last thing he’d ever do was force her to do something she seemed so strongly against. “Riley. Love, please...” was all he could muster. But she already had her back to him unable to fight the tears any longer. She stepped to the bedroom door, knowing she could again freely walk out under the blackmail Constantine was holding over her. She took notice of something she wished she had noticed in Applewood and spoke her final words.
“You should probably reevaluate the upper hand you think you have under this ruse.. Look, no lock on the door. Again.” She said trying to signal her only clue that she and he were both being coerced. And with that she gloomily walked out and shut the door behind her.
