Children Prayer  Can Parents Pray on Behalf of Their Child
Hey everyone, Welcome to Pillai Center Practice YouTube channel. Through this video I will be talking about Selfless Service For Personal Growth & Seva. I had always thought of myself as a pretty selfish person. At a young age my mom became a single parent of 3 kids, and at that point I had to start taking care of myself and my siblings, and during that time it became about survival. I think that pattern continued and I just kept taking caring of myself until I met Dr.Pillai, and he taught me that service to others called ‘Seva’, selfless service is part of your personal growth – it’s part of your spiritual evolution and your personal development – that there are inherent benefits to helping people.
In this video, Pillai Center teacher Swamini Valli answers whether parents can do prayers on behalf of their child. You can chant mantras and do prayers on behalf of your child. Swamini Valli also describes how to properly do prayers on behalf of your child.
I recognized that right away through his suggestions and practice. Simple things like serving your friends and family, asking who wants things, cooking for people, feeding the homeless, going out of your way to make sure others have what they need, and that can be done on a very small scale, or a very large scale.
Tripura Foundation became my gateway to selfless service, and I had the opportunity to meet people, children in underdeveloped countries, giving them nutritious food, education, inspiration through our Hope Centers in Tripura, and then also through Phonemic Intelligence where Tripura offers intelligent enhancing techniques that kids learn at a young age that then benefit them through their entire life.
I make sure I give my donations every single month so that it’s taken care of, and the trick about service or selfless service is that it’s not selfless at all. In the sense that as long as you do it without expectation, what you receive back is multiple times what you gave.
So, I encourage you to follow your passion of what you feel is important to give back to become part of something bigger than yourself and serve; serve others whatever that looks like for you in the world.

Ideological Analysis of an Advertisement Assignment
Nowadays, messages can be communicated through many ways. Books. Arts. Movies. Videos. Photography. Photography advertisements can be meaningless and just advertise the brand or it could have a deeper meaning in this case. Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, an American movement fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence, started an awareness campaign to call out the absurdity of the United States’ current lax laws and weak regulation of guns. The ads, part of a campaign called “Choose One,” were designed by Grey advertising agency. This particular one called “Kinder Egg” was created in July 2013 for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
First peek at the photography we see two children, a boy and a girl. Based on their looks and the decor around them, they seem to be young middle schooler. We know the image's mise-en-scene is set in a classroom because we see desks, posters, pencils, and a chalk board with instructions written for the students to do. The boy is holding a Kinder surprise chocolate egg, while the girl is holding an AR-15 assault rifle. The setting chosen with the assault rifle as the ideal main subject is to demand action about gun possession because school shootings happen too often every year, especially in the States where guns are not banned. The photography really put emphasis on the two children, by the colour of the shirts they are wearing. The background, which is a bit blurred by the use of shallow depth of field, has dark and soft colour like green and tan. It seems like the saturation of the background around the two subjects got lowered down to make the bright red and purple of the kids' shirts pop more to the viewers. The photography is made in a way to spotlight the children, using lighting to add to the emphasis of the subjects. The children were placed in the middle of two rows of desks, which forms diagonal lines that make our eyes wander right toward them, especially the objects they are holding. The space between each element on the photography is somewhat organized. In the first third of the picture, we see two desks and the board. On the second third, the middle, the two children are centred, and we see quote added on top. The producers used a rhetorical question to make the ad more obvious. In the last third, it features a repetition of the first third. I would not say the producers pay attention to the symmetrical of the image, but we could say there is a bit of symmetry going on with the desks.
This ad can be interpreted in three ways. The main one that stands out the most is the dominant-hegemonic reading. Like it says in the image, “One child is holding something that’s been banned in America to protect them. Guess which one.” In the bottom right, there is a quote accompanying the image saying, “We won’t sell Kinder chocolate eggs in the interest of child safety. Why not assault weapons?” In the States, a 1930 law forbids food from containing inedible items. This Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Act intention is to prevent young children choking on non-nutritive object like the small toys that sit in the centre of the chocolate egg. On the other hand, assault weapons are legal as long as you have a permit and the age of it. The producers behind the advertisement campaign used irony to point out how ridiculous it is for the eggs to be banned all over America, yet it’s relatively easy to walk into a gun shop and buy a gun. Surprisingly for non-Americans, family-friendly company like Walmart carries handgun ammunition and some of the stores even sell firearms in the sports section.
Grey company made multiple ads with a child holding a gun and another child holding something that is banned. In the other ones, an illustrated version of Little Red Riding Hood’s book and a dodge ball could me seen. The fairy tale book is banned because the protagonist brings a bottle of wine to her grandmother and dodge ball is seen to be a bullying and violence weapon which is considered to be not conformed for Physical Education classes. However, the ad tends to put more attention on the actual objects banned. In this ad campaign, the discussion that opens after seeing the ad is definitely on Kinder eggs, not gun control. Even the quotes back this up, by asking which one is banned. When I first saw this ad a few years ago, I immediately did research on why Kinder eggs are banned not paying attention to the main subject. The target audience is the government and gun owners. The meaning behind the ad campaign is without doubt a call for action to make a change on gun control because too many people get killed, especially students that faced death by attending to school. If big weapons like AR-15 assault rifles were illegal like in Canada, there would be much less school shootings.
To sum up, this advertisement campaign by Grey for Mom Demand Action for Gun Sense in America really communicates the message effectively. The use of quotes and the execution of the photography really helps the viewers know what the ad is for. The message is clear and the producers’ intent is well demonstrated. Like the famous saying says, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
