Summary : After six years with your boyfriend Alex, you start to mentally check out. At a UCLA party, Alex reconnects with his childhood friend Emily, who proposes a double date with her boyfriend Matt. Matts POV

The sun was dipping low, orange and pink hues painted the sky as I stared out the window. The day had been pretty chill now that Emily was gone, I had some space and could just hang out with Chris and Nick. But now, things were about to get a whole lot more interesting. Nate, our friend from Boston, was visiting for the next week or so and had just arrived at our house. It felt like old times again, having the whole gang together.

“Yo, Matt!” Nate’s voice rang out from the living room. “You ready to lose tonight?”

I smirked, walking in to find him and Chris sprawled out on the couch. “Lose? You mean, are you ready to lose? I’ve been working on my swing, man.”

Nate laughed, shaking his head. “We’ll see about that. My game’s been on point lately.”

“Yeah, yeah, I’ll put 100 bucks on it.” I said, rolling my eyes and grabbing my phone off the counter. “Where’s Nick?”

“He’s in his room” Chris said. “Probably trying to pick out an outfit like it’s some kind of fashion show.”

I chuckled. “Well, he better hurry up. We’re supposed to leave in like ten minutes.”

As if on cue, Nick walked down the stairs into the room, looking way too casual for someone who’d spent an extra ten minutes getting ready.

“Speaking of the devil” I said, crossing my arms with a grin, “You finally done making yourself pretty?”

Nick laughed it off. “I was just making sure my plus one could come.”

“Plus one?” I raised an eyebrow, not sure what he meant.

“Yeah?” Nick said, glancing around the room at all of us. “I invited Y/n to come with us.”

I felt my grin fade a bit, replaced by surprise. I hadn’t seen that coming. Not that I had a problem with Y/n coming along, but with everything that had gone down with Emily.. things were complicated, especially after last time.

I shot Nick a look, trying to figure out what he was thinking. “You sure that’s a good idea? I mean, Emily wasn’t exactly happy about us hanging out.”

Nick shrugged, looking calm and collected. “If I remember correctly, she said she didn’t want you two hanging out alone. We’re all going, right? It’s not like it’s just you and Y/n. There’ll be six of us total.”

I thought about that for a second, replaying Emily’s words in my head. Nick wasn’t wrong. Emily’s issue was with me and Y/n spending time together one on one, not in a group. And honestly, Y/n was Nick’s friend too. We couldn’t just exclude her because of Emily’s feelings.

Nick gave me that knowing look, a half smile tugging at his lips. “Come on. Don’t overthink it. It’s just Top Golf.”

I sighed, feeling some of the tension slip away as I realized Nick had a point. There was no reason to blow this out of proportion. It was just a fun night out with friends.

“Alright, fine..” I said, clapping Nick on the shoulder. “But you’re dealing with Emily if she freaks out.”

Nick chuckled. “Deal. I told her we’ll pick her up on the way.”

The doorbell rang then, echoing through the house.

“That’ll be Madi” Chris said, getting up to answer it.

I ran a hand through my hair, trying to shake off the last bit of unease. I grabbed my keys off the counter and turned back to the guys. “Alright, let’s do this. Nate, I hope you’re ready to lose your money tonight.”

Nate laughed, his confidence unwavering. “You wish.”

We all grabbed our stuff and headed out the door, the excitement for the night starting to build. As I locked up, I couldn’t help but wonder how the evening was going to play out. With Y/n along for the ride, things were bound to go one of two ways, to be very awkward or very interesting.

But as I climbed into the car with my friends, I pushed those thoughts aside. Tonight was about having fun. Whatever happened, I'd deal with it together. Just like I always did.

Y/n POV

I blinked at the message, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. I hadn’t been expecting an invitation tonight. Before I could overthink it, I typed back a quick reply:

Me: Are you sure? I don’t want to intrude.

His response was immediate.

Nick 💜 : Of course, you’re not intruding! Nate’s visiting from Boston, and Madi’s coming too. It’ll be a good time.

Seeing that Nate and Madi would be there made me feel a little more at ease. It wasn’t just going to be me and the guys, so there wouldn’t be any weirdness or pressure. Still, the thought of seeing Matt again had my heart racing. I wasn’t sure how it would feel being around him tonight.

Me: Okay, sounds fun!

Nick 💜: Great! We’ll swing by and pick you up in about 30. See you soon!

I set my phone down, taking a deep breath to calm my nerves. This was just a casual night out with friends, no big deal. But the potential thought that I’d see Matt again had my mind racing with thoughts I couldn’t quite push away. Shaking my head, I decided to focus on getting ready instead of overthinking.

I pulled open my closet and sifted through my clothes, trying to find something that was cute but casual enough for Top Golf. I settled on a cropped tank top with a flannel shirt layered over it. I paired it with my favorite jeans and some comfy sneakers. After giving myself a look over in the mirror, I decided to put a little extra effort into my hair and makeup. Maybe it was silly, but I wanted to feel confident tonight.

I was just finishing up when my phone buzzed again, this time with a message from Nick letting me know they were outside. I grabbed my bag, gave my reflection a quick nod of approval, and headed out the door. The nervous energy in my chest made me feel ridiculous, but I couldn’t shake it.

As I walked outside, I spotted a familiar car waiting at the curb. Matt’s car. My breath hitched for a moment. I could see Matt in the driver’s seat, Chris up front with him. I walked up to the car trying to not make direct eye contact with anyone. Nick slid open the back door and flashed me a welcoming grin.

“Hey girl! Hop in!” he said, scooting over to make room for me.

I climbed into the car, trying to keep my cool as I greeted everyone. “Hey guys!”

Matt glanced back at me through the rearview mirror, his expression softening as our eyes met. No words were exchanged, we just gave each other a half smile, the kind that made time feel like it slowed down time. I returned the smile, feeling a warmth in my chest that made me even more nervous.

“Hey, I’m Madi” said the girl sitting in the third row, offering me a friendly wave.

“And I’m Nate” added the guy next to her, a tall guy with a laid back vibe. “Nice to meet you.”

“You too!” I said, glad to finally meet the people I’d heard about from Nick.

The drive to Top Golf was surprisingly quick. Everyone was in high spirits, chatting and laughing, and I found myself relaxing as the conversation flowed easily. We unloaded from the car once we arrived, and Matt, being the gentleman he was, swung open the door on my side. Our eyes met again as I stepped out, and we exchanged another one of those small, lingering smiles.

“Thanks” I said softly, feeling a flutter in my stomach.

“No problem” Matt replied, his voice low and easygoing. The moment was brief, but it left me feeling strangely content.

As we all walked into the building, I found myself sticking close to Nick, who was happily chatting about how excited he was to see Nate again, and Matt stood on the other side of me, silent. “I’ve never done this before” I admitted to him as we waited at the reception desk. “I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s all about.”

Nick gave me a reassuring grin. “You’ll love it. It’s a good time, especially with this crew.”

We got our bay assignment from the receptionist and made our way up to the second floor. The place was buzzing with energy, people laughing, music playing, and the satisfying whack of golf balls being hit. We reached our booth, which had a great view of the range, and Matt immediately took charge of inputting all of our names into the machine.

I stood back, taking it all in. The setup was way cooler than I’d imagined, with all these targets spread out across the field in different colors. “So, what’s the deal with all the rings out there?” I asked out loud, walking past Matt to get closer to the yellow line on the ground to get a better look.

Matt joined me, leaning in slightly as he explained. “Each ring gives you a different amount of points. The farther away it is and the closer you get to the centre, the more points you score.”

I turned to him, genuinely surprised. “Wait, so there’s actually an aim to this? All this time I thought you were just hitting golf balls as stress relief.”

Matt let out a laugh, the sound making me smile. “Yeah, it’s a little more than that. But it’s fun either way.”

Chris was up first, so Matt and I moved out of his way, still chatting. He pointed out the different clubs sitting in the box beside us.

“So, these are your options” he said, picking up a golf club that was easily as tall as me. “This one’s a driver. Good for getting the ball as far out as possible.”

I eyed the club, tilting my head. “That thing’s huge. I don’t think I can even hold that properly. You’re sure I won’t just end up swinging and missing completely?”

Matt grinned, the playful glint in his eyes making me relax a little more. “It’s all in the technique. But if you think it’s too much, there are shorter ones too.” He handed me a smaller club, our fingers brushing briefly. “This one might be more your speed.”

I took the club, testing the weight of it in my hands. “Okay, this feels better. I can actually manage this one.”

“Good choice.” Matt said, his tone teasing as he picked up another club for himself. “But remember, it’s not just about the length. It’s how you use it.”

I rolled my eyes, laughing at his playful manner. “Right. I’ll keep that in mind, golf pro.” I blushed slightly. Was he flirting with me? No he didn’t mean it like that..

He chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners in that way that made it impossible not to smile back. “I’ll show you some tips when it’s your turn.”

“Thanks, I’ll need them!” I admitted, feeling more comfortable around him than I had all night.

We all watched as Chris took his first swing, sending the ball flying towards one of the targets. Everyone cheered, and I found myself getting more excited to take my turn.

As I stood there with Matt, bantering back and forth about the clubs, I realized that maybe tonight wasn’t going to be as nerve wrecking as I’d thought. We were just a group of friends having fun, and Matt’s easygoing nature was making it hard to feel anything but relaxed. He was one of those people I instantly felt comfortable around.

When I looked up at the screen to check whose turn it was, I noticed something that made my heart skip a beat. Instead of my full name, the screen showed my nickname, one that only my closest friends used. My face flushed as I realized Matt must have been the one who put it in like that. It was a small gesture, but it made me feel warm inside.

Feeling a mix of anticipation and nerves, I stepped up to the mark and placed the golf ball on the tee. I took a deep breath, trying to channel the confidence Matt had given me earlier, and swung the club. 

But instead of sailing out into the field, the ball shot straight into the netting below me. I froze in place, wide eyed and embarrassed as laughter erupted behind me. Turning around, I caught their amused faces and couldn’t help but laugh at myself too.

“You’re hitting the ball like it’s mini golf!” Matt called out, his voice full of laughter. His teasing was light hearted, and I could tell he wasn’t trying to make me feel bad.

“I’m scared to swing it properly!” I confessed, still laughing as I turned back to face him.

Matt shook his head, still chuckling as he made his way over to me. “Here, let me help you.”

My heart skipped again as he came closer, standing directly behind me. The next thing I knew, Matt was wrapping his arms around mine, placing his hands on top of mine on the club. His touch was gentle but firm, guiding me into the right position. I could feel his breath on the back of my neck, and suddenly, we were practically spooning while standing up. My heart raced in my chest, beating so loud I was sure he could hear it.

“Just relax” Matt said softly, his voice close to my ear. We swung the club back together, and in one smooth motion, he guided the swing, sending the ball flying down to the bottom of the field. I watched it soar, feeling a rush of excitement at how far it went.

“Do you feel better about it now?” Matt asked, his voice still low, sending a pleasant shiver down my spine.

“Yeah, it’s a little less scary now” I admitted, smiling up at him as he stepped back.

With my newfound confidence, I picked up another golf ball and placed it on the tee. Matt walked back to his seat, and I focused on the ball, trying to replicate what Matt had shown me. I took the same stance, swung the club the same way, and to my amazement, the ball flew straight to the furthest ring.

Everyone cheered in unison, and I couldn’t help the grin that spread across my face. “That’s the girl!” I heard Matt yell from behind me, his voice full of encouragement. My cheeks flushed at his praise, but I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.

I took my last two turns, each time sending the ball further than the last. Every time I hit a good shot, the group cheered, and Matt’s voice always seemed to stand out above the rest. After my final shot, I put the club back in its slot and turned around to see Matt standing there with a big grin. He held up both his hands, and I gave him a double high five, our palms smacking together in a satisfying way.

We both sat down, still buzzing from the game. Matt and I started chatting, the conversation flowing easily between us. It felt good, natural, like we’d been friends forever. Before I knew it, the hour was up, and the game was over.

Nate won by a country mile, with Chris and Matt tying for second. I won’t mention where the rest of us ended up, but let’s just say it was clear who the pros were in this group.

‘Time to cough that 100 bucks up Matt.’ Nate teased.

As we all started gathering our things, Chris groaned. “Ugh, I’m not ready to go home yet. Can we do something else?”

“We could all go for a walk on the beach?” Nate suggested, his tone casual, but the idea sounded perfect to me.

Nick lit up at the suggestion. “Fucking brilliant idea, Nate.”

Matt looked over at me, almost as if he was checking to see if I’d be up for it. Our eyes met, and I gave him a reassuring smile. “The beach sounds nice. I love the beach at night.”

With that, the plan was set. We all piled back into Matt’s car, the mood even more relaxed and happy than before. I slid into the back seat next to Nick again, feeling the cool night air on my face as we drove toward the beach.

It had been a fun night so far, but something told me that the best part was still to come.

Decided to post some more random, mostly minor characters from the DC universe, mostly ones that seemed they would be fun to draw. I guess technically these drawings are all based in my TrWh au, as always. Here they are:

Wanted to draw heroes with wings, I draw Vanessa quite a bit so I had to learn wings and feathers. Still working on it, but its fun. You can see Vanessa there at the bottom middle, looking a little menacing.

The girl with red wings is called...Redwing aka Carrie Levine. I thought she was a sweet kid, so her ultimate fate was pretty sad. Wonder if she'll come back to continuity at some point.

The guy with the mohawk is Northwind aka Norda Cantrell, part of Infinity Inc the earth 2 version of a Teen Titans group. He honestly didn't get a whole lot of focus in Infinity Inc, like the writer didn't know what to do with him. Maybe they should've made him into the magic fighter of the group, almost felt like thats what they were going for him before they wrote him off.

The girl in yellow is Dawnstar, part of the Legion of Superheroes. I haven't read much of LoSH, mostly some 90's issues. But her design is soooo pretty I had to draw her, her costume here is a mix of her various outfits.

Lastly, here's Bluejay aka Jay Abrams again, part of Justice League Europe. Kinda thought JLE was a bit of a letdown, I mean the team's made up of mostly americans not europeans! I think Crimson Fox was the only european, I thought her set-up of being two people was cool.

Little extra Infinity doodle, here's Hector Hall (Silver Scarab) hating on poor Norda, with Lyta Trevor (Fury) looking on with confusion. Hector's just a hater (tho there's reasons for it ig), an archetype you see sometimes in some superhero groups, like Roy Harper or Guy Gardner. The plot-line of Hector's resentment of Norda was kinda interesting, but like with most things in Infinity it didn't get the focus it should've gotten. Speaking of Infinity, here's some more doodles:

There's Rex Tyler (Hourman 1) with little Rick Tyler (Hourman 2), enjoying some father-son time. Apparently Rick's first costume isn't well liked (so says reddit). I thought it seemed cute but maybe it works better as a kid's or sidekick's kinda costume?

In the middle is Jack Knight (Starman) suffering as he interacts with Sylvester Pemberton (Skyman, formerly the Star-Spangled Kid) and Courtney Whitmore (Stargirl, actually she should still be S-SK but whatever). In my au he actually joins Infinity Inc, since everyone becomes heroes earlier he's actually around when the team's still running. I suspect his dad (Ted Knight) forced him into it. Also Courtney doesn't respect Jack at all, he's so annoyed at this. Look at her mini-staff, I presume Ted made it for her.

Also there's Beth Chapel (Dr. Mid-Nite) and Jesse Chambers (Jesse Quick) looking cool. Jesse also joins Infinity Inc in my au, will there be a love triangle going on between Beth, Rick and Jesse? Don't think Rick's gonna survive that, aw well.

Look at baby Jade and Obsidian, Alan is overwhelmed by their antics.

In another post someone asked if I could draw more of the Relative Heroes, a super obscure hero group. So @draculaura1660, this one's for you. Here they are:

I kinda had a hard time drawing this group, cuz their costumes are so complicated! I wished there was a reference/concept art for them cuz it was a struggle trying to figure out the details, the comic art did not help matters at all. You might have noticed I changed details anyways, I tend to simplify costumes for my au both to make it easier to draw and also to signify their younger ages. It's just fun to play around with costume design ig.

Some more characters!

Jinx, who looks very different between her comic and cartoon self. I did like her pink hair, so decide to see how it would look on her comic self. There's Kole, who also has different designs in comic/cartoons. I think her comic costume is so cool, esp that color pallet! But I love her pink hair in the cartoon, so she's got pink hair here! Just like pink hair a lot lol.

The other pink haired girl is Laethwen, love interest of Ray Palmer in Sword of the Atom. I think I made her hair more pink to better differentiate her from Starfire, also, again I just like pink hair. I wished she and her little kingdom didn't die, in my au Ray saves them! Maybe he relocates them to his backyard or something?

Little Donna and Vanessa doodle, did you know they never once interacted on panel? The closest is when Donna brings her stepsister Cindy to talk to Vanessa instead. I wonder how they would even interact, I know Vanessa wanted to be wonder girl (and resented Cassie for 'taking' it from her). Did she look up to Donna, or wanted her out of the way? Funnily enough Donna wasn't even Diana's sidekick when post-crisis started, due to both their origins being reworked and contradicting each other's timelines. It's all very confusing.

Anyways, some bonus doodles:

Had fun making a new outfit for Laethwen, I imagine she took some inspiration from indigenous groups from the Amazon, seeing as that's where her people crashed into.

Kole's costume is just so beautiful but so complicated, maybe that's why she got killed off so soon in Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Lastly, here's Bette bugging Dick with Barbara being super amused about it. I said in my post about her that I didn't really care about her crush on Robin, which is true, but I still wanted to doodle something making fun of it. Poor Dick is doesn't know how to get outta of this social situation.

Thanks for the reblog, I just hope people can clear this and come away still playing… this event is enough to make anyone want to scream into the abyss. I’m almost impressed at the thought process behind this design, no wonder Broccoli changed from Shining Live, this is so much more profitable… for them.

This event being...something. The previous ones all having issues. And up until this huge login bonus, rewards just not being enough for pulls has been not a great start for the game. And with the player base, and hell just Utapri fanbase, just being lower than back when Shining Live started, it makes a mistake way more likely to ruin the game's chance at thriving. Also having a harsher event after the Session Lives and Tokiya's were pretty nice is....rough. And definitely might run people off who are already getting annoyed with the other issues.

Granted, the fanbase is still kicking pretty well, more so in Japan. The whales are still whaling. Tickets are still a fight. But like...we know it's gone down.

The move away from Shining Live is obviously more complicated than Broccoli wanting more money. The game was getting stagnant. It was developed by KLab, who was well moving away from rhythm games and have their own issues. The player base was declining. The spark was gone. I kinda wish Broccoli had leaned more into what made SL great when they took over, but the changing of games was kinda necessary. And it got Heavens fans their boys. Adding them to SL would have required heavy changes. Easier to start from scratch.

I do want to point out what has been great about Live Emotion so far! Reasons why we should stay encouraged and hope Broccoli keeps making good changes (because they have! We just had a qol update! They're giving us the 5000 login bonus too!) And this post is gonna get long lol

The boys in SL....got bland? They were only their idol sides, because even the backstage stuff was on camera. We stopped really seeing their depth and personalities, and that's the whole point of Utapri! To see them and work with them behind the screen! The idol stuff was supposed to be secondary! But since season 4 ended, all we've had is SL, movies, and other side projects that are JUST their idol side (aside from the Starish OVA).

But Live Emotion has us as Haruka again! We're by their side when they're actually being themselves! We get to romance them again! We're seeing Utapri as it was again! And as someone who has been here since 2012, god it feels so nice?? Like old times?

We're acknowledging and even having other characters in the stories. Both presidents have already shown up! And while no one else aside from them is listed in the voice cast yet, surely others will show soon? At least Ringo and Ryuuya. (they should've been in Starish's chapter at the school but whatever) Fucking Rodriguez has a mention in the event?? Like, the world is alive again! It's not just our 11 to 18 main boys (depending on content)

Old content and outfits are being used which will help with the concept fatigue SL had. And also it's just nice to see really good old designs not just be forgotten! I'm not a huge fan as to how Ultra Blast is being handled. It feels weird to have some people get SRs. In the same way I didn't like Oodorokiman and Shining Romance/Force Live being mixed SRs and URs. But I've seen other people upset and in the same way SL stopped doing that, hopefully Live Emotion will too.

And again Broccoli has been listening to feedback and making changes. There's still...a lot of work to do. But SL also made a lot of changes over time. So hopefully they keep listening and things get better. Because there's parts of this game worth protecting and wanting to continue. I loved how SL did stuff too. I wish we had everything about how SL did stuff with gachas and event mechanics, but the story and character quality of Live Emotion. We just gotta...push Broccoli in that direction.

I really hope the event doesn't scare people off! We're on 2 full months of the game. The first of this event type. Stuff can still change!!!

Totino is a SCARY good liar. He's very charming and enthusiastic and an eccentric kind of guy. He's know how to appear trustworthy. He owns a business, he's kinda gotta be able to do this LMAO He probably used to have tells, but he's worked very hard to train himself out of those. But it probably helped with how much denial and crap he fell into after Domino's death.

🍓 STRAWBERRY - do they eat their fruit & veg? what is their favourite fruit or vegetable?

Totino will eat his veggies. on pizza. He likes peppers :)

🌙 MOON - what is your oc's greatest wish? how far are they willing to go for it?

Be a popular and prosperous business with wads and wads of cash, be on top of the world... with his brother.

We already know how far he was willing to go.

I don't think he's that aware that MAYBE he should be less. deranged. around other people. But he does try to keep the super angry part of him under wraps. Cover it with a smile!

🎭 MASKS - do they act differently around certain people? what's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.?

IT'S LITERALLY ALL HE DOOESS. He's his true self when he's around Domino and Domino only. Puts a facade on even around Sprite. He has to be happy mascot business over all the time. He has to.

💎 DIAMOND - how rich are they? can they live the lifestyle they want to?

He was very, very rich. Their business was really popular and raked in a lot of cash. It's... gotten less so over the years. So the lifestyle Totino always wanted kind of faded away. Good thing denial exists!

🔪 KNIFE - how do they react to injury / misfortune befalling their loved ones (significant other, family, friends)? do they put themselves at blame?

If he himself is hurt, he doesn't care. If his arm fell off he'd insist it's not a big deal. If someone else is hurt, he's concerned, but it's not really his problem. If it's Domino? WHOEVER was the inciting incident to however he got hurt is going to PAY.

Then Totino killed him.

Things got a lot more complicated.

What's your opinion on Genshin Impact characters design?

Very complicated outfits with a lot of little details are hard to draw and I struggle a bit with most of the characters for this reason but at least the big shapes are identifiable

Uhm I wish the cast looked more diverse in skin but also their designs - I'm not sure how to elaborate on it like

I wish there was more shape language and unique silhouettes? Of course they're all unique but some characters kinda follow a basis? Yknow?

I hope that made some form of sense

Also I'm happy to see we're getting more men, and I'm hoping that eventually we get a child-sized male character because that would be adorable

But because a few of the heights are gendered (tall female vs tall male at different standard heights; maybe the real young child heights are gendered?) I can understand if that's not gonna happen anytime soon

Making a new model might be an issue n all

Lastly, I wish some npcs looked more interesting but I understand that they're npcs and so... the mindset might be "What's the reason?"

My mind says different characters of different classes can dress different but that's minor and I don't really care its just a thing I think of for fun

☕️ Rant CW : My issues w Obey Me ☕️

Alright so I’ve been into obey me for a few months now. I love the game and the characters have caught my heart pretty quickly but I have a few issues with the games and characters and I just wanted to rant.

Starting off with the relationship of the brothers. They’re referred to like family but every now and again you’ll get a weird interaction between them that’s kinda icky [ cough looking straight at ASMO cough ] and then it also kinda complicates things with MC with the whole Lilith. Sure they might not be blood related but it’s still odd.

Another thing is just designs in general. Like Thirteen’s whole design feels off. I think it’s a matter of her outfit being really random, her eyes and nails not tying in with anything else, and the fact that the only female character character so far being really off makes her out of place almost. I just wish that she felt like she belonged more in the game, also hoping she’s dateable because women 💞

Thirteen’s not even the only one with seemingly poor design though, like it’s been talked about before but why does Diavolo change colors. It’s just kinda inconsistent along with Mammon, Simeon, and Diavolo’s skin colors when it comes to cards [ and them being completely white washed almost. ] Which I know the cards are made by different artists but I feel like as the devs they could just idk, not include the art where Mammon’s so fucking pale that I get him confused with Solomon? It’s just this type of things that make the game rough.

In general it’s inconsistency, poor design, and poor writing that kinda hurts the game. Fandom is really out here saving the game’s ass sometimes. Concluding my rant here though because tired and it hurts my brain thinking about this too much.

I mostly only have braincells for Kiyo and Angie so not a lot of my thoughts are straying from that unfortunately LMAO, I was able to branch off a bit answering this though so thank you for indirectly helping me develop more!!

But I like to think it's the same scenario as the second game where it was all just a simulation. I know what I fantasize about is a VR AU and that "postgame" tends to refer to the survivors but literally none of my favorites survived so reality can be whatever I want: postgame Shinnaga is so canon it's unreal!! I'm sure there's probably a VR fic for them somewhere out there in the world, I wouldn't know because I suck at reading fhdjfk, but I would love to write my own someday HEH

They'd all wake up one by one as they die and end up all in the same facility where they're taken care of by the Danganronpa team, unable to leave until they’re well again due to the contracts they signed prior to playing-- Meaning Angie wakes up, Tenko wakes up a few hours later, Kiyo another few hours later, etc. Angie jumps back pretty quick from things so she'd be already VERY excited to see Kiyo*  after watching the trial, mostly because Angie like immediately caught onto what his sister really was to him (HINT: CONTROLLING AND AWFUL) and yelling at her screen saying "GOD WILL SMITE YOU ALL FOR PICKING ON THE WEAK" at everyone just calling him some incestuous freak during the trial. Angie does have genuinely incredible intuition (thanks god!) so she looks past the fact he murdered her Scarily Fast. Everyone would definitely mistrust and hate Angie even more as she tries to preach to them afterwards about Kiyo and how they need to forgive him since he’s a victim and God (most important opinion) already forgave him, but no one ever listened to her anyway especially postgame so it’s all in vain 😔

*whom might take a bit to wake up and fully acclimate again because...idk this man was boiled alive that's kinda Fucked I think all the executed would take longer to wake up because they went through more lengthy + traumatic deaths I guess? This just means even more time for Angie to sit on her thoughts about what happened to her+Kiyo yuh yuh

Everyone becomes a mix of their pregame selves and the identities they were given, they'd end up being mediocre/average (sometimes bad) at what their handpicked talent was but a lot of them still keep up doing it until they DO become good again. A very small amount of them try to replicate their killing game outfits and kinda live off the high of being what they once were and accomplished in their fake memories, like Miu and Himiko. (this also makes me think about Irumeno a bit more 👀) Pretty much every single one of them in pregame saw themselves as nothing, being disposable enough to be in a killing game (even if it turns out to be virtual), so the new identities would overpower the mix for the most part since they’re the more intensified and dramaticized personality--IF THAT MAKES ANY SENSE LOL.

--Angie absolutely never stopped her art and has a less intense view on Religion, since garnering more experiences in life she’s just be less intense in general I'd think; more open with her emotions in that she'd actually cry, but still very manic and bubbly and optimistic nonetheless. After getting help (mostly from Kiyo who deals with the same thing), Angie is able to differentiate her thoughts and desires from “God”’s thoughts and desires, YEA she still has a funky little friend in her head. She's not AS pushy especially not with her equally traumatized fellow killing game participants but she still absolutely gets her moments of intensity and assertiveness now and then if she thinks something God is telling her is absolute truth and for the betterment of everyone: she is still Angie afterall, truly believing everyone would be much happier with her God in their lives but having enough self-restraint to know everyone will just push her away further if she tries to help them in that regard. She has her moments of desperation but most everyone’s too far gone from her already.

--Korekiyo is such a complicated one--I do like to think of pregame Kiyo as transfem/nonbinary and that would partially stick into his postgame identity in some way...killing game Kiyo was Just A Dude but after becoming the mix of the two identities he'd be VERY confused, especially with the influence of his (simulated) sister's influence. (genderfluid time? :)) He'd have varying degrees of when his...sister...alter...thing...comes out, or is present in his head in any regard, she'd be gone or slowly disappearing from his mind for months at a time and he'd initially be extremely unstable about it because he feels extremely isolated and lost when he can’t talk to her, but he's got Angie by his side so he becomes significantly less stressed about it over time, learning to cope with it. Eventually he finds himself no longer dependent on sister and...has to learn a SECOND time to not be unhealthily dependent; on Angie this time. (funky little idea I’ve been wanting to draw/write about sometime...hnnrngm) They’re both miracle workers when it comes to each other’s mental health it’s kinda insane. Of course, after realizing that Sister never really existed, he harbors near-immediate guilt for having murdered Angie and Tenko once he’s alone with his thoughts, not being puppeteered by sister, realizing everything he ever did he did for HER and realizing how fucked it all was pretty quickly--he does crave interacting with his victims in a positive and healing light but he’s sort of traumatized by it all to the point he is TERRIFIED when they’re around him at first.

--Tenko ends up EVEN MORE protective and grudgeful after she wakes up, trying to shield everyone and everything from most of the blackened, absolutely makes Kiyo manage to feel like even worse shit when he's got 1 extremely supportive and loving woman he killed and 1 extremely spiteful woman he killed who might legitimately murder him in return if he’s not careful. Tenko never makes amends with Angie and becomes close with Himiko (who's close with Gonta despite Tenko's wishes (she hates him for killing Miu, local woman)), managing to keep Himiko far far away from Angie, not only for "stealing" Himiko in the Student Council but also for the fact Angie's glued to Kiyo's side--making her the second least trustworthy person to Tenko..

--Himiko is very traumatized after the game due to surviving all the way til the end, likely making her (along with Shuichi+Maki) very disillusioned and lost--unable to decipher anything from fiction or reality--it takes a long time for Himiko to really “accept” anything; tried to cling to both Tenko and Angie but ends up just stuck on Tenko, mourning the loss of her friendship with Angie while doing so. Himiko would probably be shoved away from Gonta at first as well, but Tenko felt a lot more confident in Gonta so after a long while of her aggressively trying to teach him manners and keeping an emotional deathgrip on him whenever he wants to interact with Himiko, they’d end up close friends again. Still thinking about Irumeno-- Also with the whole ~~Survivor Delusions~~ thing, I think that helps play into Himiko’s attachment and insistence to keep up her old magician identity, because she has a very hard time trying to tell what’s real n fake ykno, and it takes her a while to realize she doesn’t have her talent anymore; absolutely ending in tearful breakdowns and unending determination to find herself again by forcibly trying to improve and push herself to her limits.

For the most part Kiyo and Angie are outcasted from everyone else, a lot of that being due to Tenko's preaching but...also everyone just doesn't understand what actually happened to Kiyo and they are all deathly worried about Angie, but not enough to get themselves involved; they're scared of Angie too, afterall, not as much as they're scared of Kiyo but ykno-- They think her naivety and determination to “fix him�� is going to get her murdered again, every day they’re just counting down the minutes until it happens again. (spoiler alert: it doesn’t)

I could ABSOLUTELY go off more but I really have to end this at some point so fhdsjkfds--

TLDR;; Angie (and God alter) forgive Kiyo almost immediately. Sister alter likes to disappear sometimes making Kiyo sad and unfortunately dependent on Angie. Both Kiyo + Angie help each other heal and recover from their issues. Tenko hates both Kiyo + Angie with a passion and protectively forbids Himiko from seeing either of them. Himiko is close friends with Tenko and Gonta and Maybe More with Miu.

MCL UL final review

2020 was the year I took the resolution to make peace with MCL and the last thing I wanted to do before taking a break from the game was finishing UL season. I also wanted to follow tetrakys example just to make it more meaningful for me.

For starters I want to thank my boyfriend because he just got super interested to know more about all the games I enjoy or used to and just encouragement to keep playing if I feel like having a hour for myself to enjoy something because he knew how I was super busy and worn out with work at the time. I think he deserves credit on this because he was there supporting me in all this process and was the truly person who would hear me talk and rant about the game and hype with me at a time I didn’t have anyone to hear me because everything was complicated and some of my friends who played the game were also trying to come to terms in their own private way. It was wonderful to have someone cheering me in a positive way, to enjoy the things I wanted to have fun with without regrets. Thank you my dear!.

I feel like 2020 and 2021 have a impact in my general relationship with otome games, between some of my favorites games ending and me slowly drifting away from them. I feel like I’m not the same person that I used to be and that things have changed too, but I don’t feel bad about it. I wish eventually I could go back to many of the games that I used to enjoy but I wonder if in the future there would be another game that would make me hype so much and I that I would devote and dedicate as much of myself as I used to.

Also a lot happened since 2018 and how much hurted for all what happened with MCL. I was tired of feeling bad about it so I felt like I have to come to terms with it. I have carried a lot of weight for other things in my life but never for a game. Is the first time that something like this didn’t worked as a way to cope but more as a way to hurt us. I do wonder a lot of things but are things that probably will never know. The only thing that could have made perfect my way out from the game if that we weren't in the middle of covid and trapped at home.

Priya was my main LI and the one I was more excited about when UL launched before knowing the true about who she was replacing. I’ve get to date her and fulfilled that fantasy. This was the season were we got to know her better, apart from knowing that she was not that good with art (and working on it) and that she loved to write fiction in her free time. I loved that she got more context to her motivations on becoming a lawyer and her family past life on india. 

I think for me, the flirting was subtle but it was enough to understand, or maybe was because I was into her since many others just viewed her as a good friend. But that was also actually cool for me, it was cool to have at ally, specially with the assault situation at the start of the game. She was fierce and protective and smart and caring. 

But also I felt like the game keep pushing her aside or putting her in the back burner. Several times I was quite annoyed for the little time we get to spend with her (I mean, yes this was a general issue with all the LI’s since all five have to make an appearance in the short span of the episode) and the game will cheat on me when we have a good moment at her side making her run away because he needs to do/to be somewhere else. 

I think since the season focused too much on Nath, Priya was one of the characters that got neglected and the sad part is that we actually had time in the last episodes that could had be filled with more trivia, more learning about her. We also didn’t get to meet her parents or family and get to know more about her past than what was said.

Hyun

Hyun is a character I didn’t expect to like on the long run but ended appreciating a lot. He become my second favorite after Priya. I think was the character that got me more confort looking at his illustrations. I wish I knew him better and I think he deserved more, it makes me feel bad that people look down on him as a character. 

He is really nice! I really have a change of heart with him. I get that the game will push him onto us, but he is not bad at all. He is really thoughtful and worries about Candy and has cute details with her. Also my boyfriend is like him *shot*. I don't really get the hate on him, I think is just because he is the most normal of the love interest, thus why people find him boring or plain (because he is not a rockstar, not a bad guy, not our teacher). 

So he is like "the safe guy" you choice in real life because he is not full of BS and drama, he is just normal and tame, and some people just want that, but I get that doesn't work as a fantasy for some people. He is the guy who is prepared for everything and is there for you if you need him. Still impressed to where Hyun finds the strength to organize a party after all the stress with the thesis and cook for a whole army.

Castiel

I have really few thoughts for Castiel since my Candy and him don’t liked each other much in high school and the few moments I came to feel ok with him was because he was Lysandre’s best friend (My Candy’s LI). He  really changed, he become more calm and collected and overall mature while he softened his original nature. It was a surprise he was not the first to start a fight but Nathaniel. I think I was lucky to spend time with him since he was more busy with his own life and personal business.

There were really sweet moments from him like when he give us his old MP3  while we are in the infirmary, and some more chill like when we are waiting for the oral presentation at the end of the season and we share some company. We also find that he tries something with Candy if we’re not dating him, so that was unexpected and thrilling, it was a surprise he have this feelings for Candy or he wondered for her all this time. On the bad side, he tried to patronize Candy sometimes or just butt in Candy’s business with unrequested help and I’m glad Candy called him out on that.

Rayan

I don't find him creepy, I was actually interested in him because I'm almost his age and I find also interest in more older characters like him. Also I reflected that I can relate to him in some personal stuff (My thing wasn't as tragic, but I can understand him). Sadly I think his personality type is not for me and that's why I was kinda disappointed. What I was thinking that could have worked better with him is that instead of making him feel interest for our character since the start, for me would be more natural that our character makes the first move instead. So in that way, people who wanted to go for him from the start could unlock this path and players who don't want that, just carry on without worrying about him. I understand that people could change his mind over the course of the game and choosing his path from the start could be extreme, but also the option in episode 8 was not better. I don't think that an option like the one I suggest is that crazy. Overall, I don't think he was creepy, he just feel odd for me, and everything happening with him in a romantic way just didn't make sense if you're not into him, even the drama is pointless. Also It's weird because I don't feel he is the creepy type at all, he was just victim of the writers who forced everyones to be in love with Candy from the start instead of just building a relationship more naturally. But yeah, they needed to move the story quickly, no time to bother that much.

Nathaniel

While revisiting my past notes about him, I more come to the conclusion that I really hated him and his guts in this season. It was worse because this whole season focus on him and how much he changed as a person. I was forced to deal with him and... I saw that as a waste of my time and AP.

I think Candy was really reasonable with him (I clearly remember how Candy would confront him and he just will go on circles and nonsense to try to avoid giving answers while acting like a poor lost soul). I also had to put with his nasty behavior and babysitting him when things got worse like when he was stabbed. Like at some point I couldn’t care less but the game would keep shoving him on my face.

I’m surprised myself of having a heavy negative opinion about him. The sad thing is that despite my Candy being dragged in his whereabouts, being dragged for other characters like Amber (because Candy is the salt of the earth) to look for him and all the things, at the end Nath manages to disentangle himself all alone without our help or presence needed, and I understand how disappointing that was.

Like I feel sorry for the poor souls who loved Nathaniel in HS just to have a alien put on his skin and be someone completely different. I know this change also helped to bring attention to new players who love this kind of characters or he acted as a replacement for the old players in the crowd who needed to fill the gap that the old deleted characters left.

Non-LI characters

Chani was my favorite and I think was the favorite for many on this season. She became one of Candy’s BF and she also is caring, smart and supporting. I loved her own whole aesthetic and vibe, I wish I could have such a good and interesting friend like her. The episodes I enjoyed the most involved her (included all the weird trio wet dream haha) and she actually make me feel better and reassured in general while confronting all the bad arcs and misfortunes of the season. She also gift to us a pretty amulet and was one of the few extra items we got for free like in the HS times.

Yeleen was a character than for starters I really wanted to get to know better and become friends with. It makes me sad all the hate she received and also I got myself some angry person calling me out for liking her (that was awkward buddy). But i loved her developed and how she changed as a person. The bad side is that I wished we could develop a more intimate relationship with her, but I’m happy with the good influence that was Candy for her and she take the bull by the horns at the end of the season. Her farewell letter was really touching.

A side character I liked from the beginning was Morgan because he was pretty handsome and I wish we knew more about him since he was also good vibes but got eclipseted when he becomes Alexy’s boyfriend. I still remember when we though he was Kentin in the trailer.

I don’t really have positive opinions for the rest of the cast or I just really don’t care much. The other character that got a bit of redemption in my eyes was Rosa. It was hard to be friends with her because how much she changed as a person but also how much her new self contradicted with her past self. It was worse because she was there supporting and cheering my relationship with Lysander since she was dating his brother Leigh in HS but in UL was pushing me to look somewhere else. It was also weird for me to be hanging of with Leigh but not Lysander when we weren’t that close to Leigh in the past. I still believe that what happened to Rosa (the drama!) It was done so that we felt pity and sympathy for her. The thing that probably make me feel better about her was when she organized that date at the beach for my Candy and Priya, it was sweet, it was the moment when I really felt guilty about how I feel about her.

We should talk about Amber and how much of a failed and inexistent redemption arc was that? Adding that when we got on the topic of cyberbullying she got to be on the spotlight but we couldn’t talk about what happened in HS. Also she was dragged my Candy around for the sake of Nathaniel and she also give us a big scare when she faints in that bathroom stall...

Favourite episode

For some reason, Episode 11 got good grades from my part as chillest long trip (I HAVE TO TRUST MY OWN SELF ON THIS) but of course Episode 16 was second best because the sex dates (If only we didn’t have to deal with Nath at the start of the episode...)

Episode 11 really got me thinking in a lot of things and make me remember some good memories. Chani was incredible in this episode, she really cares a lot about Candy. I wish a moment to chill right now the same way Candy and Chani go out to eat sushi and to the snake room, I miss doing this kind of things before Covid hit my country and everyone. In the same way, Chani has some very wise words to offer, things right now are so crazy and been stuck at home is just making everything just worse, taking care of you mental health is difficult, social media doesn't help either (Rosa did the smart call there deleting her social media) and fandom spaces right now are not doing that well.

In general, I enjoyed how chill was everything for Candy and how she focused more on herself than the rest of the world. Like I wish she focused more on herself that in trying to save the world. All with Castiel was a trip from start to finish. All the description of the new video got me thinking in whatever video from MTV from the 2000's! I'm also surprised with how smooth he was in the scene in the apartment, was not difficult to me to imagine all the situation, and for a moment I wanted, really wanted to go his way, but since Priya is waiting for me and because I didn't expect of my HS mate to be soo into Candy, I stopped and leave. Was a interesting develope. It also got me thinking how some old classmates would think very different of me right now that from the child I was 15 years ago.

An well, we got to the Priya's moment, and... I really don't get why all that jealousy with Tara haha, my Candy is not like that at all, BUT I really wished more time with her (I know, the drama), but this episode really got us the perfect ending we didn't get in the past episode, just my Candy chilling, hugging and kissing her beloved.

When I played episode 16 at first was with Priya and later did a replay with Hyun and honestly, Hyun date was bananas! I wish I could do all the dates to see how they play because all look cool on their own way. I didn't expect my Candy to be this horny for Priya (?).

After the traumatic events in the start of the episode, we get to chill with Chani because she is such a good friend and she also craft us an amulet to protect us from all the terrible things that happen   Everything gets better in our date with Priya. We celebrate that she would be able to do her bar exam and we spend the day chilling on the park chatting, but Candy falls asleep in the middle lol. Priya invite us to spend the night since her roomie left for vacation. Our Candy reveals she still owns her HS underwear (?) so she proceeds to buy new one (I know underwear is expensive but five years is a lot, those things have holes already). We cross paths with Hyun and is hilarious, he was so embarrassed lol. Back in our date, time to get really nervous. I'm loving that all this characters are now into horror (Thanks Chino!) and Priya propose to watch " The haunting of Hill House". Anyway, it was hilarious how everything played because Candy rEaLly WanT It! but at the end, Priya falls asleep and Candy is too self conscious of Priya sleeping half naked next to her that she couldn't close her eyes all night long. Then morning arrives and everything gets really hot and yeah, I didn't expect that Candy was that thirsty omg. Coolest ending.

Hyun date was bananas! I have to say it again because was so fun and cute all along: the fact that Candy surprised Hyun in the Cosy Bear since he have to work that day, that he is up to solve conflict with actual talking when we got a cheating scare, that he is a good person to helps people, even novices in online games. Yeah we also learned his weird thing for shoes that don’t reflect in his actual fashion lol. AND THE DATE! It was so hilarious that they were about to watch the wrong version of Toy Story! POOR HYUN! This dude was fucking prepared for the day, he brought everything in that magic bag, the ending was hot and satisfying, he really surprised me.

This was the indiscutible winner because despite there was great moments to talk about, this was the only that really make me feel actual excitement for this game (IS WEIRD I KNOW!).

Conclusions

Was I angry and disappointed when I started UL?

Yes

Have I made peace with it?

Yes, that’s what I wanted to achieve doing this. I also feel like there is not much I can do or think at this point, I’m kind of resigned.

Did this stop me from enjoying UL?

The “angry and disappointed” part sure played into my original run and perception of the game. I think that this was the case for many others since the wounds were open fresh at that time. But it really took me until the middle and end of the third season (!) to change my perspective (aka like 2-3 years later). I would said that after all that time what bothered me the most that was stopping my enjoyment of the game was how long it takes to play it for free and how that limits you from the whole game experience.

Would I have enjoyed it more if BV hadn’t done us so dirty?

Of course! I ended enjoying the change of tone. I do think many players were precisely looking forward to see our favorite characters in a different phase of their lives. When the company lied to us is when everything burned. I think is a matter of opinion at this point: if Lys, Armin and Kentin stayed, I wonder how people would have taken this whole season since there was a lot of negative critic and people saying that it was for the best that the old boys weren’t there because they probably would have ended totally changed like Nathaniel. They also could have ended in the back burner like the new LI’s and that also wouldn’t be fair. But I’m not sure how much of that negative critic is fueled by resentment or is biased by nostalgia since many didn’t bothered to play and just took what others were telling them without making their own opinion. For me was important to make my own opinion.

This season had their ups and downs, was hard to navigate with all the imposed changes, it was baffling to see how all the characters changed for good or bad, the dialogue options we got where I couldn’t relate at times especially at the begin, the thoughts on reflecting in all the very good things we got that also make me think I wished Lysander was around for all that.

I definitely don’t like the idea of replacing Lysander with Priya, both characters were unique in their own way and both deserved love and respect. Now that the first generation of My Candy Love ended it’s weird to be in this position were everyone is throwing a party around you in slow motion and feeling you don’t belong there because you weren’t lucky enough when picking your LI.

I was thinking on coming around at some point to play LL in the future (who knows) despite right now I don’t think I can make myself to do that and because I have the feeling that I will got more of what I got from UL. UL ending was fitting for me as a “what if...” My Candy got a different path in life where Lysander is not around and having the extra of looking forward to a happy bright future. I still sincerely wish that I could have had more than what we got.

I really care about your opinion, how do you feel about the bbc show and the way it's going?

I feel like before I give my take, I need to say that I understand the show is its own thing, and while I do wish they did a better job adapting certain things, I understand that sometimes there is a need for radical change or cut, especially when your budget is not super high (which HDM does have a lot of money into it, still is not a super big budget production, so they have to worry about these things). And I do enjoy many things about the show, but my overall vibe is mixed, to be honest. I’m stating this now because people often question whether I like the show or not, becaus I do criticise it a lot, and I simply have a critic view of the things I like, which is why I discuss them a lot and it can be overwhelming.

My main issues with the show are these 3 things: (which I’ll put under the cut because this got a bit longer than I wanted to lmao sorry)

Lack of worldbuilding and loose lore: I’ve been talking about this since day one, and this mostly applies to season 1 because I can’t judge season 2 yet because it’s not fully aired yet, but the show suffers from lack of worldbuilding, especially in Lyra’s world, which is the world that sets everything in motion. I still dislike the fact they introduced Will mid-NL, I don’t think he needed all those episodes to establish something that easily could’ve been done in S2 and because they gave TSK a lot of time, other parts of Lyra’s world suffered considerably, mainly the witches and the Magisterium.

The show doesn’t really expand on those two groups, especially, and I think that’s not good, especially the Magisterium (which they have over simplified by making it one big baddie, or so it seems at least, not to mention that implying a single leader for them practically ruins Marcel Delamare’s arc in TBOD and I’m very mad about that lmao). A lot of the Magisterium plot has that infighting aspect, which creates tension on their side as well as against their enemies, but the show doesn’t really explore that or the nuances of the Church, and they also don’t explore how varied the witches are, and I feel like this is a serious mistake. (The portrayal of the witches is by far my least favourite thing in the show, if I’m being honest).

Dull parallel world (and lack of daemons): this ties a bit with the worldbuilding aspect, but this is mainly about design choices. I think the show doesn’t make Lyra’s world as unique as it should be. On its own the world looks pretty and the outfits of most of the cast are great, but when you realise that Will’s world is intertwined with that, you don’t really feel like these two worlds are vastly different.

There is an odd situation in which Marisa’s fashion feels 30s/40s, but most of the men from her social circle (not fair to compare with the gyptians) just wear plain suits and they look much more modern. And while I get that they went for a timeless vibes, with different eras and styles, Lyra’s world feels like a caricature and it doesn’t feel believable. The colour palette is mostly the same for both worlds (even in s2, it’s hard to tell much of the difference because either the scenes are indoors or at night.) This, paired with the lack of daemons (which has been discussed many times in the fandom) kinda bums me out.

Marisa’s oversimplification: I’m mentioning Marisa, specifically, because she is the one that suffers the most due to this writing issues, but other characters like Lord Asriel, MacPhail, the general collective of the Witches, they all suffer from the writing trying to take away the nuances of them and make them flatter than in the book. Marisa is the worst because without her complexity and her flaws, she simply gets dull and boring and flavourless, and it’s kinda what has been happening in the show in my opinion. All she does is weep and she has no strength that doesn’t rely on a random fit of rage that dies out and she gets upset. There’s some great moments, like when she mimics the Monkey, but most of the time she’s just a shadow of who she is supposed to be.

The show tries really hard to make her a Scorned Mother - right from the get go, they try to makes us see how she wants Lyra, how she struggles with her “bad nature” and how that affects their relationship. There is this lingering implication that Lyra was taken from her against her wishes; they make it seem like being a mother to Lyra is her driving force, the only reason why she seeks power and influence. And that is the opposite of Book! Marisa, who is a force of nature, ruthless and ambitious, with not an ounce of maternal instinct.

She does eventually decide to help Lyra, instead of harming her, but even that action comes from a narcisistic place: Lyra is to her a possession, something that belongs to her, and that she wants to preserve. The show just handles her badly, falling into overused, boring tropes that struck far from the book version.

These are usually my main complaints about the show, and they upset me every episode to the point I’m practically ignoring them now lmao The show does a lot of good things too, making Will less of a prick, restoring Lyra’s personality from the first book into S2 Lyra (so far, please keep it that way), Mary is looking great too. They have mostly a great cast, and they did improve the daemons this season (except uh, there are far less daemons to show because of the other worlds - and the Ruta Skadi daemon change pisses me off tbh).

They do have a lot of interest in the show, but the writing (the main issue to me) feels clunky and childish, with the show toning down most of the themes that make His Dark Materials so special, especially to me (which frankly I expected them to do, but it still stings a bit). They make the Magisterium a single bad entity that feels more Authoritarian-Fascist, than a theocracy (even if they sneak in the religious symbols and rituals and garments, it’s just not a good portrayal, it’s very tame and shy); and they try to justify Marisa’s actions (especially in current interviews, there’s lots of talk about how her background will play in the show to “explain why she is the way she is”). The fact the Magisterium is portrayed as pure evil makes it looks less familiar than it should be, and therefore they don’t look scary, they seem like a caricature, a joke.

A lot of the essence of the characters get lost, and the core message of the story too, like when Iorek and the Gyptians tell Lyra she can be one of them, to support her lack of “proper family”, when that is the opposite of the books message. It doesn’t make sense for them to change that, other than maybe Jack Thorne wanted to because it makes the story feels less hopeless, but it’s why he fails to adapt these character - he doesn’t capture the essence, he tries to write these character with gaps in them.

However, the thing that annoys me the most is how they portray Asriel. It’s just... it’s bad. Really bad, which is a shame cause James is talented as fuck, but he had little time to film for season 1, and then they portrayed him very poorly. That scene when he addresses Roger in episode 7 is ridiculous, Asriel would never behave that way; there was relief in him finding Roger was there too, yes, but not to that extent and not in such a cringe way. Asriel is not deranged or irrational, he is a man on a mission, and Roger was a tool (there is no pleasure in Asriel taking his life and no excuses - it needed to be done and he did it); they just needed him to sound creepy in the show for whatever reason.

I hated how they handled the bridge scene for Asriel, Lyra and Marisa, but that’s long and complicated for me to explain here. In S2, there has been some mentions of him so far, including the implication he might have ruined Cittàgazze himself and I frankly don’t understand where did they get that idea. But the cherry on the top was Thorold telling Marisa that Asriel was gonna kill Lyra and that’s just-- that’s so dumb. That’s genuinely dumb writing, because Thorold knows Lyra followed Asriel to the mountain, and while I do believe Asriel would have killed Lyra if Roger wasn’t there, there is no way Thorold should know or consider that Asriel was gonna hurt Lyra, because Roger was there. In fact, Thorold’s interactions with Asriel in episode 8 already disprove this, so either Thorold was lying in S2 for the sake of, I don’t know, chaos or whatever, or the person who wrote this was a five-star, solid gold, fucking moron.

I’m not gonna mention the lost episode because that was no one’s fault, but the fact that they discarded an episode that all information we have on imply that it was important to set up the backstory of the angels and the city, it’s... concerning. It means they wrote something parallel that should’ve been woven into the season.

The truth is, I still watch the show on Sundays, and I still like some stuff they do (especially Mary’s stuff, so far), and despite me slandering the show per your request anon lol (cause unfortunately my honest opinion is mixed, I just don’t try to overfocus on the negative on Tumblr, I mostly talk about it on discord or private), I do think anyone who has read the books should watch the show.

For me, personally, everything I love about HDM is barely on the show - complex characters, the philosophy, the oppression by religion, the interesting world - and the vibe I get is that they’re adapting a coming-of-age love story, which is the last and - being fully honest - the least important message these books give us, but unfortunately they were set to making a family show from the start, and my expectations were high and unmatched, and a family is what we’re getting: toned down, cute, pretty visuals and soulless (heh, pun intended), philosophically speaking. I expect a certain pattern going into S3, but I always like to hold out hope that they will hire better writers (apparently Jack Thorne already wrote 4 scripts, so there you go lmao), and try to give HDM the adaptation it deserves. The truth is, if you’re a picky, canon reliant person like I am, the show might be a struggle, but if you just like the story for the teen romance, or if you don’t care about overthinking a show/book, then most people can have a good time with it.

Finished season 2 Umbrella Academy! Now I can follow people again :D Thoughts and spoilers under cut.

Okay, so Five totally carried this season for me. He was my fave in the comics then Klaus was my fave in S1 of the show but Five has pulled ahead in this season. I love that murderbunny. I hope they never go too heavy on the ‘I don’t want to kill anymore’ angle because I don’t watch shows like this for pacifist brooding from characters like him. I like the fireaxes, the blood, the threat of homicidal rage.

Allison was an absolute badass this season. Like, she was last season so it shouldn’t surprise me but what I like about her that differs from the rest is that she is so much more capable of exercising her awesomeness outside of Academy business. I know in a way it’s the nature of the powers, but also it’s just a willingness to get involved in the world and the ability to socialise with normal people. The rest of them really struggle with that.

Diego was a big disappointment. They blasted out the daddy issues stuff without subtlety or sympathy early on and every so often hammered at it when they wanted a quick angst moment. Felt kind of hamfisted. I didn’t understand him this season. Falls for Lila when she’s basically acting like a Klaus stand-in then decides he’s in love with her, is obsessed with the president suddenly... that would make more sense if he’d been stuck with some anti-Communist group or something, or gone more military like in the comics, but here it was really random. And they tried to just say ‘hero complex’ whenever it came up, as if it explained it. They could have had him with a cellmate with an obsession with the president or something in the hospital, talking his ear off about it until he adopted some of that mental illness, but instead it just... came from nowhere.

Kinda mad Lila survived and got away. I found her quite annoying. Though I had laughed before S2 about what if she was one of the Umbrella kids as well, knowing she’d be Diego’s love interest, so that’s quite funny. 

I liked Cissy and her decision to stay was quite frustrating. Like, 2020 sucks but it’s better than leaving a trail of dead in the 60s with your misunderstood son, especially if you’ve got a girlfriend like Vanya taking you to the future.

Ray, oh Ray. He deserved so much better! I would have liked to see more of him. His relationship with Allison was really sweet and they didn’t do him wrong to make Allison’s departure an easy choice, which is good.

Klaus... meh. Episode 5 and 10 I loved him again, but a lot of this season he was just arguing with Ben. Always a risk when they were giving Ben more prominence and he can only speak to Klaus, but Klaus riffs off of the group better. Isolating him for half the season from the rest didn’t give him much time to shine. His cult plotline was the emotional equivalent of the comic arc where he gets too big for his boots, so I see why they did that. But I missed his aesthetic from season one a lot. He was so pretty in the last ep. 

I liked Ben more this season, though I did cackle at the evil goatee at the end.

Reginald... meh, it really upset the understanding I thought I had of his character, which is that he was an abusive twat because he was so invested in saving the world. Season 2 makes it clear he just... really hates children. 

Vanya, I honestly wish I could just block out fandom from the moment a new series is announced because everything that was being said around her plot sounded so shit but then watching it in context I loved it. I do think she’s erring on the side of too powerful for plot, but I assume the other powered people will have comparable strength to her. 

Luther had ups and downs. I would have liked him to have more of a role, get more growth as a character. He was often used as comedy relief and made to seem kind of stupid, which is a depressing direction. 

Also the Handler! I love her! I was so glad to see her back, didn’t expect it at all. And her outfits, damn. The spiderweb collar. I love her. Manipulative queen bitch.

Pairing-wise, I know I’m in the minority already as a shipper, but it was a shame to see so little interaction between Klaus and Diego. Especially in episode 6, which was my least favourite, when Diego tonelessly suggests Klaus is overdosing and does nothing about it. Like, even if I didn’t ship them that seems so out of character. This season made protective Diego seem like something fandom made up. I’m also super happy that they made it clear that these characters are not biologically related, that things are complicated and their dynamics are not normal or based in the real world. It’s always so strange to me when people complain about pairing any of them off, as if they’re supposed to represent healthy normalcy. Even platonically they are all very very strange. I can see sibling-esque relationships for some and not for others. Also, did not expect to hear Klaus speculating on whether Five’s gonna be hot and Allison trying to shut it down before it goes places XD That made me howl. I also thought the Alluther was handled well. Like, it’s complicated and awkward. That’s fine. Pairings don’t have to be fully resolved or overwhelmingly romantic, they can be confusing and messy and difficult. Speaking of messy, Handler/Five still seemed like it was being teased at, like maybe she had a thing for his older self. I can’t imagine him reciprocating though. 

Overall, I enjoyed it. Not perfect, but nothing ever is.

a few thoughts on the phantom menace after my first adult rewatch 

1. this movie is fun. i can’t stress enough that it’s just enjoyable to watch if you’ve taken off your “prequels bad” goggles. ten year old me was right 

2. i always loved qui-gon, and i like the way that you can see his influence in obi-wan. while he’s an unconventional jedi who does things “his own way” and has not been offered a council position because of this, he still fits within the rules enough that he... you know... doesn’t make big waves. maybe in the council and the order, but not outside of it. 

if anakin weren’t force sensitive, i’m sure that he would have felt bad leaving him as a slave on the desert planet, but it seems like he would have accepted it as one of those things that he can’t change. 

he’s also kind of a dick. while he’s clever and kind enough to figure out how to spare jar-jar from whatever punishment awaited him, he was also insanely condescending towards him and like, just kinda continues to be. also, his flip-flopping on whether or not obi-wan is ready to be a full jedi seems natural of a parent who’s not quite ready to let go of their child until he absolutely has to (or has found something that needs his attention more right now) which is an interesting trait. i think that it’s really cool that he’s not just Cool Jedi Man but also, like, has flaws. maybe they’re not addressed overtly in the narrative, but i’m here, looking at them through my critical adult eyes. 

3. i don’t think i actually picked up on the fact that palpatine orchestrated this as a plot to become chancellor as a kid, but like. wow. the ear whispering. the posturing. the controlling both sides. the sheer SHEEVERY of it all. what an absolute dickwad. i love that manipulative jackass. had his own planet invaded so that he could manipulate his young queen into getting him a promotion. 

4. i thought it did a really good job of establishing place. while tatooine is a place we already knew and they didn’t have to do much to establish what it was like beyond There Are Slaves Too and PODRACING, naboo and coruscant were both more complicated, but they spent the time with both of them for us to get a feel for what their geography and architecture was like, along with some of naboo and senate politics.

5. the gungan situation is interesting, but the made up dialect and jar-jar being... jar-jar... are still issues for me. i think that they drive the movie down, despite the interesting aspect of the politics between the two peoples and them coming together 

6. however, the gungan architecture was GORGEOUS and the sequences underwater were all enthralling. add this to coruscant, the senate room, all of naboo’s overworld (with it’s gorgeous architecture that hints at, you know, colonialism) and the really cool way the podracing was set up, this did some really great visual things. 

7. costumes! i wouldn’t say that anyone outside of naboo had really interesting costumes, but of course the naboo have their super interesting, stylized look. not all of the queen’s outfits are hits, but they sure are loud and bold 

8. i’m mostly impressed with anakin’s actor, actually. he plays well off of shmi and qui-gon, who both had great parent chemistry with him. i almost cried when i saw how hard it was on shmi to let him go. 

his apprehension and nerves in front of the council really made me feel like he was scared. his interactions with padme are the least believable because of bad dialogue and them just. not really knowing how to play it because they were supposed to hint that they would eventually be The Couple but anakin’s actor clearly did not know how to play a crush and natalie portman was like. uh, i wanna pinch his cheeks? i guess? 

i also thought that some of the cutesy dialogue while anakin was off shooting in space was meh, but like. if we’re leaning into it go all out. it wasn’t BAD, just kinda campy. 

9. the qui-gon, obi-wan, maul fight was well choreographed, and i think that it shows obi-wan’s moment of almost turning very well. then him cradling qui-gon and having his master’s dying wish be for him to train anakin, who he was a little wary of and you can tell also a little resentful of for getting so much of qui-gon’s attention is really interesting. 

10. however, i don’t think that the complicated feelings of obi-wan being forced to care for a child that he wasn’t completely on board with having that his master was going to kind of abandon him over were ever really brought up again in the narrative, like, even the clone wars. which is a crying shame. 

anakin and obi-wan were clearly not comfortable with each other when obi-wan became his master, and while obi-wan lost his only parental figure, anakin lost both a budding parental figure and had recently been ripped away from his mother, and neither of them are really prepared for this new relationship. 

what i’m saying is that obi-wan and anakin’s relationship is COMPLICATED and not entirely pretty, and i wish that had been explored more. 

11. i still think that naboo electing queens and then having that queen be fourteen years old is dumb. the handmaidens thing is badass though and i wish we had gotten more of that. also, my favorite padme moments are either when she’s doing the politics or telling qui-gon that the queen won’t like this and him going “well, the queen doesn’t have to know” and her pouting about it. 

12. i’m not really bothered by the midichlorians thing. i dunno, i think it’s a cool explanation that works to explain them knowing that anakin has So Much Force

13. as an adult who has experienced bureaucracy, i can now say that yeah, the jedi council actually WOULD have said that there’s no way this nine year old could become a jedi. they would say that it’s just not done and that they refuse to try to make an exception for him, and that he already has too many attachments and cannot properly become One Of Us. 

they also would assume that him being a scared kid who misses his mom is both 1. his fault and 2. proof that he’s going to turn to the dark side, which somehow is his fault as a scared nine year old.  anakin skywalker deserves better and there are many issues with the jedi order, but the issues are realistic. 

14. i’m watching the rest of the movies over the next few days, and i’m interested to see how i feel about attack of the clones. i watched rots a few years ago, but attack of the clones has been at least five years back and i think i was on my laptop for it.

JVTFOE:  1B: Junior Jitters

 Today will be the first day for everyone. Tom’s never been to a high school or any kind of school in his life. And for the other three, it would be their first day of being a junior. Oh how time flies by.

The four teenagers all planned to meet in front of the school in the morning to share schedules and help Tom go where he needs to go. 

Tom and Janna were on their way to the Echo-Mewni Academy. Janna chose to wear the same shirt she always wears, pale blue jacket, yellow shorts, brown combat boots and of course, her olive green beanie.Tom had his usual outfit on though he wished he did switch it up a bit like Janna did, but it didn’t bother him too much, he was satisfied with what he was wearing. 

“Man why does school have to be so early? Couldn’t they just change the time to like 10am or something?” Tom complained. 

“I wish it was that easy, but high school has always started at 7am. Besides if we were here any later it would be chaos.” Janna explained. 

“Ya know, we should be able to pick what classes we want to take and then have times available for whenever we want to come. I feel like that would be a LOT easier.” Tom said.

“That’s college, which isn’t that far from us either.” Janna sighed. 

The two were almost to the school when they saw two other familiar faces. Star and Marco were standing their waving at them, but Star looked a little different. She had dark blue jumper with a white collared shirt. But something else was different, she cut her hair..really short.

“Oh! Looks like Star cut her mane!” Tom joked. 

The blonde looked over and then waved to Janna and Tom. “Hi Janna! Hi Tom!”

Janna felt her face get hot and her heart start to pound. She actually didn’t think she was gonna do it. Star said she was gonna try something new for this school year and that she was gonna cut her hair short. Janna teased her how she wasn’t going to but sure enough, she did. It didn’t help that Janna still had complicated feelings for her, even though she knew how to hide it very well. She hated it honestly, she knew Star was happy with Marco and it would be a waste of time convincing her otherwise. 

The Filipina girl grumbled in frustration with her overwhelming thoughts. Tom looked over at Janna, a bit confused actually. “You don’t like it? I thought you were the one who suggested she should.” 

“No no, I like it. It’s something else.” Janna stated, veering away from telling him what the real issue was.

The four teenagers gathered by the front of the school and talked about their schedules and what lunches they had. As they all hoped, nothing had changed and they all had the same lunch period. 

“Ya know, I think we should show Tom the ropes of school. I’m pretty sure they didn’t have that in the underworld.” Marco stated.

“Yeah, I’m not really sure how this works, only from what you guys have said.” Tom said fiddling with his schedule. This was gonna be interesting teaching him about earth school, then again he wouldn’t be the only one having this experience. But having all of us together who knows how this was gonna play out. 

“I’m kinda nervous about this, this place looks kinda different from what I remember..I guess maybe because I’ve only been here once a long time ago.” Tom continued. 

“Don’t worry man, we got your back. Once you’ve got the jist of school, it’ll just be a regular dumb routine you do for nine months.” Janna said. 

“Yeah after the first few weeks it won’t be as scary as it looks. We’re all kinda adjusting to this new combined situation.” Marco agreed.

Tom grinned, he liked Marco’s words of reassurance but he was still really nervous. “Hey, I’ll show you around, it really isn’t as bad as it looks.” Janna said, bumping Tom’s arm with her elbow. Tom looked down at the short Filipina girl. “You would? Thanks Janna!” Tom said. She smiled and motioned him to follow her into the building. “We’ll catch you guys at lunch or whatever.” She said to Star and Marco. 

Janna knew if those two were to show Tom around the school, they wouldn’t stop talking about themselves and unintentionally rubbing their relationship in his face. She rather her and Tom awkwardly walk around the school than him be more hurt than he is now.

“And this is the detention room, one year I was in there for almost two months, then they just had me to do community service because our teacher was tired of sending me to detention.” Janna explained.

“Geez, Why did they keep sending you?” Tom asked. Janna put her hands in her jacket pockets. “Various reasons, I was a bad kid. But it was mostly because I didn’t care.” She said. 

Tom looked inside the window of the door, he saw a few kids just staring at the wall in front of them. Then he saw one curled up in a corner, gods know what they were saying. “This looks..depressing.” He said frowning. 

“Yeah it was to be completely honest, but Star would come in some days and it would be really fun.” Janna said leaning against the hallway wall. “We’d always do some dumb shit to pass time and made being there not so bad. Sometimes I thought she went in because she didn’t want to be in class.” She continued.

“Well, maybe because you were there also. You two seem to have a good time together regardless.” Tom said turning to Janna. 

Janna bit her lip trying not to say something smart about her. Knowing what he said hit hard but she knew he didn’t know it made her upset.

“Yeah, they were the good ole days. Sort of.” She said. Tom saw her smile fade after he said that. Did he say something that upset her? Maybe it was that she misses hanging out with Star all the time. If anything, he knew how horrible that feeling is. 

“Hey Janna! Is that your boyfriend?” Someone behind them called out. It was Starfan13.

Both the girl and demon boy jumped by the sudden question. Janna was immediately irritated. 

“Us? No no no, we’re just friends.” Tom answered. 

The girl grinned and pushed up her glasses. “Uh huh, that’s what they all say at first?” She said and walked away.

“Man, I don’t know we’re doing anything..couple-y, right?” Tom asked. 

“No. We weren’t.” Janna said. “We don’t have to, to have these bozos ship us together.” 

Tom frowned. “Welp, lets just hope no one else does it to us then.”

Later that day the two met Star and Marco at the cafeteria for lunch. They all sat at one of the tables in the middle of the room after they got their lunch. 

“This place is kinda weird, it has rooms for almost anything here.” Tom said holding his sandwich. Janna snickered as Marco chuckled. “Well, there are now more than five thousand students here, they definitely did a lot of remodeling.” He explained. 

“Hm, I guess that makes sense.” Tom said. 

There was a brief silence as the four ate their food. The cafeteria was filled with a variety of humans and monsters, all sitting together and groups and couples. A handful of them where even sitting outside because it was getting so full.

Janna sees some old friends walking towards her way. It was Ferguson and Alfonso.

“Hey! Guys!” Janna yelled waving her arm in the air. The two boys notice her and wave back. “Hey Janna! Long time no see.” Ferguson said walking towards her table. “Marco? Star? How’ve you guys been?” Alfonso asked.

Marco wrapped his arm around Star. “We’ve been doing great!” He said as Star nodded. “It’s been perfect, and I know it’ll be like this forever.” Star said softly, looking at Marco.

The two boys aww’d, Janna groaned and rolled her eyes.

“Oh come on Janna. You can’t pretend you’re the same way with your boyfriend.” Furguson said.

Janna froze. “Haha...what?”

“Yeah aren’t you and Tom dating?” Alfonso asked.

“Oh my god- Why would you guys think we’re dating? We’re just friends man!” Janna said in an irritated tone.

“Yeah man, Janna and I are just friends. I don’t even see her that way. Plus, I’m not really into girls that are mean to me, to be completely honest.” Tom added.

“Janna is a ‘play hard to get’ kind of girl, if she’s mean to you, that means she cares.” Furguson said.

“No it doesn’t actually, like at all.” Janna said.

“Besides, Marco and Star said they were just friends in the beginning, and look at them now. They’re a great example of a best friends to lovers scenario.” Furguson added.

Janna’s eye was twitching and her hand was in a fist. She was trying so hard not say something mean. Especially since the prime example was sitting right next to her. Tom was feeling quite uncomfortable how confident these two were that him and Janna were gonna be a thing.

 As the two boys walk away, Janna and Tom turn to the couple. “Now look what you’ve done.” Janna joked. Was she really joking though?

“Hey! We didn’t know people were looking up to us!” Star laughed.

“But, why do they think we’re dating though? We’re not doing anything that show signs of that.” Tom said.

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure Tom wouldn’t want to date someone who can put cameras in someone's body.” Marco said.

Janna unclenches her fist. “First of all, it was one time. Second of all, it was for a very good reason.” Janna states.

Marco’s eyes widen and throws his arms up. “Wh- WHAT GOOD REASON-”

“Yeah anyways,  we’re not even best friends. No offense.” Janna interrupted.

“No no, I understand.” Tom said.

“I’m not sure either, but don’t listen to them. Don’t let them ruin your friendship because they want you guys to be a thing.” Marco said.

It’s taking everything in Janna to not say something smart, because that’s literally how him and Star got together.

“It’s easier said than done, ya know.” Janna sighed.

To her it feels like she can’t have a guy friend without people thinking they’re a thing. It’s so irritating that not even her friends listen to her when she tells them to leave them alone.

 Finally the day was over and the gang were making their way out the door. It was quite exhausting but at least it’s over now. They were almost out of the building until suddenly Starfan13 jumped right in front of them. She had some papers that were stapled and written on. This could only mean one thing.

“Guys, look! I wrote some fanfiction about you guys.``she blurted out. 

Janna already felt her blood boiling, she thought she told her not to write about her anymore. Especially right now about her and Tom. She was so fed up with a lot of her friends today it was hard for her to be chill about anything at the moment, or act like it wasn’t a big deal, like the reputation she’s been trying to put on for the past few years.

When Starfan13 was about to hand her a stack, Janna put her hand in front of it and pushed it away from her. “ Dude, I told you, we’re not a thing.” She said sternly and pulled her hand away.

“Oh come on Janna! You can’t deny you at least like him!” Starfan teased.

Star walked up to the two girls. “Janna it’s okay! She wrote fanfics about Marco and I all the time, it’s not anything bad.” Star said. 

Janna deeply inhaled. “Are you not understanding the difference here? You two LIKED each other. I don’t like Tom like that at all and I don’t feel comfortable with her making scenarios about us romantically! I’m pretty sure he feels uncomfortable too.”

“Okay but this isn’t anything to make a scene about!” Star said irritably.

Janna’s eye wided out of disbelief. She didn’t even try to make a scene, she didn’t want to. If she was really looking for attention, She would’ve ripped it up or smacked it out of her hand. As mad as she already was with everyone else, she didn’t have the heart to.

Janna sneakered. “I’m going home, I’m done.” She said and walked towards the door. 

Star tried to catch her before she left.“Janna wait! This isn’t something to take personal-”

“Don’t talk to me!” Janna raised her voice and went out the door.

The rest of the group was silent for a second. “Starfan, I’m sorry she yelled at you.” Star said.

The brunette stared at the floor. “No, she has the right to be mad. She told me not to do it and I did it anyways.” She said.

Tom didn’t even know what to say, he was shocked at Janna didn’t explode since he could sense how tense she was. But he felt like he would be the only one to try to calm her down and talk to her. 

“Hey, I’m gonna go too. I’ll see you guys tomorrow!” Tom said walking his way to the exit.

When Tom walked out of the school he found Janna sitting on the grass in the courtyard. She was cradling her face in her arms and had her legs up to her chest. Him talking to him will either make it better or worse, but it was worth a try.

Tom walked towards her and sat beside her. “Hey..” He said nervously.

Janna automatically recognized his voice. “What do you want.” She said, still having her head down.

He already knew it was gonna be hard to have her talk. He didn’t even know what to say to her.

“I know your frustration, it sucks when people won’t leave you alone about your personal life.” He started.

Janna sighed and put her head up. Her eyes and face were a little red, she was really upset about this.

“I feel like every time I’m friends with a guy, people harass me about getting together with him or the guy wanting to go out with me. It’s like I’m not allowed to have guy friends without some expectation of stupid romance going on. I know they might’ve been joking around, but it still irritates me to no end.”

Tom was surprised that she was telling him all this, they’re not even that close. He didn’t even know that she was holding all that inside.He doesn’t blame her though, he can see why she would feel uncomfortable and pressured to give in.

“ Yeah, I don’t blame you for feeling that way. I was kinda uncomfortable how persistent those guys were. It’s like they don’t take ‘no’ for an answer.” Tom said. 

They were quiet for a few seconds. Janna started to feel a little better that her and Tom were really on the same page.  She knew that he wouldn’t take those things lightly either, but she was mad at a lot of people right now. 

“I’m glad you understand how I feel.” She started. Tom looked down at her, seeing her faintly smile. “ You know, you’re not really so bad of a guy.” She said looking up at him.

Tom wasn’t really expecting approval, however he was glad she was feeling better and that they could possible start a friendship.

Not much later, Star spotted the two sitting against the wall. She felt bad for what she said earlier, she realized shortly after what she said was kinda insensitive. Plus Janna isn’t the only to get mad, so she knew it was bad.

“Hey guys.” Star said walking towards them. Janna and Tom looked up at the blondie. Janna was still kind of mad at her and she wasn’t gonna hide it, but she wasn’t gonna ignore her and make things worse.

Star crouched down in front of them. “Janna, I know you probably don’t want to talk right now, but I’m sorry for being a jerk earlier. I didn’t know that stuff bothered you so much.” She said.

She really didn’t want to hear it, however it was nice that she was acknowledging what she said was a jerk move. Really the ones who should be apologizing were Starfan and the boys. But at this point,who knows if they even realized it made her and Tom uncomfortable.

“No one likes being pressured into things Star, I don’t want people telling me who to date because they want me to.” Janna said crossing her arms.

“Yeah, I understand that and I feel really bad for not thinking of it that way.” Star said.

“Ya know, today wasn’t a total disaster. Janna and I actually had a lot of fun checking out the school, and we learned a few things about each other. She’s not too bad of a gal.” Tom said.

“Yeah I liked hanging out with you today, it was pretty cool.” Janna said.
