THE MUSE

layla’s parents met in nemean lion years before her birth ;  a daughter of tyche and a son of eris ,  the two fell in love during their time at nl and though it’s been long since their last visit ,  the campus has been a second home to layla ever since she was little  ---  for safety reasons ,  of course .

from a very young age ,  layla knew that she was special .  her parents made a conscious effort to make sure the girl never lost sight of who she was and what she could do ,  and to always use her abilities for good .  her father was particularly cautious of that ,  seeing as his daughter had the same capabilities for discord as he did ,  and knowing how much trouble he caused during his first few years at nl .  because of that ,  layla has never felt out of control when it came to her abilities ;  in fact ,  it was quite the opposite .

while her father’s side of the family was a bit more troublesome ,  her mother’s side was incredibly fun !  ever since she was a child ,  layla found herself interested in everything that had to do with luck ,  probability and chance ,  which eventually led to her fascination with one subject in particular: gambling .

around the age of twelve ,  she began gambling around nl .  at first ,  the bets were little and simple:  a pack of gum ,  a snack from just dough it or a meal at jake’s diner ,  things of the sort .  at worst ,  she’d use her disruption power to make the loser unable to control their gifts for hours ,  which might have led to a little trouble a few times . however ,  as layla got older ,  the bets started becoming a little more extreme ,  often including large quantities of money .  naturally ,  people lost interest in the games ,  especially since they were going against a granddaughter of tyche ,  and layla decided it was time for a change  ---  so she left nl for a while .

during her time away from campus ,  layla made money .  a lot of money .  poker and any other form of gambling had quickly become her favorite pastime ,  mainly because of the thrill of betting and risking it all ,  except she never lost to anyone .  not because she used her powers to win ,  as the mere thought of rigging the games angered and disgusted her ,  but because it simply never happened .  it could be frustrating at times ,  especially after people in the business started digging up information of her .

years after making a name for herself in casinos around the world and in the public poker scene ,  people started learning more and more about layla ,  who’d kept her godly heritage a secret until now .  eventually ,  information leaked about the girl and on how one of her grandmothers was the goddess of fortune ,  which resulted in people calling layla a scammer ,  removing all sponsorships and opening multiple lawsuits against the girl ( which didn’t end up terribly for her ,  but that didn’t help fix her reputation either ) .  

half a year ago ,  after her little scandal and as means of keeping herself out of trouble ,  layla returned to nl for the first time in a long while .  she’s been keeping herself busy by working in the business department ,  striking big deals that bring in money and “playing” with the stock market .  she swears she’s never cheated or rigged any game in her life ,  but until someone or something is able to prove her innocence ,  you won’t be finding her gambling anytime soon  ---  at least not in the public eye .

MISC.

she is so ,  so smart .  above average IQ ,  definitely one of the best students in nl history besides the athena kids lmao .  oh ,  and she definitely loves to remind people of just how smart she is .  kind of a snob tbh .

knows a lot and has dirt on lots of people .  she’s literally one of those people who just ends up eavesdropping on accident and then laughs about it .

she legit never rigged any of her games ,  not even when she was tired and bored from winning so much .  in fact ,  there was a time she purposefully indebted herself so that the games would become more exciting  ---  after all ,  she needed money .

kind of a hard person to befriend ?  she won’t approach you unless you’re doing something she judges weird or a waste of time ,  but she will engage into conversation if you seem “smart enough” .  again ,  she’s a bit of a snob .

Heyo! So, I DO in fact ship RemRom, but only a little bit. I more of kinda just stay away from it and I don't like it when shippers bully anti's, and I don't like it when anti's bully shippers. I think we all should just try to let everything go. Anyways, I DO have siblings, BUT I have never thought of my brother or my sister in a romantic or sexual way. I just think RemRom is cute. by the time mari was a freshmen in high school, her parents had divorced and she finally thought she could have a normal school experience and make something for herself

obv not. her mother shipped her off to a boarding school in nevada and that was it; her sister had already graduated and her brother was still in middle school.

it was finally just mari.

of course like she tried to suck up to others but it wasn’t really helpful, everybody was a lil too boujie for her and she always froze up when she tried to speak to the ~popular kids~

they only rly spoke to her b/c she’s got this knack for forging shit, like i dont think she even has her own handwriting; she always copies other people’S b/c she’s just. so used to tryn to mimic others n be them as much as possible

around this time she found herself fucking around in her computer class more often than not; it’d been the only elective left b/c she arrived in the middle of the year

her shift into programming to hacking was subtle but before she knew it, she was fucking around on websites for the fun of it. never anything severe

that was until her sophomore year and there was another loser fucking around on the computers during lunchtime

and like...they just started kinda talking, y’know? became friends, prolly mari’s first legitimate friend in...forever, really

they failed like, super miserably, got arrested for trespassing and had to be bailed out of the county jail by their parents

Last thing I googled: I googled stuff about Tchaikovsky being gay because. my music theory teacher mentioned it in class today and I was really surprised that I’d never know that about him because he’s such a famous composer. So yeah I just did a bit of research on that because I thought it was cool (but actually depressing because of course he was closeted and at the end of his life being forced to hide that part of him kind of killed him.)

Last movie I watched: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. It was meh but I was on my period and needed to watch a sappy early 2003’s rom com. Also I recently watched Postcards From the Edge and it was great.

Last TV show I watched: The Crown. I watched it over two days during winter break and it was AMAZING. I cannot wait until the next season.

What do you post: Um honestly so much different stuff? Stuff from fandoms and shows I like, some social justice things, basically stuff I enjoy and find interesting? Star Wars, Parks and Rec, some Sherlock, etc. Honestly at this point this blog is less about increasing my follower count of like 5 real people and more about having a place to store/record stuff so I can look at it later.

Hogwarts house: Ravenclaw Pokémon team: I didn’t play Pokémon Go actually! I didn’t watch it as a kid and I felt like it would take up too much storage and data on my phone so I just kinda skipped that craze.

Why did you choose your URL: I looked up a list of some of the prettiest words in the English language and I like luminesce and so I just put “unending” in front of it because it kind of made it better. It kinda reminds me of lying in the sand on the beach and night and stargazing? Kinda specific but basically it’s a pretty word that evokes happy memories.

When you created this blog: Spring Break 2015 I think? I was on a long car ride and bored so I just kinda did it. Do you get asks regularly: Heck no! I don’t remember ever getting one? Maybe like once or twice? I wish I got more though :)

What did your past relationship teach you: I haven’t really had a serious one yet? I mean I’ve learned from being single that I tend to want a relationship for validation and that’s bad so I’ll have to watch out for that in the future.

Religious or Spiritual: Born and raised Catholic. It’s a pretty big part of me but recently I’ve had trouble reconciling some of the church’s teaching and my political views. It’s really tough branching out from your parents and what they’ve taught you and learning more and becoming more liberal and progressive while still maintaining your spiritual life if that makes sense?
