In 1908, Japanese chemist Masataka Ogawa announced that he had discovered the 43rd element and named it nipponium (Np) after Japan (Nippon in Japanese). In fact, he had found element 75 (rhenium) instead of element 43: both elements are in the same group of the periodic table.[12][13] Ogawa's work was often incorrectly cited, because some of his key results were published only in Japanese; it is likely that his insistence on searching for element 43 prevented him from considering that he might have found element 75 instead. Just before Ogawa's death in 1930, Kenjiro Kimura analysed Ogawa's sample by X-ray spectroscopy at the Imperial University of Tokyo, and said to a friend that "it was beautiful rhenium indeed". He did not reveal this publicly, because under the Japanese university culture before World War II it was frowned upon to point out the mistakes of one's seniors, but the evidence became known to some Japanese news media regardless. As time passed with no repetitions of the experiments or new work on nipponium, Ogawa's claim faded away.

The story

HELIOS, shortly after the 13th training team was established――

North Sector, which had been proudly ranking first in the Sector Ranking, encounters unforeseen challenges. Because of North's drop in the ranking, Marion, the youngest mentor in history, feels humiliated and is unable to control his emotions nor his frustration. Victor, the other mentor, is only interested in researching substances, and while Gast, their rookie, struggles to fix the team, Ren, the other rookie, is obsessed with revenge against Eclipse, the ones who killed his sister and parents.

The group is far from united.

As though matching the state of this divided team, the city's security deteriorates and problems arise one after another.

On top of that, an Eclipse member called "Zero" begins to appear in North City…

Artist, Fantasy inventor, Digital Shamanist

Etsuko Ichihara is Japanese artist. Born 1988 in Aichi. Graduated in Studies of Media, Body and Image from the School of Culture, Media and Society, Waseda University. She has been creating artworks that interpret Japanese culture, customs and beliefs from a unique point of view, and present new, technology-based approaches. Thanks to their strong impact, these works have been introduced across a wide range of media all over the world, such as newspapers and TV programs, radio programs, and magazines. Ichihara’s works were included in the Excellence Award at the 20th Japan Media Arts Festival, Entertainment Division in 2017, and in 2016, chosen for the INNOvation program from The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. She won Honorary Mention (Interactive Art＋) in PRIX Ars Electronica 2018 and received a STARTS Prize Nomination in the same year recently. She has recently presented her works in exhibitions such as ‘Digital Shamanism: Japanese Funeral and Festivity’ at NTT InterCommunication Center [ICC], ‘Cyber Arts Exhibition 2018’ at Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Japan Media Arts Festival, ‘Mediating Asia’ at National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, ‘Roppongi Crossing 2022’ at the Mori Art Museum.

Musical "Allegiance" will be streamed globally with an after-talk show and a special backstage video!

The musical "Allegiance", which was performed at Tokyo International Forum Hall C in March 2021, has been decided to be streamed online.  This is the first performance with a Japanese cast of the Broadway musical about a Japanese-American family living in the United States during World War II. In this memorable Japanese premiere, Megumi Hamada and Naoto Kaiho, who are leading figures in the world of musicals, played the roles of a Japanese-American sister and brother, and the talented cast included Masataka Nakagauchi, Mayuko Kominami, Tsunehiko Kamijo, Tomohiko Imai, and Toru Watanabe. One day, the Japanese-Kimura family, living as Americans in the land of the free, were suddenly declared enemies of the state just because they were "Japanese-Americans" and were transported to an internment camp. Who do you pledge allegiance to and what do you believe in? The story draws people who are denied their identity, but still struggle to find hope and move forward. The Kimura family is at the mercy of the turbulent times. It is a moving story that depicts the division and rebirth of the family who stick to their beliefs. In addition to the main part of the performance, there will be an after-talk show of Megumi Hamada, Naoto Kaiho, Masataka Nakagauchi, and Mayuko Kominami, and a backstage tour video with commentary by Naoto Kaiho and the stage director.

[Regarding Streaming] Producer's Comment This work is based on the history of 120,000 people of Japanese descent who were labeled as "enemy aliens" and forced to live harsh lives in internment camps due to an executive order signed by U.S. President Roosevelt in 1942. Although it is still fresh in our minds that President Biden issued a statement in February of this year apologizing again for the Executive Order, it is also a page of history that is not widely known. In this year that marks the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, we have decided to stream the stage with the sincere hope that people will feel it as their own story, as a message that can be understood even today, aiming for a world without discrimination. Furthermore, as a universal family story, the stage will be streamed not only in Japan but also overseas. At this time of the year, which also coincides with the anniversary of the end of the war, we hope that people will watch this stage that portrays the importance of freedom, peace and family bonds, and pass it on to future generations.
