Controversial take here but: the horrible and horrific things Maven had done wouldn’t have been overlooked or forgiven by the fandom if Maven wasn’t attractive.

What brainrot would they use 😭

Mare - Slay on occasion, had to explain to Cal what gyatt meant once and was dying laughing.

Cal - He'd use "Rizz" as a joke sometimes, I know this isn't technically brainrot but l anytime he heard "21" he'd do the voice. If you know you know.

Kilorn - Everything possible. Mostly to annoy people at first but then it became a habit and he was saying it in his sleep. Regularly texts the Scarlet Guard mission group starting with "chat" ("Chat I'm literally about to die lol can someone come help")

Cameron - Regretting her life decisions after hearing Kilorns brainrot yapping.

Farley - Said "slay" exactly once after Mare said it and has never said anything ever again.

Shade - Got kicked out of the house one night for saying "skibidi"

Gisa - Rizz, delulu, pookie... All the ones that are a little cutesy.

Maven - Caught himself saying "crash out" once and literally had to pause what he was doing and backtrack what he just said.

I just finished reading @hrizantemy Mare Barrow's Critic Post, and here are my thoughts. I'm a die-hard Mare Barrow fan and will be touching on other topics/events that happened in Glass Sword, so please read with caution.

TW: Branding, Dead Baby

As someone who actually started caring for Mare during her corruption/fall arc in Glass Sword. It's no surprise to me that a lot of people would dislike her but it doesn't mean I'll ever get used to it.

Your criticism is mostly focused on the pivotal moment when Mare captured Cameron, which highlights her hypocrisy and her mental/moral decline at the end of the book.

However, you dismissed A LOT of events that led to Mare becoming this.

To start, Mare didn't become this hypocrite overnight:

Glass Sword began fresh after Maven's betrayal, with Mare still suffering from PTSD and guilt for what she did to Cal (and other characters, such as Lucas and her three handmaids).

For the majority of the book, Mare and her companions are in a bloody race to get to the Newbloods before Maven gets to them first while also being hunted down and killed themselves.

With their first encounter with dead Newlood, they quickly got ambushed, and Maven branded her.

Imagine the physical and mental tools that Mare suffered whenever they found a dead Newblood and a bloody letter. Maven hunting her down and mentally taunting/threatening her with his letters.

I would be, pardon my language, tweaking too, if my enemy leaves a message on a dead baby.

Mare has a lot of unaddressed trauma with problems that keep piling up on her that she doesn't have the resources or skill to fix. Unfortunately for her, she doesn't have access to a therapist; she is far away from her family. She never had a healthy way of coping with her trauma. Cause she is too desperate to save a Newblood and survive the day. She never gets to breathe in this book.

Also, the reason Mare broke protocol was when they encountered Jon The Seer, and he told her that the person they would meet would be their chance to infiltrate Corros Prison, and that unfortunate person was Cameron.

Mare, desperate, had Shade capture her. To save Julian, Sara, Newbloods, and even Silver elites being held captive by Elara.

Everyone did not approve of her decisions and often called her out:

Cal and Farley are very vocal about Mare's plans and choice of action.

With most of her plans being shut down and her behavior getting checked when she oversteps.

They don't see her as a leader even if Mare acts like one.

A good example is when Mare discussed the plan to infiltrate Corros Prison, and only a few of the Newblood recruits wanted to join. Mare even noted that they were either scared of her or they didn't know her.

Only when Kilorn, who spent time with them, spoke up about their need to save the others where they were more persuaded to join.

During the attack in Corros Prison when Mare called for Cal to help her. He ignored her because she killed guards who were begging her for mercy.

Later, when Shade died, Mare was not comforted or pitied. Farley slapped her for being dense and insensitive. Cal pushed her into a different room to tell her off, asking what was wrong with her, why was she reading Maven's letters, and even questioning if she was even capable of love.

Mare faced the consequences of her actions:

After Mare and the colonel broadcasted Elara's head. Barely anyone was talking to Mare.

On their way to their mission, they were quickly captured by an angry, grieving Maven. Mare offered herself to spare the others. Maven wanted justice for his mother, so he accepted.

He put a collar on her, dressed her in rags, and paraded her before a crowd of angry Silvers who wanted nothing more than her dead and commanded her to kneel. This happened on her 18th birthday. She is just a kid.

Mare made mistakes. She was not only called out for it. She suffered the consequences and wholeheartedly apologized to Cameron for what she did. Even offering to fight anyone who tried to question Cameron.

I know my response will be dismissed as a Mare stan. But you got to give credit to Aveyard. She created a flawed FMC with ACTUAL flaws that aren't just relatable but realistic, and she actually faces the consequences of her actions and is not being glorified by the characters or the narrative.

so it seems the poppy war has become my absolute favorite series so ofc i'm losing my mind comparing every scene with my other favorite series (red queen) and making an unfathomable amount of headcanons

rating twerkability of red queen characters bcuz im unemployed:

mare: 2/10 she has some ass she just has no idea what she’s doing with it

cal: 6/10 he also has no idea what hes doing but his glutes are so phat that 6 is quite literally the lowest he can score

maven: this one is really difficult bcuz at first thought i thought he’s too skinny and a flop to shake ass but then i thought about it more and how he’s definitely bottomed out and so…. what? i guess a 7/10? maybe controversial but hes got to be better than cal at something and that’s definitely not being king

diana: deadass 1/10

kilorn: 9/10 he says he’s a natural but he actually practised

shade: 10/10 an actual natural

iris: 4/10 she just doesn’t want to learn how or even attempt but 4 points for potential

evangeline: 6/10 she’s good at everything except maybe this

elane: 9/10 twerk master

ptolemus: 8/10 he learned for his wife

cameron: 1/10 somebody help herrrr omg

wren: 7/10 she’s too polite with it someone get this woman a drink

thomas: 9/10 was the village whore walking around like that

Rq flash fic Fridays

Prequel to this.

I stare at my stomach, at what Sara healer's hands had revealed a few days ago. At what burns me from the inside out, even as I huddle beneath my thin blankets.

Soft footsteps approach my cot, Kilorn peering at me between the blankets. "What's wrong?"

"Go away."

He bites his lip, reaching to cup my cheek. "Please don't hide from me."

I curl further into the blankets, long breaths that waver for far too long. "I'm pregnant."

He sours. "Can you please be serious?"

"Ask Sara. She found out when I did."

Kilorn stills. "You're--"

"Not lying." I throw the blankets off, teeth gnashing as I comb through my memories again.

His face falls. "It's Cal's, isn't it?"

"Worse." My head is heavy. "Maven's."

His eyes go wide, a whisper in the dark. "When."

“The boat.”  I swallow.  “I–He was so kind.  So sweet.  I didn’t think anything of it, I just–”  My eyes squeeze shut.  “Why him?”

“We don’t choose who we love.  I wish, more than anything, that we could.”

We sit there in silence, until he finally leaves. I know he won't tell, no matter how deeply he should. A silent code between best friends, unbroken even now.

Super Late Valentines Day Gift Exchange!!!

I was honored with @drewtanakagf !! I haven’t written anything in a long time, but I too am growing on Calorn, so I decided to write a little something on them. :) Hope you like it.

CAL Calore had known Kilorn Warren since the beginning of middle school. Kilorn was loud, annoying, and always throwing paper balls across the room to his only friend, Mare Barrow. He remembered that in 8th grade for Valentine’s Day, Kilorn had prepared chocolates and flowers for Mare. Maven was helping Cal in English when he glanced out the window and noted the awkward interaction outside in the courtyard. Mare had a grimace on her face and denied his gift, saying something Cal couldn’t hear. Kilorn’s lips twisted to a frown before he grinned and pat Mare’s shoulder, ripping a rose from the small bouquet he held. He pushed the rose into her palm and walked off before Mare could say anything.

Cal remembered a few hours later, Kilorn sat outside the school building, flowers and chocolates still in hand. His legs were crossed and his head was leaning against the brick wall of the tall building. A leaf crunched beneath Cal’s foot, and Kilorn finally looked up.

They’d had interactions before. Once a group project they almost failed. Once yelling at each other in gym when Kilorn scored for the other team on accident. Cal was stupidly upset about that. Once when Kilorn accidentally smacked the back of Cal’s head with a paper ball in class. He was trying to hit Mare.

“Hey.” Cal found himself murmuring, awkwardly stuffing his hands in his pockets. “Hey.” Kilorn replied back. Cal pulled out his phone to see if Maven had finished putting his materials away. Their chauffeur should be on the way to pick them up soon. There were no messages yet.

“Rejected?” Cal blurted. Kilorn glared at him and Cal pressed his lips together. The two of them sat in that silence for what felt like hours, until Kilorn ripped open the chocolate box and popped the chocolates in his mouth. Cal glanced at his watch, wondering what was taking him so long.

“Why are you here?” Kilorn grumbled out. Cal blinked in surprise and looked down at Kilorn, still sitting on the floor with chocolates stuffed in his mouth. “Uh, Maven.” Cal replied. Kilorn only hummed in response, but his brows shifted slightly, bottom lip jutting out.

“Why are you here?” Cal echoed. Kilorn swallowed and looked up at Cal, smiling as if his heart didn’t just get turned away. “Rejected.” He replied. Cal fought a scoff. Or a smile. Or maybe both. “I…am sorry.” He said instead, trying not to make eye contact. Kilorn only shrugged, looking away from Cal. “I knew she didn’t feel the same. Mare has other ambitions.” He tugged at the grass beneath him and Cal pursed his lips. “And your ambitions are…?” Cal found himself asking. Kilorn sighed, “Dunno. Maybe I’ll try again next year.” Then, he glanced at Cal again, green eyes glistening under the late sun. “Did you have a valentine?” Kilorn asked him. Cal noted the dozens of letters and gifts in and out of his locker. He had ignored all of them. He wanted nothing but to practice his sport. To be the best and impress his golden child father who became Captain in high school. “I did not.” Cal replied, “I have other ambitions.”

Cal noticed Kilorn roll his eyes. “No one cares about love these days.”

Cal remembered that he thought Kilorn was strange for wanting love at their age. They were hardly fourteen, and Kilorn was already setting his eyes on marrying Mare and having a white picket fenced life. He remembered that right after Kilorn had said no one cared about love, Maven texted him. And Cal left Kilorn sitting there without another word.

When high school had started, Cal didn’t speak with Kilorn. It’s not like they got along anyway. Kilorn was more irritating now than he was back then. Never paying attention in class, interrupting the teacher, and bothering Mare until she couldn’t take it anymore. Cal always caught those two down by a lake where he passed on his evening runs. Kilorn’s laugh was as loud as it always was.

The two of them competed in sports too.

Kilorn was an excellent swimmer. It was the only thing Cal knew he was good at. The two often head-butted in the class. Always fighting for the top spot. Cal knew Kilorn hated Cal for being good at everything. For being good at the one thing Kilorn excelled at. They often got into small brawls in the locker room. Verbally fighting and snapping back and forth with comebacks. But after the first semester of sophomore year was over, they didn’t speak a singular time during the second semester.

Until junior year, when Maven joined the debate team and Kilorn tried out for football. Cal was on his way to being Captain, and he had to train Kilorn Warren of all people.

He wasn’t a terrible shot. Kilorn was a decent runner. He could throw alright. But he was never truly good like Cal was. Most games, Kilorn was benched. But when he was on the field, Cal did noticeably better. He remembered butting his helmet against Kilorn’s after scoring a final touchdown seconds before the timer ran out. The loud cheers of the people in the crowd. The sight of his brothers soft frown in between the other faces in the bleachers. Kilorn’s loud laugh, pat on the shoulder, and praise ran through Cal’s head the rest of the night. Even as they sat on the bus beside each other, Cal staring out the window and Kilorn cheering with the rest of the team, his skin buzzed.

They were on their way to a place to eat. Ptolemus turned around in his seat to face Cal and Kilorn. “You think the judges noticed you?” He asked, the same shit eating grin he always had on his face. Cal shrugged, “I think so.”

“Of course they did.” Kilorn scoffed from beside him, “Cal’s the best we have. If they didn’t notice him then…” He took a pause, glancing at Cal, and shyly turning his eyes away, “What was the point of them coming to watch?”

Cal’s eyes widened and his heart thumped against his ribs. He hadn’t realized Kilorn’s…admiration? If that’s what you could call it.

Cal knew from that night forward, he would never see the loud, paper ball throwing, not good at football, academic failing fish boy the same again.

It have just found out the red queen universe is set in the future of our world and that they are in a post apocalyptic version of our world and that the time period before their apocalypse was the year 2025.

THIS MEANS THAT TIKTOK EXISTED IN THE RED QUEEN UNIVERSE AND BEYONCÉ SONGS ARE CONSIDERED CLASSICS
