KRYPTOS: Wicked Games

Billy Russo x Reader, 500 words exactly.

A/N: @the-blind-assassin-12 told me to write something from Billy’s POV that was exactly 500 words and I’ve never hated a challenge more. Though that’s on me for picking the worst possible chapter 💀

This is a companion piece to Let it Burn Part Thirteen and the story told from Billy’s point of view.

Billy Russo and blood.

Blood.

So much blood.

Always more than expected. Men walk around with more than a gallon in their veins and yet, there’s always more. Billy’s spilled more than most, washed more from his hands than some ever see.

Most haven’t looked in the mirror to see not one, but two different patterns. Fine red mist left a pink tint to Billy’s cheeks, broken up by fat drops, spit from dying lips.

One last look at the federal agent with blood dripping down his neck and pooling behind his head. A muddy halo for the good guy. Now, it was circling his sink, swirling pink lines like the peppermint candies that churches packed into stockings for the kids at Ray of Hope. He hated those poor chalky excuses for a sweet, but would gladly take a handful of them over the taste of death on his tongue. He followed the pink spiral until it disappeared in a silver drain, like his day, like his plans. It wasn’t supposed to go like that and his fingers twitched, knowing how close everything came to slipping through them.

A shower would help, so he did that first.

Seeing you would help. He did that too.

Finding you was easy. Like the blood in your veins called out to the blood in his. He felt it under his skin. It pulsed when he buried his face in your hair, comfortable and warm, not on edge or at the edge like he’d been just before. Beneath the flash of wealth, Billy lived a life of quiet control. Something you’d noticed and run from, yet he couldn’t picture another way to regain it. He needed you.

But then she called him away, in her hysterics, needing him. Not going to her was an option, just like running away with you was an option. Viable, but suspicious. Too erratic to keep under control.

So he went and there was blood.

So much blood.

It dripped into clear bathwater until the tub was pink. He sponged it from her face with the gentleness she needed in order to trust him. Billy held her in catatonia until sleep provided the cover he needed to slip away. To get back to you.

So he left and there was blood.

So much blood.

Billy saw red before blade ever touched skin, knowing yet another man sought out what was his. Fingers first. Removed for the pain, then steel ripped through his throat, for the end.

Two dead men lying in black-red pools of greed. Better than drink, cheaper than therapy, Billy regained control the only way he knew how. In blood. So much blood.

You didn’t look at him in fear, in his apartment fortress. You thanked him instead. You hugged him tight and cried into his neck. And Billy breathed deep. You wanted him. A killer. It was a mistake.

“Do you ever think the universe fucked up with us?”

“No.”

You were certain. And Billy felt it in his blood.
