What are your favorite tropes or plot points in Jason fics and why do you like them???

That’s really hard for me to narrow down. I will read just about anything gen that’s Jason-centric. Usually what makes or breaks a fic for me is the quality of the writing and characterization, rather than specific plot points or tropes. That said, some things do stand out…

Competent Jason, my beloved, how I adore you. He’s makes killer (ba-dum-tss 🥁) plans, he can adapt on the fly, and he’s got the range and depth to go up against anyone.

That’s my boy, any story that celebrates this is golden in my book. (Images from Event Leviathan #3)

I like Bruce and Jason origin stories, or stories that deal with them being father/son and Batman/Robin, because these boys love each other so much and, honestly, I just want them to be happy together.

I like fix-its or what-ifs that center around the Lost Days/UtRH timelines, because Jason’s story is a goddamn tragedy and I like thinking about all the ways it could have gone better/differently.

I like stories that feature late UtRH or Outlaws era Jason where he goes through real growth and development, because dc refuses to give us any meaningful character evolution without ripping it away or undermining it, and I have to feed my soul somehow. Bonus points if Jason gets to be badass with his guns or sword (or both 🤤).

I’m always up for a story that deals with batarang incident, although preferably not Dick-finds-out-and-runs-off-to-yell-at-Bruce, been there read that. Also, time travel or alt universes where Red Hood is there for Jaybin, because of all the lovely angst and hurt/comfort (and when it comes down to it, time and time again, Jason can really only depend on himself—thanks dc 🖕).

Finally, I’m weirdly lowkey obsessed with Selkie!Jason. There’s just something about baby Jay as a baby seal that melts my heart. Plus I think the vulnerability of the Selkie coat mythology is a really good fit for Jason’s character, which is so often held hostage to the narrative or other characters.

💜 *Insert a plethora of creative curses here* For fig's sake. I can't even begin to describe the pure AWE I have, not only for this story, but for Sabaa Tahir, fantasy and Muslim-American literary goddess, in general. I honestly can't think of a story I've read that was so well intertwined, so fully conceptualized, while respecting roots of the series that came before it. Earlier this year, I had the fortune to read The Fragile Threads of Power by VE Schwab, which continued her Shades of Magic series. Reading Heir sparked that same feeling; the sensation of returning home after a long journey through other vast worlds. I'm grateful that Penguin Teen hosted the Ember in the Ashes read-along this summer. While Heir introduces us to new characters, 20 years after the Ember in the Ashes series ends, each mention and emergence of a familiar character provided a sweet taste of nostalgia I didn't know I needed. These books have seeped themselves deep within my marrow since 2015, and Sabaa Tahir has been on my favorite/auto-buy author for just as long. She's the first Muslim-American to win the National Book Award for Young People's Literature; a feat that gives me hope and inspiration as a Muslim-American writer.

💜 Reading Heir, you can see how much Tahir's prose has flourished over the past decade. Despite stepping back into this familiar world, it's richer, more vivid. The action is just as intense and ruthless, the characters undeniably unique. The underlying themes resonate deeply. I loved every nod to South Asian, Pakistani, and Islamic culture. It's always the five-star book reviews I struggle with the most. I could talk about this story for hours, but I'd spoil so much that I want you to experience for yourself.

💙 Don't worry: if you haven't read the An Ember in the Ashes quartet, you can still enjoy Heir. The three main characters have their own vivid story to tell, and while there are mentions of many beloved characters from the original series, they're supporting cast to Aiz, Sirsha, and Quil. I will say that the first part of the story took a moment to adjust to, and there's the lingering question of HOW these characters are connected, but once you realize how the breadcrumbs were laid out for you, you'll realize the execution is FLAWLESS. The fast pace keeps you on your toes, the ever-growing tension driving you to the last page. As for the underlying romantic story, AH! It was perfectly built, the sass and chemistry playful without stealing from the main plot, yet heart-wrenching; that kind of painful that keeps you invested long-term. OH! And can we talk about our villain? That BUILD?! I love a villain with reason--a character who doesn't realize they're the villain at all, someone with a mission that goes about it in all the wrong ways. This story had EVERYTHING and then some. I'll be recommending it for the next 20 years.

The true main character, Wishcloud lived a fairly calm life in a small cottage just beneath SkyWing territory with her father, Sharpeye, her mother, Sparrow, and her sister, Chickadee. Wishcloud was happy to stay right where she was, but Chickadee always wanted to explore. She would go out on journalism trips to interview passing dragons, hoping to learn all she could about the continent.

However, one day, Chickadee did not return. Days, weeks, months passed, and still, no sign of Wishcloud's beloved sister. Wishcloud assumed she ran away, and eventually, she too left the nest. She took up residence in the NightWing village, where she met her friend Saffron. Eventually, Wishcloud discovers her sister's true end: she was murdered in cold blood. Wishcloud has since made it her mission to track down her sister's killer, no matter what it takes.

Saffron grew up in the rainforest, raised with all the other RainWings. They all thought it was a little odd she was clearly half SandWing, but Saffron didn't care! She was fine! Never mind the odd looks they gave her, or her lack of venom, or the whispers of some Chameleon. She had never heard of this guy! She was just like any normal RainWing!

Until she wasn't. The rainforest turned on her, and she went to go live in a small town on the edge of SkyWing and SandWing territory. She met an old veteran by the name of Jackal, and he mentioned his mother having an affair with a RainWing at one point, ten years after he was born. The pieces fell into place, and Saffron decided to stay with Jackal and his husband, Pine, for a while until she heard there was a new queen of the rainforest. She tentatively headed back, where Queen Glory accepted her with open wings. She met Wishcloud, and the rest was history (see Wishcloud's character summary).

They always wanted to be some legendary heroes someday (well, Shrike did), and this chick Saffron was offering just that! Of course they'd accept!

Fuji never wanted to be much like other SkyWings, which was fine, because they never wanted to be much like him, either. He got odd looks for his light scales, and rumors questioning his bloodline got him booted from the kingdom. He set up a small cafe known as The Nettle Nest in a quaint little area between the Diamond Spray Delta, the Bay of a Thousand Scales, and the rainforest. He had two common patrons, sisters, Tragedy and Disaster. They were welcome to stop by, and the two often helped him and his husband, Agrias, out with his business. It was hardly a living...

...Until it was. All of a sudden, he had 7 dragons (counting the Sea/Night sisters) coming in every day to discuss murder. Oh well. All press is good press, he supposed, and they tipped well enough.

Tragedy and her sister, Disaster, were aptly named according to their parents. At least, that's what they assumed. Their parents weren't around, abandoning them on the shore as eggs. They were raised by a small troop of MudWings, getting snippets of what a dragon should be. They wandered, taking refuge at a small cafe, The Nettle Nest. The owner agreed to let them stay with him as long as they helped out with work. They agreed, moving in with him.

Disaster came to her sister one day confessing an odd dream. A vision, she called it, describing how certain she was of who their father is: a SeaWing prince. It made sense, she argued, seeing as there were 32 of them. Tragedy was much more doubtful. Surely they would know if they had royal blood. Besides, she had more important things to think about, like the true crime case brought to her by two overeager hybrids. It was a good distraction.

The NightWing twins, the first of many to regain their tribe's powers, were cursed under a blood moon to only see devastation. Armageddon and Harbinger, as they were titled, grew up thick as thieves. Harbinger only wanted to blend in, Armageddon only wanted to prove his worth, but the red stars on their foreheads served as omens to their powers. The two were plagued by nightmares, horrible visions of fire and twisters and a dragon the color of rust with striking gold eyes.

Harbinger assumed it was only the worst possible futures, writing it off as nothing. Armageddon wanted to take action. He took a dagger, snuck off into the night, and returned with blood on his talons. Upon his return, the two were attacked by a mob of fearful NightWings, afraid of what the twins may do next. Harbinger was banished from his tribe, taking up residence in the rainforest, while Armageddon fled, his whereabouts never certain.

hello hello !!! hello new mods :3 i've finally come back to my roots and have come to write stuff about the band au !!! (its gonna be a huge block of text btw.... as always.... apologies.....)

SO I've finally come up with names for their band with the help of 🖤💙 anon !! (yes, ik them lol. they were the one that introduced me to this blog :3), and decided on "Forsaken Puppets" !! Uhh smth smth 'Puppets' is because they're kind of like puppets to the Spectre and yeah :3

Forsaken Puppets mostly plays electropunk songs !!! I've started to get into the genre recently, and js imagining scenarios of them playing it on stage is so good I need it injected in my veins NOWWWW

They also have a rival band !! It's called "BLACKLISTED" and it's composed of the killers :3 (a few of them, atleast) !! Idk how 🖤💙 came up with that name but I liked it so we kept it <3

TAPH !!! I forgot to talk about Taph back when I was assigning them roles bcs I didn't know him that well back then 🥀 anyway, he doesn't perform on stage (unfortunately), but he is their backstage technician !! In a way where he helps BM set up the stage for their performances, handles the effects, volume, etc. X3

I take back what I said before, 007n7 DOES know how to play the guitar, it's just that he avoids it because him and Noli used to play together and he doesn't want to go back to thinking of Noli out of fear that he'll fall back into his old habits of hacking because those are what his favorite memories of Noli are

And now, for BLACKLISTED......

c00lkidd isn't a part of the band, but he's a huge supporter of them !! He loves their songs and has recommended them to bluudud who says their music is trash but has been caught multiple times listening to their songs while streaming

1x is a bassist, unlike his creator, but she can also be a great background vocalist !! The fans love love LOVE 1x and he's definitely one of if not the most popular member of BLACKLISTED

Jason as their badass, introverted, stoic drummer <33 idk he js gives MAJOR "i hit things to relieve stress" vibes ngl... yes, the hockey mask stays ON during performances, and there have been crack rumors about him and Taph being the same person since they both haven't shown their faces in public </3

John Doe is uh. Idk what to do with him he has an entire corrupt code stalactite as one of his arms... Err he can be the scary bodyguard :3

NOLI !!! My pookie bear, my sweetheart, my babygirl, william afton, my star (get it) THE LOVE OF MY LIFE !!! I feel like he has that electric guitarist rizz ykwim... AND he was definitely made the one that made his own chase theme !!! 10/10 would definitely let myself get thrown in a chase with Noli just so I can hear the chase music <3 (proceeds to get all Hallucination effects)

Azure will be there, it's js that idk what I want them to play js yet.... Or they can be a composer too idk much abt him I'm sorry Azure fans :wilting_flower:

MR DOOM !!! Pookie bear is multi talented but mains in percussion instruments <33 He has tried to play the drums with his banhammer.... for some reason.... and it worked !! Although a bit clunky, the drum surprisingly didn't break, but the cymbals definitely bent <3

BLACKLISTED is an alt rock band :3 Uhh nothing more to add to this bullet but ig their songs are mostly abt rebelling to society shit and probably ICP inspired ? Idk much abt genres I js listen to what's good </3

Eskel rests a big hand on Lambert’s shoulder. “It’s alright, Lambert,” he says soothingly. “I told Jaskier about Geralt’s feelings for Yennefer weeks ago, it’s about time he got all the information about the current situation.”

“Geralt’s feelings. For Yennefer,” Lambert says flatly. He throws his hands in the air. “Fuck, sure, fine. Geralt’s in love with Yennefer, and now Jaskier knows and is going to help them get back together.”

Summary:

Bilbo finds a stray warg pup and of course he falls in love with it, much to Thorin's dismay.

Thorin hates the little monste,r but he loves his husband, even if he doesnt understand why he wants to keep it for a pet. A word that has no Kuzdhul equvelent.

🔥 (fire) - What drives your character in life? Is it a belief? A person? A goal? Whatever it is, what do they want from it and what are they willing to do to get it?

Lidija believes with all her heart that one day Myr will lead her out of the City of Dite base, and patiently waits for the day when she'll be a free lady married to a rich man or woman, participating in social events and all those frivolous ideas.

She's not a fighter and doesn't have the strength to stand up against the Cavalieri's system, so all she can do is wait for Myr to come back for her. She will wait as long as it takes.

Lidija's fear is kinda vague, but it's really the only thing that makes her falter. Her biggest fear is abandonment. It all stemmed from the way she was separated from her exhiled parents. From that day forward she's scared of being alone for too much time in a room that isn't hers.

With Myr, however, this fear didn't manifest when she left with Reborn. She's 100% convinved that she will come back for her, even though she's completely clueless on Myr's whereabouts and the reason why she left. Is it because she's in denial, and can't possibly fathom the idea of Myr leaving her behind willingly?

🥕 (carrot) - How does your character treat themselves after a long day? Do they buy something new? Maybe they eat a sweet treat? Call someone they love? Take a hot bath?

After a relaxing bath, Lidija has a strict skin routine session that helps her wind down after a long day of work. While waiting for her facial masks to do their job, she makes herself a cup of tea while listening to her beloved little vintage radio. This MUST all be done wearing her combo of fluffy white sheep slippers + fluffy sheep hair circlet.

Once all that's done, she updates her diary with the day's happenings, and then sinks into her current romance book. Myr will somehow climb the walls up to her balcony to have a little chat before calling it a day.

Mhm, I'm going to be starting the next edit of Meathook soon! I want to get it ready to send out to beta readers by next month, which is super exciting!

I'm most excited about it because the wip idea itself was created as a joint effort with my sister, @twinmother, which makes it even more personal. Also, it was the first really big lengthy story that I finished after a huge block in writing!

It hasn't changed much since the brain storm stage outside of the fact that I'm only barely resisting giving it a sequel, but it did inspire a whole slew of other wips with similar dynamics to the main characters!

Mercer, my beloved <3 he's just such a horrible person, even though he thinks very highly of himself. Like you have never seen a guy with as many issues as this man. what he really needs is a therapist and some forced time off, and what he gets is a serial killer, an unsolveable looking string of murders, (maybe a boyfriend), and a lot of moral situations that should be huge dilemma's but that he simply powers through without a second thought.

I haven’t gone through the other aisle yet either.” your attention grasped onto the pumpkin mug  “oooo this is so cute!” Killed was reminded by Kid to limit the Halloween item you were getting due to the amount of Halloween items you had gotten. He tried to sneak some items out of the cart without you noticing. “I think you have a Halloween shopping addiction.” Killer leaning against the cart. “I do not have a Halloween shopping addiction.” you squinted your eyes at him placing the pumpkin mug inside the cart.  You could tell the killer was looking at you with an expression that was explained as ‘really?’  puffing your cheeks you “Don’t give me that look!”

“That right there proves my point.” Killer spoke “If you want to get some items you will have to remove some items on the ship. It's only fair.” 

You gasped at the comment coming from your beloved  and you looked at the cart full of items. Maybe it was a lot of times you had got? Instead of agreeing you wanted to negotiate “okay okay here is the deal I will get the items I really really want but I keep my items that  I have on the ship!”
