The tyrannosauroid Kileskus aristotocus eats a baby mamenchisaurid sauropod. The Middle Jurassic (Bathonian age) of the future Krasnoyarsk region, Russia.
I started this work as a sketch for a challenge with friends, but eventually made a detailed drawing imitating the style of a gel ink pen. I must say that it is more convenient to draw with a real gel pen. But still, this work gave me a good experience. :) Kileskus was a medium-sized theropod, close to the English Proceratosaurus and the Chinese Guanlong. It is known from a partial maxilla, a piece of the back of the jaw, and several postcranial fragments. Mamenchisaurid sauropods from the Berezovsk coal mine were described in 2019 from isolated teeth and tail vertebrae with characteristic features for this group (link.springer.com/article/10.1… -..). Due to the fragmentary nature of the material, a new taxon was not isolated, but the Krasnoyarsk region mamenchisaurid is important as the northernmost representative of its family.

A dinosaur tooth of an indeterminate theropod from an unknown locale, likely Eurasia. It was labeled as possibly from the Yixian Formation or Shaximiao Formation. However, the black preservation and morphology does not look right for either locale. It does not appear to match with Yutyrannus huali, but it's unclear how it compares to the numerous metriacanthosaurids like Yangchuanosaurus sp. and megalosauroids like Leshansaurus qianweiensis. The Itat Formation in Siberia, Russia was also known to produce comparable black colored teeth such as Kileskus aristotocus at one point. While impossible to determine for certain, it does seem closer to Russian teeth than Chinese. The tooth has a midline mesial serration density of 22/5mm and distal serration density of 18/5mm; the crown height is 17.9mm, CBL of 9.8mm, and CBW of 7mm.

Portrait of Kileskus aristotocus, a Proceratosaurid from Middle Jurassic Russia. Done in oils on a pre-painted canvas in one night, based on one of the Valentine's cards I drew for my coworkers, 2020 On Reddit I had to upload this as a jpeg for file size reasons, but at least it could retain its full dimensions. So here’s a link to that, for your zooming pleasure: https://old.reddit.com/r/Paleoart/comments/gvauzb/portrait_of_kileskus_aristotocus_a/

Im just going through and posting all my “Good” Paintings here to catch you all up Name: Proceratosauridae
Animals shown: Proceratosaurus bradleyi, Guanlong wucaii, Kileskus aristotocus.
Original Description: A study of a small branch of the brilliantly crested family of therapods known as Proceratosauridae. From top to bottom we have Proceratosaurus bradleyi, Guanlong wucaii, and at the very bottom is Kileskus aristotocus. I struggled greatly with the facial scales, but i'm glad now its done
Things I’d change now: I’d learn to save things as Tiffs instead of Jpegs. Other than that, theres not really all that much wrong with this one. Again I failed to use a direct reference like I now due, so the proportions are most likely off. Also I may change up the facial integument, maybe extend the feather range, fairly arbitrary stuff.

A dinosaur tooth of an indeterminate theropod from the Itat Formation in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. Although labeled as Kileskus aristotocus, the odd absence of a mesial carinae suggest it may not be proceratosaurid, or even tyrannosauroid. Unfortunately there are not many papers published on isolated teeth from these Middle Jurassic deposits, and this particular morphology does not seem to correspond to any known clade.
