I'm a linguistics major and I wonder if the Gentry have their own language(s)? if they do, do they even function on the same logic as human languages? does the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis hold for the Fair Folk in a way that it doesn't for humans? does someone who's Involved begin to speak differently?
The Gentry speak virtually countless languages, some of them closer to human spoken, written, and signed languages than others. Of the ones that can be spoken with human tongues and hands and pens, there’s definitely a sliding scale of the danger involved. Some are relatively common, and often (especially in the shallow Elsewhere around EU) are used interchangeably with human languages - folklore occasionally attributes the Fair Folk with the gift of tongues, after all. But like a lot of other things, the deeper one gets into the Else, the more likely one is to encounter language that actively harms you, or changes you with the use of it.

Hey Tumblr I Know We're All Broke But I'm Like Super-Extra-Broke
I'm pan, nonbinary trans, disabled, and currently unemployed due to mental health issues, and I have less than $20 to my name. So I've decided to sell knit and crochet goods to help me at least have money for food. At the moment I can offer ~60 inch scarves, knit or crochet, for $37 including shipping, and knit or crochet beanies made to size for $37 including shipping. I can also make large dragon scale dice bags (holds about 10 sets of dice) for $32 including shipping, or small ones (holds one or two sets) for $27 including shipping. Additionally I can make a crochet bag for $52 including shipping. These bags are extremely durable, I made myself one about 5 years ago and it's barely starting to fall apart now. The bag and dice bags come in one or two colors and the hats and scarves in one color. Since these are made to order I can do whatever color of yarn I can buy. Literally anything. I currently have a lovely variegated neon acrylic I could totally use for the smaller dice bag.
If you message me before the end of November I should be able to get orders done in time to ship for the winter holiday of your choice!
I know these seem on the pricey side but yarn and my labor are both pretty expensive, and I make the hats and scarves in full wool. If you prefer another yarn I can probably knock a 5 to 10 dollars off the price of the scarves and hats, though you'll lose the warmth of the wool.
If you're interested please message me here @kiiteor with color preferences, your address, and the circumference of the widest part of your head for the hats.
This first photo is of a scarf I'm currently working on for myself, the second is that backpack that's only barely starting to fall apart after 5 years of constant abuse, and the last photo is the large dragon scale dice bag (the dice are mine and not included with the bag).

kiiteor replied to your post: Fun episode 114 facts: nobody has used the correct...
boy I sure do love when people are better at using the correct pronouns for a terrifying otherworldly beast than an actual recurring character
mood but i resent the implication that j’mon isnt terrifying and otherworldly

ASKS - Weird shit you’ve told me about
Asks sent to my main, posted here - theme: your schools are really fucking weird, holy shit. This is my jam.
mxnotawakeyet said: At my university there is this one lecture hall that is always cold. No matter if you enter in summer or winter, at 8 am or 6 pm, it is just always freezing cold in there. No other room at the campus has this temperatures! There were kids sitting witch blankets and stuff. One time I went to the toilet and when I came back I literally ran into a wall of cold. They call this hall "the ninth circle of hell".
spellbert said: Right outside my dorm room was a staircase that led directly down INTO the ground and ended at a locked door. I used to practice the fiddle there at night.
captain-ghoulfucker said: Ok! I moved to this small town a couple years ago. This entire place if weird. There's this giant iron foundry that's closing down pretty soon. Its right on the edge of this huge creepy forest. The school I go to was built on a junk yard so if you go behind the football field there's tons of rusted out cars. All covered in moss and there's trees growing around the cars. The entire town is in this strange edge of industrial and wild.
Anon said: The law library at my school is haunted, specifically in one of the stairwells. Apparently, it got so bad last year they hung up a sign on the doorway to it not to use those stairs? Still have yet to investigate. Also, in a locker in the Anthropology department is a skeleton named elvis, who is in fact, real. I cleansed him with crystals and left salt, holly leaves and lavender with him, so he wouldn't haunt us.
kiiteor said: I've been thinking about this one building on campus that it's really easy to get lost in (iirc it was designed as a maze). my department (linguistics) is in there and we may in fact be cryptids. if there a scheduling conflict our room reservations are never on the official schedule. even though the offices are just two turns into the hallway if you aren't paying careful attention you can get lost. I hear there's a secretary somewhere with maps but in my 2 years here I've never met anyone with a map. I've known since high school that I wanted to study linguistics here and the building seems to like me. I've never gotten lost even once. even if I've never been to a classroom before I can usually find it on the first try. my friends are not so lucky. sometimes they'll turn up 3 hours late to a meeting, not really sure how long been wandering the halls. sometimes classes will show up in rooms when and where the linguistics club meets, insistent that they've always been there and (2) and we're the ones who don't belong. (3)

I JUST LEARNED THAT WORD INITIAL D IN ENGLISH IS ACTUALLY A PLAIN VOICELESS ALVEOLAR PLOSIVE MY LIFE IS A LIE
I mean, sometimes, for some dialects. Not all the time. But the voicing isn’t really important: it’s the aspiration. Consequently, you can devoice voiced stops without losing the meaning distinction, so it’s not a surprise when people do.
