“hm fine,” jj said, fake pouting before pressing a kiss to the side of her head. he hoped it was a spot that he could get away with kissing her, he’s been on the wrong end of far too many arguments about ruining her face products and he was already antsy about getting to the beach. to marry kiara carrera. he was about to marry kiara carrera. he wondered how bad they’d react back on the outer banks, when they woke up and saw the pictures of a wedding none of them knew about. honestly, the idea of it made him laugh to himself as they walked down the path toward their secluded little space of heaven. he gestured over at the arch that was set up while they were gone, showing kie the decor, before he had asked about the ring. 

your ring. he knew, obviously, that he had to have a ring. he assumed that during the ceremony that they’d just repurpose one of the ones he was currently wearing and then later buy him one. but this — this engraved ring, that kiara went out of her way to get was just the cherry on top of what he anticipated being one of the best days of his life. hooking the ring around his pinky, he lifted it up to inspect. coordinates were engraved in the inside of the ring. “is this…for here?” he asked lamely. of course it was the coordinates to where they were about to be married. “baby this is perfect…” he said, sliding it onto his ring finger on the wrong hand before tilting her chin up to kiss her again. “let’s go get married.”

five minutes later, they were standing in front of a greek man doing them a favor, underneath an arch of gauzy fabric swaying in the breeze. each other’s rings in their hands as jj was encouraged to start with his vows. opening his mouth, jj closed it again. he had so much to say all the time. but when it was important he was drawing a blank. maybe it was because he knew as soon as he started talking he was going to cry. “kiara,” his voice wavered on the last vowel. of course it did. “i’ve loved you for as long as i knew what the word meant. no matter what we’ve been through together, it’s always been you and me. and i can’t even imagine doing any of this with anyone else because i just want to spend every minute with you. i know i’m supposed to make some promises here, but i think we’ve promised each other the world already, but i’ll do it again. i promise that nothing will keep us apart, no matter what happens, we’ll face it together, and i promise that no matter what we’re doing, i’ll love you the way i have my entire life. you’ve been it for me for so long, i can’t wait to make it official,”

he felt two tears in the corners of his eyes that he managed to keep back while he spoke, and honestly, he was proud of himself. unfortunately, that pride in himself went out the window as he slid kiara’s ring onto her finger again. with his free hand he swiped at his eyes and he nodded at her. “okay you go.”he laughed. squeezing her hand he was holding, hoping he wasn't the only one that was going to cry tonight.

lips tugged up in a grin, kie rolls her eyes at jj. "yeah, no. that's not happening." though he'd said they have time for that later, she also knows that if he had given the green light he would be all over her. "we don't have time for me to redo my hair again." and the last thing she wants is the pictures of them to feature her in smeared lipstick and misshapen curls because jj can't keep his hands to himself. she loops her arm through his, happy to let him pull her through and make their way back down to the beach. she follows his gaze, cheeks burning just a bit before shrugging. "it's your ring," she says as if it's something casual. "we're getting married — you need one too. i went and picked it up on my way back from the beach." she slips it off her thumb and holds it out for him carefully. "hopefully it fits. i had to use one of your other rings as a guide and resizing it might be tricky — it's engraved."

Back in select theaters for a limited time, the first in a series of blockbusters based on the Disneyland ride of the same name. Director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer really launched Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Kierra Knightley's careers with one of Disney's biggest franchises of all time. The red carpet premiere was an epic opening at Disneyland and reignited fans of the ride. It also was the first major film for Zoe Zaldanna, who played Ana Maria, a woman Jack owes a ship to. The first three film in the franchise (and arguably the best) grossed 2.68 billion dollars worldwide.

he’s been recounting this story to himself for hours since he heard it for the first time, and the problem with that is that the longer he does, the more he believes it. and the more he believes it, there’s a flash of hope that dies in his chest. because this doesn’t mean there’s a family that wants him somewhere on a private island off the coast of his home. it means that he barely got to know his grandfather before he was murdered at his desk, and the mother that he always dreamed of having growing up wasn’t coming to rescue him from the disaster that is his life. and his biological father? well if the stories are true he’s barely better than luke. he might even be worse. he couldn’t hold back the quiet laugh as kiara brought him back to reality. “that’s the kicker,” he mumbled, the shattered glass of his blue eyes blinking up at the brown ones that he’s fallen in love with time and time again. “he did. when he heard the news he called chandler because he felt bad for wes. wanted to tell the old man where i was. that i was okay and he still had a part of his daughter…chandler showed up and offered to pay him more to keep me for longer. luke said he used his history against him. bribed him with getting the cops off his back. paid the police to stay away from the house…” he blinked at kie as his hands tightened against her waist. he didn’t have to finish the sentence. 

do you think he was telling the truth. that was the biggest question. luke maybank was known for a lot of things. honesty wasn’t ever one of them. but then again, he only ever lied for personal gain. “he didn’t have a reason to lie,” jj admitted quietly. “if it was about money, it would’ve been easier for him to just go to chandler and threaten to go to the police for fraud or something, right? try to get the money he claims he wasted on me for eighteen years back.” as awful of a father as he had been, there was also something else he had to admit. “he also didn’t really lie to me that much y'know? spent most of his time screamin'."

there are a lot of thoughts racing through kiara’s head right now and she doesn’t even know where to start. so she tries to follow what jj tells her, nodding along. she remembers chandler, of course. the entirety of goat island had given her the creeps while they were there but he had been particularly off putting. the murder of his father in law hadn’t helped that any. kie is a spiritual person and has never been one to scoff at a ghost story — but she’s not an idiot and the theory of the family being cursed and a ghost killing them off one by one isn’t one she’s willing to actually entertain. “and luke just… never tried to find him?” she feels her heart break a little bit for him, clearly seeing the emotional toll that this is taking on jj and she can’t blame him at all. his entire life he’s struggled with feeling unwanted and unloved, kiara can only imagine the whole new layer this brings to that. he looks on the edge of a breakdown and kiara is glad that he had come home. her hand stays rooted over his heart, trying to show him that she’s here and they can figure this out together. “far fetched doesn’t always mean untrue. we found the royal merchant, remember? that was supposed to be impossible.”  she reminds him, eyes soft as she looks down at him. “do you think he was telling the truth?” kie doesn’t think highly of luke — it’s the opposite, really, but she silently prays that he hadn’t opened up this door, put his son through this kind of emotional turmoil as some kind of scam.
