Do you recall growing up that “preacher’s kids”were always the worst? They were the bullies, the pranksters, the ones sleeping around, drinking, smoking and generally behaving badly. I always thought it was them rebelling against their goody-two-shoes parents, but talking to a lot of them as adults, I’ve heard first hand how genuinely messed up they were to have a close-up look as children at the hypocrisy between who their parents and church elders purported to be and believe publicly and who they really were and believed in the private. A lot of aha moment stories. I don’t know a single former Christian religious leader’s kid who is a believer now. I know some who attend church, and a couple who became religious leaders themselves because they saw how that would benefit them. But no genuine believers.
