K is for King 👑 | finishing up the week of the letter k with songs and stories | we sang Ole' King Cole, he liked to change Cole to Cove! we talked about fiddles and he sang the song using his own instruments (bells and tambourines) Story time was super fun with the story of The King's New Turban / similar to The Emperors New Clothes / He retold the story and talked about the characters. Cove had lots of fun decorating crowns; He shaped a crown with clay, + cut one from construction paper, and made a handprint King! We wrapped up our kingly lesson with some handwriting practice. We will enjoy a game of Checkers while the baby naps! BLOOD CELLS DOUGH PLAY inspired by the book "A drop of blood" by Paul Showers. This is QR's current favourite amongst the body themed books we are reading. . . *Science experts please correct me if I made any mistakes* We talked about how red blood cells are round with a dent in the middle, compared the size of red and white blood cells, cut pipe cleaners to use as germs and made the white blood cells eat the germs- QR's favourite part. . . . . . . . #body_playlexue #playlexue #3yearsold #playfullearning l #creativekids #childhoodunplugged #learningthroughplay #preschool #kidsactivities #homelearningfun #playideas #momofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers #sgmum #sahm #sgparents #yeskidsbookstagram #kidsbookswelove #nationalreadingmovement #booksforkids #kidlitpicks #littlereaders #kidartlit #beyondthebook #bloodcells

Lennon contribution to this week's #kidartlit challenge. I set up an invitation with pompms, glue, googly eyes and paint, but he just gave his rock a pair of eyes and he was happy! 👀 He played with his rock all morning. 💜

thestoriesweread -- This 75 years young classic by 'Goodnight Moon' duo Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd is going into my son's Easter basket this year. . 'Runaway Bunny' is the reassuring tale of a little bunny who wants to run away. Mama bunny lets him know that no matter where or what he turns into, she will find a way to be with him, never leaving his side. . Yesterday we did our first Easter craft and it was perfect for my toddler- super easy with hardly any mess. Simply cut an egg shape, then use painters tape to create patterns- bonus: this will hold the egg steady for little ones. Finally wet some chalk with water and let your child have fun. Mine's a little wrinkly because, well, two year olds, but you can check out a better-looking version and a ton of other craft ideas over at @kidartlit . I picked this book solely based on the author. I'm a big fan of Brown's work. She was a fascinating woman, having forged the way for modern "here and now" children's books. She wrote over 100 published and unpublished children's books in her short life. While studying at a student teacher's school, her professors led groundbreaking research in children's semantics. They discovered that children are more interested in sound patterns and rhythm than they are in communication when first developing language skills. That's probably why her books can transform any parent into a poet, luring children in with her rhythmic words. Her personal life included being raised by moderately wealthy yet unhappily married parents who were distant. She went to boarding schools before college, and had love affairs with both men and women. Her first check as an author was used to buy a vendor cart's entire contents of flowers and throw a party. She didn't have any children herself, though she certainly understood them. She left her royalties to a neighbor's 9 year old son, who apparently went on to squander millions. The newly published 'North, South, East, West' was a previously unpublished work by Brown. There's a new biography on her that I clearly need to pick up. Has anyone read it yet? What an interesting woman who continues to leave such an impact on children around the globe!

today is all about creepy crawly insects! 🐜 this week we are reviewing the letter | i | we had some play doh letter forming, letter sounds with letter tiles + wrote out sight words that begin with the letter I / I, is, it and in / we read about all types of insects and discussed insects we have seen before. Moths are his favorite! I found these super cool printables on @pinterest, he had to draw the missing half of each insect, he really enjoyed this activity! Once the rain clears up we will head outside with our magnifying glass and try to discover some of the insects we learned all about today! | #homeschool #homeschooling #unschool #unschooling #sightwords #simple #fun #hare #theletteringlife #education #learning #elementary #preschool #teaching #flashcards #review #prek #insects #letteroftheweek #kidartlit #fun #letters #reading #books #kindergartentoolkit #homeschoolcoop #homeschoolcollective #nature #covespreklife

🐱WHERE DOES KITTY GO IN THE RAIN?🌧 📕 activity *see previous post for video* The mini umbrella is made from plastic egg carton and pipecleaner. The mini rain coat is also made with plastic egg carton, with Velcro dots hot glued on. I couldn't find anything to make wearable rain boots so I just washi taped the duplo girl's shoes 😅 Oh and our cute grey kitty brooch is handmade by the talented Shu Ning from @momshoo . . . . . . . #natureplx #playlexue #3yearsold #smallworld #learnthroughplay #playmatters #earlychildhoodeducation #playbasedlearning #eyfs #earlychildhood #playandlearn #kidsactivities #childhoodunplugged #learningthroughplay #preschoolathome #playideas #homeschooling #ohlittlesthands #teachersofinstagram #momofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers #sgmum #sahm #sgparents #eggcartoncraft #kidscraft101 #kidartlit

Another first was gelli printing. 💛 Have someone done this before? I have never heard of it. It's a gel plate that is used to make monoprints. Lennon used stencils to make his print. It a very fun process and I think I'll be purchasing a gel plate soon! Unfortunately we left our print at the museum, but at least I have a photo of the process. ☺️ #gelliprint #kidartlit #getcreativewith (at Knoxville Museum of Art)

H is for h a r e. 🐰 / we started off by reading The Hare & The Tortoise (one of our favorite little stories!), after reading I had Cove retell the story and we talked about the setting + characters. We compared + contrasted hares and rabbits, learned all about hares and did some water color which he will cut and glue on a collage of green paper. We will go outside this evening to hop all around on some sight words drawn on the driveway with chalk! we are back, with the letter H! H is for 🏡! We did some easy reading, shape sorting-- he picked the shapes he could use to build a house; and house building with craft sticks and again, with clay. Cove also used his salt tray to trace letters. (I use a rectangle Pyrex dish and just cover with the lid when not in use.) we did a scavenger hunt and looked for items around our home that he read about in his books. He spent a good amount of time with the clay, adding trees and birds to his house picture. We talked about different kinds of homes and things that make our home special to him. He said he loved our green front doors! G is for goat. We started the morning with one of our all time favorite stories.. The Three Billy Goats Gruff -- this is a beautiful copy from 1967! We will be working on the difference of sounds the letter g makes. The hard /g/ sound for goat, grass and glue. (We will explore soft /g/ with giraffes and germs later this week) He rearranged his letter tiles to correctly spell goat and created a fun abstract 3-d artwork of different size/color bridges and fresh cut grass. This activity was really for getting in some cutting practice with scissors! It turned out very cool! We will be making some fun paper goat masks and colorful symmetry trolls later on! Have a wonderful Monday! | #homeschool #homeschooled #homeschooling #unschool #unschooling #stories #books #read #art #kidartlit #colors #bridges #paper #art #artwork #3d #abstract #goats #threebillygoatsgruff #trolls #grass #simple #fun #education #learningisfun #theletterg #letterunjt #g #sounds #literacy #motorskills #storytime #covespreklife
