After the talk Law feels mentally exhausted. Content that little Cora-san isn't contemplating the possibility of them throwing him out anymore, seas, where did that come from- but his head is heavier than before and that third cup of coffee is sloshing unpleasantly in his otherwise empty stomach.

He wishes for nothing more than a peaceful, quiet nook to hide in, or the vast expanses of some unknown island to stretch his legs on and wander through. None of which is available to him now.

Law enters the upper deck and feels it - a faint trace of uncoated malice biting through air like tiny mosquitoes.

Doflamingo is glaring at him from a few meters afar, the dark pane of his glasses can't conceal that, frustration and displeasure spilled all over his childish face.

Where’s Penguin and Shachi? They were supposed to watch over him during Law’s absence, yet the kid’s clearly wandering here alone, unsupervised. A flick of red flashes at his periphery, a distinctive orca hat hiding somewhere behind the mast not a moment after. Someone hasn’t been on a latrine duty in quite a while it seems, Law will have words with them later and they won’t be nice. 

Doflamingo stomps his foot, a demand for attention loud and clear.

Law has half a mind to shamble him overboard and be done with this once and for all. But Doffy's ten now, Cora is eight, both of their faces are sunken with months worth of hunger bordering on starvation and Law has to start drinking something stronger than coffee to get a grip, doesn't he? 

He doesn't shamble the little runt. Not yet anyway.

He glares down instead, meeting the vicious eyes with a stare of his own.

“Rosi was scared. You can't make my brother scared. No one can.” Pang of guilt flashes through Law's chest. He isn't wrong, in that they can both agree, but he doesn't need a lecture from Doflamingo. “You should die,” the child continues, teeth bared with visibly stewing anger. 

And you should die a thousand times over.

He should.

He murdered Cora-san.

(Except, he didn't. Not here anyway, not yet. A bitter kind of miracle that's gradually making Law positively, overwhelmingly insane.)

“If I die, you’d die too,” Law states flatly, deciding to let the kid’s poor excuse of a threat slide, “and there’d be no one left to protect you.” Which is true enough. Without the Hearts in the picture and Trebol's sticky, slimy, paternalistic hands hovering over Doffy like a swarm of flies, the brothers are almost as good as dead. Law saw first-hand how the world treats some of its children - gunshots and flames were an unforgiving teacher, after all. Not that he’s planning on dying any soon. There'd have to be an enormous kind of catastrophe for Law to kick the bucket and it's more than implausible for Doffy to kill him himself. Law's has no doubts the annoying squirt will try anyway though.

“We’ll make it, eh! We did so far. We don’t need you.” 

“You don’t?”

“We’ll make it.”

“Will you?”

Doffy fumbles with an answer, mouth opening and closing, but past the grunts and twitching lips, he finds nothing. Which makes the little devil even more angry than before.

“I hate you,” he seethes with all the vile, twisted mind behind it.

And ah, the venom dripping from these words. Such a tiny, harmless thing Doflamingo has shrunk into, and yet, he contains so much hatred still. The swaths of it lap in waves, almost palpable in the crisp northern air. Law knows, remembers how it feels like to a frighteningly close degree. He was almost the same back at the time. (Almost. No longer. Because, apparently, one person can make a significant difference in somebody’s life, can they not?) Same age. Same mould of frustration and hatred. A byproduct of a broken government, broken world they all live in. (And yet, Cora-san believed Law was worthy of love.)

“No one's dying here, as far as I'm concerned. You want to help yourself? Your brother? I have a job for you.” Better redirect that anger into something else. Two weeks and fifty miles away, on the quiet, insignificant shore of the Cubic Island Cora-san worked up the courage and asked him – no, not Cora-san, Rosinante, it's little Rosi now – asked him what is this symbol they're wearing. The ‘pretty smile' as he called it, with that high-pitched, childish voice so different from the low and raspy sound coming from the throat full of cigarette smoke. A tiny finger pointed out to his chest, where the tattoos curled in swirls around the small circle with three dots and lines he'd designed and got inked so long ago, ‘It's here too, is it something special?’ and Law…

…Law refills the third cup of coffee and takes a bitter sip. Face twists into a grimace, he adds sugar then, two shallow spoons, because he somehow forgot about them with the little Cora-sa- Rosi's words bouncing in his head and causing ruckus. 

How can he answer? 

Because of you. It's you, it's you-

He cannot say that.

The next sip is sweet and burning his tongue and Rosinante is looking at him from behind a thick, circular window of the messroom’s double door. He's standing on tiptoes, Law notices, has to, he's too small, too tiny to reach the glass otherwise (Corazón was three meters tall and he dwarfed Law with his shadow alone, hide him inside the mess of black feathers completely, whispers about the cure falling relentlessly from the smiling lips). Rosi ducks his head right back when their glances cross. 

Law is making Cora-san nervous. 

Law bites his tongue and strangles the urge to hiss out profanities. Vicious and creative curses directed, mostly, at himself.

Because he didn't answer then, when the seemingly innocent question was asked, just blinked back the memories of snow and I love you, Law and swallowed the hammering heartbeat down the suddenly constricting throat. ‘Later,’ he was able to choke out, which he attributed to the congenital willpower honed painfully through all these years, ‘I'll tell you later,’ before he turned around and just… left.

The walk after that was kind of a blur full of mirages swapping between the guttural past and impossible present, until he found himself standing in the middle of a clearance. A town square, his mind supplemented, we're up North, Gereteth port, Cubic Island. He traced the path of the sunbeams sliding along the mismatched cobblestones, until he vaguely remembered how he got there and… and why he left the sub in the first place. To clear his head after… after. Judging by the sun and the ancient looking horologe hanging down from the clock tower, he lost approximately forty to fifty minutes. An hour, and a half, maybe. And based on the apprehensive glances thrown his way, most of that time Law spent staring, unseeing, at the local marketplace. Wonderful. He reluctantly opted to come back, before any guard he spotted glaring at him from here and there unwisely decided to be brave enough to question Law's behaviour with force, rather than words. He didn't want to make a mess from such a cozy little town and bring unnecessary attention to his crew and the newly acquired charges. 

He went back, steps gaining weight with every meter closer to the yellow sheathing glinting in the sun. 

Ignoring a couple of questioning looks from his semi-concerned bunch of idiots, he went down to the messroom, blissfully empty, and brewed himself a cup of coffee. 

And another one. 

And another.

And then Cor- Rosi-san came. 

And Law, nowhere near ready even after all this time, doesn't know what to do.

He has to sort out this tangled mess before it can grow to unnecessarily ridiculous proportions. He's a fucking pirate with a bounty worth millions of belli, Surgeon of Death who ripped out more hearts than he can count, he can't break because of one silly question-

Law can hear Rosinante's boots shuffling behind the door, tiny hands undoubtedly entwined into a nervous knot.

He doesn't have to imagine Penguin's pointed glance and Bepo's beady eyes going all watery to feel guilty for the impromptu escape his mind decided to perform today.

This is stupid. 

His chest tightens, something dark coiling inside, sounding almost like a chuckle festooned with pink feathers and thunderclap of gunshots.

Headcanons of your favorite OP hotties holding hands/comparing hand sizes with their child

Children are smol. How is it even possible? Itty bitty noisy things. Lil twerps. Brats, but they’re their daddy’s special baby.

Kizaru✨

His child loves placing their little hands in his huge one and saying cute things like ‘daddy, my hand is almost your size, see!’. Kizaru definitely would agreed even though it was far from the truth. He would let his child hold his one finger with their entire hand when they’re walking together.

Akainu🌋

He lets his child play with his fingers and just watches them as they try to arm wrestle him with amusement and even let’s them win all the time. He’s careful that he doesn’t accidentally burn his child as he constantly has to control his magma powers. He lets his child hold his finger when they’re walking together.

Benn Beckman 🔫

His child always asks about why he has so many cuts and scars on his hands but he doesn’t really say the truth as he tries to shield his child from his actual life as a pirate. He lets his child bandage his fingers and give the poorly bandages fingers kisses which always made him smile. He always holds their hand while they’re sleeping and he enjoys kissing their little fingers.

Sir Crocodile 🐊

His child is always so curious about his hook and tries to play with it which leads to him having to put a cork on it to make sure he doesn’t actually hurt his kid. He distracts the child with the many rings on his good hand and his child loves to play with his fingers or holding his hand with both of theirs and letting him lift them high, earning a few giggles. His child asks about his bad hand and he doesn’t like to tell the truth so he usually says he beat up a sea monster and it bit off his hand as revenge. This always makes his child laugh.

Doflamingo Donquixote 🦩

He always loves playing games with his child with his hands especially games that he used to play with Rosinante when they were kids. He would even sing the chants in Spanish with his child and teach them words while they sat in his lap, teaching them step by step. He likes to create little objects with his string powers and his child thinks it’s magic, always inspecting his hands to see where the string came from but can never find it! Doffy loves kissing his child’s hands and lets his child touch his face with those little hands all they like, even letting them grab the sunglasses off his face. Usually when he got his sunglasses back, they had several fingerprints on them.

Katakuri Charlotte 🍡

He loves having his child’s hands in his and crouch down to let them play with his hands as they are enormous compared to their child’s. He lets his child crawl up into his hand and use it as an elevator to bring them up to his shoulder before placing them gently on. His child hugs on his face and gives him tons of kisses which he adores.

Killer🔪

He enjoys plucking fruit from trees with his child and would get them to a spot that his child could easily pick at the trees. Sometimes he has to grasp the child’s little hand and tug a little so that the fruit is released from the tree. He enjoys cutting the fruit and feeding it to his child, his child would cling to his hand and sometimes playfully bite Killer’s hand…Killer makes dramatic sounds as if he actually got hurt which would earn some giggles.

Kaido🐉 (before he was a bad dad)

He would hold his child’s hand whenever they walked together and even though their hand was much smaller than Kaido’s, he still makes the effort to be gentle but firm so that they don’t wander off. He would have his child sleep on his chest and gently play with their fingers as they rested.

King 👑

He enjoys kissing his child’s little hands and fingers at every chance he gets, they are just too cute and soft. When this child is being carried by him, his child wraps their little arms around his neck as much as they can and rest against his face, giving some kisses too. He adores any moment he can get to be loving towards his child.

Queen👑

He always gives high fives to his child when they do something awesome and he makes sure to be the one always receiving the high five so that he doesn’t hurt his child. He loves when his child tries to imitate him with fingers guns or jazz hands, he think their little form is so adorable…a literal mini-queen.

The Seven Caretakers of the Smol Strawhats AU (Headcanons) [Part 1]

Crocomom anyone?

Mostly takes care of Luffy, Robin, and Vivi

Yes, Vivi is included uwu

I can see him brushing Robin's and Vivi's hair

I just pictured him being good at barbecue

Which is convenient for Luffy since he loves meat

Wears an apron when cooking meals

Maybe he bakes

But he mostly focuses on BBQ or cooking

He lets Sanji help him

This man has a library which is used most by Robin, Nami, Brook and Chopper

The books are of information, not literature

Usopp and Vivi sometimes uses it too

Crocodile will make sure to pick up some more books when goes out because Enel knows they can easily go through books fast

Brook is provided classical instruments

He likes listening to Brook play the violin, it's nice to hear after a long day

He makes them wear nice clothes suited for their taste style but also Croco's aesthetic

Vivi is dressed like the little princess she is uwu

Sanji and Brook has the most formal clothing out of the guys, which Crocodile is grateful for

Franky was the most difficult because he refuses to wear pants

"Doffy, he's your problem"

Luffy likes to dress like Crocodile and intimate him

He finds it amusing and will get a mini tailored version of his suits and coats for Luffy

These chaotic children are tiring him out

Doffy is good with kids

I mean he had them apart of his family so he can handle the chaotic straw hats

He'll sit down and watch over them

This tall man will be completely fine if the straw hats climb on him

Doflamingo has been seen walking through town with some of them hugging his limbs like a koala

Sudden though but I see him baking with a pink apron and oven mittens (both flamingo themed)

Uses a lot of pink icing and decorates these treats quite nicely

No one's touching these desserts until they're cooled down and finished

Luffy is banned from the kitchen

Sanji is welcomed though

The smol blond is his little assistant

Chopper loves the baked goods he makes

Nami is another one his favourites

She has fine expensive taste and often is the one he prefers to take with when searching for decor or other fashionable needs

He will shower her with gifts and gold

Okay but with Mihawk here, we gotta have the whole spooky goth family

So Perona and Kaku are now here (Yes, Kaku too because I love the AU where he's apart of the fam uwu)

That said, Mihawk's main attention is on his goth children

Zoro, Perona, Kaku, Robin and Brook

You can't deny that the last two are goths

He obviously trains the three boys to become better swordmen

Quite impressed by how unique their techniques are

Their part of the home is decorated with pure goth aesthetic

Chopper gets scared whenever he goes to that side to find Robin

Though each goth child has their own twist to the aesthetic when it comes to their room

Mihawk has his own library but is full of literature

He reads to the children

Most often for bedtime

It came to a point where some of them couldn't sleep without him reading them a bedtime story

Shopping? Of course, he gets clothing for his goth children

But he never takes them all at once

Oh no, he can't handle it

He'll take one, or two at most

On Halloween, that changes because he'll take them all to get their costumes and decorations

Speaking of spooky Halloween, he's not the one to take the kids out for trick or treating

But he is the one who stays home to give out candy while watching horror films with the ones that stay behind

Will be up for watching horror films anytime but also likes to watch other classic films with the kids

If one of the non-goth children get nightmares from watching it, that's their fault not his, they could've just not watched it with them

I can see him watching mystery movies

Which also means he has mystery books along with horror ones

When it comes to cooking, I can see him making meals that you see in fancy restaurants

Not those weird small portion Gourmet, no

He mainly cooks it for the adults since Luffy the children don't like it that much

He likes it when Sanji comes and helps him cook

It's rather nice to have a small break from the usual goth children he takes care of

His only complaint is when the blond bickers with Zoro

And that's why Zoro got banned from the kitchen whenever the two are cooking

Mihawk doesn't need any more headaches

When he does have one, he likes to have a glass of wine and listen to Brook play his music

The violin is soothing to his ears

He isn't one to be overprotective

But if someone did insult anyone of the smol children

"Never speak to me or my children again unless you wish to be buried six feet under"

Shanks comes to visit Mihawk and the others practically every week

It makes Luffy happy because he gets to see Shanks

Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper are always the most excited to see the red-haired man

Itwas pretty and decorated quite nicely, splashes of paint mixed with each other,turning it into a small bright piece of art. It was small, but that was mainly because Doflamingo was big, andtherefore so was his body. Law was small in comparison too. With an egg in onehand (that he could crush so easily) and Law’s head in his other (just as equallyfragile), Doflamingo hummed before he stood up again. Law was fragile now, buthe would raise him into a fierce subordinate that, should the world try, wouldsink his teeth into it and devour everything. Yes, he was putting a lot ofeffort into Law, so things like thesewere more than enough payment for his generosity.

The Simp Mom

I’m just saying this now

Boa ain’t going to acknowledge any children unless Luffy wants her to

Her concern is for Luffy, and Luffy alone

All the children can do whatever for all she cares

So whatever Luffy wants, that is her top priority

He wants meat? She going to cook the finest meat for him

He wants to hear a story? She’s going to tell him his favourite stories

He wants to play tag? She’ll gladly run around the place for him

He wants Doffy’s baked goods before they finished cooling off? Hancock is already on her way to kick Mingo’s ass for not letting Luffy have the sweets

Hancock spoils Luffy

She will buy him anything he wants

Which is mostly just food

But he’ll also want pirate merchandise

So she buys him that

She loves to tuck Luffy into bed at night and listen to his rambling of his dreams until the boy falls asleep

I can imagine her seeing one of Luffy’s plushies falling on the floor and she picks it up and gently places it next to Luffy

Boa will get up extra early in the morning to prepare breakfast for Luffy

But also ends up making enough breakfast for everyone else

Hancock is the only one who refuses Sanji’s help in the kitchen and claims she’s capable of making breakfast herself

And she is the only one who can go wake Luffy up

She will be furious if anyone dares disturbs Luffy from his slumber

However, this doesn’t stop the children from waking him up if they want to play

If she catches them in the act then they’ll be scolded

But if Luffy is already up and running around with a smile on his face, she’ll quickly forget that she didn’t wake him up

She definitely would want to dress Luffy up but she won’t if he doesn’t want her to

The girls might want her to dress them up but she doesn’t pay any mind to them unless Luffy wants her to

She’s mainly only here for Luffy

And is extremely defensive

“How dare you yell at Luffy like that you- oh Luffy, you want some more food? I’ll go get you some”

Boa is definitely one of those proud soccer moms that will fight the referee

Papa Bear

He is a soft quiet dad

Is a good listener

Like Doffy, he’ll sit down and watch them play

If the kids wanna go out to the park or go walk around, he’ll accompany them

He carries their stuff around so they can run around and play

Because of his gentle nature and calm nature, he is able to lure animals so the straw hats can pet them

Like a bunny or a deer

Just don’t make any sudden moves

Butterflies have landed on his hand before and it won’t be the last time

Kuma is the one that makes sure the children have everything they need before going out

And is the one to pick them up from school

Or activities if one of the other warlords couldn’t do it

He is the one the other caretakers turn to when they need a break from the children

Kuma doesn’t mind, he’ll gladly keep them out of trouble while the others take a much-needed break

Comfy clothing

This bear will make sure the straw hats have comfortable clothes to wear

If not, to shopping we go

Everyone has a least one hoodie from Kuma

Even the other Warlords

Please wear it at least once a week, he’ll be sad if you don’t and it shows even if his face is stoic

I don’t really see Kuma having a favourite

He loves and appreciates them all the same

Kuma gives headpats

You can not tell me otherwise

Whenever he’s proud of one of the smol children he’ll give them a headpat of ruffle their hair

If he receives a drawing, he will hang it up on the fridge

And if the fridge is too crowded

Which 90% of the time it is, despite the kitchen having 4 of them

The drawing will be hung on the wall in his room

Speaking of the kitchen, Kuma likes to make classic home-cooked meals

He makes the best beef stew and everyone loved it

It’s delicious

Everyone always looks forward to his homemade dinners

When bedtime comes, Kuma tucks them in if the others haven’t already done so

He’ll make sure they have their favourite plushie with them to sleep

If any of them have a nightmare, don’t worry

Papa bear is by the fireplace reading a book, they can come join him

Yeah, he can’t sleep since he’s half machine, not completely thankfully, so he still got emotions

Kuma will give them a bear hug and reassure them that it was just a dream

He won’t mind if they stay there and fall asleep

Better to know they’re safe

One morning the other warlords woke up and found all the smol straw hats asleep on the couch cuddle close to Kuma

It was an adorable sight

Doflamingo took a picture and it is now in the photo album

This papa bear will make sure his children are safe

If anyone is deemed to be someone harmful to the children, well…

Not a goth dad, no he’s a spooky one

And his ghost princess Perona is already here

The fact that Mihawk is now Perona’s goth dad creates tension between the two warlords because Perona was Moria’s daughter first

Moria is a lazy fellow so any tasks that requires taking care of the children

That job goes to his shadows

Fetching toys

Cleaning up messes

Getting drinks

He has the zombies do that

Which means Hildon is here, yay :3

This also means that none of the other warlords have to worry about doing chores

Which is great because that means they can focus on the straw hats

It’s a good thing Moria is here

That said, Moria isn’t going to be cooking or baking

Too much work for the guy

But he would taste test anything Sanji creates if he is nearby when the little blond is cooking

He would also use his shadow to steal some of Doffy’s desserts for Perona

Yes, Perona is his favourite as she is the ghost princess of the spooky king himself

He does brush her hair

The other two favourites he would probably have are Robin and Brook because of their spooky nature

Robin likes dark humour and to read

Brook is fascinated with skeletons and other monsters as well as having a love for playing the violin and can also play the piano

It’s perfect

He loves these spooky children

Moria would definitely spoil the children with gifts and toys

Most of the plushies were bought from him

The sight of them hugging their plushes just warms his undead heart

Moria’s room is on the goth side of the home

As well as his zombie servant quarters

That side is being rumoured to be haunted but as it turns out, it’s just Moria’s shadows and Perona’s ghosts

He IS the one to take all the children out for Trick or Treating

They hit up every house in the neighbourhood

Is totally on board for scaring the living shit out of people who don’t give them candy

So you better give the straw hats candy

The zombies are totally decorating their home with the spookiest decorations

Only the brave kids go up to the place after the manor is decorated

This undead man doesn’t even need a costume

But he makes sure the kids get them

THEY WILL NOT BE STORE BOUGHT COSTUMES

He’ll get his zombies to make custom ones

Only the best for the spooky holiday

And candy

Oh, you know what, I think Moria would make candy

Yeah, he makes homemade Halloween candy for the children

They’re delicious

Oh! And candy apples!

Okay, any Halloween related sweets is what he makes

How can he deny making the food of Hallow’s Eve

I can definitely see him watching The Nightmare Before Christmas with the children after they come home from trick or treating

May or may not do exactly what Jack did

If anyone, and I mean ANYONE, dares makes his precious children cry

Well they better say goodbye to the sun and their shadow

"I think it's a about time I have another shadow added to the collection"

The Strawhat Fish Dad!

He's the most responsible one out of them all

Not to say the others aren't responsible

But Jinbei is the one to really take the role of a parent

Will calmly teach the kids what's right and what's wrong

Give them lectures when they've done something wrong

Making sure no one eats too many sweets or junk food

He breaks up fights between the children

Which is almost every hour

However, he's not the one grounding them

Actually, he and Kuma are the only ones who don't ground the kids

But if they're grounded he's not going to help them get out of it

And he'll also have to stop the others from doing so

Especially Hancock

Jinbei has to stop her from spoiling Luffy so much

At least the others don't go too far when they spoil the kids

He's happy that the boy has taken an interest in cooking

I can see him letting them spare against each other

No one is going to get injured

But yeah, he wants them to grow up strong and able to handle themselves

However, if a Karen is complaining about the straw hats for being themselves

He gets up and confronts her

He's an adult, he talks in a civilized matter
